Abstract:

Taking into account a significant scientific and technological progress, use of modern monochrome or multicolor photocopiers in the office administration, and the increase in this regard in the number of signatures received for examination by forensic expert units, relevance for continuing to study signatures as one of the essential requisites of many types of documents and methods of their technical forgery becomes obvious.
The purpose of the article is to highlight certain issues of current methods of signatures technical forgery.
Research methods: general (formal-logical methods of cognition: analysis, synthesis, generalization, analogy), general scientific (observation, measurement, description, comparison), special (visual, microscopic, photographic).
Since the fact of handwritten signature execution possesses legal value, it often becomes the object of forgery. For this purpose, a variety of techniques is used. Criminals often resort to the so-called technical forgery of signatures on documents (performing signatures on behalf of another person using various techniques and technical means which helps to achieve the greatest similarity with the original) along with the usual graphic forgery. The essence of signatures technical forgery usually lies in mechanical copying, instead of imitating features of writing-motor skills and the signature-original. By such a signature, you can not measure the level of writing-motor skills of the performer.
Each of the methods of signature technical forgery leaves in the signature the signs inherent only to this method. Studying such methods and their features collectively will allow to diagnose the fact of handwritten or technical execution of a signature with a sufficiently high degree of probability.

Abstract:
Molecular signatures predictive of recurrence-free survival (RFS) and castration resistance are critical for treatment decision-making in prostate cancer (PCa), but the robustness of current signatures is limited. Here, we applied the Robust Rank Aggregation (RRA) method to PCa transcriptome profiles and identified 287 genes differentially expressed between localized castration-resistant PCa (CRPC) and hormone-sensitive PCa (HSPC). Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) and stepwise Cox regression analyses of the 287 genes developed a 6-gene signature predictive of RFS in PCa. This signature included NPEPL1, VWF, LMO7, ALDH2, NUAK1, and TPT1, and was named CRPC-derived prognosis signature (CRPCPS). Interestingly, three of these 6 genes constituted another signature capable of distinguishing CRPC from HSPC. The CRPCPS predicted RFS in 5/9 cohorts in the multivariate analysis and remained valid in patients stratified by tumor stage, Gleason score, and lymph node status. The signature also predicted overall survival and metastasis-free survival. The signature’s robustness was demonstrated by the C-index (0.55–0.74) and the calibration plot in all nine cohorts and the 3-, 5-, and 8-year area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (0.67–0.77) in three cohorts. The nomogram analyses demonstrated CRPCPS’ clinical applicability. The CRPCPS thus appears useful for RFS prediction in PCa.

Abstract:
In VLR (verifier-local revocation) group signatures, revocation messages are only sent to signature verifiers (as opposed to both signers and verifiers). Consequently there is no need to contact individual signers when some user is revoked. Since signers have no load, the VLR group signature schemes are suitable for mobile environments. To meet the requirement of speediness in mobile communication, reducing computation costs and shortening signature length are two requirements at the current research of VLR group signatures. Based on this idea, an improved version of Zhou’s VLR group signature is given. Compared with the original scheme, the improved scheme not only can achieve the same security level, but also has shorter signature size and lower computation costs.

Abstract:
Hash-based signatures are gaining attention as one of the alternatives that can replace current digital signatures that are not secure against an attack by quantum computers along with lattice-based signatures, multivariate signatures, and code-based signatures. Up to now, all hash-based signatures have used binary representations to generate signatures. In this paper, we propose using the nonadjacent form (NAF) when generating signatures in hash-based signatures. Concretely, we propose a hash-based signature scheme, WSS-N, which is obtained by applying nonadjacent forms (NAF) to the Winternitz signature scheme. We prove that WSS-N is existentially unforgeable under chosen message attacks in the standard model. And we show that WSS-N needs less hash function calls compared to the Winternitz signature scheme using the binary representation, WSS-B. For a specific parameter with a 256-bit security, we can see that WSS-N generates signatures faster than WSS-B by 8%. Finally, we implement both WSS-N and WSS-B and show that WSS-N generates signatures faster than WSS-B on a desktop computer.

