MUSCOLINO, MARCO. "LA "RIVISTA DEL CINEMATOGRAFO": UNA STORIA CULTURALE, 1928-2008." Doctoral thesis, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, 2009. http://hdl.handle.net/10280/630.
Full textThe «Rivista del Cinematografo» is the most ancient magazine in the Italian history of cinema. Published before 1928, in 2008 it celebrated its 80th anniversary. In spite of this long-lived presence in Italian publishing, the «Rivista del Cinematografo» represents a history left out in social discourses. This research considers instead the «Rivista del Cinematografo» as a cultural history that can illuminate the historical processes of the Italian cinema with particular – but not exclusive – reference to their relationships with the catholic culture. It could be said that the history of the «Rivista del Cinematografo» is a long duration microhistory. This definition can appear conflicting because it puts two categories that come from two different historical traditions near to each other: the microhistory and the long duration. But this research intends to explore a new historical perspective – the ‘so called’ cultural history – with the aim of learning from a debate which has developed enormously in recent years and analysing the consequences that this debate also has on the historical practice in the field of cinema.
DANESI, SANDRO. "IL TURISMO CULTURALE. APPROCCI, INVESTIMENTI E PROPOSTE." Doctoral thesis, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, 2014. http://hdl.handle.net/10280/3677.
Full textThis PhD Thesis investigates the activities aimed to promote cultural heritage and intangible assets that constitute a resource of our country, formally very protected, but still little valorized. The mission is to delineate urban and territorial policies and projects, starting from the recognition of cultural heritage value by local communities, and delineate tools for management and promotion supporting feasible and shared choices. Actions to be undertaken will concern many cultural tourism types integrated with social and economic activities, because the belief is that all of this will ensure “sustainable” development. This is possible through a balance between resident and touristic population, and through public and private investment channels in many sectors of economic activity. The first part of the Thesis investigates the tourism’s dynamics, culture and cultural heritage’s meaning. This part inquires approaches aimed to analyze cultural phenomena, and it ends with developing a matrix with associated indicators and research’s range, to submit to economic stakeholders to investigate potentiality and critical aspects of Italian tourism. The second part of Thesis describes the importance of some present and past characters who have contributed to improve quality of life, through interventions in cultural and in social demand’s areas. In this part it has been refined the range of investigation and the matrix’s indicators, and the matrix has been given to various groups of stakeholders, with the aim to explore the differences in terms of approaches and viewpoints of private and public operators. The third, and the last, part of the Thesis tries to draw a procedure’s proposal to program and valorize the local touristic attractors, identifying in each of them the cultural component, and how they interact with other aspects of the territory, focusing on lesser-known places of Italian territory.

Doctoral thesis, Alma Mater Studiorum - Università di Bologna, 2013. http://amsdottorato.unibo.it/5971/.
Full textGeographical Indications (GIs) plays an important role in economic growth and development in the rural area. Particularly in the area where the geographical characteristics and cultures highly contributes to a given product quality. This research aims to explore the possibility to evaluate the value of the region known as Vale do Paraíba Fluminense - Brazil or "Vale do Café" and to highlight the potential of coffee as a high quality product with environmental friendly and social responsibility features. The coffee from this area is a cultural heritage that may provide a valuable economic resource for the area. The first phase of the research was carried out by using secondary data and in the second phase we applied Participatory Methodology according to the FAO using on-line questionnaires to identify the connection among the origin area, the local products and the possibility to use its natural resource for the development. For qualitative analysis, we interviewed the representatives of the different categories of stakeholders to gain the context of the historical context of the region. Finally, we conducted a quantitative survey with coffee consumers using the questionnaire. The finding indicates that the territory could reintroduce a historical café as a symbol of wealth and decadence of that region and as an element of local economic potentials, exploiting the immaterial part of agricultural history, reintroducing the product in the local memory, drawing the population to get close to their history, particularly to raise their awareness of the value of the geographical name "Vale do Paraiba Fluminense" or "Vale do Café" affiliated to the history of the region, and the coffee product that aims to revive favor of the territory, relocating the geographical name.

Full textThis PhD dissertation deals with intangible cultural heritage and museums. An increasing interest in intangible heritage has been arising in the world in these last years, especially since 2003, when UNESCO drew up the Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage. A detailed historical review shows the steps which brought to this attainment; a formal and theoretical parallelism between intangible heritage and contemporary art is outlined too. A study on the very recent history of museums allows to underline the difficulties museum encounters in collecting intangible heritage. It’s possible to think about new museological solutions thanks to the contribution of aesthetics: the thought of phenomenology helps in finding ways to respect the collection and to involve the publics. The dissertation also deals with the contemporary architecture of museums, with museum education and with the use of new technologies in museums: some uses are bad, others are good and useful for the communication of intangible cultural heritage.

