Heritage is one of the attractions in cultural tourism. The city of Bandung is known as a heritage city because it inherits various heritage buildings. A form in heritage conservation is through tourism. One of the stakeholders who use the heritage building for tourism is community. The example of the stakeholder is Historical Trips. Nowadays, heritage tourism is increasingly in demand, both by domestic tourists and international tourists. However, tourists' knowledge of cultural heritage buildings after attending heritage tours held by community is unknown. The purposes of this study are to find out the characteristics of Historical Trips’ users, find out the typology of tourists who took Explore Logeweg Tour and analyze tourist knowledge of cultural heritage buildings in the central area of ​​Bandung. Based on the result and discussion of the research, the conclusions of this study are the characteristics of Historical Trips’ users who joined Explore Logeweg are female, aged 31-50 years, work as private employees with undergraduate education, unmarried and from Bandung city. The typologies of cultural tourists who take part in the Explore Logeweg Tour held by the Historical Trips are the purposeful cultural tourist, the sightseeing cultural tourist, the serendipitous cultural tourist, and the casual cultural tourist. Tourists who attended Explore Logeweg Tour have enough and good knowledge of cultural heritage buildings in the central area of ​​Bandung. The level of their knowledge is at the level of knowing and understanding (comprehension).

Purpose The development of heritage tourism has experienced a great development in recent years, mostly centred in the cities that are World Heritage. This paper aims to present an analysis of the relationship between Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) declared by UNESCO and tourism development associated therewith. Design/methodology/approach The methodology used in this research consisted of a fieldwork to determine the socio-demographic profile and perceptions of foreign tourists participating in this intangible cultural event. Additionally, the features of this tourist destination are also analysed. Findings The main results of this research shows the high cultural level of tourist respondents, the significant economic level of travellers and the perceptions of heritage tourists in participation in the Festival. Research limitations/implications The expansion of this line of research is to include other ICH; this should contribute to the generalisation of the knowledge acquired in this subject. Practical implications The main practical implications are centred on better understanding of the key factors involved in the relation between intangible cultural heritage and tourism. Social implications This study highlights the features that a heritage tourist destination must have to create a sustainable tourism destination with a combination of culture and tourism. Originality/value Heritage, generally tangible cultural heritage, is used as a resource in the destinations. This paper analyses the relationship between intangible cultural heritage and tourism, an aspect little studied by the scientific literature.

The cultural heritage tourism site is hard to maintain identity since it is not representing the real identity in the site. Alongside, diminishing of the place significance that occurs at the cultural tourism site also contributed to the conflict of place identity. By considering the issue that faced at cultural heritage tourism site, the aims of this study are to understanding the potential of conflict place identity at cultural heritage tourism site towards the domestic tourist perspectives. Two objectives for this study: i) to identify the factor conflict of place identity that affect the significance of cultural heritage tourism site, ii) to evaluate the significance of place attachment towards the conflict of place identity at cultural heritage tourism site. This study is using quantitative techniques and the domestic tourists as main respondents at Petaling Street, Kuala Lumpur. The result of this study showed that the factors of conflict place identity at cultural heritage tourism sites could affect the tourist’s experiences and expectations about the tourism places. This study may inspire the stakeholders in handling the conflict of place identity and delivered better services to tourists for better services at cultural heritage tourism sites.

As one of the touristic hot spots after Beijing Olympics games as well as a typical sports cultural heritage tourist attraction, Beijing Olympic Park has become a new tourism landmark and tourist destination in Beijing. Based on a tourism market questionnaire survey, this paper analyses the present situation and existing problems of the tourism development in Beijing Olympic Park from the tourists perspective. This paper also tests five research hypotheses and makes some suggestions on the tourism market, tourism branding, tourism activities, tourism support system etc. specifically for Beijing Olympic Park.

Singapore and Hong Kong are two geographically small economic powerhouses in Asia. In recent years both cities have been attempting to develop their tourism economies by communicating their unique cultural heritages to global tourists. While heritage culture-based tourism practice may help conserve a destination's cultural heritage, its development accelerates the change of the local society; and in the process the authenticity of the cultural heritage of the destination may be lost. This paper presents a comparative analysis of the efforts adopted by Singapore and Hong Kong to communicate their cultural heritages through the tourism developments. It focuses on three questions: (1) Do the inherent contradictions between conservation and change associated with tourism development constitute threats or resources for heritage tourism development? (2) What are the major issues in the process of portraying the past in the present for heritage tourism development? (3) What implications may be drawn, by studying these issues, for the tourism industries in their planning, conservation and promotion efforts to develop heritage tourism?

