In this assessment, eleven avian count surveys at Montezuma’s Castle National Monument were examined to determine the avian species presence or absence trends during the past 93 years from 1916-2009. The Tohono O'odham and their predecessors have occupied southwestern Arizona and northern Mexico (Pimeria Alta) for thousands of years. During that time the physical environment as well as the occupants' cultural patterns changed. This historical geographic study chronicles that change.
