Abstract:
There is no doubt that prior to Covid-19 outbreak the issue of migration had been one of the top priorities across the European Union, especially after so-called ‘’refugee crisis’’ of 2015-2017. However, the situation rapidly changed since Covid-19 outbreak, when migration has fallen off the radar as a political issue. The aim of this paper is to analyse students' attitudes towards migrants, in the period before COVID-19, and our initial thesis is that the fact that attitudes towards migrants are rooted in individual values and when established can be resistant to change. The COVID-19-related research field has emerged with a number of papers and citations in a very short time period. Journals published COVID-19-related works have increased their impact factor (IF), which reflects the attention on COVID-19. With publications of COVID-19-related works in Web of Science, we found that COVID-19-related papers increased IF of journals but more benefits were given to the high IF journals. Highly cited COVID-19-related papers were distributed in high IF journals. This increases the inequality of IF in research category. In conclusion, our findings imply that IF is vu

This paper provides novel insights into labor market dynamics during the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent recovery period in Uruguay. Using social security administrative records, we focus on the gender-differentiated patterns of labor market transitions following the pandemic outbreak, compared to a previous period. Furthermore, we evaluate the role of unemployment insurance (UI) as an instrument for employment protection during the pandemic-induced recession. The analysis reveals that womenparticularly those with children and earning low wagesexperienced greater employment and wage losse

Through a real time analysis of the Covid-19 pandemic across rural Zimbabwe, this Working Paper explores the competing narratives that framed responses and their politics. Based on 20 moments of reflection over two years, together with ongoing document and media analysis and an intensive period of qualitative interviewing, a complex, dynamic story of the pandemic ‘drama’ emerges, which contrasts with snapshot perspectives. Across the period, a science-led public health narrative intersects with a security and control narrative promoted by the state and is countered by a citizens’ narrative tha

We estimate the slope of the housing price gradient -the relationship between prices and distance to the center or employment density- in Mexico City, using administrative and survey data on housing prices in from 2019 to 2022. Our estimates rule out statistically significant changes in the slope of the housing price gradient after 2020 Q1 with respect to the pre-pandemic period. The Mexico City case contrasts with developed-country cities, where the housing price gradient flattened during the COVID-19 pandemic, with housing price increases in the suburbs relative to central areas. Contact tracing apps could be used to control the COVID-19 outbreak. Most of them work by automatically registering another smartphone when it is too close for an extended period of time. Then if a user tests positive for Coronavirus in the future, the contact tracing app notifies these contacts. Some countries like Singapore and Australia have already adopted or rolled out their own contact tracing apps. Concerns have been raised about misuse of personal data. The consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic will reverberate across North Carolina’s local economy for many years. We surveyed the state’s local economic development organizations (EDOs) in the fall of 2021 about how they responded to (1) the pandemic’s immediate crisis period as well as (2) their strategies for long-term recovery. The results show the uneven and bifurcated nature of the recovery process. While some communities have enjoyed a robust “return to normal,” for many the pandemic remains a serious and enduring threat to economic prosperity. We recommend that policymakers leverage prov
