Abstract:
This thesis breaks new ground by attending to two contemporary developments in art and science. In art, computer-mediated interactive artworks comprise creative engagement between collaborating practitioners and a creatively participating audience, erasing all notions of a dividing line between them. The procedural character of this type of communicative real-time interaction replaces the concept of a finished artwork with a ‘field of artistic communication'. In science, the field of creativity research investigates creative thought as mental operations that combine and reorganise extant knowledge structures. A recent paradigm shift in cognition research acknowledges that cognition is embodied. Neither embodiment in cognition nor the ‘field of artistic communication' in interactive art have been assimilated by creativity research. This thesis takes an interdisciplinary approach to examine the embodied cognitive processes in a ‘field of artistic communication' using a media artwork called Sim-Suite as a case study research strategy. This interactive installation, created and exhibited in an authentic real-world context, engages three people to play on wobble-boards. The thesis argues that creative processes related to Sim-Suite operate within a continuum, encompassing collaborative artistic creation and cooperative creative participation. This continuum is investigated via mixed methods, conducting studies with qualitative and quantitative analysis. These are interpreted through a theoretical lens of embodied cognition principles, the 4E approaches. The results obtained demonstrate that embodied cognitive processes in Sim-Suite's ‘field of artistic communication' function on a continuum. We give an account of the creative process continuum relating our findings to the ‘embedded-extended-enactive lens', empirical studies in embodied cognition and creativity research. Within this context a number of topics and sub-themes are identified. We discuss embodied communication, aspects of agency, forms of coordination, levels of evaluative processes and empathetic foundation. The thesis makes conceptual, empirical and methodological contributions to creativity research.

Abstract:
This doctoral dissertation focuses on two major issues: Creation and Evolution. So, we began studying the classical view of creation in Saint Thomas Aquinas to relate with evolution. We show here how Saint Thomas joins the concepts of creation and conservation to answer a set of issues that are rooted in the evolving world, giving the idea of continuous creation. We have found that in St. Thomas, next to the "stricto sensu’s creation", in which only appears the non-being and the whole being, another creation is described, that we have called "lato sensu’s creation", what is the ordinary one for that the most beings have appeared, and that is through a generation, which is necessarily linked to the laws of nature. This "lato sensu’s creation", implicit in the work of St. Thomas, matches well with the further progress of the universe, and in which the previously created generating forces are playing. Also, in light of the scientific discoveries of the XIXth-XXth centuries a global, cosmic, biological and anthropological evolution it is noted, whose original and recent scientific bases we showed briefly. From this, we have made an attempt of synthesis of classical metaphysics and scientific news on evolution, developing the thought of contemporary philosophers as Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, Karl Rahner, Ferdinand Ulrich and Hans Urs von Balthasar, that combine both issues, classical metaphysics of creation and scientific evolution. We have shown that it is possible a new interpretation of these thomasian notions in order to metaphysically base a progressive evolution, that is, where there is gain of being, from the metaphysics of ontical growth by union by Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, the idea of creative self-overcoming through a very special divine concursus by Karl Rahner, and the ideas of finitization and superessentiality of being by Ferdinand Ulrich and Hans Urs von Balthasar. In this thesis, we show that is possible to combine the idea of evolution with the creation, seeing evolution as the specific mechanism of creation, and interpreting creation as an action supported by God, who set a world with physical laws and metaphysical principles that lead to the emergence of an intelligence able to explore the world, to create beauty, to aspire to justice, to love, and to recognize the Creator. In two words, we can talk today about a new concept: evolutionary creation.

