Abstract:
Purpose – The rise of digital learning and the prevalence of affordable devices are convenient for young adults who are accustomed to using their digital devices for almost everything such as communication, collaboration, and accessing multiple sources of information for solutions. However, the lack of ability to self-regulate learning processes has led to poor learning performance among undergraduates. Therefore, this study examined the effects of self-regulated learning strategies (SRLS) on learning performance among Malaysian IT undergraduates. Methodology – A sample of IT undergraduates from private higher education institutions in Malaysia participated in the study. Quantitative data from a total of 563 respondents was collected through questionnaire surveys and analysed using PLS-SEM. The common method variance was utilized in this paper. Findings – The findings of this study constitute essential results that three out of four SRLS domains (cognitive engagement, resource management, and motivational beliefs) positively influenced the students’ perception of learning performance. Significance – This study provides insight into the best SRLS to excel in digital learning for deeper learning particularly in the Malaysian context. Implications of the findings on higher education institutions as well as recommendations for future research are discussed. Keywords: Self-regulated learning strategies, digital learning, higher education, learning performance, subjective learning outcomes.

Abstract:
This essay analyzes masculinity as an ecclesial strategy for maintaining cultural and political power. It begins by examining the masculine theology promoted by the German Christian Movement that gave religious justification for Nazism’s violence against those who did not conform to their masculine norms. Drawing on conceptions of ‘legitimation crisis’ and masculinities studies, it argues that the masculine theology of the German Christians, predicated on a desire for social and political relevancy, shares a similar logic with current American evangelical masculinity. In conclusion, it turns to Dietrich Bonhoeffer for resources of ecclesial resistance to these masculine temptations for cultural relevancy and political power.

Abstract:
Many translation scholars have proposed various approaches when dealing with culture-specific items. It shows that to achieve a good quality and successful translation work, suitable and functional translation approach should be applied by the translator. Borrowing is one of the approaches applied in various texts’ genre such as sacred text which has culture-specific items. It becomes frequently used in translating word with no equivalent in target language. However, it resulted in some of translations which have applied this kind of approach did not supply adequate meaning and fallout the irrelevant text towards readership. The reason is that borrowing approach stands alone without providing compensation strategies. Therefore, this present article investigates the functionality of borrowing approach in translating Qur’an non-existent cultural elements in Malay culture. This study is qualitative, and the data are analysed descriptively using document analysis by adopting Relevance Theory initiated by Sperber and Wilson (1986). It is suggested that the relevancy of translated text can be achieved not only through borrowing as an approach, but at the same time providing adequate meaning by means of compensation strategies. Thus, the study assumes that the less the effort processing is produced to understand the meaning, the higher the contextual effect of meaning is sufficiently provided. On the other hand, if the effort processing is less produced and the contextual effect is highly provided, the optimum relevancy of translated text can be achieved. It is concluded that the combination of borrowing approach and compensation strategies can help better understanding the meaning of non-existent religious cultural items in Malay culture.

Abstract:
We argue that using the aggregate of the Euclidian distance of different dimensions of culture to measure the impact of culture on bilateral trade patterns as is conventional in the literature is flawed. Using recent innovations in gravity model estimations and adopting the GLOBE team dimensions of culture, we confirm that the aggregate measure of culture imposes arbitrary functional forms, wrongly assumes symmetry in the effect of culture on bilateral trade, generalizes the effect of culture on trade and lacks policy relevancy. Our novel approach also allows us to determine which aspects of culture promote trade and which aspects do not.

