Abstract:
It is well known that each community has a cultural affiliation and a specificity that distinguishes it from other societies, Globalization in its various forms, including cultural globalization, has institutions, means and objectives, which bear positive and negative connotations, threaten the cultural constants and Civilization specificities of each nation, whether on the level of religion or language or history or customs and traditions or noble traditions, It is therefore necessary to improve the employment and utilization of cultural globalization in a way that ensures that positive aspects are taken without negatives.

Abstract:
Since the 1960s, the world has witnessed an increasing fragmentationof the production process across national boundaries; the emergence oftransnational (as opposed to multinational) corporations; the rise of newsocial movements; and heightened cross-border flows of capital andlabor. As a result of these developments, scholars and practitioners havesought to understand what has brought about these changes. Is globalizationthe culprit, or is it simply a myth? If globalization is a reality, whatdoes it entail and how does it affect the realms of economy, polityy andsociety? In Paul Hirst and Grahame Thompson’s Globalization inQuestion: The International Economy and the Possibilities ofGovernance (1 996); James H. Mittelman’s (Ed.) Globalization: CriticalReflections (1 996); and Malcolm Waters’ Globalization (1 999, the struggleto answer these questions and many others is undertaken.’This article critiques the major points presented by each author inregard to the questions asked above. Each author’s views on globalizationas it relates to the economy, the state, and culture will be examined.Furthermore, this article will show that while all three works have theirdrawbacks and shortcomings, it is recommended that each book be readto gain an understanding of the wide range of empirical and theoreticalperspectives on globalization. The conclusion will offer suggestions onareas requiring more in-depth inquiry. What Is Globalization? While Mittelman, as well as Hirst and Thompson, discuss globalizationprimarily in terms of economic processes, Waters sees globalizationas driven by social or cultural processes. According to him, globalizationis a “social process in which the constraints of geography on social andcultural arrangements recede and in which people become increasinglyaware that they are receding” (p. 3). Waters contends that in a truly ...

The article shows that modern processes of globalization are complexly structured and have not a simple configuration. By preventing globalization, countries strive to preserve their diversity, identity and cultural traditions. Cultural pluralism has become a pronounced feature of the world community. Within individual cultures, there are processes of increasing individual and group independence in determining cultural activities and cultural consumption.

Abstract:
When Tokyo Disneyland opened in 1983, the Japanese people welcomed this American cultural export with open arms and open wallets. The decade that followed saw continually rising profits and the highest spending-per-guest of any Disney theme park. In 1992, the Walt Disney Company attempted to emulate this success by opening Euro Disney, only to face financial disappointment and cultural backlash. While some basis for these divergent experiences might be found in the inherent differences between Japanese and European (specifically French) culture, this is by no means a full explanation. Instead, this article places more of the onus on organizations to approach globalization in a more responsive, rather than control-oriented, manner.

Abstract:
With the advent of globalization and an ever-growing widespread access to information and communication technologies (ICTs), the cultural minorities become increasingly involved in a process of cultural standardization at the expense of their own cultural identity and language. Different social, economic, and technological elements, together with mainstream education play a very important role in the negation of regional and local cultural identities. These factors lead minoritarian cultural groups to see the dominant culture as more attractive and modern, which often pushes them to abandon their own culture in the hope of better employment perspectives and a better lifestyle for them and their children. In the face of this cultural crisis, intercultural education for all can help stop the erosion of cultural diversity around the world.

Businesses today need employees who can operate on a global stage, whether as international managers, technical specialists, expatriates or 'parachutists' who make occasional troubleshooting trips abroad. Yet cultural misunderstandings in the workplace can complicate even the simplest tasks. Something that sounds like a 'Yes' to a foreigner may actually be a polite way of saying 'No'. Fully updated and expanded for this second edition, Management Worldwide is essential for managers, students of management and organizations who want to know how managers operate and business is conducted in different societies. It is essential reading in a global economy where cultural differences can still mean make or break.

Abstract:
Contemporary business leaders require suitable leadership strategies, skills, capabilities, and competencies to lead individuals with culturally diverse backgrounds effectively. Local retail business executives have experienced complex leadership challenges leading international and intercultural teams when expanding business operations into global markets. The objective of this multiple case study was to explore leadership strategies local retail business leaders used to lead a global workforce. The target population included 3 local retail business leaders from Minnesota who had 6 to 8 years of global leadership experience. The composite conceptual framework that grounded this study was leadership and transformational leadership. Data were collected from semistructured, face-to-face interviews and organizational documents. Member checking was used to ensure trustworthiness of findings. The data analysis followed Yin’s 5-phase process: compiling, disassembling, reassembling, interpreting, and concluding. Three themes emerged from the data analysis: cross-cultural awareness, cross-cultural challenges and competence, and cross-cultural leadership strategies. The findings from the study might contribute to positive social change by encouraging business leaders to explore business opportunities locally and globally, resulting in an understanding of cross-cultural differences, enhanced quality of cross-cultural work environments, increased job creation, and improved living standards for communities’ citizens.