Abstract:
Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the structure of social marketing within a collaboration between non-profit organisations (NPOs) and business organisations as well as whether this collaboration facilitates the process of social marketing for the NPOs. For this purpose, Austin and Seitanidi´s (2012a, 2012b, 2014) Collaborative Value Creation (CVC) framework was applied to social marketing as value outcome by combining it with Andreasen and Kotler´s (2003) model of the social marketing process in NPOs. Method: A qualitative study was conducted based on secondary and primary data. Hereby, primary data was gathered from a total of seven NPOs and twelve respondents across Sweden by the use of face-to-face and phone interviews. Result & Conclusions: Two main findings were identified in this study. Firstly, within the process of social marketing in a corporate-NPO collaboration the NPOs predominantly plan and design the campaigns independently. Hereby, it is shown that the NPO´s organisational model of operation influences the collaboration structure. Secondly, it is demonstrated that the corporate-NPO collaboration facilitates the NPOs social marketing process. Suggestions for future research: Further investigations of NPOs could be undertaken by distinguishing between their organisational model and area of operation in order to complement the presented theoretical model of the social marketing process in the corporate-NPO collaboration. Additionally, the perspective of business organisations could be considered. Contribution of the thesis: The present study contributes to literature by providing a theoretical model based of the social marketing process in the corporate-NPO collaboration. It demonstrates that this collaboration facilitates the social marketing process of the NPOs.

Jaffe, Yitzchak. "The Continued Creation of Communities of Practice – Finding Variation in the Western Zhou Expansion (1046-771 BCE)." Thesis, Harvard University, 2016. http://nrs.harvard.edu/urn-3:HUL.InstRepos:33493408.

Abstract:
This work explores the question of when and how China became Chinese by studying state sponsored colonial expansion and intercultural interactions during the Western Zhou period (1046-771 BCE). Because Confucius and his followers considered this period the golden age of civilization, scholars have traditionally paid little attention to existing ethnic and cultural diversity and created the illusion that Chinese culture, in Han style, already existed at this early date. However, my investigation of everyday activities, food preparation and ritual events surrounding mortuary customs, highlights the complex relationship between the Zhou the people they encountered. Following their conquest of the Shang polity in the middle of the 11th century BCE, the Zhou began a swift campaign of colonization during which members of the royal family were sent to defend and expand strategic zones around the new realm. The traditional narrative – one that focuses on the formation of the later unified Chinese Empire and civilization – sees the Zhou as those who, through military expansion and conquest, successfully Sinicized and acculturated the peoples that would make up the Chinese world. In fact the Qin state would draw heavily on this notion of a unified Zhou culture to unite all under heaven and create the first Chinese empire in 221 BCE. Yet this narrative, the product of later political discourse, overemphasizes the homogeneity of Zhou identity and fails to account for the multifaceted nature of Chinese culture and origins. These interpretations have relied heavily on later historical texts and information gleaned from inscriptions of bronze ritual vessels, themselves biased towards the Zhou elite world view, while archaeology has mainly played a second fiddle to historical reconstructions. My dissertation compared separate regions of the Zhou expansion: Gansu in the west, Shandong peninsula in the East and the Shanxi plains to the north of the Central Plains, which each represent different types of interactions between the local populations and the Zhou newcomers. Cemeteries are examined to investigate the mortuary customs of local people and ceramic vessels to study culinary traditions, in an effort to show how everyday practices and ritual culture were influenced by the Zhou. Culinary research involved the detailed study and usewear analysis of freshly excavated ceramic assemblages to understand community specific cooking and serving practices. Ceramic assemblages from four pre-Zhou and Zhou sites in Shandong province were compared to sites in the core zone of the Zhou polity to assess the impact of the Zhou arrival. My analysis shows that each of the four sites observed its own community specific culinary traditions: An increase in cooking vessel size at some ‒ indicating a shift from to larger eating parties ‒ while others the way food was cooked: from a mix of roasting and braising cooking modes to a focus on boiling and stewing. In Gansu the Zhou had little impact on the multitude of existing community-specific mortuary practices and remained separate from the local population, while in the Beijing area the Zhou invaders played down their military identity and allowed local groups to participate in their mortuary practices. Consequently my study finds that the Zhou expansion did not result in the homogenization of the ancient cultural landscape, but instead that the Zhou influence had unequal results: from acceptance to rejection and mostly to its reorganization to suit local needs and agendas. In effect these interactions created various new forms of localized social identities across North China that differ profoundly from the homogeneous Zhou elite culture depicted in the canonical histories, whic have traditionally been used to understand the period. The Zhou influence was regional in scope but local in outcome. Social identities were constantly in flux, and intensified interaction created new forms of localized social identities.
Anthropology

