Abstract:
This study used all-journal data and systematic random sampling data to primarily determine the average number of issues per year and the average number of articles per issue among the Science Citation Index (SCI), Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI), Chinese Science Citation Database (CSCD) (China), and Chinese Social Sciences Citation Index (CSSCI) (China) journals. The random sampling data were based on 5% SCI and SSCI samples and 10% CSCD and CSSCI samples. The objectives were to have a 2018–2019 record of the journal publication frequency detailing the number of articles per issue and the number of issues per year for the journals on the lists, as well as to compare Chinese journals’ data with those of international journals, in the perspective of scholarly publishing transformations in the world as well as in China during the past two decades. The study found that the average number of issues per year for SCI, SSCI, CSCD, and CSSCI journals was 10.95, 5.18, 9.17, and 7.87, respectively, and that CSCD/CSSCI journals publish more articles than SCI/SSCI, with CSSCI journals publishing significantly more articles per year than SSCI journals. The author fees for non-OA journals in China could play a role in the higher number of articles. The “mega journal” phenomenon does not seem to be a common practice among all the journal lists studied.

Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this study is to construct a Chinese information science resource ontology and to explore a new method for semiautomatic ontology construction. Design/methodology/approach – More than 8,290 articles indexed in the Chinese Social Science Citation Index (CSSCI), covering the years 2001 to 2010, were included in this study. Statistical analysis, co-occurrence analysis, and semantic similarity methods were applied to the selected articles. The ontology was built using existing construction principles and methods, as well as categories and hierarchy definitions based on CSSCI indexing fields. Findings – Seven categories were found to be relevant for the Chinese information science resource ontology, which, in this study, consists of a three-tier architecture, 78,291 instances, and 182,109 pairs of semantic relations. These results indicate the following: further improvements are required in ontology construction methods; resource ontology is a breakthrough concept in ontology studies; the combination of semantic similarities and co-occurrence analysis can quantitatively describe relationships between concepts. Originality/value – This study pioneers the resource ontology concept. It is one of the first to combine informetric methods with semantic similarity to reveal deep relationships in textual data.

Abstract : This thesis deals with experimental investigations on the effects of the addition of the electrolytic salts cesium chloride (CsCl) and calcium chloride (CaCl2), on structures, shapes and sizes of the micellar aggregates found in homogeneous liquid-crystalline phases of the ammonium pentadecafluorooctanoate and water binary mixtures (APFO/H2O). Combined experimental techniques, such as polarizing optical microscopy, viscometry, Abbe refractometry, optical transmittance with laser light, turbidity, x-ray diffraction and the use of a method of direct observation by a system specially built for determination of optical properties / thermodynamics, show that the addition of CsCl to the binary system APFO/H2O greatly influences the phases, quenching the micellar nematic phase and producing new types of structures, size and form of the micellar aggregates at high concentrations of APFO and CsCl. At low APFO and high CsCl concentrations, new structures are formed and identified as polymorphic vesicular structures, multilayers (multiple bilayers) and monolayers (single bilayer) having sizes that reach up to 120 ìm in diameter and, therefore, nominated the "giant vesicles". These vesicular aggregates (sphericals and cylindricals) are promoted in the solution spontaneously, simply by the effect of the CsCl added, that is, no special technique is needed to promote their formation. Vesicle's formation is surprising once the molecules of the surfactant APFO are anionics and have single carbon tails.

Norton, Matthew J. "The impact and consequences of inspection on residential care for older people : a critical analysis of four case studies of Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI) inspection." Thesis, University of York, 2009. http://etheses.whiterose.ac.uk/842/.

Full text
Abstract:
This research examines the impact and consequences of inspection by the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI). The study begins with a Systematic Review (SR) of existing literature that is divided into effectiveness and process questions. The results of this review show there is no international literature on the effectiveness of inspection at improving residential care for older people. There is also very little process literature. The second part of the research uses a multi-site case study approach with a longitudinal element, to qualitatively examine the impact of inspection in relation to the quality of care provided by residential care homes for older people. Four CSCI inspectors from four different inspection offices across England took part in the study. The case studies show inspection struggled to induce quality improvements in services and had little direct impact on residents. A ‘culture of ageism’ existed within the services and this influenced both provision and residents expectations of care. Provision in all four case studies was still dominated by institutional routine and a lack of service user empowerment. In this context despite clear evidence regarding the value of outcomes focused care this had, by enlarge, not filtered through to the services in this study and there was still a tendency to focus on outputs without relating these to service user outcomes. I argue that the complexity of residential care, which depends upon an interaction between environment, care home management, staff, residents, their relatives, and the government inspectorate means that the most successful method of quality improvement comes through partnership and negotiation between the these groups. My findings have shown that it is very rarely one group who is decisive in determining an improvement in quality and that change must come about through negotiation. Although inspection must incorporate a notion of ‘assessment’ that is standardised and measurable, it should also encompass professional judgement and actively seek to include elements of user-expertise. I argue that despite rhetoric that advocates this approach the inspection regime is hamstrung by a particular form of management values and practice. Constant ‘modernisation’ of the inspectorate has further emphasised a model of inspection that sees care as a series of discrete events, where each issue is clearly defined and decisions are taken by inspectors who choose between a prescribed set of judgement criteria. To this extent inspection is increasingly focused on audit. I raise the question whether in the changing landscape of inspection the CSCI has marginalised inspectors and risks losing a very valuable method of effecting change.

