Abstract:
Field experiments were conducted in Kentucky and Louisiana in 2008 and 2009 (split-plot in a randomized complete block design with four replications) to investigate it is possible to simulate with manual defoliation the effect of soybean rust (SBR) (Phakopsora pachyrhizi Syd. and P. Syd) injury on a healthy soybean [Glycine max, (L.) Merr.] canopy, understand how defoliation affects the growth dynamics and canopy light interception, and if defoliation affectsleaf senescence and nitrogen remobilization during the seed-filling period. The experimental objective. The study was designed to establish the effects of crop stand density and fertilization on spring rape productivity. Statements to be defended: 1. Crop stand density and plant supply with nutrients affect the penetration of photosynthetically active radiation to the soil surface and various heights of crop canopy. 2. Under favourable nutritional conditions, spring rape reaches the maximum photosynthetic productivity at flowering in a crop with a lower stand density; while under less favourable conditions, the maximum photosynthetic productivity at flowering is achi

Abstract:
The effects of managing soil with organic amendments were examined with respect to soil microbial community dynamics, macroaggregate formation, and plant physio-genetic responses. The objective was to examine the possibility of managing soil microbial communities via soil management, such that the microbial community would provide agronomic benefits. In part one of this research, effects of three amendments (hairy vetch residue, manure, compost) on soil chemical and microbial properties were examined relative to formation of large macroaggregates in three different soils. Abstract:
Most soils in the Eastern Cape Province, South Africa are shallow and are low in organic matter. Therefore these soils are structurally fragile and highly susceptible to inherent degradative processes like hardsetting. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of cattle manure, scalping and soil wetness on aggregate stability, penetration resistance and early maize growth in hardsetting soils. Glasshouse and field studies were conducted to determine the effect of cattle manure on aggregate stability and penetration resistance of freshly exposed topsoils by scalping at 0, 10 and 2

The study examines the formation and development of Chinese American populations in Augusta, Savannah, and Atlanta, Georgia from the beginnings of Chinese Exclusion period through the passage of the Immigration Act of 1965. Although people of Chinese ancestry were in an ambiguous position upon their arrival in the 1880s within the black-white dyad that defined southern race relations, they were able to negotiate this system, transforming themselves from being perceived as “outsiders” before the 1940s to being treated as “honorary whites” by the late 1960s. Abstract:
The house fly, Musca domestica can transmit human pathogens including Escherichia coli O157:H7 through regurgitation of ingested bacteria from the crop which is a foregut organ of house fly and stores the excess ingested nutrients. Interactions between the ingested bacteria and the crop have a direct influence on bacteria persistence, survival and ultimately fly vector competence. In this research, in situ crop vessel assay was developed to investigate bacterial growth within fly crops up to 48 hours post-ingestion. Flies were fasted for 12 h prior to feeding E. coli O157:H7 pEGFP and then fed