Abstract:
Social agents in the youth sport domain (coaches, parents, and peers) play a crucial role in developing the motivational approaches of youth sport athletes. One theory which has been useful in explaining the important role of such social agents has been Achievement Goal Theory (Nicholls, 1989). Specifically, Achievement Goal Theory was used to delineate various peer behaviors as being task-involving (Ntoumanis & Vazou, 2005) and was used to predict subsequent relationships relationship between the task-involving motivational-climate created by teammates and athletes’ mastery goal orientations and self-esteem, sport competence, enjoyment, and intention to continue playing sport. Participants were 405 boys aged 12-15 years. Using structural equation modeling, an exploratory analysis and confirmatory analysis revealed that higher levels of task-involving behaviors from peers predicted mastery goal orientation. Participants with higher mastery goal orientation reported greater sport competence, self-esteem, and more enjoyment; enjoyment was the strongest predictor of intention to continue. These findings both emphasize the importance of peer relationships within sport on a variety of motivationally and psychologically salient outcomes and provide direction for the development of training programs targeted to create positive and healthy sport experiences.

Abstract:
Background: Customer do not intend to purchase a product or service that does not provide them with value and this is something that companies have to consider. At the same time companies aim to achieve financial or non-financial profits by selling their products or services. The market is very competitive and ultimately it is the consumers who have the power to pick and choose whatever alternative that fits them best. Hence, this is something companies have to take into consideration. The private sector provides services rather than products and it is this which is used to attract customers and therefore something companies continually have to work with in order to survive in the market. In order to investigate this, different companies’ view of value creation, continual learning and resources have been studied. Aim: To investigate how service companies work with value creation, continual learning and utilized resources (within the range of internal development work). The aim is also to compare company’s level of maturity and suggest where improvements can be made. Methodology: The study is qualitative with a hermeneutic approach. Data were collected from scientific articles, internet sources and books. Four companies and five persons in total participated in the study and were interviewed using a semi-structured interview form. The data was later analyzed with the help of an organizational IQ-test. Results and conclusion: Companies often have a similar ethos in the way they think about value creation and continuous learning. However, the empirical data shows that companies differ in regard to conflict management, as well as some of the companies having difficulties in making changes at the local level because they act in a global marked. In order to achieve value creation and continuous learning all the companies use a great deal of resources to meet the needs and demands from customers. However, the maturity level of value creation and continuous learning look different between various companies because the companies are good at different activities. It is in these areas there lies the potential for improvement. Contribution of the thesis: It provides increased knowledge in how the private service sector works with value creation and continual learning. It also provides further knowledge of how the service sector excels, its maturity grade in value creation and continual learning, and how they can improve.

Mediation allows us to rethink the heterogeneous world. Hence our research question on how to catalyze a “mediation continuum” approach. The first part of the thesis develops a review of the literature on Mediation: Habermas's theory of communicational action, to its current interpretations, that led us to identify the analytical grid: Objective, Relationship, Process and Duration that we used to inventory mediation practices applied today then we putted forward our three research questions: Mintzberg adhocratic structure (1) combined with the trust factor (2) and orchestra-man factor (3) as the configuration allowing the desired “mediation continuum”.The second part lays out a methodology based on a hybrid exploratory survey conducted using an abductive approach where we collect data through a qualitative survey, semi-directive interviews and participative observations in order to exploit the organization Association educative Sino-Française (A.C.E.S.F) as a platform to answer the research questions. The third part puts forward the lessons learned from the case study, their interpretations and that we have concluded with the methodological and managerial contributions: structured mediation inventory (1) attributes to mediators in an intercultural framework (2) form of trust and the cultural specificity of the interlocutor in an intercultural context (3) and managerial input of this work that consists in a form of adhocratic chain as an organigram

