Three critical curricular issues currently hinder many gifted/talented programs: Fragmentation, or disjointed curricula; limited availability of truly appropriate or legitimate curricula for the gifted/talented either commercially or locally; lack of systematic planning to improve curricula for the gifted/talented. The C3 Model (Comprehensive Curriculum Coordination) is one way of resolving these issues on a long-range basis through developing five curriculum products in sequence: (1) Long-range curriculum development/improvement plan, (2) curriculum framework, (3) scopes and sequences, (4) course descriptions, and (5) skeletal unit plans.

Abstract Finding a balance between a centralised and decentralised curricular policy for general education and seeing teachers as autonomous agents of curriculum development is a recurrent issue in many countries. Radical reforms bring about the need to investigate whether and to what extent different parties – and first of all, teachers – are ready to accept and internalise the new policies and roles as curriculum leaders to ensure the sustainability of curriculum development. The purpose of this paper is to describe the development of a questionnaire for investigating Estonian teachers’ curricular work and preferences and to introduce the results of its piloting. The main topics covered by the questionnaire are teachers’ experience and autonomy in using and developing curricula, their preparation for curriculum development and preferences and expectations for the best curricular solutions. The developed questionnaire can be used for investigating teachers’ curricular work and preferences in different national contexts, thus enabling comparative studies across countries with different practices regarding curriculum policy.

The dental profession is an important segment of human health care services all over the world. Dental schools in Europe and United States have evolved their curriculum to keep abreast with advances in dentistry; like connective tissue biophysics and molecular engineering through an objectively structured and clinically oriented curriculum. However, dental education in our country is still mostly traditional. This article examines the new approaches to teaching and learning in dental schools/colleges that are shaping dental curriculum globally. Articles relating to curricular trends in dental education and advancement in the dental profession published between 2010-2020 were searched in medical search engines. However, few relevant articles published before this period were also consulted. The current trends in dental curricula show new teaching, learning, and assessment methods like small group discussions, case-based learning, competency-based learning, Inquiry-based teaching-learning, and peer-assisted learning. The curricular format is integrated and new innovative assessment techniques like the assessment of multiple systematic reviews (AMSTAR) are being employed. Virtual reality, interdisciplinary teaching, and distributed community models in dental education are being implemented. The emergence of COVID-19 has also affected dental education and as a result, e-learning formats and assessment techniques have become increasingly popular. Dental schools abroad have revamped their curriculum with the advances in newer technologies and research related to dentistry. There is a need to immediately update and redesign the present dental curriculum in our country as well.

Many leadership crises troubling both established and younger churches arise from inappropriate educational programs. Several basic curricular questions focus our attention on both leadership development needs and the design of leadership development curricula. Leadership theory, theology, anthropology, communication theory, curriculum theory, and development theory combine to help build perspectives for cross-cultural leadership development. Both the educational structures and processes as well as the content combine to shape the outcomes of educational programs. Curricula, then, which contextually balance the advantages of formal, nonformal, and informal education promise to be significantly more effective in terms of the purpose for theological education than traditional approaches.

Abstract In 2016, South Africa saw student and staff protests calling for the decolonisation of the teaching curriculum in institutions of Higher Education. Although these protests were centred in public universities, the issue of decolonisation also affects private institutions such as seminaries that need to transform curricula from being permeated with Western idealism to being authentically African. This article explores this issue for Methodist theological education. It argues that decolonisation affects not only the content of the teaching curriculum but also matters such as staffing and curriculum development. Its focus is to develop ways of implementing an Afrocentric curriculum in African Methodist seminaries.

This study examines design thinking (DT) as a strategy to develop K-3 digital literacy curricula. This article chronicles first-year, preservice teachers’ (PSTs’) perceptions using DT to explore an often-misunderstood curricular framework, digital literacy. The participants employed DT as a strategy for developing digital literacy curriculum. Findings discussed in this article explored PSTs’ perceptions of DT and how the strategy helped or hindered their understanding of digital literacy as an elementary curricular framework. This study calls for further investigation regarding DT as a strategy for curriculum development early in teacher preparation.

The objective of the study is to analyze implications of the movements for the curricular internationalization of higher education in terms of current curriculum policies and reconfigurations of basic education, particularly in Brazil and Portugal. This article presents and discusses a set of strategies that have been formulated and or adopted by the Brazilian state and by non-state organizations that seek to align higher education and basic education curriculums to movements that defend internationalization. Drawing on previous research, this exploratory and empirical study uses official texts of Brazilian educational and curricular policy, as well as projects of private institutions related to curriculum internationalization, as its primary sources. The article concludes that there is a significant process of alignment of Brazilian education to the expectations and demands of internationalization and that various strategies adopted in higher education are readapted for use in curricular territories of basic education.

Purpose – The purpose of this study is to determine the degree of attention to and the nature of sustainability issues in the curriculum of the Higher National Diploma (HND) Purchasing and Supply Management programme of Ghana. Design/methodology/approach – Documentary research is the approach used to analyse the curriculum document for the programme of study. Findings – Findings of this study reveal a low presence of sustainability in the curriculum, and most of the sustainability sub-topics address issues of social justice, while economic sustainability issues feature the least. Practical implications – Deliberate and greater efforts should be made to integrate sustainability in the curriculum; all three dimensions of sustainability need to be well represented in the teaching and learning experiences; and there should be training and sensitisation of all relevant stakeholders in issues of sustainability. Originality/value – This study provides an analysis of a higher education curriculum in terms of attention given to sustainability and the nature of sustainability issues addressed therein. It sets the research agenda for the study of curricula of other programmes for sustainability, as research literature on higher education curricula for sustainability in Africa, especially Ghana, is scarce (GUNi et al., 2011).

