El objetivo de este manuscrito es compartir el surgimiento y la aparición de credos religiosos no católi-cos en territorio latinoamericano desde el año 2000 hasta el 2015. Ante la inexistencia de estudios sobre la temática, se elabora un esbozo general de un proyecto para desarrollarlo a futuro. En la pregunta prin-cipal de investigación se define el proceso de establecimiento en países con sistemas políticos de dere-cha, de izquierda o con sistemas propios de la democracia social. Un aspecto importante se refiere a que la, cada vez mayor, presencia de nuevos credos ha influido en la re-constitución de las nociones de cultura y religión.

Der Heilsschlüssel und die Seelenleuchte von Scheich Ibn ʿAṭāʾ Allāh al-Iskandarī (gest. 1309) ist nach eigener Angabe die erste systematische Abhandlung zum Gottesgedenken. Obgleich der Autor dieses so definiert, dass praktisch jede religiöse Handlung miteingeschlossen ist, steht im Fokus von Scheich Ibn ʿAṭāʾ Allāhs Untersuchung das sufische Ritual einer mantraisierenden Wiederholung des islamischen Credos Kein Gott außer Gott. Ist der erste Teil des Werks konventionell wissenschaftlich strukturiert, so entwickelt der zweite Teil - ausgehend von der grammatischen Negation des Credos - eine sufische Negativitätsästhetik. Der Autor zeigt, wie sich die Formel Kein Gott außer Gott kontinuierlich reduzieren lässt, bis das Gottesgedenken nur noch ein Atem ist, sich der Vernunft entzieht und als religiöse Erfahrung alle theologischen Diskurse übersteigt. Ihre Transzendenz setzt Scheich Ibn ʿAṭāʾ Allāh literarisch um, indem er sich schließlich der auktorialen Stimme enthält.

Abstract:
The book Die vreemde God en sy mense (The enigmatic God and his people) — published in 1998 — marks the beginning of a new debate about God amongst Afrikaans-speaking people of the reformed tradition. The fall of the National Party government and the end of the Apartheid policy in 1994 forced theologians to reflect on the authority of the Bible; the issue of creation, the Big Bang and evolution; the relationship between Christianity and other religions; the historical Jesus research and the possibility of a new reformation. Afrikaans-speaking people suddenly became part of the global village and could not ignore these issues anymore. Four tendencies in the debates are identified: (1) clinging to the credos of the reformed tradition and adhering to the master narrative of Western Christianity; (2) looking at the credos as cultural and time-conditioned ones but trying to integrate the theories of the Big Bang and evolution with the master narrative of Christianity, (3) breaking away from the master narrative of Western Christianity and creating a new tradition; (4) abandoning the Christian tradition altogether and exploring another religious tradition, especially Buddhism.

ABSTRACTBackground:Cerebral white matter hyperintensities (WMH) are prevalent incident findings on brain MRI scans among elderly people and have been consistently implicated in cognitive dysfunction. However, differential roles of WMH by region in cognitive function are still unclear. The aim of this study was to ascertain the differential role of regional WMH in predicting progression from mild cognitive impairment (MCI) to different subtypes of dementia.Methods:Participants were recruited from the Clinical Research Center for Dementia of South Korea (CREDOS) study. A total of 622 participants with MCI diagnoses at baseline and follow-up evaluations were included for the analysis. Initial MRI scans were rated for WMH on a visual rating scale developed for the CREDOS. Differential effects of regional WMH in predicting incident dementia were evaluated using the Cox proportional hazards model.Results:Of the 622 participants with MCI at baseline, 139 patients (22.3%) converted to all-cause dementia over a median of 14.3 (range 6.0–36.5) months. Severe periventricular WMH (PWMH) predicted incident all-cause dementia (Hazard ratio (HR) 2.22; 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.43–3.43) and Alzheimer's disease (AD) (HR 1.86; 95% CI 1.12–3.07). Subcortical vascular dementia (SVD) was predicted by both PWMH (HR 16.14; 95% CI 1.97–132.06) and DWMH (HR 8.77; 95% CI 1.77–43.49) in more severe form (≥ 10 mm).Conclusions:WMH differentially predict dementia by region and severity. Our findings suggest that PWMH may play an independent role in the pathogenesis of dementia, especially in AD.

