Full textDespite the large development of intonation studies in recent years, many investigators still deplore the absence of such studies in Spanish. Understandably so, if one looks at the few, but nevertheless existing studies, which raise questions such as the applicability or the objectivity of the employed theory, or the representativeness of corpuses. Morel and Danon-Boileau developed their Grammaire de l’intonation from a varied, spontaneous corpus. Most of all, they combine intonative feature analysis with the syntactic organisation of speech, thus pointing out the complementarity between segmental and suprasegmental constituents. The point was thus to collect a spontaneous oral corpus of the Cuban Spanish variety, before analysing it within the above theoretical framework. A detailed study of intonative features (fundamental frequency, intensity, time and pause) alone or in conjunction, enabled to point out some of these features’mechanisms, more often than not very close to the results found for French. Additionally, some of the constituents of the collected corpus were studied in relation to their intonational pattern. This study focused on ligateurs, ponctuants, postrhèmes and terminal parenthesis mechanisms, as well as on a communicational strategy called Nucleus-Catalysis

Full textThe in-service training of teachers in Cuba has become a field of study and, at the same time, a concern of the government and the entire university community, as it constitutes a strategic framework for improving and transforming the educational processes developed at this level. This accelerated development of science in the world requires university graduates, and in particular teachers, to adopt an attitude of continuous improvement that allows them to update their knowledge in the sciences with which they work.At present, current professional development remains insufficient and the university increasingly requires a change in educational objectives to become a true development organization. This implies that professional development must be a priority, which provides and promotes the preparation that teachers lack in some areas. In accordance with the diagnosis of each person, in such a way as to allow the mastery of the subject, the solidity of his scientific and pedagogical knowledge, the development of the capacities necessary for the planning and successful orientation of the teaching-education process. In the context of the transformations of higher education in Cuba and more particularly the training of foreign language teachers, the teaching of French as a foreign language (FLE) is a priority. The purpose of this research is to study the process of training university teachers and its objective is to build an in-service training program that contributes to the preparation of FLE teachers for the treatment of the phono-prosodic characteristics of French. The theoretical contribution lies in the philosophical, sociological, psychological and pedagogical support of the training programme and in the pedagogical requirements that guide the training of teachers, as well as in the definition of the phono-prosodic traits of French, which will enrich the teaching of French as a foreign language in this sense. The practical contribution lies in the programme, which consists of five areas and a set of actions that are integral and logical in nature. The actions are part of the professional development of the Faculty of Pedagogical Sciences of the University of Sancti Spiritus in Cuba. The proposed programme is evaluated using an expert criterion, an experiment and an interview survey

Full textThe novelistic production in the spanish-speaking region of the caribbean is very heterogeneous and relatively abundant. Therefore we have divided this production in different types, first of all in a semiotic optic (actantial composition, axiologic values, thematic configurations) and then by inserting these novel-cultures in the intellectual and economic evolution of the four analysed countries. Considering the heterogeneous aspect of this approach, we insisted on a theoretical clarification in an introductory chapter. Three types result of our analysis: 1 - the novel on ethical-cognotive facts 2 - the novel of the charismatic anti-hero 3 - the novel of nationalist humanism

Full textThis thesis suggests thinking about potential to carry out a bilingual vocabulary, no in standard language but in variations regional language, namely, between Cuban Spanish and regional French of French Antilles. Besides this theoretical approach the overall plan of this thesis is to offer a concrete proposal of this bilingual vocabulary and to explain principles and the main directions epistemological and methodological. The objective is to give to translators, who enter in delicate initiative translation of literary works, in which reside a “interlanguage” (French/Creole or Castillan/Cuban), a perfectible tool which can to make easier their translation's work, considered as a new creation. In face, the “inter linguistics” dimension and the “inter cultural” dimension of those literatures are doing of the writing language a real style. This is why translators have to invent strategies of translation so as to respect this style. The translation of those literary works forms a “sinuous road” for the translator. A vocabulary creation could help the translator who would like preserved the “inter linguistics” dimension and the “inter cultural” dimension of those literatures. Using a corpus of Cuban’s texts which have a potential “inter linguistics” and “inter cultural”, Biografia de un cimarrôn of Miguel Bamet, Cuentos negros de Cuba of Lydia Cabrera, Écue-Yamba-Ô of Alejo Carpentier, Cecilia Valdés o la soma del àngel of Cirilo Villaverde, and a novel from Martinique, Ravines du devant-jour of Raphaël Confiant, which received the literary prize Casa de las Américas in 1993. To provoke the interest of our comparative approach, we underline lexical variations of Cuban Spanish regarding standard Spanish, and lexical variations of regional French of French Antilles regarding standard French. This comparative approach brought out neologisms, archaisms and borrowings are the cause of those variations regional language. Conceming variation of regional French of French Antilles, the mutual influence between Creole and French are also the cause of this variation regional language. This comparative approach evidenced too historical, cultural and linguistic relations between those two islands: Martinique and Cuba. Factors linked with the history, the fauna, the flora, the African presence, but especially the principal problem of the appointment of the island’s realities has kindled a reflection about the translation of words in Cuban Spanish and regional French of French Antilles.Actually, the comparison of Spanish’s translation of Ravines du devant-jour and the comparison of French’s translation of Biografia de un cimarrôn, enabled reveal obstacles specific to the translations of those literary works, as soon as the project was to preserve the coefficient of “caribeanity”. In this way, we could propose lexical similarities between those two variations regional language.Epistemological and methodological dimensions are an essential section of this research, but the practical end is important too

Full textThis paper presents a first general characterization of the speech of the Cuban community in Montreal, with special attention to two aspects: the behavior of some of the characterizing features of Cuban Spanish in migrant speakers, and the possible contact-induced variations. To do this, we use data from a corpus collected by the researcher through recorded conversations (colloquial speech) with 19 Cubans: ten men and nine women currently living in Montreal. After analyzing the data, we have found that the characterizing features are preserved in the speech of Cuban residents in the city. The data also show some variations induced by the contact with the dominant languages (French-Spanish and, to a lesser extent, English-Spanish) band other varieties of Spanish, as well as with a new reality that is socio-economically, politically and culturally very different from the Cuban one. The detected variations at the morphosyntactic level are mainly in invariable words (prepositions). At the lexical-semantic level, we have found predominantly loanwords. There are also semantic loans, calques and frequency changes of some words. Concerning the pragmatic level, a slower rhythm of speech, possibly due to the condition of functional bilingualism, has been observed. In sum, the speech of the Cuban participants in this study shows some of the characteristic features of any language contact situation, but also has peculiarities relating to the characteristics of the community under study (language attitudes, for example), the typological distance between the languages involved (Spanish-French) and the contrast between the societies, among other factors.
