Abstract This article examines to what dramaturgical effect Sam Shepard’s political play States of Shock (1991) remediates strategies associated with the culture industry. In plays, spectators forge an interpretation from a medium that is considered ‘hypermedial’ or capable of combining discrete signifying systems such as dialogue, costumes, acting style and scenography at the same time. In States of Shock, genre remediation implicates its audience in the spectacle of war by juxtaposing American war heroism and military ideology with entertaining vaudeville. The study’s objective is to identify factors that can have a productive and positive impact on the formation of environmental culture. The authors use an interdisciplinary approach in the study. Thus, the methods of system analysis (methods of integration, convergence, structurization, optimization, etc.) focus on a comprehensive study of contemporary problems of ecological culture. Applying the methodology of legal taxonomy allows outlining the basic principles contributing to the level of ecological culture. Among the special methods, the method of ecologization is of particular importance i

Abstract The transcription factor hypoxia-inducible factor-1 (HIF-1) is critical for erythropoietin and other factors involved in the adaptation of the organism to hypoxic stress. Conflicting results have been published regarding the role of the mitochondrial electron transport chain (ETC) in the regulation of HIF-1α. We assessed cellular hypoxia by pimonidazole staining and blotting of the O2-labile HIF-1 α-subunit in human osteosarcoma cell cultures (U2OS and 143B). In conventional, gas-impermeable cell culture dishes, ETC inhibitors had no effect on pimonidazole staining or HIF-1α abundance

Abstract:
Communication involves a host of factors, being embedded in the broad socio-cultural context in which messages are conveyed. Several theoretical frameworks have been proposed concerning patterns of communication and the way(s) they differ according to culture. Our paper draws on Hall’s (1976) key notions of low-context and high-context cultures, coupled with strategies of explicitation and implicitation. Our analysis focuses on the extent to which communicators rely on “context” to overtly state something in low-context cultures, or to covertly render a message in high-context cultures. Accord
