Abstract:

Les images de routes et de rues sont des figures récurrentes du cinéma autobiographique contemporain, généralement structuré autour d’un parcours géographique (retour vers l’espace familial, découverte de lieux liés aux origines, déracinement qui entraîne l’errance, etc.) L’oeuvre de Vincent Dieutre propose notamment une vaste réflexion sur l’état de la culture occidentale à travers une série de récits de voyage : en Hollande et en Italie dans Rome désolée (1995), Bologna Centrale (2004) et Leçons de ténèbres (2000), ou encore en Allemagne avec Mon voyage d’hiver (2003). La complexité de ce réseau européen contraste vivement avec l’univers mythologique des avenues et des autoroutes américaines abordé par de nombreux prédécesseurs de Dieutre au cours des années 1970-1990. Marquée par une dialectique permanente entre lyrisme esthétique et pessimisme culturel, cette vision des rues et des routes d’Europe revisite les fondements mêmes du dispositif propre au film autobiographique : l’espace traversé par le voyageur se révèle le point de rencontre entre l’expérience individuelle, intime, narcissique et la référence plus universelle à une mémoire collective et historique.

Abstract:

Résumé Ce texte propose une lecture de l’oeuvre poétique de Gérald Leblanc à la lumière du concept de village planétaire forgé par Marshall MacLuhan. En observant le mouvement de dérive qui conduit le poète de la ville imaginée jusqu’au village globalisé, via ses déambulations dans les rues de Moncton et ses méditations dans les espaces du quotidien, l’auteur en arrive au constat que la polyphonie des poèmes de Leblanc est liée avant tout à la situation du poète dans l’espace communicationnel nord-américain. Moncton cesse ainsi de s’offrir comme un pur espace urbain pour devenir une réalité concrète, un chapelet de lieux et de visages familiers. Véritable réceptacle des pratiques issues de la contre-culture, l’oeuvre de Leblanc s’avère symptomatique de la condition postmoderne, qui a modifié sensiblement les paramètres régissant la position de l’écrivain dans le champ culturel. Dans cette perspective, il est possible de relire cette oeuvre comme étant l’expression de la mise en place d’une gigantesque machine cybernétique, carburant à la musique, à la voix et aux images visuelles.

Résumé Depuis le début du xxe siècle, les Bretons ont migré en masse vers les États-Unis et le Canada. Certains ont fait fortune dans le domaine de la restauration, notamment en ouvrant des crêperies bretonnes. En se promenant dans les rues de grandes villes comme Montréal ou de plus petites, telles que Québec, l’on peut en croiser quelques-unes dont les propriétaires sont d’origine bretonne. Par le biais de cette communication, je propose d’aller à la rencontre de ces Bretons qui confectionnent des crêpes à 6 000 km de la Bretagne. Qu’ont-ils fait de leurs traditions culinaires et de leur ethnicité au cours du processus de migration? Quelle image de leur culture ont-ils choisi de véhiculer? Qu’est-ce qui expliquerait un tel phénomène de maintien et de renouvellement de leurs traditions? Comment cet élément culturel a-t-il été adapté à la réalité économique? En m’inspirant des enquêtes ethnologiques menées sur les restaurants étrangers à Québec, j’ai privilégié la méthode par observation participante et entretien avec trois propriétaires de crêperies à Québec et à Montréal. J’ai également mangé dans les restaurants concernés afin de prendre note de leurs caractéristiques. Dans cette présentation, j’exposerai d’une part la façon dont cette tradition culinaire s’exprime à travers des lieux, des pratiques et des objets. Autrement dit, je présenterai ce qui fait l’ethnicité des crêperies bretonnes. D’autre part, je soulignerai les divergences et convergences avec les crêperies situées en Bretagne, les métissages réalisés, les représentations véhiculées par les détenteurs de ce patrimoine.

