It's been shown that despite some improvements in the Russian banking sector, it's indicators have not achieved the pre-crisis level yet and can't be compared with similar indicators in other countries. Moreover, Russian banks' credit resources are insufficient if the growing tendency of exceeding outstanding credits' volume over corresponding banks' resources is taken into account. In the authors' opinion it can lead to incapability of the Russian banking system to satisfy the relevant credit demand of the non-financial corporate sector and cause a medium-term systemic banking crisis.

This study investigated the impact of banking management on credit risk using a sample of Indian commercial banks. The study employed dynamic panel estimations to evaluate the link between banking management variables and credit risk. The empirical results show that an increase in loan portion over total assets does not necessarily increase problem loans. The findings suggest that high capital requirements and large bank size do not reduce default risk, whereas high profitability and strong income diversification policies lower the likelihood of default risk. This is followed by designing an optimal credit portfolio of the banking system and comparing it with actual credit portfolios with the help of similarity metrics. More specifically, a negative relationship between bank efficiency and fintech credit implies that fintech credit is more developed in countries with less efficient banking systems. AbstractThe banking supervision in France was formalized with the Banking Acts of 1941 and of 1945. In 1941, the Banking Control Commission as the supervisory agency was created, and rigid financial regulation such as a minimum capital requirement and a separation of banking types was introduced. In connection to the 1941 Act, the four largest commercial banks in France were also nationalized. However, with the German occupation and the wartime situation, the formalization of banking supervision was only completed with the Banking Act of 1945. Abstract:
We investigate the welfare-increasing role of credit and banking at zero interest rates in a microfounded general equilibrium monetary model. Agents differ in their opportunity costs of holding money due to heterogeneous idiosyncratic time-preference shocks. Without banks, the constrained-efficient allocation is never attainable, since impatient agents always face a positive implicit rate in equilibrium. With banks, patient agents pin down the borrowing rate and in turn enable impatient agents to borrow at no cost when the inflation rate approaches the highest discount factor. Banks can theref

This evaluation examines IDB's management of credit risk of Non-Sovereign Guaranteed Operations. Although the IDB is not subject to the Principles for the Management of Credit Risk issued by the Basel Committee for Banking Supervision, these principles have been used as guidelines for this assessment. It can be concluded that the IDB largely complies with Basel's credit risk management principles. To further develop what is already a solid foundation for its credit risk management system, it is recommended that the IDB adopts a comprehensive Credit Risk Framework that clearly defines its risk

Abstract:
This study discusses staple reforms in banking systems in Latin America and the Caribbean to improve their effectiveness. The paper identifies the main problems countries have been experiencing with banking systems, triggered by large credit losses. The direct and indirect costs of banking sector crises have been astonishingly high. The author holds that while the symptoms and costs of banking sector problems are widely recognized, the magnitude of the remedial task is often significantly underestimated. The author then makes a series of observations to keep in mind: First, the acute and costl

Regional banking systems in Asia and the Pacific are not only increasingly integrated but also tend to be concentrated to a few counterparties only, exposing the region to financial risk and policy spillovers. This study assesses the determinants and impacts of the region’s cross-border banking concentration. It constructs and analyzes cross-border bank concentration measures for 47 economies in Asia and the Pacific from 2000 to 2019. Results suggest that higher capital account, trade openness, and per capita income are significantly associated with lower cross-border bank concentration. Moreo

Financial inclusion is strikingly low in emerging economies. In only a few years, financial technologies (fintech) have led to a dramatic expansion in the number of non-traditional credit intermediaries, but the macroeconomic and credit-market implications of this rapid growth of fintech are not known. We build a model with a traditional banking system and endogenous fintech intermediary creation and find that greater fintech entry delivers positive long-term effects on aggregate output and consumption. However, greater entry bolsters aggregate firm financial inclusion only if it stems from lo

The title of this article is the title of a speech delivered in the wake of the Global Financial Crisis of 2008 by former European Central Bank President Jean-Claude Trichet. Although his call was made 14 years ago, it seems as relevant today as it was then. To see why, we need to look at the nature of markets and banking. From a realistic point of view, markets are about matching, while banking is about mismatching. The inherent incompatibility between the two explains, to a large extent, why market economies are repeatedly plagued with financial crises and credit crunches. Markets are places

Events such as the failure and rescue of Credit Suisse and the fallout of Silicon Valley Bank re-surfaces the old saying that prudential regulators should always favor banking concentration to improve financial stability, putting monetary authorities in opposition to competition authorities. In this paper, we want to switch gears and propose a framework to analyze monetary authorities' role in fostering competition. Then, we go through the case study of Brazil's financial system regulators and compare them with Brazil's competition authority's role and the importance of inter-agency cooperatio
