Este artigo é fruto de uma pesquisa mais ampla acerca do impacto da depressão do filho(a) adolescente na família e tem como objetivo discutir as estratégias familiares para lidar com o sofrimento emocional. Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa, na qual foram realizadas sete entrevistas com mães de adolescentes que receberam o diagnóstico de depressão. Os resultados apontam para a dificuldade das mães de diferenciarem a crise normal e depressão na adolescência, bem como para a sobrecarga emocional e instrumental que cuidar do filho adolescente acarreta.