Abstract:
The fault diagnosis of electrical machines during startup transients has received increasing attention regarding the possibility of detecting faults early. Induction motors are no exception, and motor current signature analysis has become one of the most popular techniques for determining the condition of various motor components. However, in the case of inverter powered systems, the condition of a motor is difficult to determine from the stator current because fault signatures could overlap with other signatures produced by the inverter, low-slip operation, load oscillations, and other non-stationary conditions. This paper presents a speed signature analysis methodology for a reliable broken rotor bar diagnosis in inverter-fed induction motors. The proposed fault detection is based on tracking the speed fault signature in the time-frequency domain. As a result, different fault severity levels and load oscillations can be identified. The promising results show that this technique can be a good complement to the classic analysis of current signature analysis and reveals a high potential to overcome some of its drawbacks.

Abstract:
Abstract. Based on a comprehensive catalogue with more than 4000 magnetospheric substorm entries from the years 2000–2005, the spatial distribution of the substorm-related magnetic signatures at mid and low latitudes around local midnight was investigated. Superposed epoch analysis of a larger number of recent observatory data from mid and low latitudes revealed a field strength increase that is consistent with the results of earlier studies. For the first time, the magnetic signature of the substorm current wedge formation is studied also in near-Earth satellite data from CHAMP. The average maximal deflection measured on board the satellite is smaller by a factor of 2 than that determined from ground observations. The recurrence frequency of substorms as well as the amplitude of their magnetic signature depends strongly on the prevailing magnetic activity. The observed average substorm-related magnetic field signatures cannot be described adequately by a simple current wedge model. A satisfactory agreement between model results and observations at satellite height and on ground can be achieved only if the current reconfiguration scenario combines four elements: (1) the gradual decrease of the tail lobe field, (2) the re-routing of a part of the cross-tail current through the ionosphere, (3) eastward ionospheric currents at low and mid latitudes driven by Region-2 field-aligned currents, and (4) a partial ring current connected to these Region-2 FACs.

Abstract:
Abstract. The characteristics of substorm-associated Pi2 pulsations observed by the SABRE coherent radar system during three separate case studies are presented. The SABRE field of view is well positioned to observe the differences between the auroral zone pulsation signature and that observed at mid-latitudes. During the first case study the SABRE field of view is initially in the eastward electrojet, equatorward and to the west of the substorm-enhanced electrojet current. As the interval progresses, the western, upward field-aligned current of the substorm current wedge moves westward across the longitudes of the radar field of view. The westward motion of the wedge is apparent in the spatial and temporal signatures of the associated Pi2 pulsation spectra and polarisation sense. During the second case study, the complex field-aligned and ionospheric currents associated with the pulsation generation region move equatorward into the SABRE field of view and then poleward out of it again after the third pulsation in the series. The spectral content of the four pulsations during the interval indicate different auroral zone and mid-latitude signatures. The final case study is from a period of low magnetic activity when SABRE observes a Pi2 pulsation signature from regions equatorward of the enhanced substorm currents. There is an apparent mode change between the signature observed by SABRE in the ionosphere and that on the ground by magnetometers at latitudes slightly equatorward of the radar field of view. The observations are discussed in terms of published theories of the generation mechanisms for this type of pulsation. Different signatures are observed by SABRE depending on the level of magnetic activity and the position of the SABRE field of view relative to the pulsation generation region. A twin source model for Pi2 pulsation generation provides the clearest explanation of the signatures observed.

