The aim of this article is to discuss the couple interview as a method of collecting data in interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) studies. This study was conducted in Gauteng, South Africa, with the aim of understanding the experience of living in an HIV-serodiscordant relationship. Seven HIV-serodiscordant heterosexual couples were interviewed (dyadic interviews). This article provides a brief overview of these HIV-serodiscordant couples, as well as gives reasons for using IPA as a methodology for exploring the experiences of HIV-serodiscordant couples and explains the processes and

Satisfied couples in European-American cultural contexts experience higher ratios of positive to negative affect during interactions than their less satisfied counterparts. Whereas Belgian relationship goals (e.g., mutual affirmation and self-esteem) call for the experience of positive affect, Japanese relationship goals (e.g., harmony and self-adjustment) call for the avoidance of

Accelerated galvanic corrosion of metals coupled to noble minerals is quite likely, because most minerals exhibit potentials in solution which are noble to the corrosion potentials of metal alloys. Abstract:
The immersed boundary methods are well known as an efficient flow solver for engineering problems involving fluid structure interactions. However, in order to obtain better results, higher resolutions near the immersed boundary points are desired. Non-uniform Cartesian mesh can easily fulfill this task without introducing a dramatic increase on the cost of computation and coding. In the current paper, an immersed boundary method with non-uniform Cartesian mesh is demonstrated. The Poisson problem is solved with assistance of a scientific parallel computational library PETSc. The code is valida

Abstract:
Three dimensional fluid-structure interaction was modeled using the coupled lattice Boltzmann and finite element methods. The latter technique was applied to model the structural behavior while the former was used to model the fluid field. For computationally efficient modeling of external flow over embedded pipes with their interaction, the pipes were modeled using 3-D beam elements rather than shell elements. This paper presents an algorithm for how to couple 3-D beam finite elements with the lattice Boltzmann grids so that the fluid-structure interaction can be properly modeled at the outer

Abstract:
This paper draws on current research and analyzes participant interactions in a 12-week leadership online training course with students from 14 Latin American countries. The paper systematizes the experience of the Inter-American Institute for Social Development (INDES) and constitutes a case study of an experience in a regional, non-academic online training course. The research concentrates specifically on the effects of and influences on different types of interaction, particularly taking into consideration the intricacies and interrelations of participation, critical thinking, achievement a

Abstract:
Multiple aid agencies often try to support change in the same places, at the same time, and with similar actors. Surprisingly, their interactions and combined effects are rarely explored. This Policy Briefing describes findings from research conducted on recent aid programmes that overlapped in Mozambique, Nigeria, and Pakistan, and from a webinar with UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) advisors and practitioners. The research found three distinct categories of ‘interaction effects’: synergy, parallel play, and disconnect. We explore how using an ‘interaction effects’ len

Abstract:
The economic assessment of piping layout in compressor station yards relies on accurate prediction of pressure losses within the network. Methods currently used to predict pressure losses in station pipe work are unreliable. As a result inadequate and inaccurate information is being used when making economic assessments of piping layout and in the prediction of operating costs. By improving the design process substantial economic advantages may be gained in balancing pressure losses and compressor inlet flow conditions against investment in piping and components. Currently the existing data co

In this paper, we address a specific tool—InnoMix—that is implemented to overcome the lack of university–industry interaction in a selected region facing structural change with its corresponding impact on the economy and society. InnoMix is facilitated and implemented by university-based transfer scouts who act as mediators and translators between the players of the regional innovation system. These transfer scouts are part of the Innovation Hub 13, in which the region’s partners and stakeholders, infrastructures and competencies are systematically networked with each other to set new impulses

Abstract:
On college campuses today, student services staff (administrators and support staff) and faculty members are not only interacting with students but also with their parents. College employee interactions with prospective students and their parents may be common during information sessions and open houses. However, outside of the recruitment season, less is known about the experiences of student affairs staff and faculty who interact with parents. Through semi-structured interviews, this study examined employees’ interactions with parents of students at four colleges of applied arts and technolo
