Yoshifumi, Saitō. "Style and creativity : towards a theory of creative stylistics." Thesis, University of Nottingham, 1997. http://eprints.nottingham.ac.uk/12549/.

Full text
Abstract:
The purpose of this thesis is to present a new theory of creative stylistics as an antithesis to traditional description-oriented stylistics. For this purpose it undertakes: (1) a selective historical survey of stylistics with special attention to its academic formation in the context of the theoretical dissociation between linguistics and literary criticism (Chapter 1), (2) a theoretical survey of stylistics with special attention to the way it has been defined and subcategorized (Chapter 2), (3) a rearrangement of various stylistic theories according to the criterion of purpose, and a cognitively oriented demonstration of redefined linguistic, literary, and pedagogical stylistics (Chapter 3), (4) a theorization of creative stylistics as a prescriptively oriented discipline complementing the descriptivism of traditional stylistics, in terms of the cognitive processes of textual creation (Chapter 4), and (5) a demonstration of creative stylistics through an examination of my own literary writing, together with a discussion of further pedagogical and cross-cultural issues arising from this (Chapter 5). Through these chapters I make it clear. (a) that the theoretical proliferation, the variety of nomenclature, and the arbitrary subcategorization of stylistics has made this discipline seem more complicated than it really is; (b) that stylistics has so far only followed the course laid down by descriptive linguistics and literary criticism, and has not yet fully explored or exploited the dynamic interaction between language and literature, since it has hardly paid attention to the issue of the creativity of style and language; (c) that, in order to establish stylistics as a truly interdisciplinary field of study between linguistic and literary studies, we need to take up the classical idea of rhetoric with its prescriptive function as well as the new idea of 'creative language awareness' in order to open up the domain of stylistic study for the purpose of textual creation; (d) that, as the descriptive analyses of traditional stylistics should be retrievable, so the processes of creative stylistics should be replicable for any creatively-motivated writer, irrespective of the kind of text he or she is trying to create; (e) that, by being replicable, the theory of creative stylistics would be extraordinarily useful in pedagogical contexts in helping language learners both to improve their skills in writing and to sensitize themselves to language and literature; and (f) that creative stylistics is designed to explore and exploit the possibilities of breaking down the native/non-native opposition in English studies and of bridging native/non-native cultural gaps in aesthetic creation.

Adams, Zackary Michael. "Comedy Basque Style: A Recontextualization of Commedia all'Italiana." ScholarWorks @ UVM, 2019. https://scholarworks.uvm.edu/graddis/1021.

Full text
Abstract:
Commedia all'italiana, a genre of Italian film satires that emerged in the late 1950s and sustained through the late 1970s, is primarily understood through its close relationship to Italian culture. The evolution of the genre appears to be less tied to the revision of iconography and narrative codes of previous films than it is to the trajectory of Italian society during its years of prominence. The following thesis will attempt to find a definition of commedia all'italiana that is discrete from the genre's strong link to Italian culture by isolating the films' common narrative strategies. The aim in constructing this definition, which will be called the "commedia all'italiana narrative methodology," is to negotiate the possibility of formal elaboration upon the genre by a modern filmmaker, even outside of the strictly Italian context of the films in question. The viability of this endeavor will be put to the test in the final chapter, a plot outline for a feature film, entitled Commedia Vasca, that emulates the narrative approaches assembled in the commedia all'italiana narrative methodology. This thesis begins by presenting the common understanding of commedia all'italiana, with a particular focus on the genre's close connection to Italian society. The second chapter tracks the formation of the commedia all'italiana narrative methodology by isolating and analyzing distinct and adaptable narrative strategies at play among the films of commedia all'italiana. Then the thesis changes course to set up the creative experiment in narrative adaptation, Commedia Vasca, which will engage with Basque culture, rather than Italian. The plot outline for the film is preceded by a short summary of relevant Basque history and the ways the cultural specificities of the Basque Country influenced the process of utilizing and adapting the commedia all'italiana narrative methodology.

Solomon, Ryan. "In Search of Copia: Using Rhetoric to Teach Creative Writing." BYU ScholarsArchive, 2007. https://scholarsarchive.byu.edu/etd/1011.