Abstract:
The use of rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT) in sport psychology has received little attention in research to date, but is steadily growing. Therefore, to further add to the building body of research, this study examines the efficacy of REBT (comprising five counseling sessions, and four homework assignments) in decreasing self-reported irrational beliefs, and increasing self-reported resilient qualities in five elite squash players from Malaysia. The study uses a single-case multiple-baseline across-participants design. Visual and graphical analyses revealed that REBT reduced self-reported irrational beliefs significantly in all athletes, and raised self-reported resilient qualities significantly in some athletes. Athlete’s feedback, reflections on the usage of REBT, Athlete Rational Resilience Credos, and the practice of sport psychology across cultures are discussed, along with guidance for the future use of REBT in relevant settings.

In the controversy about the introduction of new biotechnological and medical technologies, their judicial regulation and political control, not only so-called moral values are discussed but ultimately also religious credos. By the example of natality it will be shown what theology can contribute to the clarification of basic categories of anthropology, which are crucial for medical ethics. The term “natality” (“Geburtlichkeit”) derives from the philosopher Hannah Arendt. In terms of the human finiteness, attention is usually turned to the mortality of the human being. Yet what does it mean for human existence that we are born? Resumo O artigo discute a religiosidade cristã entre árabes e descendentes em São Paulo, um contingente quase exclusivamente composto em sua origem por sírios e libaneses que integraram as levas migratórias chegadas ao país a partir do final do século XIX. Após contextualizar suas identidades religiosas, o artigo descreve, com base em pesquisas realizadas pelo próprio autor e dados colhidos em publicações diversas, a situação dos diferentes credos cristãos considerando sua constituição histórica, sua construção institucional e os dilemas que caracterizam a manutenção dos adeptos e suas tradições de origem. Elenca ainda os fatores que debilitaram o vigor da identidade religiosa entre descendentes e os desafios enfrentados para angariar fiéis e afirmar uma identidade específica em meio ao catolicismo romano dominante.

This paper aims at pointing out the normative expectations constraining political editorials. We adopt an internal perspective focusing on the process of “making” an editorial: how and why is argumentation constructed and what is at stake with it from the journalistic point of view. The focus is on the making of an editorial on David’s Cameron speech about his plans for a referendum on British membership of the European Union. Taking into account the editorial conferences where the topic is discussed as well as the writing process and the verbal protocol leading to proper comments by the journalist himself on the making of the text, we analyze in detail the emergent normative expectations and the individual credos of argumentation in the editorial.

O artigo sustenta que os santos podem servir de eixo a uma abordagem mais etnográfica e radical da antropologia da religião. De praxe, essa subdisciplina está excessivamente pautada pelas concepções de apenas um tipo de nativos: teólogos, sacerdotes, especialistas. Doutrinas estabelecidas servem como referência, e a religião comum vira assim uma religião popular, subalterna ou desviante. Os santos, personagens locais que no entanto atravessam fronteiras entre credos e são por sua vez subalternos nas elaborações teológicas, podem ser vistos como atores essenciais dentro de uma rede de relações (do tipo das propostas pela actor-network theory), a unir mitos, devotos, lugares, objetos ou personagens sagrados, rituais, doutrinas e, como um limite externo, Deus. Essa rede, sugiro, deve se reivindicar como objeto prioritário dos estudos sobre religião.

Listen to director Bill Condon as he slips one of these showbiz credos into a recent interview: “You know, they say for a great performance you need a great telephone scene.” To the uninitiated, this may sound strange—surely an outlying tenet of the faith!—but Hollywood's belief in the “telephone scene” is curiously devout. And unlike other Tinseltown lore, with its murky past and fractured provenance, this tale of the telephone is easy to track to a single event nearly eighty years ago.

En este artículo se presentan la concepción y aplicación de sus principales enfoques en los países de la Unión Europea, al alero de instituciones e iglesias cristianas y de otras confesiones, y muchas veces en conjunto con la autoridad política de cada región. Se sintetiza el variado proceso de profundos cambios de dicha educación según países y credos religiosos, bajo el influjo democrático laico, y la competición entre los Estados frente a las Iglesias y otras religiones. Se exponen las estrategias jurídicas y pedagógicas de las Iglesias cristianas ante los cambios culturales más amplios, su evolución y posibles desarrollos; y se concluye con una propuesta fundada y prudente frente a la compleja situación.

En el cincuentenario de la publicación de la Pacem in terris de Juan XXIII, contemporánea de los inicios del Concilio Vaticano II, el texto pone el énfasis en la interrelación de la paz con la libertad religiosa, como fruto de la apertura a que dio lugar la encíclica, determinante para la superación de la actitud de sola tolerancia que en asuntos de religión había promovido en el último siglo la misma Iglesia católica romana. De la asamblea conciliar se subrayan los aportes de dos de sus documentos fundamentales, el Decreto sobre la libertad religiosa y la Declaración sobre las religiones no cristianas, deudores en buena parte del documento pontificio. Y desde esa perspectiva se sugieren algunas líneas para la reflexión actual sobre la libertad religiosa en clave de diálogo entre los diversos credos religiosos.

