Abstract:
This arts-based practice lead research project investigates the invisibility of older women in the media, in research, in galleries and in feminist enquiry. As an older woman and a feminist activist artist I am in an ideal position to make work that highlights the unnerving realisation that with invisibility (a phenomenon that occurs around the time of menopause) comes a silencing of older women’s voices. This results in the representation of older women in advertising and the movies as a homogenous collection rather than a diverse and interesting cohort. My research illuminated older women ar

Through this dissertation, I set out to investigate how craftivism as a way of making with/for meaning might foster transformative experiences within the discipline of art education. My motivating questions for this research project as I began my qualitative process follow. In what ways does my art-making inform my teaching practice? How do both my art and teaching practice inform my research practice? In what ways does my feminist identity impact these practices, ways of thinking and knowing, and the process of becoming who I am? And why is this research relevant to the field of art education

The core of the project lies in upcycling. From the start of the research, I wanted to find new creative ways of upcycling garments and textiles. However, upcycling is a part of a greater whole which deals with addressing the problem of fashion waste. It gives new value to the clothes and prolongs the life span of the clothes. It is a craftivism act since it plugs into an existing system and shapes it towards a more sustainable direction. Thus this project wanted to take a larger approach and include consumers into the process. The purpose of the project was to explore one of the ways to encour

Samt: Vari ligger den politiska potentialen i en sådan strategi? Uppsatsen är skriven ur ett feministiskt perspektiv och berör de delvis överlappande fälten konsthantverk, design och konst, med en gemensam genusproblematik.
