Abstract:
This research is aimed at identifying the features of ‘talented candidates’ sought after by professional human resources and recruiters in major companies. First, this research investigated how they perceive potential candidates by examining various standards with which candidates are evaluated in recruiting process. Various perceptions of ‘talented candidates’ was summarized into a questionnaire of 99 Q statements. The participants were then responded into ‘who you want to recruit’ and ‘who you don't want to recruit.’ The responses were subsequently subdivided by factor analysis employing the Q- Methodology. Wide perception of people’s for ‘talented candidate’ can be epitomized into a person who generates hard results, leads co-workers, and remains loyal to the organization with a proper dose of balance in professional life. They all seemed to embody the properties of a ‘passionate CEO’, an ‘eminent field expert’, or a ‘trophy-winning consultant’. To the contrary, the images of candidates unwanted by companies could be associated with the features of workers being laid off. These were a ‘couch potato with a sigh’, a ‘barely-surviver’ or ‘greedy-for-security’. Further subdividing those wanted and unwanted by companies leads to 6 categories of talents. Those wanted by companies were categorized into: ‘earlier company founder’, ‘corporate-fitter’, and ‘contract-based’. Those unwanted by companies were categorized into: ‘always-being-sacrificed’, ‘spec-builder’, and ‘need-based employee’. The categorization made clear there is a difference between talents companies crave and talents wanting to be hired, which reveals a dichotomy between a candidate and a recruiter. In the case of professional HR officials and recruiters, it was clear that a candidate with certain predispositions at company side for company were wanted more.

Ponce, Gabriela. "Staging Crave, a play by Sarah Kane." OpenSIUC, 2012. https://opensiuc.lib.siu.edu/theses/1063.

Full text
Abstract:
Crave, the play I chose to direct as my thesis final project, constitutes a complex and crude portrait of our time, a moment in history marked by violence and individualism. These themes permeate the whole script, with its experimental and poetic style constitutes a challenge at the moment of staging it. This document is intended precisely to register the whole process of staging Crave. The first chapter presents the pre-production research, in which I trace the artistic trajectory of the author, British playwright Sarah Kane, in the context of experimental theater. I also analyze the play, and I present my directorial approach to it. In the second chapter I register the actual process of staging it; the methodologies I used in working with the actors and the designers, as well as the challenges I faced in applying them. Finally, the last chapter is a reflection upon the whole process, with the intention of evaluating my growth as a theater director through this project, which constitutes my final step in these training years at SIUC.

Abstract:
Sarah Kane has often been categorized as an “In-Yer-Face” playwright, part of a group of contemporary British playwrights interested in making audiences feel the outcome of violence. However, Kane’s plays have also arguably challenged many existing theatrical forms, including the late twentieth century resurgence of “Angry Young Men” plays. While critics have been quick to identify madness as a main theme of her work, few have connected each play’s complex construction of madness with a struggle to complicate existing theatrical form. Through an intersectionally feminist reading of three of her plays—Blasted, Crave, and 4.48 Psychosis—this thesis examines the connection between the rejection of normative disability tropes (or madness, more specifically) and the challenging construction of theatrical form that takes place within each of these Kane plays.

Struik, Laura Louise. "Young adult smoking cessation and mobile health : a qualitative investigation of the Crush the Crave app." Thesis, University of British Columbia, 2017. http://hdl.handle.net/2429/62196.

Full text
Abstract:
Smoking remains a major public health issue, particularly among young adults because smoking rates are highest in this demographic. With young adults’ low uptake of the various smoking cessation interventions available, innovative ways to support young adult smoking cessation are needed, and there is much enthusiasm about the use of mobile phones, especially apps, to reach this population. How these tools influence smoking cessation, however, remains largely unknown. Therefore, the purpose of this qualitative case study was to understand the design and use of the mobile app, Crush the Crave (CTC), for helping young adults quit smoking. Data included document analysis, fieldwork, and semi-structured interviews with 15 key informants (those involved in the development of CTC) and 31 young adult CTC users. Guided by sociomateriality theory and an affordances approach, as well as a gender-based analysis, data were inductively analyzed to derive thematic findings in relation to the influence of CTC on young adult’s quit smoking efforts. Findings were grouped per the overall strengths and limitations of the app, and the affordances of the app. Affordances were grouped according to each design component of the app: credibility, task support, social support, and dialogue support. Data from key informants revealed the expectations of CTC for helping young adults quit smoking, which were juxtaposed to young adults’ actual experiences with the app. While key informants’ expectations often aligned with young adults’ experiences, there were also some noteworthy differences and additional experiences that the key informants did not anticipate. The credibility, task support, and dialogue support functions lent to largely positive experiences and practices, including trust in the app, encouragement and motivation for quitting, and enhanced awareness of smoking behaviour. The social support component lent to negative user experiences (vulnerability) and practices (low engagement) that rendered this aspect as the weakest component in supporting efforts to quit. There were also some notable gender differences and similarities in relation to the preferences and experiences of young women and men. This study highlights both productive and unproductive approaches to the development of smoking cessation apps, and offers new directions for future improvements and app development.