Abstract:
Its observation is at reach in carbonnanotube state-of-art experiments. Therefore, we investigate the mechanical response of the system, namely the displacement spectral function, the linear response to a driving, and the ring-down behavior, and the electric response, namely the electric current and current spectral function. We show that a close relation between electric and mechanical quantities exists. We find that, by increasing the lectromechanical coupling, the peak in both spectral functions broadens and shifts at low frequencies while the oscillator dephasing time shortens. These effects are maximum at the transition where nonlinearities dominate the dynamics, and are robust towards the effect of external uctuations and dissipation. These strong signatures open the way to detect the blockade transition in devices currently studied by several groups

Ashnibha, Rmdan Abdussalm. "An investigation into current and vibration signatures of three phase induction motors." Thesis, Manchester Metropolitan University, 2012. http://e-space.mmu.ac.uk/314037/.

Full text
Abstract:
This research aimed at investigating the relationship between three phase induction motors vibration (MVS) and current signatures (MCS). This is essential due to the cost of vibration measuring equipment and in cases where vibration of interest point is not accessible; such as electrical submersible pumps (ESP) used in oil industry. A mathematical model was developed to understand the effects of two types of induction motors common faults; rotor bar imperfections and phase imbalance on the motor vibration and current signatures. An automated test facility was developed in which 1.1 kW three phase motor could be tested under varying shaft rotation speeds and loads for validating the developed model. Time and frequency domains statistical parameters of the measured signals were calculated for fault detection and assessing its severity. The measured signals were also processed using the short time Fourier transform (STFT), the Wigner-Ville distribution (WVD), the continuous wavelet transform (CWT) and discrete wavelet transform (DWT) and wavelet multi-resolution analysis (MRA). The non-stationary components, representing faults within induction motor measured vibration and current signals, were successfully detected using wavelet decomposition technique. An effective alternative to direct vibration measurement scheme, based on radial basis function networks, was developed to the reconstruction of motor vibration using measurements of one phase of the motor current. It was found that this method captured the features of induction motor faults with reasonable degrees of accuracy. Another method was also developed for the early detection and diagnosis of faults using an enhanced power factor method. Experimental results confirmed that the power factor can be used successfully for induction motor fault diagnosis and is also promising in assessing fault severity. The suggested two methods offer inexpensive, reliable and non-intrusive condition monitoring tools that suits real-time applications. Directions for further work were also outlined.

Abstract:
Les résultats présentés ici apportent donc de nouveaux éléments dans l'analyse des courants permanents<br>In this thesis, we report very high resolution specific heat measurements of normal metal mesoscopic silver rings at very low temperatures. The objective of this experiment is to measure the possible existence of thermal signatures due to the presence of persistent currents. This phenomenon is still misunderstood despite many measurements. Some contradictions exist between experimental results and the different theories. The thermal approach is a new point of view. Under magnetic field, the Cp variation is expected be periodic with the quantum of flux Φ0=h/e or half of the quantum of flux as it has been theoretically predicted. The studied samples is composed by a large number of silver rings with an electronic phase coherence length of few microns at low temperatures. They were deposited on the suspended membrane of a silicon sensor. We have realized, at different temperatures, a large number of identical scans of the heat capacity variation as a function of the applied field. A signal processing work on this data has then been realized to detect signal periodicities. It showed a difference between the module and the phase of the heat capacity. A peak can be observed on the FFT at a frequency corresponding to h/2e on the phase signal. The peak appears particularly at 100mK with a amplitude which is consistent with previous calculations. A sensitivity of ΔC~10^(-14)J/K on the module (Δφ~10^(-2) degrees on the phase) has been reached whether 10^(-21)J/K per ring. Thus, the presented experiences give new elements in the field of persistent currents

