Abstract:
This licentiate thesis deals with the Modeling, Control, and On-line optimization of Cone Crushers. Cone crushers are used for size reduction of minerals and are considered as a central element in many mineral processing plants. It consists of a cone rotating eccentrically inside a larger bowl and the particles are crushed in the cavity between these. In spite of its simple construction, the cone crusher represents a complex system from a modeling point of view, as its operation comprises many physical actions that are combined together to give the overall behavior. The main purpose of the work

Abstract:
In the comminution industry, cone crushers are widely used for secondary and subsequent stages of size reduction. For a given crusher, the achieved size reduction is governed by the closed-side setting. Hadfield Steel is commonly used to line the crushing members to minimize wear. Yet, liner wear caused by some rock types can still be excessive. Enlargement of discharge opening induced by wear of liners produces a drift in product size which, if unchecked, can lead to high volumes of re-circulating load. Alteration of closed-side setting is now commonly achieved via hydraulic means. However, c

High and medium-pressure roller crushers operate on the principle of inter-particle crushing by crushing material in a packed bed. Although reference in the study is made to high-pressure roller crushers, the work was done with medium–pressure roller crushers i.e. the Loesche mill and the Horomill. The difference in pressures between these equipment and high-pressure grinding rolls (HPGR) from measurements done by FCB, the supplier of the Horomill, was that the medium-pressure equipment operates at pressures of 30 MPa whilst the HPGR operates at pressures as high as 100 MPa. There is little process control employed at aggregate crushing plants and essentially no optimization at the primary or jaw crushing stage. Jaw crusher selection is very dependent on the subjective judgment/experience of individuals, the characterization of rock material using inadequate and unrepresentative tests, and the desire to limit secondary breakage, resulting in the conservative selection and operation of jaw crushers. A method for predicting the power consumption, product size, and volumetric capacity of jaw crushers based on fracture toughness has been proposed in this study. A n

There is a need to preserve the remaining eskers because of their cultural value and importance for water filtration, thus natural aggregate has to be replaced. Abstract:
A geometrical model for the rock crushed zone around a cylindrical charge is developed. The model is used to obtain empirical relationships between the scaled crushed zone diameter and some dimensionless ratios of explosive and rock properties. The ratios are velocity ratio, characteristic impedance ratio, medium stress ratio, and detonation pressure ratio. The empirical relations for granite, salt, and limestone in combination with a variety of explosives show that the scaled crushed zone diameter increases at a decreasing rate with increasing dimensionless ratios. The shape of the wave front

Abstract:
This research investigates the methods controlling shrinkage cracking of Recycled Crushed Concrete (RCC) and RCC blended with two recycled aggregate types, namely, brick & tile and ferricrete, for road base whilst retaining the inherent strength of the base material. The strength tests on the various blends indicated that with the addition of brick & tile or ferricrete to RCC, the resulting materials remained "stiff'. In conclusion, using recycled materials can enhance heavy duty pavement behaviour.

Abstract:
Particle shape is evaluated on three scales corresponding to form, roundness and roughness. Shape at each of these scales uniquely influences material behavior. The shape of sand grains is largely formed as magma cools. Subsequent cleavage and abrasion change the roundness and roughness of particles. Published results indicate that particle shape influences several aspects of granular systems behavior including stiffness, strength, the evolution of strength anisotropy, dilation, and the development of strain localization. The crushing of granite creates a particulate material with a unique an