Kerbiriou, Christian. "Impact des changements d'usage sur la viabilité d'une population menacée dans un espace multi-protégé : le Crave à bec rouge (Pyrrhocorax pyrrhocorax) sur l'île d'Ouessant." Phd thesis, Museum national d'histoire naturelle - MNHN PARIS, 2006. http://tel.archives-ouvertes.fr/tel-00177416.

Full text
Abstract:

Abstract:
The creation of digital twins has been on a rise in the last years, and digital twins are becoming an essential part in today's industries. To be able to keep up, the engineering students at Högskolan i Halmstad need to follow and explore the current development. The goal with this project is to introduce digital twins to the students and give them a wider knowledge about the future of manufacturing. In this project a digital twin was developed from a physical crane. The digital twin was made from a CAD model and was imported into a simulator to replicate the physical robot and its parts. The digital twin had virtual sensors installed and may be considered a cyber-physical system.

Fagereng, Christian. "Mathematical Modeling for Marine Crane Operations." Thesis, Norges teknisk-naturvitenskapelige universitet, Institutt for marin teknikk, 2011. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:no:ntnu:diva-15511.

Full text
Abstract:
As mathematical models for marine vessel dynamics are frequently used for several different purposes there is a need for finding ways of facilitating connection of sub models to extend these models to include various equipment of interest which affects the vessel dynamics. The bond graph modeling language is a natural platform for this since it can be used to describe several different disciplines or energy domains using the same basic system elements. Thus for example electrical systems affecting mechanical systems can easily be modeled and connected. However the basic bond graph modeling concept has to be extended for use in multi-dimensional problems since standard procedures soon become difficult or impossible for larger systems. Using rigid body dynamics such systems can easily be created and incorporated with vessel dynamic equations. Rigid body bond graph can also be used to develop models of various other equipment. But when connecting several such systems together rigidly, causality problems will arise. The solution is to use the mathematical equivalent to a stiff spring in between the rigid bodies, thus the connection will not be entirely rigid. In this thesis the development of such multi-dimensional bond graph has been research. A model for a simplified barge has been developed. It is clear that such models has great potential, but as with all other mathematical models of marine vessel dynamics accurate simulation results rely on accurate hydrodynamic coefficients which can be hard to derive. Using the same procedure for multi-dimensional bond graph as for vessel modeling it is possible derive a model representing a pendulum. Which with some modification such as actuators represent a crane beam. Using three dimensional bond graph joints based on the concept of stiff springs to connect several such models a crane model is developed. The model is tested and it is found that the stiff springs in the connections may induce high vibrational natural frequencies which can affect simulation time. For such problems damping in the joint may be adopted. The barge model and the crane model are interfaced using bond graph joints and it is shown that the movement of the crane indeed will induce forces on the barge as expected. This proves that 6DOF systems (six degrees of freedom) for several different mechanical component can be interfaced and facilitate the modeling of marine vessel dynamics and the connection of sub systems. Thus an efficient way of modeling such systems has been achieved. To demonstrate the simulation result of the models developed in the thesis animations have been generated and is included in the attached CD.