The developed system performs the measurement of the effective electric current through monitored equipment, use a network of sensors connected to a data concentrator module, which in turn performs the intermediate storage, the preliminary treatment of the data and the subsequent send an Internet platform of Things (Internet of Things - IoT). The preliminary treatment of data for analysis of the time series of values of electric currents to obtain an initial evaluation of the state of operation of the monitored machine. Then, the pre-processed information is sent via the internet, a usage platform for term storage, post-processing and real-time visualization of the data by users of interest. In the data platform, the data is formatted for visualization and evaluation of the users, allowing the presentation of alerts and knowledge when deviations are detected in relation to the normal operational parameters. When a current consumption behavior deviation is detected, correlating a potential failure type, the system signals additional information to a User's interest group (to the supervisor of the production line, for example), which in a planned manner, proceeds to some intervention without equipment, without prejudice of the production. The availability of the full-time series of stored data as well as the history of occurrences recorded throughout the use of the monitoring system but is still looking for correlations between data of other origins and nature, and the interpretation of the same data under other perspectives beyond the operation or maintenance of the machine. Abstract:
Crews of naval vessels lack an up-to-date awareness of those aspects of a ship’s susceptibility to threats that are related to the actual ship signatures (acoustic, magnetic, infrared, etc.). The ship’s susceptibility depends among others on the current configuration of the ship, the environment, the enemy sensor capabilities and the related ship signature levels. For operational purposes, it is desirable that crews have a tool which informs and advises them on the ship signatures, on ways of managing them and on the consequential detection ranges of adversary sensors in the current tactical situation. A functional demonstrator for such a support tool, called COSIMAR (Continuous Operational Signature Monitoring Awareness and Recommendation), has been developed and tested in a laboratory environment in an international project. The background and approach of this international cooperation between Canada, Germany, Norway, Belgium and The Netherlands had been presented at the INEC conference 2014 in Amsterdam. This year's presentation will show the result of this joint effort. The architecture, human machine interface, signature and susceptibility models will be addressed, including the laboratory environment simulating all required platform and environmental input.

Abstract:
Abstract This article provides an analysis of a class of failures observed during the SEMATECH-sponsored Test Methods Experiment. The analysis focuses on use of test-based failure analysis and IDDQ signature analysis to gain insight into the physical mechanisms underlying such subtle failures. In doing so, the analysis highlights techniques for understanding failure mechanisms using only tester data. In the experiment, multiple test methods were applied to a 0.45 micrometer effective channel length ASIC. Specifically, ICs that change test behavior from before to after burn-in are studied to understand the physical nature of the mechanism underlying their failure. Examples of the insights provided by the test-based analysis include identifying cases where there are multiple or complex defects and distinguishing cases where the defect type is likely to be a short versus an open and determining if the defect is marginal. These insights can be helpful for successful failure analysis.

Abstract:
Since the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC) opened for signature in 1972, biology and other converging disciplines have advanced considerably. These changes could have profound implications for a science-based disarmament agreement like the BWC. To address changes in biology and biotechnology, BWC States Parties have established processes to review developments in science and technology (S&amp;T), including annual expert meetings on this topic. However, shortcomings are evident in the current approaches and many BWC States Parties have expressed support for a more systematic review of science and technology under the Convention. This study seeks to inform discussions on establishing a dedicated and systematic S&amp;T review process under the BWC through an examination of existing S&amp;T review-type mechanisms employed in different regimes beyond the BWC, a survey of States Parties views on a possible review mechanism and a study of past and present discourse on this issue in the BWC. Based on the analysis conducted, this study also presents options for BWC States Parties to consider ahead of the Ninth BWC Review Conference.

Abstract:
Supersonic projectiles in air generate acoustical signatures that are fundamentally related to the projectile’s shape, size, and velocity. These characteristics influence various mechanisms involved in the generation, propagation, decay, and coalescence of acoustic waves. To understand the relationships between projectile shape, size, velocity, and the physical mechanisms involved, an experimental effort captured the acoustic field produced by a range of supersonic projectiles using both conventional pressure sensors and a schlieren imaging system. The results of this ongoing project will elucidate those fundamental mechanisms, enabling more sophisticated tools for detection, classification, localization, and tracking. This paper details the experimental setup, data collection, and preliminary analysis of a series of ballistic projectiles, both idealized and currently in use by the U.S. Military.