Abstract:
The present study describes a culturally relevant approach to introductory psychology textbook selection for students attending a historically Black college/university (HBCU). The following multistage procedure was used: (1) a survey of HBCU psychology departments was conducted to ascertain how they selected their introductory psychology textbooks; (2) a review of the literature on introductory psychology textbook selection was performed to identify criteria; and (3) rating criteria were developed; used in the actual selection of a textbook for HBCU students; and were subjected to psychometric analysis. The psychometric analyses of 240 ratings (10 criteria X 4 raters X 6 books) involved both reliability assessment of the scale with the selection criteria as items and interrater reliability in evaluating introductory psychology textbooks. The survey of HBCU faculty yielded no consensus or systematic process from the respondents. Both internal consistency reliability and agreement among faculty were adequate on the rating instrument for the total scores and subscale scores of Quality of Learning Resources and Learning and Comprehension. However, the subscale scores for Cultural Relevance yielded mixed results by type of reliability: Interrater agreement was adequate but internal consistency reliability was poor. Future research using multiple methodologies must address the relevancy of cultural diversity for introductory psychology courses

This study addresses the need for a missiological Christology informed by the sociohistorical and cultural context of Mexican-Americans. The author analyzes the contribution and relevancy of Christologies elaborated around the “Galilean identity” of Jesus, but argues that from an evangelical perspective, Jesus' Galilean identity does not adequately interpret the meaning of the passion and vindication of Christ. This study demonstrates that a Christology developed around the “Rejected Stone” passages found in the New Testament relates the ministry and passion of Jesus Christ in a contextually relevant way to Mexican-Americans. The author also explores the missiological implications of the proposed Christology.

Abstract:
With the adoption of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) by much of the United States, local school districts are encouraged to develop CCSS-aligned curricula that are culturally relevant for an area’s students. However, addressing cultural relevancy within communities where rural and urban cultures intersect requires a conceptualization of a rurban space that lies between rural and urban places and processes. The results of document analysis, surveys, interviews, and generational narratives conducted in a rurban county in a southeastern U.S. state indicate a need for a critical rurban pedagogy that merges a critical pedagogy of place with local values and the complexities of rurban culture to serve as a foundation from which to build culturally relevant curricula.

In this lecture, the writer calls the attention of Canadian psychiatrists to the unparalleled opportunities the national policy of multiculturalism has for clinical and research activities. Using illustrations from three important fields in psychiatry — epidemiology, psychopharmacology and psychotherapy, he points out the roles socio-cultural factors play in generating ethnic differences which deserve to be given serious scientific attention for both the understanding of causative factors and the treatment of mental disorders. He emphasizes that medical universalism and ethnocentricism have no place in Canadian psychiatry, and that the next phase of Canadian psychiatry should focus on cultural relevancy based on cultural relativism and equal participation of all cultures and ethnic groups.

This paper addresses the development of construction-specific modal uses of hao ‘good’ in Mandarin discourse. My focus is the cultural relevancy of the pathway of change: an expression of value judgment gives rise to deontic modality in recurring discourse contexts. Mandarin is contrasted with Germanic languages with regard to lexical sources of change towards deontic modals. It is suggested that social interdependence of individuals and the cultural preference of collective agency are the driving forces behind the change of the Mandarin hao constructions as opposed to personal agency and autonomy which underlies the semantic development in Germanic.

Abstract:
The article analyses functioning of winged expressions in contemporary texts falling into different types of discourse. Despite coexistence of different terms (winged unit, winged expression, intertexteme, precedent text, text reminiscence, eptonym, eptologism, logoepisteme, commemorate, etc.), the essence of the linguistic units described by these terms comes down to the main characteristics thereof - direct dependence on the source, reproducibility and recognisability thereof. The article reviews development stages of the winged unit study term system as part of the winged unit study, names scholars who have significantly contributed to the development of this field. It shows that despite the terminology divergence and the early days of the winged unit study metalanguage, this study as part of phraseology has assumed a stable position both in the Russian and European linguistics owing to the winged unit study functional potential realisation in different text styles and genres. The authors define research directions related to the winged unit study functional potential. As part of the study there were reviewed demotivators where the winged units В России две беды - дураки и дороги (Russia has two problems: pinheads and roads) (N.V. Gogol) and Рождённый ползать - летать не может (He who was born to slither cannot fly) (M. Gorky) are used in the verbal part and acquire the text forming meaning. There have been studied the neologisms Я - Шарли (Je suis Charlie) - Я не Шарли (I am not Charlie), Крым наш (Crimea is ours), вежливые люди (the polite people) that appeared owing to the modern cultural context. The article uncovers the need for the creation of the pragmatically loaded dictionary ‘Classics of Russian Literature Mirrored by Winged Expressions’. The relevancy of the study undertaken is stemming from the review of winged expressions in modern different genre texts.