Tourism as social practice is inseparable from culture. The position of tourists towards culture is divided. Tourists primarily motivated by culture are not many. However, on the global tourist market this group represents a growing, exceptionally lucrative niche. Accidental and reluctant consumers of culture total some 45%. Through specific elements of cultural offer tourist marketing aims to attract both groups. A truly impressive and highly presentable national cultural heritage is a key element in the process of Croatian tourism revival and creation of a recognisable identity. The most immediate task is to define a relationship between culture and tourism, i.e. what tourism can gain through culture, how culture can be applied in tourism, and how profitable it is. Investigations of printed promotional materials indicate a lack of fundamental understanding on part of the tourist destination regarding the role of cultural heritage in tourism. This indicates the need for improved private-public sector collaboration and a better understanding of the sociodemographic traits, i.e. national habits and class pursuits of prospective tourists.

Tangerang city has the potential to developed cultural heritage tourism because many places are considered as tourism potential that can be a major attraction for tourist visiting to tangerang city.The problem the authors take in this research is about development of cultural heritage tourism into a tourist attraction in the city of tangerang. Tourist attaraction should be able to contribute satisafction for tourists in aspects 4 a (attractions, accessibility, amenities and ancillary or institutional). This research was conducted to determine the potential of existing cultural heritage tourism attractions and make this potential as a tourist attarction in tangerang. The research method used is a qualitative research method. Researchers use exsisting data in the city of government in the development of cultural tourism as well as the results of interviews that have been conducted to the resource persons.The results were analysed using development theory such as attraction, accessibility, amenities and institutional. Aspects of attractions include something to see, learn, taste and experiences which has not been completed offered to tourists, but there are plans to add existing attractions. Aspects of accessibility is suffieciently because of many transportation and easy roads to reach the destination. Aspects of amenities is also adequately for the reason that restaurant and lodgings are not far from the heritage area.the institutional aspects of tangerang city government now has support and plan for heritage in tangerang city to be accomplished and can be enjoyed by society and tourists.Based on the research results concluded that tangerang city can be developed into a tourist attraction from the four aspects. Furthermore, tangerang city must pursue the concept of tourism development towards sustainability and environmentally so the potential heritage tourism is secured and conserved.

The increasing drastic competition between tourism destinations decides on only the sites with good reputation can attract more and more tourists. The tourism destination reputation will affect tourists’ choices before traveling and consumption behavior during traveling. In order to analyze tourist consumption behavior during traveling, this article initially builds a theoretical model of tourism destination reputation, tourist enjoyment, tourist memorability, and tourist consumption behavior. Then, 490 valid questionnaires are collected based on a field survey. Meanwhile, a basic sample information collection, reliability, and validity testing (confirmatory factor analysis) and testing analysis based on structural equation model are conducted on the collected data. The result of the confirmatory factor analysis shows that the tourism destination reputation is measured by five factors: catering, accommodation, landscape, culture, and recreation and entertainment; tourist enjoyment is measured by the feeling of joy and relaxation; tourist memorability is measured by emotional memory, expectation memory, benefit memory, and interest memory; tourist consumption behavior is represented by five indexes: willing consumption, urgent consumption, guided consumption, repeated consumption, and recommended consumption. The hypothesis testing shows that the heritage tourism destination reputation not only directly and positively influences tourist consumption behavior but also indirectly affects tourist consumption behavior through tourist memorability and the chain relationship between tourist enjoyment and memorability. Finally, some suggestions are put forward to improve the tourism destination reputation and tourist enjoyment and memorability.

Cultural Tourism offers a strong motivation to preserve the elements of cultural heritage in tourist destinations. It helps to preserve cultural elements as important tourist attractions. Cultural tourism’s notion is unlimited to visiting monumental attractions only, but it has also become an interactive experience with the social fabric of the community through attending exhibitions, festivals and events, and the purchase of traditional local products. Thus, the human capital factor in tourism is linked to the quality of tourism products. With the growth of international tourism, the importance of sustainable tourism development has emerged to protect natural, cultural, and human resources, in addition to achieving economic development. As non-sustainable tourism development has led to the deterioration of tourism resources. This research paper examines if cultural tourism contributes to decrease tourism seasonality and achieve sustainable tourism development in cultural heritage sites. A case study of Aswan was selected. Aswan has unique and important elements of cultural heritage (Tangible and Intangible), but it still faces many problems like tourism seasonality, besides its tourism is still weak compared with other cities that have the same tourism potential. Based on a literature review and analytical study of global examples that achieved sustainability in cultural heritage sites, a field study of Aswan was conducted to evaluate the current status of cultural tourism, besides illustrating the challenges of achieving sustainability. The major result that has emerged from the study is paying attention to cultural tourism is the possible solution to the challenges that Aswan tourism faces. Finally, the paper concluded that investment in human capital creates opportunities for cultural tourism which in return resolves one of tourism’s major challenges: seasonality.