Full textMy research has the purpose of tracing the experience of Crescimbeni, first General Master of the Arcadia Academy, and toreconstruct his biographical and cultural profile through the analysis of different aspects of his intellectual activity (his job asArcadia Master, author, historian and Italian literature critic) and through his relationships with the social and political context of thetime, the court of Pope Clemence XI, to evaluate the impact and cultural influence of Arcadia in history and thought of XVIIIcentury. The first chapter focuses on the biography of the author and describes the founding moment of his intellectual experience: thebirth of the Arcadia Academy in 1690, also considering the social context of Rome in the end of the XVII century. The second chapter is about the lyric production of Crescimbeni: thanks to the manuscripts and to printed texts of the author, thepoetry of Crescimbeni with his models, his masters and specific theme was framed. Then, chapters 3 and 4 analyze the activity of the General Master of Crescimbeni, throughout the study of the manuscriptsconserved in the Archives of the Angelic and Apostolic Vatican Library of Rome. Containing numerous interventions ofCrescimbeni on the text of other Arcadian poets, the papers of the Angelic Library are important because they allow to look at hisactivity as an editor. On the other hand, the documents of the Vatican Library, especially epistolary material, clarify the nature ofsome social relationships of Crescimbeni within his contemporary society and the so called “Lettres Society”.To conclude, last chapter speaks about the activity of critic and historian of Crescimbeni. The thesis also contains the edition ofmany unpublished texts of the Arcadia Master

Full textThis thesis develops around the activities and choices of Pietro Moscati and Giovanni Scopoli, respectively first and second General Director of Education, on the relentless activities of Michele Araldi as first secretary of the National Institute, as well as on the political and cultural ideas of Giovanni Paradisi, member of the Study Commission in 1802 and president of the Royal Institute in 1810. These people are analyzed in the context of the cultural organization created by the French Government during the years of the Republic and Kingdom of Italy (1802-1814), with a foreword on the first discussions about public education and cultural institutions in the three years of democracy (1796-1799). The relationship between power and culture is analyzed through the study of cultural officials of the time, who offer a new perspective on cultural policy in Napoleonic Italy. This thesis outlines the biography of those officials and their views on the reforms of Education, on schooling and on the funding of the arts and scientific progress. This research aims at revealing the actual people, their ideas of cultural policy and their role as mediators between the Napoleonic government and the Italian intelligentsia

Full textThe thesis investigates the culture of the Cretan Jews in the XIV-XVI centuries and concentrates on how the Sephardi and Ashkenazi immigrants who began to settle on the island around mid-XIV century contributed in shaping a shared culture. The thesis is based both on the administrative and notarial documents preserved in the State Archive in Venice and on the Hebrew manuscripts produced by Candiote Jews or brought there by the new settlers. The first chapter offers a reconnaissance of the Jewish community of Candia in the early XVI century and brings new information on the geography of the zudeca, its administration, its social composition, the amount of its population, and the biography of its main leader at the time: Elijah Capsali (d. 1550). The third chapter illustrates some of the peculiarities that the Candiote synagogal liturgy developed under the influence of Ashkenazi settlers. The fourth chapter deals with two lists of books found in a manuscript preserved in the University Library of Bologna, and shows how they can be viewed as a testimony of the role played by Catalonian immigrants in the spread of Sephardi medical lore among Candiote Jews. The fifth chapter is dedicated to Mosheh ben Judah Galiano, a physician, philosopher and astronomer who settled in Candia in the late ’20s of the Sixteenth century and left the island on 1543. The sixth chapter offers an examination of the plague that struck Candia in 1592 and its impact on the Jewish community.

Full textThe crucial factor in the development of English over the last few centuries is its role in the world arena. English has been brought into contact with new environments and languages, and, as a result, has developed into new directions and into new varieties. In today’s China there is an astounding desire to learn English, especially among the educated and the people living in cities, and to use it as a means of communication outside the national borders. This growth in the number of people, who learn and speak English, seems to be contributing to a distinctive variety. The present research aims at contributing to this field of study by analyzing the use and occurrences of the Saxon genitive, of-constructions, and other noun modification structures within this emerging variety of English and the framework of its sociolinguistic features.