Abstract:
This paper explores the genre of flexible architecture - buildings that are intended to respond to changing situations in their use, operation, or location. This is architecture that adapts rather than stagnates; responds to change rather than rejects it; is motive rather than static. It is a design form that is by its essence cross-disciplinary and multi-functional and consequently, is frequently innovative and expressive of contemporary design issues. By revealing its basis and the factors that are determining its development, the value and relevancy of flexible architecture to contemporary problems associated with technological, social and economic change can be revealed. The characteristics of flexible architecture are explored by examining the design decisions that lead to culturally responsive buildings. It examines the underlying factors that generate a sense of place and why traditional and historic building patterns have been successful in creating genuinely adaptable architecture. It relates the characteristics of flexible architecture to Open Building principles and examines the effect that such design can have within the different levels in the built environment. The paper focuses special attention on contemporary architecture by examining the recent work of the Japanese architect Toyo Ito, in particular his recently completed Matsumoto Performing Arts Centre, Nagano Prefecture, Japan. Based on conversation with the designer and first-hand study of the building, the specific factors that make this new design a valuable resource in the search for flexible architecture strategies are explored. This paper expands on the author's previous research into the foundation areas of this topic, in particular the genre of portable architecture, the impact of technology on the development of architectural form, and the development of experimental and innovative house design in the twentieth century. Its subject is expanded in his forthcoming book Flexible: Architecture That Responds to Change to be published by Laurence King, London, in 2006.

With the collapse of socialism in Eastern Europe and Soviet Russia, literary analyses of texts written in the atmosphere of the Communist-led cultural movement may seem to lose currency; to argue for the relevancy at the close of the 20th century may seem irrelevant to postmodern aesthetics. Likewise, as Barbara Foley suggests, reading proletarian texts with their self-conscious critiques of class struggle and their formulaic and didactic plots offers little to audiences who are used to postmodern experimentation and “confessional” poetics (viii).

Abstract:
This paper investigates the unique educational relevancy of Walter Benjamin’s radio broadcasts. While much has been written about Benjamin’s approach to both children’s literature and children’s theatre, his own pedagogical practice as a radio pedagogue remains largely marginalized in these discussions. In order to address this gap in the literature, I focus on the implications of shifting from the largely visual world of children (celebrated in color illustrations) to the auditory world of radio. Through a careful reading of the radio scripts, I argue that a perceptual alteration unique to the sonic medium of radio jumpstarts historical thinking in children. The following pedagogical principles which I extract from the radio broadcasts support and enhance this mode of historical materialist education. In conclusion, the article argues for the ongoing relevancy of Benjamin for thinking through the pedagogical implications of new information technologies within a postmodern era such as podcasts.

Abstract:
Objective: To review the literature regarding the most sustainable and culturally appropriate ways in which to implement eye health care programs within remote Aboriginal communities in Australia from a primary health care perspective. Data sources: The search included letters, editorials and papers (published and unpublished) from January 1955 to April 2006. Study selection: The search revealed 1 106 758 papers, books and other related material. The relevancy of this material was determined by abstract and 378 relevant articles were reviewed in their entirety. After reading the relevant articles and the interview transcripts the themes that emerged from each source were extracted. Conclusions: The ten areas to consider include: clinical practice and access, sustainability, regional-based programs, information technology systems, health worker training, self-determination, cultural and language barriers, funding body responsibilities, embedding specialist programs in primary care services, and other considerations. Further research needs to be undertaken within Aboriginal communities in the area of primary eye health care and barriers to the acceptance of treatment. This may be undertaken using more interactive research methods such as cooperative and narrative inquiry.