AbstractThe paper deals with the relationship between the presence of world heritage sites in a country and the volume of international tourist arrivals and international tourism receipts. World heritage sites are unique tourist attractions with enhanced attention paid to their protection, preservation and sustainability. The paper analyses whether the needs of sustainability can be harmonised with the requirements of a profitable and successful tourism sector, by statistical analysis of data about world heritage sites and tourism performance, for 129 countries of the world from 2014 to 2017. The results show that both cultural and natural world heritage sites are generally strong attractions for tourists and can contribute to increased arrivals and receipts. Cultural sites were found to have higher impact on arrivals, while natural heritage sites seemed to have more impact on receipts, which suggest, that visitors of natural world heritage sites are usually higher spenders, than tourists visiting cultural sites. Countries widely differ, however, in this respect by their geographical locations. Countries in Europe and Latin-America & the Caribbean region benefit most from cultural world heritage sites, while African, and North American countries experienced the benefits of natural world heritage sites more. The general level of development measured by per capita GNI also mattered for the less developed areas, but not so much for developed regions that possess a suitable level of infrastructure, health and education, and living standards.

Cultural tourism is recognised as one of the broader sectors of the tourism industry, embracing an extensive range of tourist interests. Italy is a remarkable tourist destination due to its cultural appeal in tangible and intangible heritage as well as its cultural resources connected to food and gastronomy, and it is of special interest since the COVID-19 pandemic was declared in March 2020. This study sought to analyse the perceptions of diverse significant actors regarding culture and tourism during the COVID-19 pandemic in Langhe, Monferrato and Roero, an area of southern Piedmont in north-western Italy. As part of a larger collaborative international project addressing the coronavirus situation, the research examined residents, tourists and tourism-related professionals to investigate their perceptions of culture and tourism. Data were collected through a survey employing three distinct questionnaires for the three target groups of residents, tourists and entrepreneurs and cultural bodies. The data analysis reveals that residents embraced a static representation of the local cultural tourism’s appeal and heritage, while tourists were motivated mainly by gastronomic and wine experiences. The perception of the coronavirus among the three groups of interviewees reflects a general reduction in almost all cultural activities and travel possibilities.

The problem emerges through, how the role of built heritage to attract tourists in order to give vitality and liveability to the cultural tourism destination such as Al - Mustansiriya Madrassa which is one of the most popular heritage destinations, a historic school building situated in the ancient Abbasid district of Rusafa in the very heart of Baghdad.
Therefore, the research's aim is to shed light on the heritage attraction as a mean to clarify the meaning of Cultural Tourism and specifying its definition.
This research explains how the built heritage plays an important role in tourism in general and in the cultural tourism in particular because they attract tourists and provides a sustainable economic resource through its inclusion of values that make it distinct from other sources of attraction.

Flamenco is a living art that excites and awakens the senses of those who witness such a dance, singing and guitar show. It is a way of expressing feelings. Flamenco was considered a world intangible heritage of humanity by UNESCO and is a part of the identity and culture of Andalucía, place where it originated. Flamenco is a symbol of Spanish culture around the world. In addition, it has been discovered that there is a typology of flamenco tourists whose motivation is related to the search of experience and authenticity in the tourist destination. A search of published scientific articles on emotional tourism, motivation and flamenco has been conducted using three databases: Web of Science, Scopus and Google Scholar. Flamenco is an art that transmits passion in each of its three components: song, dance and music. Therefore, tourism management of the sites where flamenco is part of its identity must bet on its development and potential as a motivating factor to travel, bringing the emotion to the tourist, which consists not only in perceiving it, but also in experiencing it, living it. We conclude that Flamenco as a living art forms an essential part of Spain’s cultural heritage and becomes an important tourist factor to cover the experiential needs of tourists.