Full text
Abstract:
Dye sensitized solar cells have been widely studied this last decade because of their relatively low cost. However, the principal way used for coating the titanium dioxide films (TiO2) requires a sintering step at 450°C, witch forbids the use of the low cost transparent conductive substrates. In this work, we optimise the structure and morphology of the TiO2 magnetron sputtered films for the best photovoltaic performances and also for the possibility to use the low cost substrates (PET-ITO and Glass-ITO). For process control, two methods are used, the classical flow rate control and the plasma emission monitoring (PEM). The ideal film must have the best surface area and the highest cristallinity. The results have shown that the high pressure range promotes the desired morphology to the detriment of the cristallinity, so a compromise between them has been necessary. The oxygen partial pressure to total pressure ratio (PO2/Pt) seemed to be a crucial parameter on the properties of films. The film porosity has been estimated by optical measurements, where it appeared that it increases with the total pressure, the PO2/Pt ratio and the layer thickness. The substrate tilt was imposed as an alternative parameter to the pressure for controlling the morphology. The photovoltaic performances have been correlated to the structural and morphological properties. The tilt substrate parameter had heavily changed the cell performances, with optimal performances at a tilt angle of 60°

The purpose of this paper is to describe the development of a very high-speed instrumentation and digital data recording system. The system converts multiple asynchronous analog signals to digital data, forms the data into packets, transmits the packets across fiber-optic lines and routes the data packets to destinations such as high speed recorders, hard disks, Ethernet, and data processing. This system is capable of collecting approximately one hundred megabytes per second of filtered packetized data. The significant system features are its design methodology, system configuration, decoupled interfaces, data as packets, the use of RACEway data and VME control buses, distributed processing on mixedvendor PowerPCs, real-time resource management objects, and an extendible and flexible configuration.

Abstract The organization life cycle theory points out that an enterprise at developing stages will be inevitablely encountered with different phenomena and problems. In order to grow and compete, an enterprise should have correct decisions and execution, adjust organization function and management style, and solve the problems of internal organization, external environment, or unforeseen difficulty. This research adopted the case study method, probed into the problems and decisions of the China Steel Structure Company(CSSC)during the four stages of life cycle, and learned the growth experiences of the company. By doing so, we reviewed the organization theory, found out the present situation and characteristics of the structural steel industry, and then investigated the CSSC’s growth process, including organization framework, growth and change, organization features, and the industry environment. Questions were designed based on the above-mentioned information, to interview the case company, analyze and verify the following:(1)Whether the characteristics of the organization at different stages are consistent with those stated in the theory.(2)What kinds of decisions were made by management and executed when dealing with the problems at each stage.(3)The reasons for the phenomena, problems, decisions and executions at every stage are resulted from internal organization, external environment, or unforeseen difficulty. Based on the above analysis the lessons learned from the organization life cycle were derived. In addition to the lessons learned for the case company, two general lessons are important and worthy of reference to other companies:(1)A subsidiary company should be offered the opportunity to grow by itself. (2)Technology oriented companies should gradually pay attention to management and adopt management methods.

Abstract:
A syringe driver, or pump, represents a simple and cost-effective method of delivering a continuous subcutaneous infusion (CSCI). A CSCI provides a safe and effective way of drug administration and can be used to maintain symptom control in patients who are no longer able to take oral medication. There have been several developments in this field since the third edition of this highly successful book. The text in this edition has been completely revised, including a new chapter describing the compatibility and stability of drugs in addition to incorporating new treatment options and an extensive list of new compatibility data. This book serves as a valuable reference source, providing a comprehensive review of syringe pump use and administration of drugs via CSCI. The first chapter provides an overview of syringe pumps and CSCIs, including a useful array of frequently asked questions and reference to needlestick injuries. The new second chapter discusses the reasons why drugs in solution are at risk of compatibility and stability issues. The third chapter incorporates revised and referenced information relating to most drugs likely to be administered via a CSCI using a syringe pump. The fourth chapter briefly discusses the control of specific symptoms that are often encountered when CSCIs are required. The fifth and final chapter contains an extensive, referenced (where possible) list of physical and chemical stability data relating to drug combinations administered via CSCI.

Salt stress is currently one of the most critical factors, reducing agricultural production. Indian mustard (Brassica juncea) is a major oilseed crop in these areas. However, salt affects as much as 50–90% worldwide yield reduction. Salt tolerance is a very complex factor controlled by a number of independent and/or interdependent mechanisms and genetic modification that lead to many changes in physiology and biochemistry at the cellular level. The classical methods of plant breeding for salt tolerance involves the widespread use of inter and intraspecific variations in the available germplasm which is essential for any crop development program. This large germplasm is then tested under various salt levels in microplots, which is a quick, reliable, reproducible and inexpensive method of salt tolerance. Genotypes that have shown better indications of stress tolerance without significant yield reduction are considered to be tolerant and are also used as potential donor in the breeding programs. In this way, ICAR-Central Soil Salinity Research Institute (ICAR-CSSRI), Karnal developed and produced five varieties of Indian mustard that tolerate high salt namely, CS 52, CS 54, CS 56, CS 58 and CS 60 in the country, and many other high-quality pipeline lines exploration and development. These salt-tolerant species work better under conditions of salt stress due to various manipulations (physiology, genes and molecular level) to fight salt stress has led to detrimental effects. Recent molecular tools to add classical breeding systems to improve saline-tolerant mustard varieties in a short span of time, including the Marker Assisted Selection (MAS) and backcrossing, that have helped using simple sequence repeats (SSR) and single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) markers to identify quantitative trait loci (QTLs) that control the polygenic traits like tolerance of salt and seed yield.