AbstractIn Song-dynasty Kaifeng, empire and emporia existed in a relationship of mutual dependence and mutual competition. The imperial government depended on merchants for the shipment of grain and goods to supply its massive armies and to pay the salaries of its officials; the merchants derived their income directly or indirectly from these government expenditures. The concentration of wealth and goods in the capital generated in turn a culture of sumptuary competition. The contests over space in the streets of the capital, and the competition for the goods that circulated through them, reveal configurations of power that rarely find direct expression in writing.À Kaifeng, capitale des Song du Nord, l’empire et les emporia se trouvaient dans une relation de dépendance mais aussi de compétition. En effet, le gouvernement impérial dépendait des marchands pour le transport des grains et des marchandises avec lesquels il approvisionnait ses armées et payait les traitements de ses fonctionnaires. Réciproquement les marchands tiraient la plupart de leurs revenus des dépenses gouvernementales. La concentration des richesses et des biens dans la capitale entraîna en retour une compétition somptuaire. La concurrence pour l’espace dans les rues métropolitaines et les rivalités pour l’appropriation des biens qui y circulaient révèlent des configurations de pouvoir rarement exprimées de manière explicite dans les textes.

De nos jours, le nom de La Vérendrye figure sur de nombreux monuments commémoratifs, rues, parcs, écoles et bourses d’études prestigieuses tant canadiens qu’américains. Cependant, comme l’indique cet article, la documentation qui porte sur ses voyages et ses interactions turbulentes avec les peuples autochtones est incomplète, puisqu’elle est caractérisée par l’absence d’une analyse des échanges raciaux et de ceux entre hommes et femmes, et par une tradition de déni des faits et de création de mythes par rapport au commerce des esclaves chez les Canadiens français. L’examen soigneux de la participation de La Vérendrye au commerce des esclaves, et des façons que ses relations homme-femme et celles avec les peuples autochtones ont caractérisé sa vie entre 1731 et 1749, la période traitée par la présente étude, met en lumière le fonctionnement de la société coloniale française au Canada pendant la période allant du début du dix-huitième jusqu’au milieu de ce siècle. Comme souligné par cet article, les composantes non catholiques et non blanches faisaient partie intégrante de la société et de la culture coloniale du Canada français et exerçaient une influence sur elle. Les expériences de La Vérendrye démontrent que le Canada à cette époque laissait de la place à toutes sortes de complexités, de variantes et de contradictions dans les relations véritables entre hommes et femmes, et la Nouvelle-France était loin d’être une société égalitaire. L’esclavage y existait sous une forme institutionnelle tout comme l’esclavage existait au sud.

Abstract:

The article investigates etiquette rules, without knowledge of which a full dialogue between representatives of different cultures is impossible. An attempt is made to investigate the question whether etiquette rules can be universal. The study reveals that national and cultural features of speech behavior of communicants-speakers of different languages, representatives of different cultures do not coincide. To achieve the harmonization of communication, it is necessary to combine verbal means with nonverbal ones. The article focuses on the analysis of the features of such a common gesture as a handshake used in a variety of speech cultures. The author reveals the features characteristic of individual cultures, draws attention to the fact that the handshake as a greeting is a gender-marked gesture not only in Daghestan but also in European culture.

AbstractWe investigated the feasibility of transducer head disinfection with 70% alcohol wipes. In the initial trial, nine gas-sterilized transducers were inoculated with an estimated 5 × 106 organisms of a clinical isolate of Enterobacter cloacae, mimicking a contaminated fluid couple. A sterile disposable transducer dome was attached to each transducer. The units were allowed to sit for 24 hours at room temperature; the domes were then removed. Three transducer heads were cultured prior to disinfection to ensure that viable organisms remained. Each transducer head was wiped clean with a single alcohol wipe, allowed to dry, and then cultured. All nine cultures showed growth of E. cloacae. A second series of trials with 54 transducers employed an identical protocol, except that each transducer head received not one, but two, applications of alcohol. In addition to E. cloacae (26 runs), Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Candida albicans were employed in nine, nine and ten runs, respectively. Cultures of 53 of 54 transducer heads showed no growth; the single positive culture was attributed to an error in technique. These preliminary results suggest that the double-alcohol-wipe technique may be an easy, cost-effective, alternative or supplemental method of transducer head disinfection. However, we do not advocate routine implementation of this technique in patient care settings until clinical trials confirm its safety and efficacy.

