Abstract:
Being the face slabs of high concrete faced rockfill dams (CFRD) are under complex stress state, the slabs are relative vulnerable. And crack is easy to form on slab, which can influence durability and integrity, then weaken impermeable ability and safety of dam. The factors that contribute to the structural cracks, non-structural cracks and extruding cracks of concrete face-slab are analyzed in detail. The result shows that the structural crack is mainly due to differential settlement, the extruding crack in riverbed position is mainly caused by rockfill body over-settlement of dam beyond 150

Due to the relatively low tensile strength of concrete, cracks are inevitable in reinforced concrete structures. Therefore, studying the cracking behaviour of reinforced concrete elements and controlling the width of cracks are necessary objectives both in research and in design. The introduction of higher strength reinforcing steel has exacerbated the problem of crack control. Using higher strength steel, means less steel is required for a given structure to satisfy the strength requirements. The stiffness after cracking is reduced and wider crack widths will occur under normal service loads.

Abstract:
Failures due to stress-corrosion cracking (SCC) generally involve several adjacent, parallel, deep cracks that because of their proximity coalesce to form long flaws, which can cause ruptures.Recent studies indicate that such multiple flaws cause a local increase in compliance as compared to a single crack that represents the largest of the cracks involved. This means that the failure pressure for such a group of cracks can be poorly represented by a single flaw failure criterion, such as the Pipe Axial Flaw Failure Criterion (PAFFC) developed for the Pipeline Research Council International, In

Abstract:
Concrete is a critical component of so much of the modern construction industry. This material, well known for its versatility, robustness, longevity, and strength, is well-suited for a wide range of structural applications. Nonetheless, the widespread occurrence of cracks in concrete structures, primarily attributed to its limited tensile strength, shrinkage, and overstain, imposes a considerable economic and environmental challenge when it comes to retrofitting these fissures. This study tackles this problem by harnessing bacteria tolerant to high alkaline conditions to enable Microbially In

Abstract:
The US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE)-maintained lock on the Inner Harbor Navigation Canal serves as a critical navigation link between Lake Pontchartrain to the north and the Mississippi River to the south. Extensive slumping has been observed on the earthen embankment on each side of the lock, suggesting that internal pathways for water to escape through the lock’s concrete walls or joints are present. Unfortunately, traditional methods often used to identify cracks in the concrete (e.g., sidescan sonar) or water-filled voids under or behind the structure (e.g., ground-penetrating radar) di