Abstract:
Outdoor School is a cherished educational tradition in the Portland, OR region. This program's success is attributed to its presumed ability to positively impact affective and cognitive student outcomes. Residential programs such as Outdoor School are considered to be an important supplement to the classroom model of learning because they offer an authentic, contextually rich learning environment. References to relevant literature support the idea that student gains in affective and cognitive domains occur as a result of the multi-sensory, enjoyable, hands-on nature of outdoor learning. The sample population for this study was 115 sixth graders from a demographically diverse Portland, OR school district. This study used an instrument developed by the Common Measures System that was administered to students as part of Outdoor School's professional and program development project. The affective student outcome data measured by the Common Measures instrument was complemented by a formative assessment probe ascertaining prior knowledge of the definition of plants and field notes detailing Field Study instructor lesson content. This first part of this study examined the changes that take place in students' attitudes toward science as a result of attending Outdoor School. The second part took a look at how Outdoor School instruction in the Plants field study aligned with NGSS MS-LS Disciplinary Core Ideas and Practices. The third section of the study compared how Outdoor School instruction in the Plants Field Study and students' prior knowledge of what defines a plant aligned with NGSS MS-LS DCIs. The intent of the research was to arrive at a more nuanced understanding of how students' attitudes toward science are influenced by participating in an outdoor education program and contribute to the development of a continuum between classroom and outdoor school learning using Next Generation Science Standards Disciplinary Core Ideas and Practices as a framework. Results of this study were intended to inform outdoor education program development, add to the existing body of research, and inform future research projects.

Hellman, Karl G. "Optimizing Marketing Activities for Different Levels of Customer Relationships." Digital Archive @ GSU, 2013. http://digitalarchive.gsu.edu/bus_admin_diss/27.

Abstract:
The discipline of marketing is evolving from a product centric paradigm where all value is invested in the product by the supplier and it is exchanged for a market determined price by means of an arm’s length transaction, to a service centric paradigm where value is co-created by customer and supplier through complex relationships in which the rewards are determined through negotiation. This study recognizes that in practice a supplier will and ought to continue to have some customer relationships that are transactional and others that involve higher levels of value co-creation. A five point continuum of relationships from transactional to strategic alliance is defined. Dyadic data in which customer and supplier are asked to evaluate the same relationship from their respective points of view are analyzed resulting in a portfolio of a supplier’s relationships that include each of the five levels. Three structured equation models are validated: first, the customer’s assessment of the level of relationship as a function of new, behaviorally anchored measures; second, the supplier’s assessment as a function of new, behaviorally anchored measures of investment; third, the differences between customer and supplier assessments as a function of differences in ratings of new, behaviorally anchored measures. Additionally, segmentation of the customer base is identified based on the level of assessment of the current and desired future level of relationship. Servicing processes are defined to enable the supplier to match the right offerings to each level of customer thereby optimizing their investment in their customer portfolio.

Abstract:
Tourism and Sport
Ph.D.
Using a theoretical synergy between the Psychological Continuum Model (PCM) and Behavioral Ecological Model (BEM), the current dissertation research provides empirical evidence to support that organized participant sporting events can play a significant role in building a healthier community. First, using a proprietary U.S. community-based panel data from 2008 to 2014, study 1 examines the incremental effects of participant sporting events (PSE) in promoting active living at the population level. Panel regression with an instrumental variable approach and Multigroup Latent Growth Curve Analysis were administered. The key findings included (1) these population-based interventions have the capacity to impact population health at the state level; (2) such an influence significantly varies across the United States contingent upon a state’s economic development and the geographical region to which a state belongs. In study 2, the Multilevel Mediation Analysis was conducted with a spatially clustered cross-sectional data in 2014. The findings revealed that the access to exercise opportunities at the state level represents the underlying mechanism through which various forms of participant sporting events have the ability to elicit positive effects on health with respects to mental health, physical health, and physical activity participation at the county level. The findings suggested that PSEs represent effective public health platform to create healthier communities through integrating physically active leisure into population’s everyday routines. Overall, empirical results also help us better understand the importance of effectively leveraging community sporting events to deliver required health benefits to the general public and create practical guidelines to inform policy formation on resource allocation.
Temple University--Theses