Abstract Abstract: In this article, I explore the problem of identity at the national and European levels historically and sociologically, exposing the liberal thread that runs through the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Looking to key historical and artistic figures, I argue for the continuity between early nationalist and European integrationist impulses, maintaining that-despite their seemingly contradictory essence-the two are bound together by a liberalism (viz. the pursuit of the natural rights of man) they hold in common. I contend that this connection illustrates that the initial efforts to construct the nation in the early nineteenth century and a supranational Europe more than a century later can be understood asidealistic liberal projects that have failed due to the populist turn upon which their success depends, leaving the cultural elites behind both projects in a shared loneliness.

After mass media, ethnic-themed restaurants are possibly the second most influential socialising agents of foreign cultures. Whereas the media often depicts foreign cultures in a stereotypical manner, the opportunity exists in the hospitality field to offer consumers a more detailed and accurate insight into a culture. Yet, is this what consumers really want? This paper addresses an important question: How do spaces of consumption affect the perception and representation of ‘authentic’ culture? To explore this, a four-stage, cross-cultural (ie Australia and United States) qualitative study was undertaken to examine the role the Outback Steakhouse chain of restaurants plays in representing Australian culture in the United States. Findings revealed that US subjects were more accepting of the restaurant environment where it matched the images of Australia perpetuated by the media. By contrast, Australian subjects indicated that the image this restaurant provides is a largely stereotypical, outdated, inaccurate representation of their culture. Research implications and recommendations from a marketing, hospitality, and tourism perspective are provided.

OBJECTIVETo increase reliability of the algorithm used in our fully automated electronic surveillance system by adding rules to better identify bloodstream infections secondary to other hospital-acquired infections.METHODSIntensive care unit (ICU) patients with positive blood cultures were reviewed. Central line–associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI) determinations were based on 2 sources: routine surveillance by infection preventionists, and fully automated surveillance. Discrepancies between the 2 sources were evaluated to determine root causes. Secondary infection sites were identified in most discrepant cases. New rules to identify secondary sites were added to the algorithm and applied to this ICU population and a non-ICU population. Sensitivity, specificity, predictive values, and kappa were calculated for the new models.RESULTSOf 643 positive ICU blood cultures reviewed, 68 (10.6%) were identified as central line–associated bloodstream infections by fully automated electronic surveillance, whereas 38 (5.9%) were confirmed by routine surveillance. New rules were tested to identify organisms as central line–associated bloodstream infections if they did not meet one, or a combination of, the following: (I) matching organisms (by genus and species) cultured from any other site; (II) any organisms cultured from sterile site; (III) any organisms cultured from skin/wound; (IV) any organisms cultured from respiratory tract. The best-fit model included new rules I and II when applied to positive blood cultures in an ICU population. However, they didn’t improve performance of the algorithm when applied to positive blood cultures in a non-ICU population.CONCLUSIONElectronic surveillance system algorithms may need adjustment for specific populations.Infect. Abstract:

Abstract This study explores the socio-economic legacies and critique of nation-building found in the work of Jose Joaquin Fernandez de Lizardi (1776-1827). In the nineteenth century, the Latin American elite struggled to disassociate itself from a suffocating colonial machine; they sought their own identity, and writing became a way to express their frustration. As in other parts of Latin America, Mexican intellectuals protested fossilisation via Cervantes’s Don Quijote. Using the Spanish author’s text as a blueprint, Lizardi’s Don Catrín de la fachenda depicted a turbulent society that was in the process of abandoning a decaying colonial order. Don Quijote’s characters engaged in power struggles and were involved in a variety of forms of social antagonism. Lizardi juxtaposed and superimposed these on an American geographical and socio-economic space where there was much dissension around the nation’s direction. The social and economic rules of Mexico (and Latin America) today can be said to be already present in the social exchanges in Don Catrín. It was in this context that Don Quijote was “Mexicanised” by Lizardi and thereby made to participate in local reflections on liberty, patriotism, capitalism, and citizenship. Cervantes’s text thus took on a socio-political meaning in the narrative of Latin America’s past and present.