Full text
Abstract:
James Berlin, in his book Rhetoric and Reality, points out that our disparate epistemologies lead to inevitable classroom practices, which mean that different epistemologies impact our pedagogical approach and enforce certain views about the role and function of writing in classrooms. This thesis highlights the impact of Romantic beliefs about writing on creative writing pedagogy, as well as exploring how those beliefs hamper the critical function of the workshop. Romantic beliefs have enforced the idea that talent and genius is most important in creative writing, and that writing is spontaneous, organic, original, and expressive. Because of this, many creative writing teachers have come to believe that a structured pedagogical approach hampers creative writing, but this creates problems in workshop where the need for collaborative criticism conflicts with Romantic beliefs. The result is that students, who are assumed to know how to offer effective criticism, struggle to negotiate expressive ideals as opposed to critical response. This thesis therefore explores the problems of Romantic beliefs in detail. This thesis proposes the classical rhetorical curriculum, supported by appropriate rhetorical theory, as a solution to the problems created by Romantic beliefs. This curriculum provides a detailed, structured approach to teaching writing, which is best highlighted by the way it combined stylistic analysis together with production; therefore, helping students use criticism as a way to develop their writing. In doing so, I look at a rhetorical approach to style as detailed by Richard Lanham and Winston Weathers who emphasize helping students with stylistic analysis by helping students understand the function of style. Also, because I recognize that creative writers are often resistant to any discussion of the links between creative writing and rhetoric, this thesis emphasizes the critical links between creative writing and rhetoric, thereby showing that the view of rhetoric held by creative writers is a substantially reduced view of a more dynamic discipline. The truth is the two disciplines share a fundamental critical purpose aimed at assisting student in the production of new texts, and therefore, because the two disciplines have a great deal in common, there is a viable opportunity to build on their theoretical links in order to enhance pedagogy in both disciplines. Therefore, this thesis looks at some specific ways that the classical rhetorical curriculum can be applied within the constraints of the contemporary creative writing classroom.

Gratias, Melissa B. "Leader Effectiveness among Patterns of Personality Types and Creativity Styles." Diss., Virginia Tech, 2000. http://hdl.handle.net/10919/28555.

Full text
Abstract:
In the current study, a person-centered approach was taken to the examination of the relation between leader effectiveness and personality preferences. Type Theory and Adaption-Innovation Theory precepts were examined in tandem using cluster analytic techniques in order to discover whether past variable-centered findings relating these two theories would generalize to a person-centered examination. Eight patterns were hypothesized to emerge from the cluster analysis based on past correlational research, and three of these patterns were present in the seven-cluster solution. Leader effectiveness was measured in terms of multisource ratings on Benchmarks&#8482;. Hypotheses were proposed based on past variable-centered research examining the relations between Jungian personality types and self, superior, peer, and subordinate ratings of leader effectiveness. Some support was found for the variable-centered predictions, but the pattern-focused approach provided insight into the dynamics of the five personality preferences examined as well as suggested that indicators other than what would be predicted based on variable-centered studies may contribute to perceptions of leader effectiveness. Overall, the results of this study show that, taken together, variable and person-centered approaches to research may help strengthen the sometimes fragile relationship between personality and leader effectiveness.<br>Ph. Miller, Angela L. "Creativity and cognitive style : the relationship between field-dependence-independence, expected evaluation, and creative performance." Virtual Press, 2006. http://liblink.bsu.edu/uhtbin/catkey/1347732.

Full text
Abstract:
This study explored the effects of cognitive style and expected evaluation on creativity. Past research has shown that an expectation of evaluation can have a negative impact on creativity, and those individuals classified as field-independent rather than field-dependent are more likely to have higher creativity scores. An interaction between expected evaluation and cognitive style was hypothesized. Participants created a collage to measure creativity, either with or without an expectation of evaluation, and then cognitive style was measured. The hypothesis was partially supported. The more field-independent an individual, the higher the creativity score. Those in the evaluation condition scored higher in creativity than those in the non-evaluation condition, but this effect disappeared when controlling for time and previous art experience. The effect of expected evaluation is discussed in terms of the experimental situation and the conceptualization of motivation. Further investigations of cognitive style and motivational conditions are suggested.<br>Department of Educational Psychology

Abstract:
<p>The topic of this research is to explore to what extent innovation and new product development (NPD) are managed with formal and informal control mechanisms respectively and in combination in five international food industry companies. The topic deals with finding an understanding of controlling innovation processes which require freedom to some extent but at the same time are to be managed in order to keep track of the resources. Cases’ selection was designed to bring variation and catch the complexity of the phenomenon by studying one prime case and validating the results with four minor case companies’ results. The findings of the study indicate that first of all formal and informal control mechanisms coexist and interact and secondly that a more informal and personalized take is beneficial in R&D settings.</p>

Polynone, Devon, and Devon Polynone. "An American Belly Dancer." Thesis, University of Oregon, 2012. http://hdl.handle.net/1794/12387.