Abstract:
The current industrial world is facing frequent changes, which are sometimes abrupt. This is due to the scientific and technical progresses and increasingly challenging needs of customers. Therefore, to deal with these disruptions and ensure competitiveness, manufacturers are developing methods to control and improve their processes for greater performance. Lean management is one of such methods that has proven its effectiveness in controlling and improving process (especially in manufacturing process). However, the Product Development Process (PDP) remains one of the most important industrial challenges, since it is where PDP actors take the major decisions related to strategy, organization, delay, development and manufacturing costs. That is why methods to control and improve this process have to be developed. Nevertheless, the PDP complexity makes direct application of existing Lean methods difficult. Thus, this research project aims at proposing a methodology for controlling and improving the PDP based on a Lean approach in order to manage the creation and the transformation of the value in this process. This methodology adapts especially the first two principles of Lean, namely the definition of value and its mapping in the given process. We so propose a framework for defining value that can be adapted to the evolutions of the company’s strategy. This definition tries to exhaustively take into account all the PDP stakeholders, so that the value is shared by everyone. We also propose a value mapping tool for the PDP, which complies with PDP specificities and proposed value definition. All these research works have been tested in the industrial partner, Exxelia Technologies

Abstract:
This thesis aims at contributing to new possibilities in Education. Therefore the goal of this research is to analyze teacher↔students↔students relationships through statements (oral, written and imagistic) produced in a cosy classroom environment based on a methodology that invests in a creative process. The material for analysis is made of utterance images or text interactions that took place in a 3rd year classroom in an elementary school, in which the teacher participated in a service-oriented further education project. It refers to a specific project, the CIVITAS/LELIC/PPGEDU/UFRGS project, which arose from the search for new alternatives to make educational contexts operational and to do research in basic education, and extends the scope both of academic research and university extension. Mikhail Bakhtin, Italo Calvino and Marc Augé were important sources to study such a student, who occupies here a space of transience between "being a child" and "being a student or an apprentice", an area of free passage for invention-creation, a transitory non-place of imagination. Starting from the researcher‟s perspective as she plunges into raising the issue between theory and practice, we propose three planes that compound to make up the course of the study, namely: the plane of immersion, the plane of involvement, and the plane of interpretation. As a result trials, in which adventures in imagination mixed with everyday reality, linked with learning. The teacher, in her in(ter)ventions with the students, without losing track of curricular content goals, invested in dialogue, and kept attentively listening to the classroom. This movement led to an ethical attitude of respect for students, thus leading to a teacher↔students↔students aesthetic relationship that appeared in this specific context and permeated all interactions that took place there. Among the many manners to consider the issue of learning, we believe that a proposition based on further education and on a methodology that invests both in a creative process and in classroom relationships forms a novel possibility to enhance learning.

Kruger, Germari. "Synthetic biology : a theological-ethical evaluation from a Reformed perspective / Germari Kruger." Thesis, 2015. http://hdl.handle.net/10394/15348.

