Abstract:
With the rise and improvement of artificial intelligence technology, the express delivery industry has become more intelligent. At the terminal of modern logistics, each dispatch center has hundreds of express mail deliveries to be dispatched every day, and the number of dispatchers is far less than the number of express mail deliveries. How to assign scientific tasks to each courier dispatch is the main target of this paper. The purpose is to make the number of tasks between the various couriers in the express center roughly the same in each cycle, so that there is a more balanced income between the couriers. In the simulation experiment, the delivery addresses are clustered according to the balanced k-means algorithm. Then, the ant colony algorithm is used to plan the delivery order of the express items in each class. Then, the time cost model is established according to the delivery distance of the express items in each class and the delivery mode of the express items to calculate the delivery time cost. Through a large amount of experimental data, the standard deviation of delivery time cost of each courier gradually decreases and tends to stabilize, which suggests that this method has a good effect on the dispatching task assignment of the express center. It can effectively make the delivery workload between the distributors roughly the same, and improve the delivery efficiency of the courier, save energy, and promote sustainable development.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the development of theoretical and methodological recommendations for the automation of business processes of postal and courier services. The subject of the research is the logistics business processes of postal and courier services. On the basis of theoretical generalization, methods of analysis and synthesis the approaches of scientists to definition of essence and advantages of digitalization of business processes are investigated. Technical means of automation of logistics management system are considered. Scenarios for automation of logistics business processes are identified. Problems of introduction of modern ERP-systems at domestic enterprises, which consist in the existing monopoly on the market of software products and in the absence of a significant number of specialists working with one of the most popular information systems, are revealed. Therefore, it is determined that one of the optimal approaches to automation of logistics business processes of postal and courier services is the expansion and integration of the ERP-system to the developed specialized LMS modules. A model is proposed that aligns LMS software tools (modules) for postal and courier services with the relevant business processes. The developed model covers the following information flows: development of the operational plan, acceptance of the parcel, packing and grouping, transportation, sorting, courier delivery, parcel delivery. It is determined that the supply chain planning system is the basis of the transaction system and provides the planning of scenarios to meet demand, taking into account the limitations. The proposed model describes the following business processes – order management, inventory management, transport management, yard management, warehouse management, courier delivery management, logistics analytics. For each process the directions which will be subject to automation, their maintenance and essence are defined. It is established that digitalization of logistics processes provides new opportunities for postal operators to increase efficiency, improve speed and reliability, develop innovative products and services.

Abstract:
The environmental footprint of courier, express, and parcel (CEP) logistics is significant and growing, owing to increased e-commerce. Consumer willingness to participate in the green logistics of CEPs, however, has been understudied. This study addresses this knowledge gap by surveying 155 Chinese consumers about their willingness to participate in CEP green logistics. Additionally, this research identifies some technical issues with previous survey research. Three main factors were extracted after the data were tested for reliability and validity using exploratory factor analysis with principal axis factor extraction and confirmatory factor analysis with diagonally weighted least squares. Consumer willingness is positively correlated with economic (8 items), operational (3 items), and social (3 items) factors, with a statistical significance of p < 0.001. Of all the factors, the strongest correlation, 0.67 (95% CI = 0.57, 0.75; p < 0.001; N = 155), exists between economic factors and consumer willingness. The results of a multinomial logistic regression analysis suggest that all consumers are highly unlikely to participate in economic factors, while they are highly likely to positively commit to operational and social factors. Therefore, it is recommended that the government provides monetary incentives to CEP companies to adopt green logistics, such as tax reductions and subsidies, to reduce the costs of green logistics. Meanwhile, the CEP industry could provide some direct and indirect incentives to consumers to re-use, recycle, and share materials, and to spend time learning about express enterprises’ green logistics, to increase consumer participation in economic factors.

Abstract:
This article proposes a method to reduce working time violations of a real-world courier service in the urban logistics with time-dependent traffic information. The challenge is to reduce working time violation without creating significant changes to the urban logistics plan which provides city coverage to each driver. Furthermore, courier businesses require time-dependent traffic information to have an integrated traffic routing plan. This process will require very long enquiry time as the traffic information is available online, but a good decision must be made as soon as possible. To tackle the problem, we first propose a heuristic method for route adjustment using a particular traffic time instance (single traffic time). The route solution obtained from the single traffic time is subsequently transferred to the time-dependent traffic scenario. Computational results demonstrate that the heuristic route adjustment algorithm could decrease working time violations and create a balanced working time solution. We include also in-depth analyses on the optimal working time, and the effect of using a single traffic time solution in the time-dependent traffic information environment. The obtained results illustrate the effectiveness of our approach in solving the real applications of time-dependent vehicle routing in urban logistics.