O artigo resgata credos da tradição budista japonesa sobre Jizo Bosatsu, o protetor das crianças, a fim de interpretar, inicialmente, o lugar da infância na religião e na cultura japonesa. Para isso, o texto apresenta a origem e o conceito de Jizo Bosatsu, sua história e o nascimento da Terra Pura do Buda Amida como projeto salvífico de um dos ramos mais populares do budismo no Japão. Para entender o papel de Jizo Bosatsu, a pesquisa, portanto, utilizou o referencial filosófico de Paul Tillich a respeito da aproximação necessária entre religião e cultura enquanto chave hermenêutica para o tema. Conclui, ao final, que as crianças, enquanto seres sencientes, também possuem igual importância daqueles que já dominam a linguagem e a confissão religiosa, encontrando, assim, um lugar digno para a infância na sociedade.

ABSTRACTBackground:The study's aim was to examine the association of alcohol consumption with verbal and visuospatial memory impairment in older people.Methods:Participants were 1,572, aged ≥60 years, in the hospital-based registry of the Clinical Research Center for Dementia of South Korea (CREDOS). Moderate drinking was defined as no more than seven drinks per week and three drinks per day. Memory impairment was defined as performance with more than 1 standard deviation below the mean value on the Seoul Verbal Learning Test and Rey Complex Figure Test.Results:Those who consumed alcohol moderately, compared with abstainers, had a lower odds of verbal memory impairment (Odds Ratio [OR] = 0.64; 95% Confidence Interval [CI]: 0.46–0.87), adjusting for covariates. Visuospatial memory, however, was not significantly associated with alcohol consumption.Conclusions:Moderate alcohol drinking is associated with a reduced likelihood of verbal memory impairment among older people attending memory clinics.

O presente artigo apresenta o conceito de “palavra de Deus” em Lutero, tal qual Lutero o desenvolve em seu escrito Dos concílios e da Igreja, em 1539. Na parte inicial, são apresentados, a partir do escrito de Lutero, três pressupostos que se precisa levar em conta para entender o conceito luterano de “palavra de Deus”: a) a visão da Igreja, a partir dos credos ecumênicos, como comunhão dos santos; b) a reformulação reformatória da notae ecclesiae ecumênica da santidade, através de sua interpretação a partir da estrutura teológica do decálogo; c) a compreensão de notae ecclesiae em Lutero. Apresentados os pressupostos, apresenta-se as diversas dimensões da palavra de Deus enquanto notae ecclesiae em Lutero. Ao final, são traçadas reflexões em vista da comemoração do jubileu dos 500 anos da Reforma e em vista das contribuições de Lutero para o movimento ecumênico.

Este texto examina las relaciones entre misioneros católicos y de estos con los protestantes en la zona fronteriza del Vaupés colombo-brasileño. La presencia de católicos comenzó en la zona en 1914 y no es nada despreciable pues cerca de 450 religiosos entre sacerdotes y monjas llegaron a la región. Los protestantes pertenecientes a dos organizaciones de origen norteamericano (Misión Nuevas Tribus e Instituto Lingüístico de Verano) arribaron treinta años después y alcanzaron una cifra de 115 miembros. Sus relaciones como su impacto diferencial sobre las poblaciones misionadas son un tópico poco desarrollado en las historias de misión, que en este texto se ilustra a través de la consulta de fuentes primarias que detallan los vínculos o visiones de miembros de distintos credos sobre sus contrapartes. El estudio muestra como estas visiones cambiaron a lo largo del tiempo.

A finales del siglo XIX fueron introducidas en México, a partir del sistema educativo, nuevas definiciones sobre la adolescencia basadas en observaciones científicas, concebidas desde la perspectiva de la naciente psicología experimental y de la medicina. El presente artículo está enfocado en el estudio de las propuestas del profesor, funcionario y “psicólogo” mexicano Ezequiel A. Chávez sobre la formación de los adolescentes. Mi objetivo principal se centra en el análisis y recepción de su libro intitulado Ensayo de psicología de la adolescencia (1928), donde su autor compiló sus cursos de “psicología de la adolescencia” impartidos en la Escuela Normal Superior desde 1922. El texto que a continuación presento es un estudio de caso donde se advierte que las conceptualizaciones de la adolescencia deben concebirse históricamente, ya que reflejan las preocupaciones, credos, proyectos sociales y nacionales de los grupos que han contribuido a generar sus distintos significados.