Full text
Abstract:
Synthetic biology is a relatively new discipline within the field of biotechnologies. In essence it is the artificial creation of microorganisms. Though similar in principle, it differs from genetic engineering because it creates an organism from scratch, rather than cutting and pasting DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) between existing organisms. This study investigates the ethical aspects (both rational and theological) concerned with synthetic biology through the use of a literature analysis. The study starts by investigating and describing the origins, pioneers, science and uses of synthetic biology. Secondly, it describes and ethically assesses the rational arguments for and against synthetic biology by comparing its benefits and risks. Lastly, the study describes and ethically assesses synthetic biology within the Reformed tradition, mainly by using the creational perspective of Christian ethical evaluations (including concepts such as creatio ex nihilio; creatio continua and imago Dei) and secondary the re-creational and eschatological perspectives. The final conclusion reached shows that synthetic biology is acceptable from a Reformed theological-ethical perspective, because humans as the image of God can create, just as God constantly creates new things and created a new universe from nothing. The rational arguments state that the potential benefits of synthetic biology surpass the risks it poses. Hence, it supports the idea that synthetic biology can be used to fulfil God’s commandment to love one’s neighbour, by improving his circumstances and activating hope. Nevertheless, Christians should always stay vigilant about motives and possible uses when dealing with new technologies. How and for what synthetic biology is used should in the future be constantly reviewed. In this way Christian scientists can still inquire about their work: Does it glorify God?
MA (Ethics), North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2015

Šipka, Magdaléna. "Vztah mezi teologií a poezií u Dorothee Sölle." Master's thesis, 2017. http://www.nusl.cz/ntk/nusl-368731.

Abstract:
This dissertation examines the poetry of Dorothee Sölle, particularly her seven books of collected poems - Meditationen & Gebrauchstexte, Revolutionäre geduld, Fliegen lernen, Spiel doch von brot und rosen, Verrückt nach licht, Zivil und ungehörsam, Loben ohne lügen. At least two poems from each book are chosen for analysis based on the theological concept they express. It thus attempts to cover most of the concepts Sölle elaborates upon in her works. The second part of the thesis then focuses on the use of biblical passages in Dorothee Sölle's poetry, offering to view them in three subject cathegories based on her ways of working with them. Those are 1) 2) Re-telling the Bible, and 3) Contemplating upon the passages themselves. It further examines the synthesis of religious and social topics throughout her works, again suggesting to divide them into 1) Contemporary 2) Historical, and 3) Stuctural, based on the nature of the social topics portrayed in them. The thesis also explores Sölle's depiction of God, concluding that Sölle sees God in her poems not as a governing, dominating entity, but rather as a co-creator, God weeping and compassionate with the world. Sölle sees this image of God's empathy and involvement with man as an incentive for the man to become the same, to act similarly.

Abstract:
102
By way of creation and exploration on theory, this thesis deals with why the creature on earth would undergo “destruction” as well as “rebirth” following destruction and thus convey the idea of “continuum of existence and extinction”. Based on the issues of life vs.death and karma, it investigates the problems of the esthetical context related to the religious concepts and the arts. On the ground of the historical authentication of science on the earth, along with the in-depth insights on the life vs. death succession in the theological and artistic aspects, we express the thoughts of “life karma” and “existence & extinction without cease” through the artistic creation from the contents of research and personal experience and perception on the living, society and history and further reflect the contemporary status and represent the individual reflection on the epoch. The dissertation concept and the demonstration of the creation implementation in this thesis aim to explicate the eternal truth of continuous existence and extinction of material, the identification of life and death, leading to transmigration and transition. To that end, we first of all list the important paintings of the artists in each era on the issue of life and death. We also analyze the strong end-of-the-world psychological emotions which the painters of each age personally create about the life and death under the social atmosphere at that time. Relatively, the researchers bear the same emotions when they explore the contemporary adverse environment and situation. In the meantime, we investigate the idea and meaning of the life and death alternation, based on the religious, artistic, historical and personal mental experiences and demonstrate the way of saying of each theory on the transmigration of life material and their personal concepts on continuum of existence and extinction. The researchers furthermore make use of the forms of expression of the multi-media material art and the esthetical awareness and affectionate experiences of the personal painting in order to attain to the ability of enhancing the personal creation and constructing the new patterns. Through the study on relevant theory and the analysis on the formation theory of beauty in a series of works to build up the personal theoretical basis, create the beautiful paintings which are unique with the sense of beauty on life and death alternation. It also conveys the esthetical significance of the drawings and patterns. This thesis of study does not aim to authenticate and explore the problem or meaning of the life and death science. It is mainly designed to demonstrate that while there is formation, there will be decay for the substance or in the world. After the emptiness and void, there will be formation. This is the implication of life everlasting continuance and profundity. It is anticipated that by the thesis research and the creation of “existence” vs. “extinction” series we provide the personal viewpoints, the contents and value of the painting arts and reflective function to attain to the bi-directional dialectic ability of theory and practice on the beginning, ending, circulation and reciprocation of all things in the world.