Nowadays, in times of maintaining economic contacts with the world market there is an increasing need to understand each other through cross-cultural communication. The effect of culture on international businessmen ventures is multifaceted. Cultural differences deeply affects market behavior. International marketers, therefore, need to be as familiar as possible with the cultural traits of any country they want to do business with. These differences require international businessmen to have good analytical abilities and sound business acumen to make viable decisions and operate successfully. Practically all business decisions are culture-bound.

Wismer, Lacey Elaine. "British American football : national identity, cultural specificity and globalization." Thesis, Brunel University, 2011. http://bura.brunel.ac.uk/handle/2438/6026.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis explores the hybridity and distinctiveness of British American football. Sports have socio-historical links to specific nation-states, thus encoding them with culturally specific values. Despite a movement towards cultural convergence, especially of popular culture, aspects of sport have remained resistant to dominant globalization trends. My thesis reveals that the globalization of American football to Britain has been a process which makes concessions to the local, while still retaining many of its global characteristics. Through an ethnographic study of one team, I spent an entire season becoming an „insider‟ and understanding the British American football culture from the perspective of the participants themselves. Analysis of data collected through participant observation and interviews revealed a number of themes which defined British American football as a hybrid and distinctive sport. First, that British American football was distinctive within the domestic British sports space because of its unique combination of American characteristics. Second, that „glocalization‟ influences the structuring of British American football under the amateur code, in order for the sport to better fit within the British sporting habitus. Finally, that the two branches of American football in Britain, the NFL and the British grassroots, were found to be involved in a disparate relationship which involved each branch concentrating on their own separate agendas for the sport. In conclusion, the American football played in Britain is British American football and this study importantly demonstrates that while a sport can retain its roots in terms of its physical appearance and playing structure, in order for it to infiltrate a foreign sports space, concessions must be made to the local sporting culture. The single most important thread that ran throughout this thesis was that American football could, and has, taken on multiple meanings, which were dependent upon the national context in which it was being played. It emphasizes the idea of globalization as glocalization; that the local is important in the global aspirations of the sport of American football. British American football has placed a uniquely British stamp on an otherwise purely American pastime.

Abstract:
During the 1980s and 1990s, the world witnessed a radical change in which globalization diminished the power of the nation-state and shifted that impetus to a certain number of “Global Cities.” London, New York and Tokyo appeared to be the first of these cities and they acted as the heart of the new commercial and financial geography. In order to further strengthen their status, these cities organized transnational cultural events such as fairs, festivals and biennials.  Those events have been assumed as a driving force behind other political, economic and financial activities in the era of globalization. Since the 1980s, Istanbul has emerged as a candidate for a new global city at the eastern frontier of Europe. Thus, with the encouragement of the government, the private sector has begun to organize several large-scale cultural events in order to reshape the city as a global city and re-present the nation with a more European outlook. This is in keeping with the desire to facilitate Turkey’s EU accession process and attract global commercial activities. The Istanbul Biennial is one of the most important of these cultural initiatives. Thus, this research will scrutinize the Istanbul Biennial within this framework. The main premise will be: “The organization of the Istanbul Biennial aims to attract global financial activities, enable the political aspirations of the city and therefore transform the city into a global one.”

Abstract:
Globalization, as the form of existence of a consumer community recommended by Western culture, besides tangible material benefits intended for new members of the community, is fraught with existential dangers for the existence of distinctive cultures. The intensive processes of globalization, which include almost all states of the modern world, are characterized by a specific dialogue between the global culture and the cultures of traditional communities. They are forced to respond to every globalization challenge in order to preserve the integrity of the cultural core. The Chinese continental society successfully solves this problem by referring to the texts of Confucian culture, which are adapted to the requirements of the time and updated to the new specifics of Chinese everyday life.

Abstract:
The article deals with the mental-existential relationship between ethnoculture, national identity and media culture as a necessary factor for their preservation, transformation, on the example of national original algorithms, matrix models, taking into account global tendencies and Ukrainian archetypal-specific features in Ukraine. the media actively serve the domestic oligarchs in their information-virtual and real wars among themselves and the same expansive alien humanitarian acts by curtailing ethno-cultural programs-projects on national radio, on television, in the press, or offering the recipient instead of a pop pointer, without even communicating to the audience the information stipulated in the media laws − information support-protection-development of ethno-culture national product in the domestic and foreign/diaspora mass media, the support of ethnoculture by NGOs and the state institutions themselves. In the context of the study of the cultural national socio-humanitarian space, the article diagnoses and predicts the model of creating and preserving in it the dynamic equilibrium of the ethno-cultural space, in which the nation must remember the struggle for access to information and its primary sources both as an individual and the state as a whole, culture the transfer of information, which in the process of globalization is becoming a paramount commodity, an egregore, and in the post-traumatic, interrupted-compensatory cultural-information space close rehabilitation mechanisms for national identity to become a real factor in strengthening the state − and vice versa in the context of adequate laws («Law about press and other mass media», Law «About printed media (press) in Ukraine», Law «About Information», «Law about Languages», etc.) and their actual effect in creating motivational mechanisms for preserving/protecting the Ukrainian language, as one of the main identifiers of national identity, information support for its expansion as labels cultural and geostrategic areas.
