Abstract:
The genetic associations between cow teat and udder traits with maternal contributions to calf mortality were studied in Brahman (BRAH) and Tropical Composite (TCOMP) cattle managed in extensive production systems of northern Australia. Data from 9286 purebred and crossbred calves, progeny of 2076 cows and 149 sires, were recorded from 2003 to 2011. Calf weights at birth (BWT) and weaning (WWT) were routinely recorded. The event of calf death before weaning (DWEAN) was analysed as a repeated-measure of the cow. Cows were also scored at each calving for front- and back-teat size and udder size

Abstract:
Lambing percentage is the main contributor to higher profit on New Zealand sheep farms and has increased from 98% in 1960 to 124% in 2006. As ewe litter size increases so does the proportion of triplet-born lambs and consequently preweaning mortality rate. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of birthweight (BWT) on survival in triplet-born lambs within and among litters. Data from a total of 594 triplet crossbreed lambs born to mixed-age ewes was analysed. For the statistical analysis, the lambs were allocated according to their BWT, and within the litter were then allocate

The aim was to determine the heritability of egg weight, hatch weight, age of a week body weight in crossbred chickens. This research was conducted from August-November 2017, in Tumbihe Village, Kabila District, Bone Bolango District, Gorontalo province. The research material was eggs and DOC originating from a cross between male Kampung chicken and female Leghorn chicken, Isa Brown strain, these eggs were weighed and hatched in a hatchery machine. The parameters measured were egg weight heritability, hatch weight, 1 week body weight in crossbred chickens. Data were analyzed by descriptive sta

Background: Severe Combined Immuno Deficiency (SCID) is a heritable deficiency transmitted through autosomal recessive gene, carried on by purebred Arabian and crossbred horses. A deletion of five base pairs at the gene encoding the catalytic subunit of the Protein Kinase DNA-dependent (DNA-PKcs) is responsible for this disease and SCID-affected animals always die in the first six months of life. Considering this problem, it is important to perform a molecular epidemiological study to estimate the frequency of the SCID allele in Arabian purebred horses in Tunisia. Methods: The DNA of the periph

Background: Cranioschisis is a malformation that occurs during embryological development and results in incomplete closure of the skull, leaving an opening through which the intracranial tissue can project. Meningocele consists of herniation of the meninges containing cerebrospinal fluid through the cranial defect. In cattle, this association usually manifested by the appearance of a floating saccular protrusion of variable size and volume in the frontal or parietal region of the cranium. This manuscript aims to report a case of cranioschisis associated with meningocele and neurological defici