Logistics can be seen as the compound of all the considerations needed to ensure the efficient and economical support of a system throughout its life cycle. The unscheduled actions, performed as a result of a failure or a perceived failure, that are necessary to restore a system to its required level of performance is corrective maintenance. Such activities may include troubleshooting, disassembly to gain access to the faulty item, repair, remove and replace, reassembly, alignment and adjustment and checkout. The frequency of maintenance for a given item is highly dependent on the reliability of that item. In general, as the reliability of a system increases, the frequency of maintenance will decrease and, conversely, the frequency of maintenance will increase as system reliability is degraded.

Abstract:
This article presents the assessment results for crowd logistics (CL) solutions from the perspective of the needs of different stakeholders. The uniqueness of this study lies in entering these needs in the implementation of the three spheres of sustainable development in cities (social, economic, and environmental). The purpose of this publication is to present the benchmark solutions for the CL area, helping to adjust the business model and market offer of other providers to the needs of different groups of stakeholders. The reason for such valuation is the fast-paced sharing economy development in the city logistics area, as well as in the courier activity. For this study, the AHP (analytic hierarchy process) method was applied in order to develop the proposed evaluation tool of the CL initiatives. The evaluation criteria (the needs of particular groups of respondents) are derived from document-based data analysis and the primary data for the model are derived from information provided by service providers. The list of the best solutions is made for indicating benchmark brands on the market. The recommendations for managers were drawn on how to adjust solutions to the stakeholders’ needs.

A survey of the willingness of ordinary travelers to work as an occasional courier was conducted. In the end, the equilibrium of demand and supply in the crowd shipping market in Bratislava is presented. The regression and correlation analysis were performed to understand the relationship between parameters of demand and delivery quantities in the first part of the research, sociodemographic characteristics of nonprofessional couriers, and the maximum weight of the parcel nonprofessional couriers agree to delivery. The willingness to pay per delivery was determined for respondents of different genders. Key findings: The results of the survey allowed us to estimate the freight demand for the Old Town of Bratislava, as well as to understand the needs of potential demand for crowd shipping services. The results of the second questionnaire show the sociodemographic characteristics of nonprofessional couriers (age, gender, gender, income, travel time) significantly influence the decision to participate in the delivery market.

Abstract:
The article examines the market of cold logistics in Ukraine (logistics of products, which requires compliance with special temperature conditions). The main problem faced by the authors was the virtual absence of statistical data in this sector of the economy. Therefore, for the study, one of the methods of Multivariate Statistical Analysis was applied, namely, Hierarchical Cluster Analysis. This method made it possible to make a dynamic (for 2017-2020 years) classification of the regions of Ukraine with respect to a latent indicator - the stable development of the cold logistics market. A robust division of 24 regions into three groups-clusters was obtained: “leaders”, “middle peasants”, “outsiders”. The factors-symptoms that had the most significant influence on the formation of a cluster (group of regions) of leaders were determined: the volume of exports and imports, the number of modern multi-temperature logistics warehouse complexes and the income of the population of the region. To assess the environmental impact of the functioning of the cold supply logistics network, an environmental factor was used in the analysis - the volume of CO2 emissions from transport, warehousing, postal and courier activities.

Improved technical IT possibilities in terms of performance, availability, usability, as well as cheaper prices through mass production on a worldwide basis, led to a global, multiconnected, so called ’hyperconnected’ market, of people, goods, ideas and techniques. This situation results in higher demands and a higher customer expectation on a B2B and B2C level and therefore for enhanced logistics challenges especially for Courier, Express & Parcel (CEP) providers worldwide and their respect IT organisations. Within the IT realm of this momentum Smartphones, ’Apps’ and Cloud Computing seem to increase the complexity within logistics IT departments in the first place. From a business point of view the extension of variabilized outsourcing and outtasking of defined parts of the overall value chain could be seen as new influence factors, especially in mature CEP markets. Enterprise Architecture Management (EAM) seems to be one auxiliary to manage this new complexity, by combining the view on the business processes, as well as the technical dimension of the logistics provide