Full textThrough an in-depth field study, this thesis provides a sociological analysis of photography in Italy and its partial artistic legitimation. Taking into account both the historical development of the field of art photography in Italy and its contemporary condition, the study focuses on the processes through which different actors and institutions promote the legitimacy and status of photography as art. Combining the sociology of art and cultural processes to organisation studies, the study develops an interpretative framework that spells out the relationship between legitimation, social categorisation and cultural evaluation processes. Adopting the Constructivist Grounded Theory methodology, the research collects and analyses different sources: face-to-face interviews with photographers, critics, historians, curators, gallery owners, museum directors and Italian collectors; ethnographic notes collected during participant observation of various art and photography events, such as festivals, fairs, presentations, museum visits and gallery openings; auction data (collected from 2009 to 2020) and extant market analyses; secondary textual data, such as history and critical works on Italian photography, archival records and press releases. The results show that photography in Italy is still struggling to secure its status as a legitimate art form due to historical processes and socio-economic dynamics that reinforce the symbolic boundary between the professional world of photography and the legitimate world of contemporary art. Compared to other European countries, the field of artistic photography emerged late, only at the end of the 1970s, following the emergence of three favourable opportunity spaces, notably the crisis of Italian photojournalism. As a result, members of the field of artistic photography developed strategies of resource mobilisation and theorisation of a legitimising ideology that are still ongoing today. In addition, the contribution theorises three processes of legitimation which, acting in combination with each other, establish the conditions for the complete legitimation of photography as art: differentiation, emulation and sublimation. These processes, discussed in the light of empirical experiences of both full and partial legitimation, show that the field of photography occupies a position of "segregated inclusion" within art institutions, as a contested identification of photography as art still persists.

Full textThe first part of this work investigates the activity of the Charles Péguy Cultural Center in Milan from its foundation in 1964 to the 1968 protests. That center was established by some young people at the end of their university path that during the Fifties and the Sixties participated to Gioventù Studentesca. In 1966 some of the members of the center Charles Péguy begun a publishing house called Jaca Book to whom is dedicated the second part of the thesis. Through the analysis of the cultural activity of Péguy Cultural Center and the articles published by its members on some periodicals this work retraces the approach they had to some of the most problematic themes of the years that prepared the Sixty-eight as the relationship with the communists, the interpretation of the Vatican II and the reception of the neo-marxist culture. Inspecting the Jaca Book catalog was possible to analyze the evolution of that themes during the years of the student protests until 1975 and their progressive development in politics, economics and theology.

Full textThe dissertation is an attempt to reconstruct ethnic minority publishing media logic through an ethnographic approach. The first part is a depiction of the media, cultural, institutional scenario, where publishing practices unfold, with a specific focus on meaningful transformations provoked by both global dynamics and international migrations. The second part is a reconstruction of the debate upon ethnic media culture, or rather, an analysis of the most salient approaches and a meta-theoretical examination of the most recurring methodologies. The third part provides an insight on the process of framing with relation to the journalism, and the possibility to offer a definition of the social situation and to produce an enlargement of the concept of citizenship. The fourth part is a presentation of the ethnographic results of a research upon a sample compounded by six newsroom. Qualitative outcomes reveals a huge range of productive cultures, in which both professionalism and ethnicity are negotiated in base of the specific features of each organization. Nevertheless, ethnic minority media culture represents a privileged viewpoint from where to observe the complex dynamics affecting the contemporary mediascape in the convergence era.

Full textThis paper aims to discuss the difficulties involved in the preservation of the an intangible cultural heritage: the Dance. We shall begin from an aesthetic and philosophical premise as we investigate the problems that arise with an art form whose virtual essence lives in the ephemeral. However, this quality and the different perception of time and space that the dance create, that allows this art form to adapt to the fluidity of the 21st century - an era encumbered by dynamic dichotomies. In order to fully understand the importance of preserving this cultural heritage, an entire chapter has been devoted to “intangible cultural heritage legislation” which includes particular reference to dance works and copyright laws. An understanding of this aspect is essential - especially when confronting problems related to exploring and researching within dance archives - a prominent theme in this work. The thesis then moves onward to define the element of dance itself, with particular attention placed on the dancer’s instrument (the body) and the new technology. Only after thoroughly exploring this fundamental aspect, we will then discuss the sensitive issue of dance archive preservation. The preliminary exploration and definition in the thesis then brings us to the main question: How can we preserve and protect dance masterpieces in the digital era, especially with respect to current changes in National museums and archive conservation.Specific examples with regards to dance conservation and its evolution have been hued from selected European Institutions and in particular, those in Italy. One of the overriding concepts throughout this thesis has been to focus on the topic from the dancers point of view and therefore, collaborating with important dance figures such as the French master, Dupuy, has offered invaluable insight. It is the hope of this thesis to lay the ground work of a theoretical basis for an ideal center to study and preserve the evolution of dance in Italy

Full textThe aims of this research are to assess the interdependence of intimate relationships, studying how young adults’ romantic relationship is connected to their parent-child relationship, and to investigate the association between their individuation and the relationship with their mother and father. The literature has show different paths to adulthood, so these aims have been examined by comparing three different countries: Italy, Germany and Sweden, where the transition to adulthood presents different trajectories, in order to test whether the links between the examined constructs can be considered universal. Moreover, in order to better understand how the interdependence of relationships unfolds mixed methods have been used.