Abstract:

The article deals with the basic principles and rules of discourse eastern negotiation, you need to know to effectively manage the communication process in the countries of the East. The author notes that the political communication in the East have a bright national specifics, here specific relation to time and space, the culture and traditions. Of particular importance are high context negotiation communication, a high content of non-verbal signs, indirect communication style, expressed the emphasis on personal connections and relations, underlined the value status. Despite the fact that the East is represented by a variety of national cultures, its system of political communications is woven from a large number of original negotiating practices, we can talk about the features of the eastern negotiating culture in general, because some of the important principles of communication common to most Eastern cultures. The article substantiates the conclusion that the basic characteristics of the eastern negotiating culture significantly different from the Russian and Western, but the sociocultural barriers can be overcome, if we pay attention to the basic rules of discourse eastern and eastern wisdom.

The article presents two scientific cultures, which have different indicators and measures of scientific achievements. Community orientated culture is interested in building of the common area of ideas and it tries to unify glossary, methodology, rules and promotion of good practices. Scope directed cultures are inclusive and open for cooperation. Measures of science are totally different in both cultures- more unpredictable in the first case and very clear in the scope orientated scientific culture. For young scientists the closer community should be only a first stage in the long way to the scientific success. The article indicates virtual communities as a way for finding new possibilities of making science at the satisfactory level.

Introducción: Las diferentes concepciones de la cultura organizacional se han desarrollado en las últimas décadas, dependiendo de éstas, se proponen, desarrollan y evalúan estrategias de intervención encaminadas a mejorar el bienestar de los miembros que las conforman. Objetivo: Describir las concepciones de cultura organizacional en las publicaciones de la base de datos EBSCO host durante los últimos seis años. Materiales y métodos: Revisión sistemática descriptiva de 71 artículos publicados en la base de datos EBSCO host, desde el año 2012 hasta el 2017. Resultados: Se identificó 110 definiciones de cultura organizacional, las cuales se clasificaron en cinco subcategorías: valores y creencias organizacionales, actitud organizacional, identidad organizacional, empresarial y aprendizaje organizacional. Conclusiones: La cultura organizacional se comprende desde diversas concepciones, vislumbrando con ello el desarrollo y aporte académico que ha tenido dicha temática.

Summary Objectives To assess changes in senior management culture in English NHS hospitals between 2001 and 2008. Design Longitudinal study comprising cross-sectional surveys of board levels managers at three time-points using a validated culture measurement instrument – the Competing Values Framework. Setting English NHS hospital trusts. Main outcomes There has been a decline in ‘Clan’ and an increase in more competitive ‘Rational’ cultures among senior management teams in NHS hospital trusts during the period 2001–2008. Conclusions Government policy for the NHS has espoused the desirability of competition, particularly since 2002. Our data suggest that corresponding changes in the cultures of senior management teams in NHS hospital trusts is beginning to occur, with the expectation that these organizations will pursue more competitive strategies.

El trabajo permite concluir es necesaria una mayor presencia institucional que de manera coordinada potencie los esfuerzos estatales y privados, en donde la universidad tiene un gran compromiso para promover proyectos con pertinencia y conciencia social.Abstract The objective of this article of reflection was to point out the value of the intersectorality, interdisciplinarity and health education as pillars to develop a University social responsibility model founded on social awareness and culture of the value of otherness. It comes from the results of the research made about the perception of risks the inhabitants of greater vulnerability of the urban area of Valledupar take who have life styles that can be modelled through empowerment and healthy well-being to develop the capacity for self-management to improve living conditions. This article describes two studies that demonstrate that cultural display rules (Study 1) and emotion regulation (ER; Study 2) are linked to judgments of emotional expressions of others. In Study 1, American and Japanese judges saw faces expressed at four levels of intensity and rated the intensity of the external display and presumed internal experience. They also completed measures of cultural display rules and psychological culture. Display rules accounted for 69% of the variance in cultural differences in ratings across the expression intensities; psychological culture accounted for an additional 14%. In Study 2 American judges saw the same faces and made the same ratings; this time, however, they completed two measures of ER. ER accounted for nearly all of the rating differences across the expression intensities. These studies report the first evidence of a link between an individual’s display rules and ER and judgments of emotion management in others.