Tansen is renowned for its natural settings, historic buildings and a living cultural heritage that have remained, from medieval period until now. By UNWTO statistics,internationally, cultural tourism comprises 39% of the total tourism arrivals. This reaffirms that offering greater access to the cultural and heritage assets would give Tansen a competitive edge over the other tourist destinations and increase its attractiveness as a top tourist destination in Nepal. This article is related to study of how the heritage sites could be revived to make the cultural heritage tourism sustainable and regain Tansen’s economic vibrancy that has been depleting in the recent times. The purpose of the study is to examine the current state of the cultural heritage management in Tansen, to examine the prospect of revitalizing the cultural heritage assets and; to examine the role of the local communities in these aspects. The methods used in the study were site observations, a key informant interview of experts including the city Mayor, tourism entrepreneurs, site mangers and opinion survey of tourists and the local community resident. The study shows that local population has a positive opinion and initial enthusiasm on the emerging tourist arrivals after the restoration of Rani Mahal, but their role is marginalized in the process. This is the key proposition to start an initiative for the local communities to actively participate in tourism development projects. ‘Revitalizing the Rani Mahal heritage’ launched through the Public Private Partnership with support from UNESCO could build the trust amongst the high end international as well as domestic tourist and attract more investments to conserve, protect and promote the heritage capital stocks for the Tansen tourism development.

Historical sites have always been popular attractions for both domestic and international tourists. Most of the tourists who visit the countries other than their own are often interested in the historical importance of the place. The cultural heritage of an area is expressed in its historical resources. Many tourist destinations are devoted to history. The preservation of history, the quality and management of museums are of most importance for successful tourism. Heritage monuments are important tourist attraction in cultural tourism. Heritage sites are products or, perhaps, constructions of history; they owe distinctiveness to the past. That distinctiveness remains recognizable but is often presented in new ways. The Cultural expressions of these monuments constitute potential learning and recreation resources. These resources, coupled with heritage, contribute to the richness of any landscape, which can attract innumerable tourists looking for the "cultural experience Cultural tourism is perhaps the fastest growing sector of the industry today and thus its potential is yet to be fully tapped. This article looks at the new and upcoming area of heritage walks as a component of sustainable urban cultural tourism. It highlights the growing area of heritage tourism and its relevance in context of India. It also explains the concept of heritage walks and its various versions in different cities of the world. Historical resources when presented properly will not only educate tourists but also the local community and helps in conserving it for future generations. The study included opinions from students of different disciplines, history teachers and corporate in order to gauge their potential interest in heritage walks. The findings suggest that heritage walks can be harnessed to give a different perspective of history to the discerning traveler and the local community while giving a boost to sustainable tourism practices in the area.

Differences in national cultures and unique cultural heritage are among the main drivers of international tourism de- velopment. There is faster growth and more noticeable specialization in this segment of the tourism market. In recent years, there is increased attention to the role of event tourism as an efficient way to engage elements of intangible cultural heritage to the organization of travelers’ leisure, and thus to increase tourist flows while minimizing damage to the environment and the material cultural heritage. The article presents the results of a study conducted in Vladimir region by means of expert interviews and case study. The analysis has shown that a year-round calendar of event tour- ism, based on attracted intangible cultural heritage, contributes to the interest of tourists for the first destination visit and helps to create a basis for increasing the repeat visits share. Moreover, it helps to solve a set of interrelated issues, including inventory and preservation of intangible cultural heritage and to balance the interests of all destination stake- holders (business actors, tourists, residents, governmental and municipal bodies). It is possible to reduce unevenness of tourist flows in time and space, and to overcome the problem of Vladimir-Suzdal Museum Reserve limiting possibilities to serve growing visitors flow without damaging the material cultural heritage included in the UNESCO list.

This research focuses on the planning and strategy of the packaging of heritage tourism products in Kerta Tourism Village in order to improve the local economy, considering that Kerta Tourism Village has so many heritage tourism potential that has not been developed yet. This research is expected to benefit local communities and Gianyar Government in adding data, as preliminary data, and consideration data for further in-depth research. This research has a scope that is limited to two variables, that is identifying the heritage tourism potential owned by Kerta Tourism Village and compile a strategy to package heritage tiourism in Kerta Tourism Village. The data sources used are primary data obtained from interviews with the informants, observations, and documentation in Kerta Tourim Village, and the secondary data is obtained from various books used as the theoretical basis to supporting the research. Based on the results obtained, in Kerta Tourism Village there are many tourism potentials that can be developed into a tourism attraction, one of which is heritage tourism that can be combined with cycling tourism activities and certainly useful for local people and tourists.