Abstract:
This research developed a new integrated method for addressing the deficiencies and gaps generally found in past studies on benchmarking and for benchmarking intellectual capital (IC) in the underdeveloped domain of logistics. To resolve the lack of consideration of relationships among past benchmarking concepts and the impacts of their managerial factors, as well as to examine the wide range of elements and indicators of IC influencing the sustainable development of organizations, the proposed approach integrated the analytic network process and the concept of thinking and non-thinking assets with the generic benchmarking procedure. This new hybrid method was implemented in four commercial companies in courier service. The proposed method prioritized and identified the magnitudes of the factors focused upon, including the IC elements, and their performance measures by considering the fundamental characteristics of intangible assets. The obtained results highlight that management focuses on the IC of the best performer and other companies. This benchmarked outcome showed gaps and improvement as well as sustainable development opportunities for inferior logistics companies. The improved framework provides more systematic and specific benchmarking processes to consider, obtain, and compare the in-depth details of IC management. Moreover, ours is the first research on benchmarking that specifically focused on IC management in logistics service providers.

Abstract:
The article presents a description, formulation and method of solving a certain problem of optimization of the structure of the distribution system in a selected logistics company in Poland. It was assumed that shipments are generated in the areas of address codes (more precisely: we know the volume of shipments between each pair of address codes in a time profile (day/week/month/year)). The problem of system structure optimization is decompressed into two subproblems: (1) location and dimensioning the company's branches by optimizing the number, location, bandwidth of branches and allocating code points to be serviced by the branches. The criterion for optimization is the total cost of establishing and maintaining branches and the costs of transporting shipments. From code points to the branch and vice versa; (2) location and dimensioning of the sorting plant and determination of the transport plan. Problem (1) solved using a modified, randomised clustering method k-means on the current data on the structure and volume of shipments from a certain courier company. Results of research on real data for the problem (1) are presented.

Abstract:
Forward and reverse logistics are two types of distribution methods that shall be synergized in practices. Two problems in synergizing the two distributions type are (1) how to route vehicles and (2) how to pack the goods inside the vehicle. A truck with only one door for loading and unloading process could create numerous problems of item packing activities. An item picked up from a customer could occasionally block other goods which need to be delivered; hence, the courier shall unload other items before the loading process. This condition will increase the probability of item damage, longer on-loading/off-loading (lo/lo) time, and higher lo/lo cost because of the rapid item movement. Therefore, this article aims to propose an algorithm to solve the problem by creating an algorithm hybrid of routing and packing to find the solution for routing and packing problem, sequentially, with a metaheuristic approach. The proposed method calculates the cost from routing procedure and sum of item movement in every loading and unloading process. Based on the trial on 25 cases, this algorithm generates 59.64% of the containers have zero goods repacking. Several potential future research avenues are also proposed in this article.

Abstract:
Efficient decision making based on business intelligence (BI) is essential to ensure competitiveness for sustainable growth. The rapid development of information and communication technology has made collection and analysis of big data essential, resulting in a considerable increase in academic studies on big data and big data analysis (BDA). However, many of these studies are not linked to BI, as companies do not understand and utilize the concepts in an integrated way. Therefore, the purpose of this study is twofold. First, we review the literature on BI, big data, and BDA to show that they are not separate methods but an integrated decision support system. Second, we explore how businesses use big data and BDA practically in conjunction with BI through a case study of sorting and logistics processing of a typical courier enterprise. We focus on the company’s cost efficiency as regards to data collection, data analysis/simulation, and the results from actual application. Our findings may enable companies to achieve management efficiency by utilizing big data through efficient BI without investing in additional infrastructure. It could also give them indirect experience, thereby reducing trial and error in order to maintain or increase competitiveness.

Abstract:
The objective of this study is to understand how senders choose shipping services for different products, given the availability of both emerging crowd-shipping ( CS) and traditional carriers in a logistics market. Using data collected from a United States (U.S.) survey, Random Utility Maximization (RUM) and Random Regret Minimization (RRM) models have been employed to reveal factors that influence the diversity of decisions made by senders. Shipping costs, along with additional real-time services such as courier reputations, tracking info, e-notifications, and customized delivery time and location, have been found to have remarkable impacts on senders’ choices. Interestingly, potential senders were willing to pay more to ship grocery items such as food, beverages, and medicines by CS services. Moreover, the real-time services have low elasticities, meaning that only a slight change in those services will lead to a change in sender behavior. Finally, data-science techniques were used to assess the performance of the RUM and RRM models and found to have similar accuracies. The findings from this research will help logistics firms address potential market segments, prepare service configurations to fulfill senders’ expectations, and develop effective business operations strategies.

