Acheta domesticus, the common house cricket, is the cosmopolitan species. Based on 100 crickets, a mean time spent in each stage (egg, nymph and adult) for the cricket was calculated. Female crickets produced an average of 2,195±225 eggs per life, but there was variation due to food availability and temperature. Females laid 125±15 eggs/day during the reproductive life period which averaged 3 weeks ±3 days. In the confinement of 25°C, the duration of the egg phase was on average 13±2 days. The cricket nymphs required 56±5 days to mature with 8 molts for becoming adults. Adult stage duration av

Abstract Introduction. In cricket, the evaluation of individual player performance has been based on measures such as batting and bowling averages. These statistics are used to quantify the batting and bowling performance of cricketers, but there are no statistics for measuring the performance of fielders. This paper introduces a measure that can be used to assess the fielding performance of cricketers. Method. Various factors that are considered important in fielding are quantified to scores based on the ball-by-ball information of a match for each cricketer. The fielding points of each ball

Crickets, like other insects, play a vital role in maintaining a balance in the ecosystem. Therefore, the ability to identify individual crickets is crucial as it enables ecologists to estimate important population metrics such as population densities, which in turn are used to investigate ecological questions pertaining to these insects. In this research, classification models were developed to recognise individual field crickets of the species Plebeiogryllus guttiventris based solely on the audio recordings of their calls. We model the match outcome given the end of first, second and third innings positions and then use this for decision making. The goal of fast bowling in cricket is to dismiss a batsman for as few runs as possible. To assist this goal, fast bowlers will attempt to maximise ball release velocity (BRV) to decrease the decision-making and stroke execution time of the opposing batsmen. Fast bowlers will also employ various delivery lengths (i.e. short, good and full) to assist in affecting a batsman’s stroke execution. Several issues remain to be addressed with regards to the biomechanical assessment of fast bowling. This is particularly evident when analysing fast bowling performance (i.e. BRV), the implications of fron