Full text
Abstract:
The purpose of this research was to investigate the creative process of six professional American Belly Dancers: Shannon Conklin, Elena Villa, Lila McDaniel, TC Skinner, Manny Garcia, and Cera Byer. I took a class with each dancer, witnessed each dancer creating movement, and witnessed each dancer perform. After each experience I held discussions with each dancer. I learned that, for some of the dancers, music is everything, but for others, Belly Dance can be performed to any sound. For some of the dancers, Belly Dance is highly codified, and for others it is experimental. For some of the dancers, Belly Dance is a solo endeavor, but for others, dancing with a troupe is essential. Following these findings, I created six movement explorations - one based on each professional Belly Dancer in my study. Supplemental video footage of these explorations can be viewed as a companion to this written document.

Abstract:
This PhD study examines some of what happens in an individual’s mind regarding creativity during problem solving within an organisational context. It presents innovations related to creative motivation, cognitive style and framing effects that can be applied by managers to enhance individual employee creativity within the organisation and thereby assist organisations to become more innovative. The project delivers an understanding of how to leverage natural changes in creative motivation levels during problem solving. This pattern of response is called Creative Resolve Response (CRR). The project also presents evidence of how framing effects can be used to influence decisions involving creative options in order to enhance the potential for managers get employees to select creative options more often for implementation. The study’s objectives are to understand: • How creative motivation changes during problem solving • How cognitive style moderates these creative motivation changes • How framing effects apply to decisions involving creative options to solve problems • How cognitive style moderate these framing effects The thesis presents the findings from three controlled experiments based around self reports during contrived problem solving and decision making situations. The first experiment suggests that creative motivation varies in a predictable and systematic way during problem solving as a function of the problem solver’s perception of progress. The second experiment suggests that there are specific framing effects related to decisions involving creativity. It seems that simply describing an alternative as innovative may activate perceptual biases that overcome risk based framing effects. The third experiment suggests that cognitive style moderates decisions involving creativity in complex ways. It seems that in some contexts, decision makers will prefer a creative option, regardless of their cognitive style, if this option is both outside the bounds of what is officially allowed and yet ultimately safe. The thesis delivers innovation on three levels: theoretical, methodological and empirical. The highlights of these findings are outlined below: 1. Theoretical innovation with the conceptualisation of Creative Resolve Response based on an extension of Amabile’s research regarding creative motivation. 2. Theoretical innovation linking creative motivation and Kirton’s research on cognitive style. 3. Theoretical innovation linking both risk based and attribute framing effects to cognitive style. 4. Methodological innovation for defining and testing preferences for creative solution implementation in the form of operationalised creativity decision alternatives. 5. Methodological innovation to identify extreme decision options by applying Shafir’s findings regarding attribute framing effects in reverse to create a test. 6. Empirical innovation with statistically significant research findings which indicate creative motivation varies in a systematic way. 7. Empirical innovation with statistically significant research findings which identify innovation descriptor framing effects 8. Empirical innovation with statistically significant research findings which expand understanding of Kirton’s cognitive style descriptors including the importance of safe rule breaking. 9. Empirical innovation with statistically significant research findings which validate how framing effects do apply to decisions involving operationalised creativity. Drawing on previous research related to creative motivation, cognitive style, framing effects and supervisor interactions with employees, this study delivers insights which can assist managers to increase the production and implementation of creativity in organisations. Hopefully this will result in organisations which are more innovative. Such organisations have the potential to provide ongoing economic and social benefits.

Knopf, Michael David. "Style and Genre Synthesis in Music Composition: Revealing and Examining the Craft and Creative Processes in Composing Poly-Genre Music." Thesis, Griffith University, 2011. http://hdl.handle.net/10072/366075.

