AbstractTo enhance the physical properties of copolymer-polyamide (CO-PA), a sequence of nanocomposites based upon CO-PA and chemically reduced graphene oxide (CRGO) nanoplatelets were prepared by in-situ reduction using hydrazine hydrate. Atomic-force microscopy (AFM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis showed that the thickness and the width of GO was about 0.9 nm and 1 μm, respectively. Its preparation through the wet exfoliation of graphite inevitably leads to a product lacking several of the outstanding features of graphene. The destroyed graphene structure can be at least partially reconstructed by thermal and/or wet chemical reduction. Abstract:
Integrin αvβ3 is more highly expressed in high-grade glioma cells than in normal tissues. In this study, a novel boron-10 carrier containing maleimide-functionalized closo-dodecaborate (MID), serum albumin as a drug delivery system, and cyclic arginine-glycine-aspartate (cRGD) that can target integrin αvβ3 was developed. The efficacy of boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) targeting integrin αvβ3 in glioma cells in the brain of rats using a cRGD-functionalized MID-albumin conjugate (cRGD-MID-AC) was evaluated. Abstract:
Central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO) is the ocular analog of ischemic stroke, causing sudden visual loss. The most common cause of CRAO is embolism due to atherosclerosis of the carotid artery. CRAO resulting from paradoxical embolism, such as a patent foramen ovale (PFO), is uncommon. It is also rare for CRAO to present with neurological symptoms other than visual loss. We report a case of transient oculomotor nerve palsy in a patient with CRAO caused by PFO.

Seasonal outbreaks of cutaneous and renal glomerular vasculopathy (CRGV) have been reported annually in UK dogs since 2012, yet the aetiology of the disease remains unknown. The objectives of this study were to explore whether any breeds had an increased or decreased risk of being diagnosed with CRGV, and to report on age and sex distributions of CRGV cases occurring in the UK. Multivariable logistic regression was used to compare 101 dogs diagnosed with CRGV between November 2012 and May 2017 with a denominator population of 446,453 dogs from the VetCompass database. Abstract Background Chronic Recurrent Multifocal Osteomyelitis (CRMO) is a rare, autoinflammatory bone disorder. CRMO was linked with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), either as an extra intestinal manifestation or as a paradoxical effect of anti-TNFa therapy. Our goal was to define the clinical features and natural history of patients carrying a dual diagnosis of CRMO and IBD Methods Medical records of pediatric patients with a dual diagnosis of IBD and CRMO were reviewed in nineteen centers from the Paediatric IBD Porto Group of ESPGHAN. Central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO; retinal stroke or eye stroke) is an under-recognized, disabling form of acute ischemic stroke which causes severe visual loss in one eye. The classical risk factor for CRAO is ipsilateral carotid stenosis; however, nearly half of patients with CRAO do not have high-grade carotid stenosis, suggesting that other cardiovascular risk factors may exist for CRAO. Specifically, prior studies have suggested that cardioembolism, driven by underlying atrial fibrillation, may predispose patients to CRAO. We describe the design of an observational, population-based

Background and purpose: Curcuma aeruginosa rhizome essential oil (CREO) is widely used in traditional medicine owing to its diverse biological activities. However, no information regarding its potential toxicity is available. This study aimed to evaluate the potential acute and sub-acute oral toxicities of CREO in Sprague Dawley rats. Experimental approach: CREO was isolated via steam distillation and characterized using GC/MS. For acute toxicity, rats were divided into four groups and administered CREO at 2, 4, 8, and 16 g/kg. For the sub-acute evaluation, 30 male and 30 female rats were divi

Abstract Background Chronic recurrent multifocal osteomyelitis (CRMO) is a rare auto-inflammatory disease in children that causes relapsing episodes of pain. Patients are treated with anti-inflammatory medications or immune-modulating agents. Increasing evidence suggests that CRMO is mediated by dysregulation of the interleukin-1 pathway, not a bacterial source. However, CRMO is often a diagnosis of exclusion, and patients occasionally receive antimicrobials for possible culture negative infectious osteomyelitis. Intellectual disability (ID) is often part of the syndrome. During childhood, most patients with CRGS receive multidisciplinary (MD) and specialized pediatric care in tertiary centers. As improvement of medical care has improved life expectancy, more and more patients are now reaching adult age. While the complexity of the syndromes persist into adulthood, adequate multidisciplinary syndrome-specific care is rarely available for adults with

Abstract Background Boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) is a particle radiation modality capable of selectively destroying tumor cells. The most commonly used boron compound for BNCT is boronphenylalanine (BPA). BPA is taken up into the tumor cell via the L-type aminoacid transporter (LAT-1). However, there are some BPA-refractory situations. Therefore, a novel boron compound is expected to improve the therapeutic performance of BNCT. We focused on integrinαvβ3, which is overexpressed in malignant gliomas as in many cancer cells, and have developed cRGD-MID-AC, a conjugate of cyclic RGD (cRGD