Introducción: La cultura indígena en Colombia representa un conjunto de memorias históricas, sus costumbres revelan la evolución de la cultura propia, siendo la salud y la alimentación, aspectos de importancia desde los diferentes contextos. Objetivo: Evidenciar la cosmovisión de los procesos de salud y la alimentación en la cultura indígena guambiana. Materiales y métodos: Estudio cualitativo con enfoque etnográfico con técnicas de entrevista en profundidad a 12 representantes de la comunidad establecida por el Cabildo indígena. Resultados: Del proceso investigativo sobresalieron 3 categorías: a) la cultura ancestral, nuestra herencia y orgullo b) la salud mediada por la naturaleza c) la alimentación foco de sobrevivencia y cambio. Conclusiones: Los guambianos manifiestan una riqueza cultural que se evidencia desde sus ancestros en el lenguaje y vestimenta, la cual es una forma de identidad, en el mismo sentido la salud es concebida como el equilibrio de ellos y la naturaleza, la cual les confiere no solo la posibilidad de sanación de las enfermedades desde los conocimientos milenarios de los curanderos, sino que también la madre tierra les ofrece la posibilidad de alimentarse y conservar la salud, pese a la vinculación de costumbres externas.

One important aspect of religious practices and representations concerns the way information is handled. This article understands religion as a form of imagination, giving human properties to “nonhuman” agents (and vice versa), and thus, the rules of communication and interaction with such agents play a special role in religious culture. Webb Keane’s theory of “semiotic ideologies” is one tool that facilitates the study of religious norms, expectations, and rules. In New Age culture, practices of “information exchange” with imaginary superhuman agents and transpersonal forces are based on specific psychophysical techniques, often called “channeling” or “contact.” The analysis of specific ethnographic examples related to ufological channeling demonstrates that this practice forms new types of collective agency, a distinctive feature of New Age culture itself.

Communication difficulties faced by the individuals involved are caused by differences in their respective cultural expectations. Differences in cultural expectations can lead to fatal risks, one of which is a misunderstanding. In intermarried family life there will be a misunderstanding of intercultural communication, which involves all family members. This study discusses family communication in mixed marriage couples between Indonesia and Australia. The research carried out is intended to find out and analyze the negotiation of self-identity in interactions, conflict management mediated by face and culture, family communication processes, inhibiting factors, and supporting family communication in mixed marriage couples between Indonesia and Australia. Using advanced negotiation theory and symbolic interaction theory. In this study, the authors used a descriptive qualitative method. The data collection techniques used are through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data obtained shows that Mindfulness: Acceptance of new cultures, in terms of language (using both languages), nature (Australia: Individualism-Indonesia: collectivism). Mindlessness: Stereotype, perspective, building tolerance, dealing with habits, opening up to accept a new culture.

ERP (enterprise resource planning) packages provide generic off-the-shelf business and software solutions for customers. However, these packages are implemented in companies with different corporate and national cultures and there is growing evidence that failure to adapt ERP packages to fit these cultures leads to projects which are expensive and overdue. This paper describes research which synthesizes social science theories of culture in order to be able to model and predict the impact of culture on ERP package implementation. It describes a knowledge meta-schema for modelling the surface and deeper manifestations of culture and predictions of ERP implementation problems based on national culture differences. It reports on an empirical study into the implementation of ERP packages in a large pharmaceuticals organization in Scandinavia and the UK. The results provide evidence for an association between corporate culture and ERP implementation problems but no direct evidence for an association between national culture and implementation problems. Furthermore, the results demonstrate that these diverse implementation problems can be caused by a mismatch between a small set of core values which are indicative of a customer's corporate culture. The paper concludes with revisions to the design of our extended method for ERP package implementation to the design of the meta-model and to rules that codify culture constraints that are applied in order to analyse instances of the meta-model.

Intercultural communication is the exchange of cultural information be-tween groups of people from different cultures. Effective communicators are those who are motivated, who have a significant stock of knowledge to draw upon and possess the needed communication skills. Motivation understood as competence means that one wants to interact with a person from another culture and to get to know that culture. The knowledge dimension of communication competence means that one has knowledge about the other person and his or her culture. Skills are the actual application of specific behaviours that enable one to accomplish one’s goals. The skills need to be adapted to the rules of interaction that are appropriate to the host culture.