Abstract:
Enhancing new musical works by referencing style and genre is a well-established practice in music making around the world. Audiences and artists of the past century were particularly exposed to music of many styles and genres through the growth of information and knowledge transfer as a result of travel, various media and the Internet. This musical and cultural interaction was, as Nettl (1986, p. 371) characterized it, a “prevailing force in musical innovation.” Aubert (2000, p. 4) states that the “generalization all over the planet of the cultural hybridization process observed today is a phenomenon without precedent.” Alongside this is the “need to investigate musical hybrids” that Leavy sees (2009, p. 105) as having “increased exponentially with globalization and the multidirectional cultural exchange it has fostered.” My work as a performer and composer is deeply influenced by music hybrids, with genre and style synthesis integral to my creative practice. In my search of the literature to place my work in style and genre synthesis, I was unable to find a systematic description of content, process or operational philosophy. This study aims to examine and reveal the technical and creative concepts and processes I use to generate new cross-genre compositions. The research is carried out through the composition of new works as examples of genre synthesis, and through reflections on, and analyses of, the particular processes of synthesis occurring in the new works. The research furnishes evidence of the use of new and conventional concepts, strategies and terminology, and offers a model for the creative practice of composing with styles and genres.<br>Thesis (Professional Doctorate)<br>Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA)<br>Queensland Conservatorium<br>Arts, Education and Law<br>Full Text

Abstract:
This practice-led thesis explores how an examination of ‘awryness’—conceptualised as an emotional response to environmental stimuli which is characterised by feelings of disorientation and uncertainty—might generate new ways of thinking about the writing, reading, and interpretation of contemporary Australian attachment trauma fiction. In fiction, awryness occurs when the reader encounters something that is unexpected or difficult to categorise. Writing the novel, On Either Side, alongside textual analysis of three novels, reveals just some of the ways that awryness might be induced or evoked in order to represent the effects of attachment trauma on a character.

These different kinds of behavior are gaining strengths and influencing designers to rethink their creations, in favor of esthetics proposed by their users, fact that deserves deeper studies about its creation procedures. For this matter, the comprehension of the individual creational process inside culture occurs from the following questioning: How can the creative process of individuals be identified in the composition of their outfit from the perusal of their usage? What are the differences between the spectacle created by internet users and what actually is seen in the streets? The elucidation of this questioning aims to identify the composition procedures of an outfit as a process of creation in culture and, from this identification, discuss how the change in the communicative flow of who produces and who receives visual messages occurs. As specific objectives, this paper searches for the detection of creative resources which people use in the composition of their outfit and the development of a visual reading system that may assist this observation, elaborated from the concept of Networking Creation. The theoretical contribution which leads this study begins in the contextualization of fashion and style as social processes that allow the self-narratives (BARNARD, 2006; CRANE 2008; MIRANDA, 2008; ROCHE, 2007, SVENDSEN, 2010, MESQUITA, 2008), by cultural theoreticians who approach the changes in the roles of individuals from users to creators of visual messages through the use of products (CERTEAU, 1994 e LURIE, 1997), their transformation in intercultural beings (CANCLINI, 2003) inserted into the culture, but distinguished from it (COLAPIETRO, 1989) and that become creators (MORACE, 2009), finalizing with theories of Net Creation (SALLES, 2008) and Post-Production (BOURRIAUD, 2009) which will serve as base for the comprehension of the outfit composition as a creative process. Starting with images of this users-creators day by day in the streets and comparing them to images posted in the web by the users themselves, from 2010 to 2012, procedures of outfit construction that allow the intersection of creative resources used by distinguishes individuals and that, up a new and innovative creative process, reveal post-production strategies of the outfit and the image<br>A pesquisa aborda a montagem do traje como um processo criativo individual, advindo de um ambiente cultural que permite o consumidor se tranformar em autor ao recombinar produtos por meio de seu uso.

Abstract:
Leur particularité réside dans la vision personnelle et l’univers de chaque auteur<br>The subject of originality in the contemporary novel: identification of stylistics caracteristics in the three works of Annie Ernaux, Jean Echenoz and Patrick Modiano. This work is based upon three approaches whose the first consist in identifying the relation of influence and intertextuality which link the texts of ours authors with the texts of their predecessors. The novel takes its roots in the literary heritage, and then it transforms itself progressively through the writing act. We have seen that Annie Ernaux, Jean Echenoz and Patrick Modiano are atypical authors who have been able to extract from the literary heritage its very substance in order to produce a masterpiece. In addition, we have conducted an analytical study of the writing methods used by each one of these authors

"A Way to Write: My Influences, Interests, Style, and Process." Master's thesis, 2016. http://hdl.handle.net/2286/R.I.38538.