<p>To enhance the understanding of tourists behavior and to provide some suggestions for a sustainable development of cultural and heritage tourism in Macao, data of this study were collected from Macao cultural and heritage tourists who are visiting famous attractions in the historic center of Macao, to observe the tourism motivation, perceived value, and destination loyalty of cultural and heritage tourists in Macao. In this study, the results of factor analysis of cultural and heritage tourism motivation show that tourists’ perceived value, which contains three dimensions: scenic value, knowledge value, and social value. These dimensions can be considered as the primary indicators of perceived value which positively influence tourists’ destination loyalty. It is worth noting that the direct effect value of cultural and heritage tourism motivation to destination loyalty through perceived value is greater than tourism motivation’s direct effect on destination loyalty. Therefore, some suggestions have been put forward for the sustainable development of cultural and heritage tourism in Macao. Firstly, attractiveness cultural heritage in Macao should be designed and highlighted according to tourists’ tourism motivation. Secondly, the unique value proposition should be proposed from different dimensions of tourists’ perceived value, allowing tourists to experience the differences of Macao from other destinations. Finally, great importance should also be attached to the management of tourists’ perceived value other than just continuously increasing the attractiveness of cultural heritage itself based on tourists’ tourism motivation, which has an indirect influence on destination loyalty to make publicity for the destination voluntarily of tourists.</p>

These sites have encountered many challenging problems such as poor tourist experience, over-commercialization, and loss of cultural authenticity. This study took the coordinative green development of tourist experience and commercialization of tourism (CGDTECT) at cultural heritage sites as the research objective, using two UNESCO World Heritage Sites—the Ancient City of Pingyao and West Lake Cultural Landscape of Hangzhou—and the Confucius Temple in the historic district of Nanjing as case studies. As such, we attempted to construct an indicator system for CGDTECT at cultural heritage sites. We adopted a fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method and importance-performance analysis (IPA) method to analyze the importance and performance of CGDTECT from a tourist’s perspective. Our findings show that tourists thought the coordinative green development and experience at the three cultural heritage sites were more important; they were basically satisfied with CGDTECT at the three case studies, so a continuous promotion strategy could be taken. The findings of this study can provide scientific theoretical guidance and practical reference for CGDTECT at cultural heritage sites, and contribute to the scientific protection of cultural heritage sites and the sustainable development of tourism.

This paper explores the use of narratives in the transformation of historic sites in the polar regions into attractions and consumable tourism products. The analysis is based on a case study of visitation to the airship mooring mast built at Ny-Ålesund, Svalbard, for the 1926 “Amundsen-Ellsworth-Nobile Transpolar Flight” of the airship Norge. The questions addressed in this paper are: How does cultural heritage in the polar regions operate as a tourist attraction? What is the role of tourism narratives in creating a tourism attraction? Direct observations constituted the main research method. Based on Dean MacCannell (1976) and Neil Leiper (1990), a tourism attraction is a system comprising a tourist or human element; a nucleus or central element; and a marker or informative element. Tourism narratives enable the different elements of the tourism attraction system to “click” together into a coherent whole. Through narratives, the mast becomes a place of significance and a symbolic marker of the North Pole and polar exploration. The application of this approach to other sites in Antarctica and Svalbard is discussed.

Based on the findings of this research regarding the effect of Tourism Destination on tourist’s retention, it was discovered that there is an effect of Tourism Destination on tourist’s retention. With the improvement of Tourism Destination, tourist’s retention can be increased. Based on findings of this research, it was discovered that tourist satisfaction has no effect on tourist’s retention. The decreased Tourist Satisfaction leads to the decline in tourist’s retention. Regarding the effect of sustainable cultural and heritage tourism, tourism destination and customer satisfaction on tourist’s retention in Nias Island, it was revealed that these three variables (sustainable cultural and heritage tourism, tourism destination and customer satisfaction) have simultaneous effects on tourist’s retention in Nias Island.

The significant tourist potential of the country, the uniqueness and specificity of its components are highlighted: natural (primarily, vegetation and wildlife, as well as relief and climate), historical and cultural objects.It is noted the historical and cultural potential deserves to be in greater demand, because a large number of objects of historical and cultural heritage retain and disseminate authentic information about the historical past of the country, its ethnic, cultural characteristics and traditions. The purpose of the work is to explore the distribution of various heritage objects within the states and territories of Australia as an important resource for the development of various types of tourism. The database of the research is the information from the Australian Bureau of Statistics and the website of the Ministry of Environment and Energy. The paper analyses and assesses the number, composition, and degree of diversity of heritage sites and theirlocations on the territory of administrative units. The study was completed using methods of mapping, geographical analysis, information analysis techniques, namely the calculation of the entropy index. It was found that the regions of Australia provide outstanding diverse and unique resources, which creates preconditions for the development of new tourist destinations and the further growth of the tourism industry. The states and territories with the largest number and diverse composition of heritage sites and significant potential opportunities for the development of various types of tourism are identified. It was noted that Australia is a new active tourist destination for Ukrainian tourists that has significant prospects. Inaddition to the classic excursion routes and visits to wildlife parks, there are popular combined routes such as: excursion program with a beach holiday; combination of excursions with active tourism; professional training programs for agricultural workers combined with visiting heritage sites and beach recreation.New tourist routes are associated with the development of author’s tours with a unique program in accordance with the features of the country and the wishes of tourists and the wider use of the country’s historical and cultural heritage.

