Suzuki Indo Mobil / Motorcycle is the largest motorcycle manufacturing industry in Indonesia today. Die Casting is one of the departments that is important in the manufacture of motorcycle parts. In the Die Cating section, there are a number of types of defects that exceed the company tolerance standards. During the February to July period, 228 pcs of defect products were found. For this reason, it is necessary to determine the most dominant factor in the occurrence of defects and determine the proposed improvement of the root problem. The paper deals with the bending stress concentration evaluation of a marine diesel engine crankshaft. Experimental strain gauge tests were conducted on a full scale single crank to measure the stress concentration near the crank fillet. A three-dimensional finite element schematization of the crankshaft and the linear elastic calculations conducted show the stress field along the most overstressed zone and how it is influenced by different load conditions. It is now possible to calculate accurately the stress concentration factor Kt. However, a mesh of a mechanical element with a complex geom

AbstractThis paper presents a numerical study of the sensitivity of a fluid model known as time relaxation model with respect to variations of the time relaxation coefficientχ. The sensitivity analysis of this model is utilized by the sensitivity equation method and uses the finite element method along with Crank Nicolson method in the fully discretization of the partial differential equations. We present a test case in support of the sensitivity convergence and also provide a numerical comparison between two different strategies of computing the sensitivity, sensitivity equation method and fo

In MAC (Diesel) engines case, the shape of the piston head has an important influence on burning processes and, consequently on engine performance. Since the piston is subjected to high cyclic stresses during the blasting phase, a fatigue phenomenon occur. The piston design and material must provide a high fatigue resistance and a low weight, leading to low dynamic loading of the crank shaft and piston rod. The paper try to investigate the piston fatigue behavior, for several head shapes and materials, in order to establish an optimal design.

The selective precision synthesis (SPS) technique is modified by adopting the displacement matrix approach and using binary links as basic elements. This modified SPS (MSPS) can thus be applied to the synthesis of slider-crank mechanisms as well. With the introduction of ‘maximum allowable angular deviation’, the mechanism construction error (MCE) at a design point can be eliminated. The link length adjustment is also found to be a useful tool for the case of infinite MCE. The proposed MSPS is shown to be logical and effective by a practical design example.

The geared five-bar mechanism possesses kinematic abilities that qualify its utility in various industrial applications. Small changes to the mechanism topology or dimensions create new designs with different motion characteristics. This article presents design-orientated kinematical insights and mathematical treatments for the embodiment of the mechanism in which the end gear is eccentrically pivoted to a sliding element. For its synthesis, a kinematic classification is introduced and approximate curves are used to guide the motion of the slider. A gradient-based Levenberg–Marquardt formulati

A numerical comparison of the Monte Carlo (MC) simulation and the finite-difference method for pricing European options under a regime-switching framework is presented in this paper. We consider pricing options on stocks having two to four volatility regimes. Numerical results show that the MC simulation outperforms the Crank–Nicolson (CN) finite-difference method in both the low-frequency case and the high-frequency case. Even though both methods have linear growth, as the number of regimes increases, the computational time of CN grows much faster than that of MC. In addition, for the two-sta

The form deviation values after correction are being compared with those obtained before. In case of crank pins, values of form deviations, and hence those of corrections, are much larger than for main journals. A time dependent nonlinear partial differential equation modelling heat transfer in a porous radial fin is considered. The Differential Transformation Method is employed in order to account for the steady state case. These solutions are then used as a means of assessing the validity of the numerical solutions obtained via the Crank-Nicolson finite difference method. In order to engage in the stability of this scheme we conduct a stability and dynamical systems analysis. These provide us with an assessment of the impact of the nonlinear sink terms on the stability of the numerical scheme employ

The main advantage of this scheme is that it is unconditionally stable and explicit. Consistency and monotonicity of the scheme are discussed. Several finite difference schemes are used to compare the Saul’yev scheme with them. Numerical illustrations are given to demonstrate the efficiency and robustness of the scheme.