Full text
Abstract:
abstract: This essay is an exploration of Michael Holladay's interests in style and influence related to his writing and overall writing process. I've chosen a selection of books that both reflect my interests as a writer, books that I've loved and have informed me in the past which continue to inform and inspire on each re-read (Battleborn by Claire Vaye Watkins, A Visit from the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan, for example) and also books I hadn't read and needed to in order to challenge myself with writing I haven't been exposed to yet so I can continue to grow (I hadn't, for instance, read Jesus' Son by Denis Johnson or Reasons to Live by Amy Hempel before preparation for this essay.) The fiction I've chosen to discuss strikes a balance between favorites that have formed me up to this point and new work to "fill in the gaps" of books I needed to read. Additionally, I've chosen a selection of books on craft to provide a lens for thinking about writing. Finally, I've also included work in other genres that inform my fiction (Ryan van Meter's creative nonfiction essays, If You Knew Then What I Know Now and Andrew Haigh's film, Weekend.) I've intentionally chosen work that is diverse in both form and content. I have more linear fiction represented (William Trevor, for example) matched with work that's fragmentary and language focused (Christine Schutt's Nightwork among others) since I'm interested in how linear form and fragmentation can intersect, and I've been experimenting with both during my time in the program. And in terms of content, the majority of the work speaks to my interest in how region, specifically the South, impresses itself on sexuality and gender, specifically queer or decentered sexuality and gender. So I have books with a heavy focus on region (Daddy's by Lindsay Hunter and Girl Trouble by Holly Goddard Jones) and work that explores the complexities of sexuality and identity (Michael Cunningham, Edmund White, Alexander Chee, and I'll mention Haigh's film Weekend again because it's always worth mentioning again.) These works will help synthesize and bring together my interests in style, language, structure, and form, and in content.<br>Dissertation/Thesis<br>Masters Thesis Creative Writing 2016

Abstract:
碩士<br>國立中興大學<br>科技管理研究所<br>103<br>Happiness, a psychological status of well-being, has been studied as an important career outcome for the entrepreneurs. Traditional economic theories generally assume that entrepreneurial satisfaction is largely affected by their income from the entrepreneurial business, while recently research suggests that the perceived career happiness of self-employed individuals is more important than financial success. More and more researchers recognize that entrepreneurial happiness is a determinant of entrepreneurs’ persistence and endurance in running the new venture, entrepreneurial happiness has become an important topic in the recent entrepreneurship literature. In this research, we find creativity is a determinant of entrepreneurial happiness. Research has suggested that creative individuals are happier and utility or usefulness of firm’s creative outcome positively related to entrepreneurial happiness. Thus the measure of creativity has multi-item subscales corresponding to two dimensions: individual creativity and firm creativity. Furthermore, in order to more understanding how does creativity influence entrepreneurial happiness, we explore two antecedent variables: cognitive style and Guanxi. Differences have been found between entrepreneurs with different cognitive styles; creative entrepreneurs with specific cognitive style were significantly more innovative. As deeply embedded in Chinese culture, guanxi networks have been identified as an important strategic mechanism. Entrepreneurs’ guanxi benefit individual and organizational innovativeness through providing flexibility, institutional advantages necessary resources, in terms of financial resources, information, as well as problem-solving. From the perspective of psychological cognitive style and social capital, this study developed and tested a theoretical model, which explores factors influencing entrepreneurial happiness. This study focuses on creative entrepreneurs, who we defined as the founders and executives of a creative business. Researchers have pointed out that most creative entrepreneurs possess the attributes distinct from general entrepreneurs, and inherit the creative personality from their former career as a creative practitioner (e.g. designer, artist, craftsman, etc.). Among the various attributes, embracing novelty and originality is the most salient characteristics of creative entrepreneurs. The model was tested by using a sample of 270 entrepreneurs in Taiwan who have established and are still in charge of new venture in the creative industries. Results showed that entrepreneurs’ creating cognitive style is positively related to individual creativity and firm creativity; conversely, entrepreneurs’ planning cognitive style were shown to have a negatively effect on entrepreneurs’ individual creativity and firm creativity. Moreover, family ties and business ties were found to positively affect individual creativity and firm creativity. Specially, community ties have no significant impact to either individual creativity or firm creativity. Government ties have a positive impact on individual creativity. Finally, our findings suggested that both entrepreneurs’ individual creativity and firm creativity are positively related to entrepreneurial happiness. This paper mainly contributes to the literature in shedding the light on entrepreneurial happiness. Although researchers have increasingly acknowledged the importance of entrepreneurial happiness, little work has been done to empirically examine what makes entrepreneurs feel happiness and well-being in their career. In addition is the examination the mediating effects of entrepreneurs’ individual creativity and firm creativity. Entrepreneurs’ cognitive style and social network may not have a direct effect on their happiness, while they are likely to indirectly affect entrepreneurial happiness through influencing creativity.