The Review of Black Political Economy has been a leader on issues of race and economics, politics, sociology and area studies. After half a century of shaping minds, critical ideas and arguments, the time has come to look back and ask the editors of the Review what they saw when they were at the helm, and what they see ahead. While all their views are different, common themes emerged: 1. The need to embrace new technologies, 2. Making the Review the first pick for top scholars, 3. Relevancy in the post-civil rights era, and 4. Finance for the 21st century.

Abstract:
Abstract In 1772, the Moravian Protestant Georg Pilder (1716‒1793) finished his work on an Arabic-German-Italian dictionary with the title Arabisches Lexicon. This dictionary, which has so far escaped scholarly attention and survives in a single manuscript copy, represents the earliest comprehensive Arabic-German lexicographic work known to scholarship. Based primarily on Pilder’s experiences as a missionary in Cairo, it includes valuable material on diglossia and everyday language use in 18th-century Cairo. The article discusses Pilder’s biography against the background of Moravian activities in the Middle East, sheds light on when, why and based on which materials he composed his dictionary and studies how Pilder’s authorial intentions are reflected in the work’s content and structure. It moreover addresses the question of the dictionary’s relevancy in the contexts of missionary history, the history of Arabic Studies and contemporary linguistic research.

Abstract:
For most contemporary theorists, the death of postmodern thought as a theoretical impulse and critical divide has become a given. Yet, since the end of the 1990s a variety of important strands of social and political thought—queer theory, feminism, and postcolonialism to name but a few—have taken up and advanced poststructuralist emphases on language and discourse that are derivative of postmodern theory. In this context, the article considers two of the most central and original postmodern thinkers, Jean-François Lyotard and Jean Baudrillard, to illustrate the political entanglements of postmodern and liberal thought. Through this investigation the article illuminates the way these authors’ works on the political potencies of language raise important questions for the relevancy of poststructuralist political thought for contemporary critical thinking in the context of the global expanse of neoliberal capital. The article initiates an original dialogue between two poststructuralist authors and raises this to a second engagement with current debates over the crises of critical thought and, by extension, carries contemporary relevance as well.

Abstract:
The formation and maintenance of a collective memory depends the psychological efficacy of societal practices. This efficacy builds on the strengths and weakness of human memory. We view the articles in this special issue through a psychological lens in order to explore how the efficacy of the actions of the distinctive linguistic communities in Belgium have preserved some aspects of their past and left other aspects forgotten. We highlight four ways the psychology of individual memory can bear on the formation and maintenance of collective memories: the efficiency of actions, the presence of inaction, the relevancy of the personal past, and ‘presentism’.

Abstract:
Practicing cultural geography in a web-based digital medium has led to the possibility of resurrecting early-twentieth-century ideas about the primacy of space in organizing information. In this article I discuss the philosophical underpinnings that drove the creation of my digital monograph Enchanting the Desert . Different than a spatial narrative that associates data points with their attendant cartographic representations, I use space—and specifically landscape—to order my information. Spatial proximity bundles and orders items on its own, a priori giving meaning to things existing next to one another in a landscape. Using space as a way to forge topical relevancy appears to be an uncommon approach, but in fact is paramount for a more productive and holistic ecological practice. The digital medium of the interactive web application makes this spatial epistemology possible.

As an important personality characteristic, affect can influence the organizational behavior and individual performance [1,2,, and affect study has obtained more and more attention in the field of organizational behavior and personality psychology. Positive affect (PA) and negative affect (NA) are considered as the basic structural dimensions of self-report affect experience and have been confirmed by trans-cultural studies[4,5,. The so-called PA is the tendency of experiencing happy of an individual, while NA is the tendency of experiencing unhappy of an individual[. Scholars have designed different schedules to measure PA and NA and study relationship between them, and have certified the dualistic structure of PA/NA, but they are mutually independent two dimensions, thus there still exists more or less relevancy and no unanimous viewpoint is formed[8,.