Industrial tourism includes all plants used for food processing, wood processing and textile industry, there are also mills, ports, mines, car and aviation industry, shipyards, etc. Within the doctoral dissertation entitled "Potentials of cultural-historical and economic heritage for the development of industrial tourism in the Timok region", a research was conducted that deals with the growing interest of industrial tourism in Eastern Serbia, more precisely in the Timok region. This branch of tourism is no longer a sphere of interest only for certain groups of technical experts, but also for regular tourists who are interested in touring certain regions. The aim of the research is to present the possibilities for the development of industrial tourism in the Timok region, as well as to obtain data on the current situation. The research is based on the experiential information of tourism workers who, due to the nature of their work and interests, are relevant to the proposed topic. The surveyed respondents are employed in the field of tourism in various positions, as well as students who are educated in the field of tourism. The data obtained during the research indicate respondents believe that the media do not sufficiently inform potential tourists about industrial tourism attractions, the potential of the tourist offer, but also about the Timok region itself, both locally and beyond, in Serbia and abroad. Such data indicate the possibility of improvement through the application of an adequate strategy to promote and inform potential users, as well as the insufficient usage of the industrial potential of the region itself. Investing certain resources in the marketing and development of industrial tourism would create additional demand, and this would result in the improvement of the tourist offer. Valorization of industrial heritage in Eastern Serbia can stimulate regional identity, revitalize the area and create additional tourist attractions. Plans and results from certain projects of this type are very important for the region, but also for the state.

The purpose of this study is to discuss the role of ICT in cultural heritage tourism through a case study of the Hiraizumi world heritage site in Japan that was registered in 2011. As it promotes tourism through the world heritage registration, Hiraizumi is operating on the major premise that it will safeguard its cultural heritage while also placing importance on developing systems for accepting a diverse range of tourists using the universal design perspective. When doing so there are limits to facility refurbishment and infrastructure development so the town focused its attention on support for information aspects, or in other words support using ICT. Going forward as individual travel becomes more mainstream the ways in which new value is created in Hiraizumi tourism are likely to include (1) transmission of the value of the cultural heritage in collaboration with researchers and (2) development of tourist areas in which excursions on foot are possible. We discuss the possibilities for utilization of ICT in these measures and the utility of the participatory design approach.

Bung Karno's heirloom house is a historical tourism object that has an attraction and has an important role in increasing tourist visits. Intangible cultural heritage is a natural fit for tourism development due to its extensive cultural and artistic value. Authenticity is important in the development of intangible cultural heritage tourism. This case study considered Celadon Town, a classic scenic spot of intangible cultural heritage in Zhejiang Province, China, to design questionnaires and a research model involving cultural identity, authenticity perception, tourist satisfaction, and traveler loyalty. This model was used to explore the indigenous presentation of authenticity, that is, the “Traditional Firing Technique of Longquan Celadon,” and its impact on tourist satisfaction and loyalty. On the basis of the research model and hypotheses, relevant data were collected through a questionnaire survey, tested, and analyzed using a structural equation model (SEM). Findings indicate that authenticity of intangible cultural heritage has a significant positive effect on destination satisfaction and loyalty, which supplements related research on the authenticity of intangible cultural heritage destinations. This study advocates that building a characteristic town is a unique development mode of intangible cultural heritage tourism. The model integrates the cultural and tourism attributes of intangible cultural heritage. Based on this development model, the study offers related suggestions for the construction of authenticity and the realization of long-term development of tourism destinations.

Inheriting and developing the Functioning Tourism System (FTS) model of Gunn (Gunn, 1988; Clare, Gunn, & Turgut Var, 2002), this study assessed the potential of cultural heritage tourism (CHT) in Vietnam. The research results show that the current CHT activities in Vietnam are below the potential. In addition, the study shows that the heritage tourism potential is based on the elements that constitute the tourism system according to the FTS model as destination/attractions, transportation, information, promotion, system of services, travel needs of the community and especially safety and security not only in the area of the tourist destination but also in the whole country. These elements are closely linked with each other and without one of these elements, the tourism system cannot exist and develop. The study also clarifies that the more complete the heritage tourism system, the greater the potential for CHT.