The pursuit of beauty is innate human instinct; however, the value and viewpoints of beauty vary with historical changes. Creations of modern make-up, in addition to skills, also stresses on creative viewpoints, the discussion of theories and conveyance of ideas. Many coordinate or incoordinate elements combined during this process in the realm of cosmetics design helping to develop various distinctive make-ups and extending the aesthetic point of view of the time. This study aims to apply the Montage images to creative cosmetics design and to display the photo images of creative make-ups through multimedia techniques. Hence, by the method mentioned above, this study is centering on infusing new elements to search for innovation and changes and initiating artistic values. This study is carried out based on four phases. Phase one adopts documentary analysis to gain an understanding of Montage as a source of inspiration. Phase two extract elments from figures, characteristics, colors, lines or veins of natural animals, plants, and circumstances or well or converts them for applicatimin design. Phase three combines the converted elements with natural landscape and uses multimedia skills and techniques for creation, including three series: Animals- butterflies, leopards, fishes; Plants-morning glories, vines, dandelions; Circumstances-sky, the earth, water, total nine groups of makeup creation with Montage imageries. Abstract:
碩士<br>國立臺灣師範大學<br>美術學系在職進修碩士班<br>98<br>In Six Dynasties, He Xie proposed the concept of “the writing like a bone” to explain the relationship of the objects’ lines. And lines experience the trainings of time and develop several shapes. For example, in character painting, the lines of the skins are thinner, but there are thickness and thinness in clothing lines. Acute angles in stones, trees, and mountains in landscape painting are very different from lines of thinness, softness, and round in water waves. Lines are one of the elements in painting and design, but they are enough to show the representation of the emotion and the high quality. This research focuses on the representations of the lines, the theory of Minimalism and Minimalism in Modern art and design fields and the extensive discussions of the literature information analyses and case analyses. The modern designs have great influence on the form, the concepts, and the feelings. The points at issue in the definitions of Minimalism are involved in the illustrations and picture books which are brief and show lines, the one-by-one discussion of the picture representation and the application of the Minimal style. The creative research is based on the single line as the picture book form. The pictures make use of the Minimal style to show. By means of the well-known fables highlighting the meaning of the shape qualities, we cut the picture language to only the relationship between lines and shapes. We use the thickness and the thinness of the single lines, and the line modeling to simplify the general appearance of the pictures. We get rid of every unnecessary thing that will disturb the subjects. We revise a living way or a style. We establish a simple living philosophy on the familiar basis. The result shows that the brief concepts go beyond regions and cultures. Though it is not involved in the individual feelings in the thinking, it is very individual. The purpose of the human thinking is not in nothingness but in the essence. For the Minimalism in the plane surface categories, we take good advantage of the different lines to make a spatial sense and the picture tension. We apply the simple forms to subvert the traditional value judgment. Finally, we induce the three angles of the simplicity, the omission, and the reflection from Minimal thinking. We apply the basic framework of the Minimal style to the creations of the illustrations and picture books. We use the fables of “The Wind and the Sun,” Three Pigs,” and “The merchant the donkey and the salt” as the creative tests and propose the creative study combining lines and Minimalism to make the related industrial circle and the academic circle to refer to.