Abstract:
This qualitative study examines US Chinese older adults’ views on the perceived effectiveness, challenges, and cultural adaptations of elder abuse interventions to psychological distress in the Chinese community in Chicago. A community-based participatory research approach was implemented to partner with the Chinese community. A total of 37 community-dwelling Chinese older adults (age 60+) participated in focus group discussions. Data analysis was based on grounded theory framework. Our findings suggest that older adults perceived social support, empowerment, and community-based interventions design as most effective to promote psychological well-being of victims. The perceived preferences were similar between elder abuse victims and non-victims. Strategies to culturally adapt evidence-based interventions were proposed with respect to nurturing filial piety values, familial integrations, and increased independence. Research and educational outreach initiatives were also discussed. This study has wide policy and practice implications for designing and deploying interventions to reduce psychological distress with respect to elder abuse outcome. Cultural relevancy of health interventions is important in the context of the Chinese communities. Collective federal, state, and community efforts are needed to support the culturally appropriate design and implementation of interventions suitable for the needs of the Chinese older adults.

Abstract:
Abstract Culturally celebratory programming exceeds cultural relevancy, engaging participants in celebration-making and culture-creating. African Americans aged 55+ in the Sharing History through Active Reminiscence and Photo-imagery (SHARP) study celebrate their heritage in gentrifying neighborhoods through walking-reminiscence sessions; they create culture through discussing ideas, beliefs, norms, values, and shared experiences of the past while considering these aspects within presently changing cultural dynamics. The SHARP study’s narrative approach supports cognitively healthy behaviors and community priorities of cultural preservation in response to marginalization. The SHARP smartphone application houses 72 themed walking routes in Portland, Oregon’s historically Black neighborhoods. One-mile routes with GPS-triggered historical neighborhood images prompt conversational reminiscence among walking triads. Recorded narratives are organized in a process called storytabling and thematically coded. Selections referencing cognitively healthy behaviors are flagged for pairing with online brain health content tested by 12 African Americans aged 55+. Historical images and narratives anchor educational content to relatable life experiences, framing healthy aging in a culturally celebratory, neighborhood context to improve applicability. The online resource, routes, and recorded narratives are community deliverables. Currently, 254 walking narratives from 2016-2018 walkers (n=40; 8 with mild cognitive impairment) have been transcribed and 60 analyzed. Walkers found image prompts and walking within triads of similar sociocultural backgrounds as highly motivating, healthy ways of addressing change. Content testers found narratives lent depth, meaning, and a sense of cultural resilience to educational content. Narrative approaches situate cognitive health in participant-driven terms and experiences, informing brain health best practices for marginalized and minority populations.

Abstract:
This study assesses performance of Amaltari Bufferzone Community Home stay that received best homestay award in 2017. For the survey study, the data collected from 236 sample respondents were theorized based on social capital, ecotourism, asset-based community development and sustainability approach that are then supported by the empirical findings. An index was developed to describe the overall performance of the homestay by compositing five thematic indexes: relevancy, efficiency, effectiveness, impact, sustainability. The index value 92.65 from the range of minimum 48 and maximum 240 for the overall performance provides the strong quantitative evidence to answer the question “why did Amaltari receive the best award among”. The multiple regression model (R-square value 0.99) for overall performance also proves that independent variables describe the dependent variables by 99 percent. Among the independent variables relevancy and effectiveness indexes are more likely to describe dependent variable- theoverall performance index. The evidence shows that Amaltari hemostat has performed well due to the technical/financial supports of WWF, proper mobilization/utilization of conservation fund and homestay community fund, strong social capital, and quality leadership that has transforming the livelihoods of Tharu, Bote and Mushar indigenous people. However, they have some concerns like waste management in bufferzone areas, reviving the cultural organizations for preserving and transmitting culture from generation to generation, minimizing the modernization and demonstrative effects due to the excessive flow of the tourists and upgrading road connectivity.Hence, the local government, homestay and bufferzone users committee should collectively implement integrated tourism development programs for addressing such concerns.