A new perspective on the importance of preserving cultural heritage across the world has recently been emphasized both culturally and economically to benefit human civilization going forward. One of the arms of the United Nation, UNESCO has ratified its significance through its member nations. While the benefits can be foreseen, it is certainly a challenging undertaking that requires high levels of creativity mostly out the box approaches. One obvious reason is that cultural conservation and promotion will only make sense if it is economically sound and sustains. Surakarta City, better known as Solo, is one of the centers of Javanese culture that is rich in history dated back to the ancient Javanese kingdoms. It is an attractive tourist’s destination. It has seventy historic buildings, monuments, and urban sites of cultural significance. They are arranged into six category areas or districts that are composed of traditional, colonial, and religious buildings, gates, memorials, bridges, parks, and open public spaces as listed in the Provincial Decree and are protected under Cultural Property Law. Its cultural heritage also includes important urban areas. Surakarta's physical appearance is well defined and is its tangible cultural heritage. While it is important, the wealth of knowledge and skills that are transmitted from one generation to the next play very crucial roles. Intangible cultural heritage includes oral traditions, performing arts, social practices, rituals, festive events, knowledge, and skills needed to create traditional arts and crafts. This intangible cultural heritage must be nurtured in the social and daily life of its people and interwoven into the mainstream of social groups and will determine the survival and success of cultural heritage succession.
This paper will discuss potential roles of diaspora in cultural heritage preservation, promotion, and tourism in Surakarta based on the unique characteristics of diaspora, their needs, interests, views, and economic capabilities. By understanding the nature of diaspora, their potentials can be channeled to promote and safeguard cultural heritage and empower citizens to be actively engage in sustainable economic activities. Culture-related economic activity accounts for more than 2.4% of Spain’s GDP. Specifically, according to the 2017 Spanish Cultural Statistical Yearbook, cultural tourism was the motivation for 16.8% of total trips within Spain taken by domestic tourists in 2016, and more than 12% of trips by foreign tourists visiting Spain. The valuation of the cultural heritage assets that attract tourists involves using, among other techniques, direct methods that account for potential visitors’ preferences. The aim of this research is twofold: first, to identify the socioeconomic profile of the tourists who visit Jaén; and second, to quantitatively assess, by means of the contingent valuation method, visitors’ willingness to pay for the services offered by a cultural heritage interpretation centre. The results of this case study confirm the tourism potential of the site.

Purpose – This paper aims to focus on the impact of cultural heritage tourism in North Coast Peru on local communities and artists, in particular, on efforts to use the burgeoning interest in pre-Inca cultures to involve local communities in the development of tourism. A number of studies have explored the connection between archaeology, cultural heritage, and tourist development in Peru and Latin America. While North Coast Peru is an area rich in pre-Inca cultural heritage, many residents near the impressive archaeological sites are in need of an improved quality of life and more economic development opportunities. Design/methodology/approach – This paper draws on ethnographic fieldwork, including interviews with site directors, local development personnel, government officials, and artists as well as observations of relevant tourist-related sites and events, conducted by the author during 2011-2012 in the North Coast cities of Trujillo and Chiclayo. Findings – The so-called “new archaeology” plays an important role in the region by using archaeology, in a sense, as a pretext for community development, while exploiting the historical ties between ancient and modern cultures in the area has provided economic development opportunities for local residents. Projects such as those developed in Chotuna, the Pomac Zone, and Túcume provide opportunities for community participation and development at multiple levels. Further, the historical ties posited between ancient and modern local communities in the area have led to successful projects that recuperate artisan techniques and indigenous crops. Originality/value – As the North Coast undergoes a larger process of re-imagining its historical past and cultural heritage, a focus is needed on efforts to involve local communities in the development of tourism in ways that empower local people and have the potential to lift them out of poverty. In part, then, this project is intended to connect the growing concern for a more nuanced understanding of the non-Quechua [Inca] indigenous cultural heritage of Peru with cultural heritage preservation and tourism studies.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to construct a grey clustering evaluation model based on center-point mixed possibility function and to evaluate the tourism development potential of tea intangible cultural heritage. The research results provide a certain reference for the tourism development department and related researchers who are engaged in the tourism development of intangible cultural heritage. Design/methodology/approach The study uses literature research, questionnaire investigation, expert interviews and factor analysis to determine the evaluation index system of tourism development potential of tea intangible cultural heritage and applies analytic hierarchy process (AHP) to determine the weight of each criteria. Then, according to the grey clustering evaluation theory and two-stage decision model, a grey clustering evaluation model is constructed to assess the tourism development potential of tea intangible cultural heritage. Finally, a new model is employed to evaluate the tourism development potential of tea intangible cultural heritage in Huangshan city. Findings The results show that there is a big difference in the tourism development potential of different tea intangible cultural heritages in Huangshan City and it further illustrates the scientificity and rationality of the method proposed in this paper. Practical implications The model constructed in the paper can be effectively applied to the evaluation of tourism development potential of tea intangible cultural heritage scientifically and reasonably. Originality/value This manuscript not only constructs the evaluation index system of tourism development potential of tea intangible cultural heritage but also creatively applies the grey clustering theory to the evaluation of tourism development potential of tea intangible cultural heritage, which provides a new research idea for the evaluation of tourism development potential of tea intangible cultural heritage.