The article examines the state of e-business and prospects for its further development. A number of problems that complicate the use of e-Commerce in Ukraine, namely legal problems, fraud, risks. It should be noted that the underdeveloped legal component contributes to the spread of fraudulent transactions carried out with the help of stolen card details; the appearance of the shops, completely disappearing from the market after a successfully executed fraud, the fictitious shops intended for gathering information about the cards, and thus the emergence of psychological factors - buyers appear to distrust the conduct of consumer transactions via the Internet. The role of e-Commerce in the activities of transport and logistics providers is also highlighted. For successful strategic management of the online store it is profitable to use the services of intermediaries: outsourcing companies with the necessary experience in receiving calls and orders; a professional courier service that will fulfill its obligations much better than others. The calculation of e-business contribution to the gross domestic product growth is proposed. The relationship between the components of the network readiness index and the contribution of e-economy to GDP growth is analyzed. Countries with the most developed infrastructure, high rates of individual use of network resources and developed regulatory environment loyal to market conditions have more efficient e-economy.

Abstract:
The last-mile in the courier express parcel (CEP) sector is the most challenging part of the overall transport chain. This is, among other reasons, because many recipients are not at home when deliveries take place. On the other hand, it is for many recipients inconvenient that they have to collect their parcels at different pickup shops varying from logistics service provider (LSP) to LSP. One solution is to employ (open) parcel lockers which are conveniently located for recipients and which allow successful (first) deliveries for LSPs. In this paper, we investigate the impact of parcel lockers with respect to traveled distances as well as CO2 emissions. We show that under certain situations, parcel lockers positively contribute to both aforementioned performance indexes. Based on our observations, we formulate recommendations how to support the implementation of parcel lockers.

Abstract:
Courier, express, and parcel (CEP) services represent one of the most challenging and dynamic sectors of the logistics industry. Companies of this sector must solve several challenges to keep up with the rapid changes in the market. In this context, the introduction of autonomous delivery using self-driving trucks might be an appropriate solution to overcome the problems that the industry is facing today. This paper investigates if the introduction of autonomous trucks would be feasible for deliveries in urban areas from the experts’ point of view. Furthermore, the potential advantages of such autonomous vehicles were highlighted and compared to traditional delivery methods. At the same time, barriers that could slow down or hinder such an implementation were also discovered by conducting semi-structured interviews with experts from the field. The results show that CEP companies are interested in innovative logistics solutions such as autonomous vans, especially when it comes to business-to-consumer (B2C) activities. Most of the experts acknowledge the benefits that self-driving vans could bring once on the market. Despite that, there are still some difficulties that need to be solved before actual implementation. If this type of vehicle will become the sector’s disruptor is yet to be seen.

Abstract:
Mitigating climate change and improving urban livability is prompting cities to improve sustainability of urban transportation and logistics. Cargo bikes, in combination with urban transshipment points, are gaining momentum as a green last mile alternative. Although a wide body of research proves their viability in dense urban areas, knowledge about planning urban transshipment points is very limited. This also entails the siting of such facilities and the assessment of effects on emissions. This study therefore presents a first quantitative scenario-based model that assesses the impacts on a district. It examines different strategies for siting urban transshipment points in a single district and its effect on traffic, the carbon footprint, and air quality to give strategic insights where to create candidate locations for such facilities. Our result contributes to knowledge of planning urban transshipment facilities and assessing the impact of different configurations. The findings demonstrated that the use of cargo bikes to make courier, express, and parcel (CEP) deliveries in urban districts could reduce greenhouse gas (GHG), particulate matter (PM10), and nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions significantly. However, the choice of vehicles completing inbound and outbound processes and the strategies for siting urban transshipment points display widely differing and even conflicting potential to reduce emissions.