Abstract:
碩士<br>國立臺灣師範大學<br>設計研究所在職進修碩士班<br>97<br>Human beings are seeking simplified and original lifestyles in contrast to the increasingly complicated modern society. Nowadays, minimalism has been widely applied for all kinds of design, encompassing space, products, 2-D, advertisings or even abstract elements such as ideas and a life of philosophy. Minimalism fulfills the needs of the society with the most simplified visual effects through the logic of elimination. Minimalism presents purification as well as reflects people's hunger to return to purity. This research aims to conduct design with data statistics, case study and practical works. The results are as follow : 1. Minimalism, through discussions on its development and ideas, is defined as the most limited design of color simplification, spacing, structural order and mood elimination. However, the completely logical designs without involving the designer's personal emotions has changed. 2. Minimalism has remained a clean, simplified and flawless element not only through modification of the modern design, but also created other elements such as curves, trajectory, asymmetry, or even low-profile Zen. 3. We discover the theory and development of Minimalism through the discussions of it. We understand and conclude the elements of Minimalism, and then we conduct research on the work that interprets it. We conclude the design structure and presentation, which refers to the processes: The re-presentation of originality. The elimination of complication. The spacing. With the three processes to reach the presentation of “purification”, we can not only rediscover the relationship between creatures and the environment but also reconstruct a life of philosophy. This idea can be put into practice in modern design.

Abstract:
碩士<br>國立臺北科技大學<br>機電整合研究所<br>101<br>Garment industry usually uses tag gun to shoot tag-belt for hanging a tag of information. Tag gun is actuated by the pressing force from index finger so that the tag belt could be nailed on or buckled to the item. In general, tag guns can be classified into two types: one is nailed-style tag-guns which would drive the tag-belt penetrate through the knitted fabric, and the other one is buckle-style tag guns which would drive the tag-belt to pass through a hole or wrap around a belt of the item without destroying the item’s fabric. Generally speaking, the mechanism of a nailed-style style tag-gun could be roughly divided into two sections: input and feeding, and that of a buckle-style tag roughly divided into three sections: input, feeding and driving. This research focuses on the mechanism design of a novel buckle-style tag-gun, including the sections of input, feeding and driving. The required mechanism for each section is separately designed and then integrated together. It is aimed to simply the required mechanism without changing its overall motion of the mechanism. Applying the idea of simplicity of the input mechanism for nailed-style tag-guns, this study presents a novel input mechanism design for buckle-style tag gun via Yan creative mechanism design method. The mechanisms for feeding and driving are also presented. Then, the solid model of this novel buckle-style tag-gun is constructed in Solidworks software and its parts as well. The interference check, dynamic simulation and stress-strain analysis have been performed via the simulation function of Solidworks software. The preliminarily results have been confirmed the feasibility of this novel design for a strap buckle-style tag-gun.

碩士<br>華梵大學<br>工業設計學系碩士班<br>103<br>Art Nouveau was the popular Art Deco movement in European and American between around nineteenth century and early twentieth century. The artists must not imitate the earlier style but encompass the contemporary style of current century and seek to show the "novel" and the "youthful" ideas and advocating nature elements. Art Nouveau designs can be found easily in many places such as graphic design, product design, interior design, and even in architecture. In this study, I try to extract the elements of female, flowers, curve and symbol from aesthetic creation of "new art" and use these elements into paper art creations. Full text
Abstract:
碩士<br>國立臺東大學<br>兒童文學研究所<br>97<br>The Last Resort is a picture book painted by Italian creator Roberto Innocetti and then written by American poet John Patrick Lewis, who was invited by the publisher. It depicts the process of which a painter tries to find his “imagination” back. The main theme of this story obtains materials from Innocetti’s personal experiences and arranges the characters of classical works, the creators, the poets and the actors meeting by fate in “The Last Resort” near a beach, an imagery world the painter constructs, and experiencing an unknown process of exploring together. Simultaneously, the story presents an intensely interesting tone and pregnant with meanings with Lewis’s literary talent and witty construction. This study focuses on analyzing how the creators of The Last Resort design and elaborate the process of finding the “imagination.” When it comes to the creative style, the illustrator and the writer excellently fuse the techniques of intertexuality and superrealism into this picture book. That is, with using intertexuality in this work, the creators put an emphasis on the use of the creating techniques of hyper-intertexuality and superrealism which urges the readers actively to develop more imagination to fill the gaps hidden in the text. In so doing, it shows the diverse possible interpretations of the text. On the one hand, making use of intertexuality as the main creative style in this work is to recall reader’s memories and interpret them in a new way which can provoke the pleasure of reading; on the other hand, for artists themselves, the basic principle to find the imagination is returning to the starting point to re-read the classics from different disciplines, and get new edifications and inspirations for creating their new works.