Bratton, Francesca Amelia. "Hart Crane and the little magazine." Thesis, Durham University, 2017. http://etheses.dur.ac.uk/11996/.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis examines Hart Crane’s oeuvre through a detailed appraisal of his publishing history in little magazines. The main contention of this thesis is that Crane’s relationships with his periodical publishers shaped his poetic development, and that new light is shed on these works through their recontextualisation in their original periodical contexts. This raises a secondary question: how does Crane’s publication in journals and his relationships with editors affect the reception of his poetry, and can patterns established in his immediate reception be found in later criticism. This study takes a new approach in its methodology, both in relation to existing studies of Crane, and as a way of dealing with a writer’s body of work. By examining, as D. F. McKenzie has put it, ‘the sociology of texts’ and their ‘processes of transmission, including production and reception’, forgotten contexts of Crane’s poetry are able to emerge. As well as uncovering new works by Crane, an examination of Crane’s periodical networks highlights the influence of particular strands of Modernism on his development, such as ‘post-Decadent’ forms advanced in Greenwich Village journals, the American Futurist experiments active in American magazines based in Europe, and the proto-Surrealist experiments with metaphor that inform Crane’s own associative aesthetic. This study also traces the interconnections between poetic form and publishing. Crane’s long poems, 'The Bridge', ‘For the Marriage of Faustus and Helen’ and the ‘Voyages’, were all published in fragments in a number of different journals, and these publishing formats are found to be aesthetically significant for these texts, and articulate Crane’s wider interest in fragment and collage forms.

Abstract For years, computers have promised to revolutionize education. Educators crave and skeptics demand justification for the large outlay of resources required to introduce information technology into the curriculum. Engineering educators have drawn upon the work of education theorists, computer scientists and communication experts to explore the effectiveness of this promising technology in their curricula. This paper analyzes three pairs of students using various solution techniques to solve a mechanical engineering design problem. We will focus on the use of a computer-based simulation tool and its effect on the students’ process of solving the problem. We will use two learning theories to explore the learning environment and draw conclusions about the effectiveness of the computer simulation for teaching engineering.

Abstract:
The examination of the ‘incoming’ generation as a new sociocultural type of contemporary human remains relevant at all times. The eldest representatives of the new generation (so called ‘Generation Z’ or the ‘Digital generation’) are today’s alumni who crave to take over the world, re-arranging it in accordance with their interests and views, and claim to become the ‘leading generation’ of our century. Research into this generation, the attempt to understand it is undoubtedly an important task. This material is dedicated to the matter of defining the interrelation between individualisation and the massification in ‘generation Z’ representatives. The research methods used in the study are as follows: philosophic-anthropological analysis, content-analysis, and scientific data interpretation. The research work contains the thesis that tendencies of individualisation and massification in the lives of ‘digital children’ are inextricable and consistent. The role of the Internet in general and social networks in particular in the process of individualisation of Generation Z is discussed, touching on the problem of ‘stereotypness’, by which individualisation of a person begins to be built in cyberspace. The new generation, on the one hand, is somewhat disconnected from the real world, feeling and creating its uniqueness and individuality, and on the other hand, maintaining a sense of community, unity and solidarity, but only often through a virtual environment. At the same time, consolidating quickly and going offline as needed.

Some customers crave Улога савремене технологије у општењу посредника и заступника са осигураницима 34 personal attention and want to be able to speak with their insurance agents or brokers. Others simply want easy access to information and a way to deliver information that is not stressful or disruptive. For that reason, insurance brokers or agents should use modern technology to off er multiple communication channels. Th is can include websites, mobile devices, social media, remote communication and business process automation as it is pointed out in this article. More people are accessing the Internet on mobile devices than on desktop computers. Insurance agents and brokers should make sure their websites are compatible with most (if not all) mobile devices. Another solution is to create a mobile app to make it easy for consumers to access their sites on the go. Social media for insurance agents and brokers has challenges. However, social media is now critical to the insurance business. Th e rewards they can reap on social media far outweigh the obstacles. Insurance sales and consultations have always been about connection. Brokers and agents make a connection with clients. Abstract:
As sandhill crane populations continue to grow in the United States, so too does crop damage, property damage to homeowners, and the risk of crane collisions with aircraft. Whooping crane populations also continue to grow, but with a global population of about 500 individuals (as of 2017), damage is rare and problems often require different solutions due to the species’ endangered status. The sandhill crane (Grus canadensis), is a long-lived, member of the crane family (Gruidae) and the most numerous of the 15 crane species found worldwide. Over the last 50 years, the species has grown from a rarity─ requiring extensive protection─ to an abundant, widespread species. As their populations have increased, so too have their conflicts with people. Both sandhill and whooping cranes are protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA) of 1918. This law strictly prohibits the capture, killing, or possession of sandhill and whooping cranes without proper permits. However, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) can issue depredation permits under this act for the shooting of sandhill cranes that causeagricultural damage or threaten human health and safety. No federal permit is required to use non-lethal management methods to reduce damage by sandhill cranes.