Abstract:
The present review paper provides a systematic insight into the studies published so far when it comes to the research on the cost and performance optimisation in the parcel delivery phase. Globalisation, as well as the new trends, such as selling online, directly influences the demands for the delivery of goods. Demand for the delivery of goods proportionally affects the transport prices. A great majority of deliveries is carried out in densely populated urban areas. In terms of costs, the greatest part in the courier organisations costs is observed in the technological phase of parcel delivery, which is at the same time the least efficient. For that reason, significant improvement of performance and cost optimisation in the very delivery phase is a rather challenging field for the researchers. New algorithm-based technologies, innovations in the logistics and outsourcing of individual technological phases are ways by means of which one strives to enhance the delivery efficiency, to improve performance and quality, but also - to optimise the costs in the last phase of delivery. The aim of the present paper is to offer a systematic review into the most recent research in the field of technology, innovations and outsourcing models with the aim of reducing the cost and enhancing the productivity and quality in parcel delivery.

Abstract:
Purpose Enterprise social networks (ESNs) in organizations have become an increasingly important technology to support the exchange of information and knowledge. Many ESN projects fail due to insufficient engagement in the long run, leading to the high risk of sunk costs. The purpose of this paper is to investigate how hedonic motivations, along with normative motivations, play an important role in determining an employee’s intention to continuously participate in ESN. Based on the Four-Drive Model and hence borrowing from behavioral economics, it is investigated how such hedonic motivations emerge in organizational ESNs. Design/methodology/approach This study is set within the context of a global enterprise of the logistics and courier industry. The authors first derived hypotheses from the Four-Drive Model to build the research model on the emergence of hedonic motivation. Then, the authors derived hypotheses from existing adoption literature regarding the impact of hedonic motivations and normative motivations on ESN use continuance. Following, a quantitative survey was conducted to test these hypotheses. In the study, structural equation modeling is applied, based on partial least squares. Findings The results show that the extent to which an ESN supports the drives to comprehend, acquire, bond and defend starkly influences an employee’s hedonic motivations. In addition, it is shown that hedonic motivations have a much stronger influence on use continuance than normative motivations. Originality/value Research on hedonic motivations in the work context is still underrepresented, in management science as well as information systems (IS) research. Hence, theoretical approaches to explain and predict the emergence of hedonic motivations in IS usage are missing. With the study, the authors will close this theoretical gap. The study contributes to IS research not only by evaluating the role of hedonic motivation for ESN usage, but also by providing an approach to explain key drivers behind it. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first study to empirically test the Four-Drive Model in a voluntary IS context, adding valuable knowledge about human behaviors in digital work environments.

The efficiency of pickup-and-delivery (P&D) activities of urban courier is adversely impacted by traffic congestion and lack of logistical innovations. The high frequency of P&D tasks offers the opportunity to achieve substantial savings in time through the implementation of route optimization, route guidance, and scheduling innovations. These innovations would require the intelligent transportation systems (ITS) technologies for their implementation. This paper describes how such time savings can be obtained. For testing the effect of network and operating conditions on time savings, a simulation study was undertaken on synthesized networks and logistical requirements. The results show that route guidance and scheduling systems yield highly significant time savings in the P&D operation of the courier industry.Key words: courier, intelligent transportation systems, route guidance, route planning, simulation.

Abstract:
E-commerce has grown exponentially over the years. The growth has been characterized by strong consumer demands and the increasing number of various products available online. This in turn creates a logistical problem and a high demand for an efficient courier service to support the growing markets. It is very important for courier service provider that the delivery of the parcel is being done as fast as possible. One of the courier service’s vital and most crucial business process is in the last mile parcel delivery. This is where an efficient delivery service will be of utmost importance. An efficient system needs to be developed in order to facilitate the interaction between the courier service provider and consumer to precisely determine the optimal route for the parcel delivery. In this paper, an Android-based application system for courier service management with last mile route tracking module is developed. It is a mobile application that eases the courier delivery personnel in finding their way to deliver the parcels to the customer’s doorstep. The application will guide the courier personnel to get a list of courier data such as address and contact information and then navigate them to the selected customers’ addresses based on traffic data retrieved from Google Maps API. Abstract:
As for Chinese express industry, it is high time to effectively protect consumers private information. Nowadays, the popular solution is to take two-dimensional codes as the carrier to directly encrypt and store consumers private information. However, this paper hasnt followed the old routine and seperated the privacy flow from the courier and item flow. Based on the Mobile Internet, Android Application and Cloud Storage, it redesigns traditional courier receipt, stores consumers private information in securer Cloud servers and realizes the Zero Rate of Exposure of consumers private information in the circulating process with two-dimensional codes as the key entrance connecting online servers and offline users. After practical tests, this system succeeds in securing the circulation of consumers privacy on courier receipts. Whats more, it can automatically update logistic information and improve the efficiency of sorting and delivering.