Van, Rooyen André Johan. "Creating a commitment continuum through the development of shared values in the banking sector / André Johan van Rooyen." Thesis, 2013. http://hdl.handle.net/10394/10812.

Full text
Abstract:
Research is undertaken into the correlation between shared values and organisational performance. The issue of commitment continuity as a pre-requisite for improved financial and operational performance is investigated in detail. Emphasis is placed on the theories and nature of growth and sustainability; sustainable change within the organisation; and employee commitment emphasising aligned commitment as well as elements constituting the aligned commitment equation. The role of management has been identified as a determining factor that underlies the commitment of employees in an organisation. It is found that organisations should change their definition of “growth” from actual profits to the management of talent within the organisation in order to realise the benefits of sustained commitment. Literature studies into concepts such as shared values and shared vision and how these concepts can be inculcated into organisations through the implementation of effective change management processes is done. Should these concepts be universally accepted throughout the organisation, it will lead to organisational commitment which will eventually evolve into a commitment continuum. The presence of a commitment continuum will inevitably lead to the achievement of sustainable growth and a high performance culture within the organisation. To ensure the process is credible it should at all times adhere to both the spirit and letter of prevailing legislation and regulation as well as accepted norms of good practice. The impact that the concepts such as Knowledge, Information, Empowerment, Performance Strengthening and Shared Values have on the attainment of aligned commitment was examined. Also discussed were the comparisons between the South African and Namibian operations of the financial organisation. This research study was approached from a human perspective and should contribute towards the attainment of a commitment continuum within the organisation, through the aforementioned concept, with specific focus on Shared Values. The study includes both literature and empirical research. The study covers a numbers of disciplines that, when seen together, provides better understanding as how these constructs interact with one another in the attainment of sustained commitment and the presence of a commitment continuum. This, in turn, will lead to improved financial performance on the part of the organisation. The study has practical value in the sense that the newly adapted questionnaire and equation framework should enable organisations to measure the degree to which the influential constructs contributing to aligned commitment, already exist. The results show that a commitment continuum can be established in the financial services sector through aligned organisational commitment, the introduction and development of a shared values system and the establishment and acceptance of a shared vision. Coupled with organisational commitment, this will furthermore lead to growth and sustainability and a high performance culture being attained within the organisation.
MBA, North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2014

Domingues, Mariana Mendes. "O crime de trato sucessivo." Master's thesis, 2018. http://hdl.handle.net/10400.14/27808.

Abstract:
The present master thesis deals with the figure of the “crime of successive behavior”, figure which as been created by portuguese case-law. This concept aims the unification of several typical conducts (which in abstract would fill as many legal types as the number of conduits), in a single crime. The “crime of successive behavior” is therefore very close to the concept of “continuous offences”. Nevertheless, the use of “continuous offences” is limited by the requirement to fulfill certain legal requirements. According to previously stated, the courts often rely on the “crime of successive behavior” as a way of avoiding the rigid assumptions of the legal device “continuous offences”, which can result in huge arbitrariness, breach of important law principles and decrease of the defendant guarantees. We have therefore sought in this study to explore the concept of “crime of successive behavior”, to understand how it has been used in our case-law and what consequences might have arisen as a result of its application. In the end we conclude that the use of this figure is inadmissible.