The article actualizes the problems of speech culture as a necessary component of intercultural competence. In the terms of interlanguage and intercultural contact, the speech culture is characterized by universal and ethnospecific characteristics. This is due to the fact that culture, which is a social phenomenon, is equally understood throughout the world and may have features in different linguistic cultures. The paper highlights the main functions of culture – epistemological, communicative, value, normative, etc., which indicates its complexity and diversity. Each nation and ethnic group reveal these functions in different ways. Culture, as a voluminous and meaningful concept, is a system of values, norms and rules of behavior. In this system, a special place is occupied by the culture of speech, which, in turn, has such characteristics as correctness, communicative expediency, clarity, accuracy, accessibility, logic, purity, expressiveness, aesthetics, relevance. All these qualities of speech culture also have a national imprint and include such elements as the values of morality, ethics, relationships, belonging to a faith, religion, social group, etc. This understanding allows you to develop a learning path in consideration of the cultural meaning or meaning that is embedded in the language, rules, norms, and beliefs. Based on a number of terms identified during the analysis of the content of General language disciplines of the University system, this article suggests ways to develop speech culture in the context of the formation of intercultural competence.

Why do individuals sacrifice themselves to defend a nation-state? This article emphasises the link between emotion and culture by investigating the affective reproduction of culture in world politics. Building on the tradition of Émile Durkheim, it introduces the concept of emotion culture to IR. Emotion cultures are understood as the culture-specific complex of emotion vocabularies, feeling rules, and beliefs about emotions and their appropriate expression that facilitates the cultural construction of political communities, such as the nation-state. It is argued that emotions provide a socio-psychological mechanism by which culture moves individuals to defend a nation-state, especially in times of war. By emotionally investing in the cultural structure of a nation-state, the individual aligns him/herself with a powerful cultural script, which then dominates over other available scripts. The argument is empirically illustrated by the case of the so-called Japanese kamikaze pilots.

Objetivo: Comprender el fenómeno de la violencia basada en género desde la visión de los administrativos en una Institución de Educación Superior. Materiales y métodos: Estudio basado en el paradigma cualitativo con enfoque de Investigación-Acción. Como técnicas se emplearon: entrevista a informantes clave, observación participante, grupo focal y taller. Resultados: El conocimiento sobre la Violencia Basada en Género es superficial, los tipos de violencia más reconocidos fueron la violencia sexual y la psicológica, se reconoce naturalización del fenómeno en la institución y; frecuentemente se aduce que la falta de reacción mostrada por quienes la viven u observan, ocurre como resultado del miedo a represalias. Conclusiones: La visibilización del problema ayudó a comprender las directrices de un fenómeno como la violencia basada en género, que debe orientarse en múltiples escenarios académicos e institucionales y con diversas estrategias que conjuntamente orientadas pueden generar un impacto significativo.AbstractIntroduction: To study the issue of gender-based violence (GBV) in the university context is a challenge, since it is considered more in the private sphere, it is not dealt openly in public and it is naturalized by culture. Objective: Understand the phenomenon of GBV from the perspective of the administration in an institution of higher education. Materials and methods: A study based on the qualitative paradigm with action research approach was conducted. The adopted techniques were; interviews with key informants, participant observation, focus group and interventional workshop. Results: The knowledge of administrative workers on GBV is superficial. However, the types of violence more recognized were sexual and psychological violence. The naturalization of the phenomenon in the institution was recognized and it was often argued that the lack of reaction shown by those who live or observe this type of violence occurs as a result of the fear of reprisals. Conclusions: The visibility of the problem helped to understand the guidelines of a phenomenon such as gender-based violence, which should be directed in many academic and institutional scenarios and with various strategies that jointly oriented can generate a significant impact.

