Abstract:
While genuine apologies have been widely studied across various cultural and linguistic contexts, ostensible apologies—those used not to express sincere regret but to maintain social harmony—remain underexplored. These speech acts can lead to misinterpretations and communication challenges, particularly in Persian-American interactions, where cultural expectations around politeness differ significantly. In Persian, ostensible apologies are deeply embedded in the cultural practice of ta’ārof, influencing how politeness and social hierarchy are negotiated. Despite their prevalence, Persian osten

This article examines the significance of the causes and effects of pragmatic issues in the translation process. The article emphasizes the necessity of considering the contextual aspects of language in translation, that is, understanding the target audience of the speech and the cultural context. Pragmatic issues generally express the interconnection between language units and culture, which directly influences the translator’s decision-making. The article examines how these issues are expressed in translation and the role they play in communication. In addition, it also discusses the ambigui

Despite fierce criticisms, ‘rural’ and ‘urban’ still constitute powerful narratives around which our society is structured. The ‘formal reality’, however, frequently disregards the cultural nature of these concepts, elevating them to the role of objective spaces apt to serve as acceptable guiding perspectives. While the analytical inadequacy of rural-urban ideations is well-documented, the phenomenon of formal-cultural conflation remains much less explored.
