In Part 1, a computational method was described for predicting the performance of pivoted pad thrust bearings. In this second part, computed results are compared with experimental data. Three test cases are considered, which cover the range of bearing sizes normally encountered in practice, from a 150 mm diameter laboratory scale experiment through the main propulsion thrust bearings of a destroyer to a 3 m diameter bearing. Generally good agreement is obtained for both temperatures and film thicknesses.

This paper deals with the bearing capacity of sea ice covers taking into consideration the nonhomogeneity of the material, which is primarily due to variations in temperature and salinity across the thickness. The study is limited to the evaluation of short-term loads that would cause cracking in the ice cover. The Chamic languages, today represented only by small or very small minority communities of speakers on the Chinese island of Hainan, in Cambodia and in Vietnam, form a low-order branch of the Austronesian language family. One of the Chamic languages is Cham itself, with pockets of speakers (several 100,000 in total) in some provinces of Southern Vietnam as well as Cambodia, and a bifurcation between at least two clearly distinct dialects.