To test the osmoregulatory rules of Schwann cell aldose reductase (AR) and myo-inositol, JS1 Schwann cells were grown under control and hyperosmotic conditions with and without excess glucose or galactose. JS1 cells cultured in control conditions possessed AR protein and activity that were not altered by the inclusion of 25 mM glucose or galactose. Following culture with 100 mM NaCl, there was a decline in cell number accompanied by an increase in AR activity, both of which were attenuated by the addition of 25 mM glucose or galactose. Sorbitol was not detected in JS1 Schwann cells following culture in control, glucose-supplemented, or hyperosmotic medium, and dulcitol accumulated only following culture with galactose. However, both polyols were dramatically increased in JS1 cells cultured in hyperosmotic medium supplemented with 25 mM glucose or galactose. In contrast, myo-inositol levels were elevated only during hyperosmotic exposure but decreased when glucose or galactose was also present. These data are consistent with the use of polyol formation by JS1 Schwann cells as a means of responding to osmotic stress.

Literature and culture intimately complement each other. Culture is a vehicle by which literary texts emanate values, social rules and beliefs. The connection between literature and culture must be tackled in foreign language classrooms for the ultimate objective of learning the target civilisation. The current research focuses primarily on the importance of bringing literature and culture into the classroom. The focal points of this paper are to shed lights on which cultures literature tutors ought to focus on, what kind of texts to expose students to, how best to lead teaching and which cultural themes need to be tackled. Classroom observational sessions are used for two academic years 2019–2020 and 2020–2021 with second-year students at Dr. Moulay Tahar University of Saida. The findings reveal that students do not favour texts that have cultural taboos. Thereby, using appropriate and interesting literature in the foreign language classroom would engage and motivate learners, as well as challenge their beliefs. Abstract Off-gas analysis using a magnetic sector mass spectrometer was performed in mammalian cell cultures in the fed-batch mode at the 5 L bench and 50 L pilot scales. Factors affecting the MS gas traces were identified during the duration of the fed-batch cultures. Correlation between viable cell concentration (VCC) and oxygen concentration of the inlet gas into the bioreactor (O2-in) resulted in R2 ≈ 0.9; O2-in could be used as a proxy for VCC. Oxygen mass transfer (kLa) was also quantified throughout the culture period with antifoam addition at different time points which is shown to lower the kLa. Real-time specific oxygen consumption rate (qO2) of 2–20 pmol/cell/day throughout the bioreactor runs were within the range of values reported in literature for mammalian cell cultures. We also report, to our knowledge, the first instance of a distinct correlation between respiration quotient (RQ) and the metabolic state of the cell culture with regard to lactate production phase (average RQ > 1) and consumption phase (average RQ < 1).

ItHas now become common ground that legal rules are contingent and are not enough in themselves to present a real image of a legal system. They are only one manifestation of the legal culture from which they stem. As Merriman put it, to understand a legal system, “you have to know where it comes from and what its image of itself is”. This is the premise on which Professor Bell wrote his latest book. However, he takes the argument one step further and states that it is not fully accurate to speak about the French legal culture as a single, homogeneous entity. Rather, he submits that there are several French legal cultures: one for each area of law under scrutiny. In his book, he therefore refines the now widely accepted view that a legal system consists not only of a set of rules but also of a complex of perceptions, attitudes, values and modes of reasoning.

Abstract:

The article is aimed at examining the peculiarities of development and implementation of values management as the main component of the corporate culture of enterprise in modern conditions of competition in both the world and the domestic markets. The article analyzes the concept of value, also the ideology and civilizational world-view related to the values. An analysis of the concept of corporate culture is made, as well as the basic principles of culture of organizations and enterprises are highlighted. Management levels at enterprises are considered. The main characteristics of values management and corporate culture are highlighted. Bright examples of creating effective, outstanding corporate cultures are given (Zappos and Semco companies). The algorithm for development and implementation of the value system at the enterprise is also provided. Building up a corporate culture and implementing the core corporate values are substantiated on the example of JSC «Kharkivske instrumentalne pidpryiemstvo». To improve the corporate culture, based on the experience of the best world and Ukrainian enterprises, it is proposed to characterize the ideal look of the future enterprise; outline the mission (purpose of the enterprise); decide on the following: values (ideals, convictions, important things, values of the enterprise’s staff); rules, norms of conduct of employees of the enterprise; management manner and personnel policy; rules, traditions, procedures and the order adopted at the enterprise or organization; heroes, myths and history of the enterprise; socio-psychological climate in the team; interaction between employees of the same and different departments; corporate symbols in the form of external paraphernalia.