Sustainable tourism, in the cultural context, is a fundamental element for the economic development of some local communities. There are many factors that can influence the success of this type of tourism, but any action or strategy adopted should be closely related to the satisfaction of the tourist. This research focuses on a heritage destination of an archaeological nature, and is aimed at analyzing the profile of the cultural tourist and his/her level of satisfaction after visiting the site. Information was collected using a closed questionnaire given to tourists. An ANOVA analysis has been used to determine the relationship between sociodemographic characteristics and satisfaction, with significant results found in relation to gender and income level. This study has helped to highlight what underlies the differences in tourists’ post-visit satisfaction. These analyses have provided information that can be used in the planning of future sustainable tourism marketing strategies; thus, this study provides some recommendations on how to improve the provision of services and the management of these types of heritage elements.

Historical and cultural blocks in Chinese historic districts are important components of sustainable heritage tourism. In towns along the Grand Canal, historical and cultural blocks are generally integrated with modern commerce, forming a complex space characterized by multi-elements, multi-cultures, and multi-functions. The understanding of tourists’ spatial cognition thus becomes extremely important to support heritage conservation and encourage sustainable heritage tourism. This study proposes a space syntax-based methodology to help inform heritage consultants and urban designers in understanding the tourists’ spatial cognition of canal town cultural blocks, and thereby assists designers and managers in identifying where cognitive experiences can be improved. The proposed method is applied to Nanyang, which is a canal town currently in decline in Shandong Province, and is contrasted with the ancient town of Wuzhen in Zhejiang Province, China, a highly successful tourist town. By using this proposed method, the relationship between street networks and tourists’ spatial cognition has been explored. The results of the analysis were evaluated in order to inform a range of design concepts that could enhance the sustainable heritage tourism experience of these two towns.

The article substantiates the necessity for discovering and preservation the intangible cultural heritage and the importance of the developing the legal framework in the field of intangible cultural heritage. The author gives recommenda- tion how to increase the flow of tourists through their learning the intangible cultural heritage and involvement in the rituals and festive events, folk arts and crafts. The article analyzes not only a positive effect on the intangible cultural heritage, but also presents the factors of negative impact. The recommendations how to reduce and minimize their impact are given. The analysis of the problems of involving intangible cultural heritage of Belgorod region in tourism is the aim of the study. This revealed development prospects of such types of tourism as ethnographic and event tourism. Based on the existing inventory of intangible cultural heritage of Belgorod region the author assesses the potential for tourism development based on intangible cultural heritage. The most promising areas of Belgorod region, having the greatest potential for development of tourism based on intangible cultural heritage, are selected. The most valuable objects of intangible cultural heritage of Rakityansky and Chernyansky districts with the greatest potential for tourism based on the intangible cultural heritage are described and identified. Analysis of the major problems of involving the intangible cultural heritage of Belgorod region in tourism has been carried out. Statistical methods, theoretical and problem analysis are the main for the study. As the research result, the set of measures to preserve and secure involvement of the intangible cultural heritage in tourism of Belgorod region has been developed.

Cultural tourism is a good way to promote and, consequently, safeguard the cultural heritage of sites. Film tourism is an increasingly demanded form of cultural tourism more focused on the fictional rather than on the authenticity of sites, depriving them from their true identity. This article is proposing a system of indicators of sustainable development in order to evaluate and guarantee long-term sustainability in those sites identified with traditional cultural heritage and where films have been shot. The Historic Centre of Peñíscola, which was declared a Historic-Artistic Site in 1972 and has become film scenery in numerous occasions, has been chosen to be evaluated. The union of a series of film sceneries obtained from the cinema productions that best match the local heritage, through the latter has resulted in a final cultural landscape where the degree of conciliation between them is high. Therefore, the welfare of the host society is in balance with the tourist demands, which makes the Historic Centre of Peñíscola an accurate study case that can contribute to improve a methodology we aim to extrapolate to other tourist destinations threatened by a new uncontrolled mass of tourist.
