My dissertation sheds light on multilayered experiences of identity in an indigenous, Yucatec Maya community where both deaf and hearing persons use sign language. <p> My research examines how the writers of the <i>Granada Pioneer</i>, a newspaper published in a Japanese American internment camp during World War II, used the editorial column of that publication to shape the community identity of that camp.
