Abstract:
Bentonite and mixtures of bentonite and crushed rock are potential sealing materials for high level nuclear waste repositories. The materials have been used to form cap layers to reduce infiltration for mined waste tailings and can also be used to construct clay liners for municipal as well as industrial waste managements. This study includes a systematic investigation of the sealing performance of bentonite and bentonite/crushed rock plugs under diverse conditions. American Colloid C/S granular bentonite and Apache Leap tuff have been mixed to prepare samples for laboratory flow testing. Bent

Cement treatment for pavement basecourse materials results in the creation of cement treated basecourse which is either classified as "modified" or "stabilised". The two classifications perform differently in service, with susceptibility to fatigue being the most obvious characteristic delineating the two. This classification methodology is currently quantified based on Unconfined Compressive Strength (UCS) ranges.Throughout the 1990s to the early 2000s, Main Roads Western Australia (MRWA) has investigated various basecourse products created by adding cement. Abstract:
Hydrated Cement Treated Crushed Rock Base (HCTCRB) is produced by mixing a standard crushed rock base with 2% cement (by mass) and water then a re-mixing process is performed after the specific hydration period. This technique improves the engineering characteristics of the materials while still maintain the unbound properties. Performance evaluation of HCTCRB was investigated with variation of factors during manufacturing and construction. Finally, the experimental results were implemented for the pavement analysis and design.

Concrete in Sweden has traditionally been manufactured with natural aggregate from glaciofluvial eskers. There is a need to preserve the remaining eskers because of their cultural value and importance for water filtration, thus natural aggregate has to be replaced. The most realistic alternative is to use crushed rocks. The major problem with crushed rocks in concrete production is the workability. This is because crushed rocks have less favorable properties. The fragments are flakier and have a rougher surface than natural aggregates that have been rounded in water. Without any amelioration o

A cone crusher is a crushing machine which is widely used in the mining, construction and recycling industries. Previous research studies have proposed empirical mathematical models to simulate the operational performance of a cone crusher. These models attempt to match the size distributions of the feed and product streams. The flow of the rock and its breakage within the cone crusher chamber are not explicitly modelled by these methods. Moreover, the ability to investigate the changes in crusher performance affected by changes to the crusher design geometry and/or operating variables (includ

There is little process control employed at aggregate crushing plants and essentially no optimization at the primary or jaw crushing stage. Jaw crusher selection is very dependent on the subjective judgment/experience of individuals, the characterization of rock material using inadequate and unrepresentative tests, and the desire to limit secondary breakage, resulting in the conservative selection and operation of jaw crushers. A method for predicting the power consumption, product size, and volumetric capacity of jaw crushers based on fracture toughness has been proposed in this study. A n