The perception of Periodontology learning environment was measured before and after curricular restructuring by the Dundee Ready Education Environment Measure (DREEM). Undergraduate students (2nd, 3rd, 4th years; n = 266) were divided into two main groups: former curriculum (n = 131) and current one (n = 131). Total DREEM score, its five dimensions, Periodontology grades and their weighted average were compared. Student’s t test and ANOVA were used for analysis (p < 0.05). There was a statistically significant difference between the second (teachers) and fifth (social relations) dimensions and between Periodontology grades and the weighted average in both curricula. For each year, higher scores in the second dimension, Periodontology grades and the weighted average were obtained for current curriculum. Both curricula presented a significant correlation between Periodontology grades and their weighted average. Total DREEM scores for 2nd, 3rd and 4th years of current curriculum presented no differences (p > 0.05). The implementation of a new curriculum had an important impact on the students’ positive perceptions, which reflected in their academic performance

We use data from one of the few states where information on curriculum adoptions is available—Indiana—to empirically evaluate differences in performance across three elementary-mathematics curricula. The three curricula that we evaluate were popular nationally during the time of our study, and two of the three remain popular today. We find large differences in effectiveness between the curricula, most notably between the two that held the largest market shares in Indiana. Both are best characterized as traditional in pedagogy. We also show that the publisher of the least-effective curriculum did not lose market share in Indiana in the following adoption cycle; one explanation is that educational decision makers lack information about differences in curricular effectiveness.

This article discusses the problem of ensuring the curricula quality. The aim of the theoretical research carried out by the authors is to clarify the perception of “curriculum design” with reference to international and domestic requirements for the curriculum development and quality assessment. During the research process, the “curriculum design” definition was given and curricula quality assessment criteria were selected. The authors conducted a comparative analysis of innovative, for different institutions, curricula which are implemented in the system of professional education: secondary, higher and vocational. In the article the authors focus on interactivity as the main criterion of the curriculum quality assessment. One of the results of implemented interactive working forms in education is to increase the level of students learning motivation. Involving not only teachers, but also students to the process of curriculum quality assessment promotes curriculum design development. This article covers the results of students’ satisfaction level assessment with curriculum quality in the vocational education system. In conclusion, it is pointed out that curriculum design is a dynamic process which ensures the quality of specialists’ training in the system of professional education

Two curricular approaches for modifying nonhandicapped high school students' attitudes toward their exceptional peers were compared. One curriculum was structured around categories of exceptionality (e.g., mental retardation, sensory impairments) while the other focused on generic concepts, including values, conformity, individual differences, and labeling effects. Each curriculum was presented over a 10-week period and the effects assessed via two pencil-paper attitude evaluation scales. Results revealed that both curricula positively modified students' attitudes, with subjects exposed to the categorical curriculum demonstrating significantly greater attitude changes. The data are interpreted relative to the issue of labeling and the most effective means of positively modifying attitudes toward handicapped persons.

ABSTRACT Prior research and practitioner-academic bodies (Lawson et al. 2014; Lawson et al. 2015; Pathways Commission 2012) have called for the development of integrated accounting curricula to better prepare students for successful long-term careers. This paper recognizes accounting program leaders as important agents in the curricular-change process. Its goal is to provide accounting leaders ideas and tools that can be used to manage the process of implementing change to an integrated accounting curriculum. Using a life-cycle planning approach, we identify major stages in the curricular-change process and describe the characteristics and challenges associated with each stage. We then propose a framework for managing the curricular-change process based on the life-cycle approach, encompassing a comprehensive integration process and including spreadsheet formats to facilitate management of an institution's curricular-change initiative. While needed in an effort to develop an integrated curriculum, the approach is generalizable and can be used in any major revision of a curriculum. Appendix A of the paper contains a checklist of issues to be considered during each stage of the curricular-change cycle.

Preschool teachers in Ohio, representing Head Start, Preschool Special Education, and Public School Preschool programs, completed a survey designed to examine their use of assessments and curricula. The 586 preschool teachers provided a range of responses, including reported use of 21 commercial assessments and self-developed and program-developed checklists. A majority of teachers listed curriculum-based measures acceptable in linking assessment and intervention. Teachers also provided a range of curricular responses, including six that met our definition of an actual curriculum. Differences were found between the three types of teachers with respect to their level of education and the total number of assessments and curricula responses, and the number of assessments (including self-developed checklists) and actual curricula used, but not years of experience.

The article is scientifically and axiologically justified by the assumption that the conceptual-methodological basis and the results in the field of intercultural psychosociology are sources and landmarks in the development of intercultural education and school curriculum. In this respect, this study highlighted relevant contributions in intercultural psychosociology, their educational and curricular impact and also explored some possibilities of developing intercultural education and reconfiguration of the school curriculum from the perspective of interculturalism. The article started from the general hypothesis that if we outline the students’ social representations, attitudes and curricular preferences concerning intercultural education of students, correlated to the European dimension of education, then it will be possible to develop the premises for action and intervention model in the field of intercultural education curricula. The general hypothesis was operationalized in four particular hypotheses that were subsequently confirmed. The research was conducted using an adapted questionnaire (InterQ) based on authors’ previous studies in the field of curriculum and was applied on a sample of 213 students from the University of Craiova. The article also includes critical analyses, personal opinions and authors' opinions on concerning socio-educational transposition of the research results from intercultural psychosociology, and also advances some directions for future research.

This article provides a critical analysis of British Columbia’s early learning curricula concerning 21st-century education and the role of digital technology in the early years. The data sources were the Premier’s Technology Council: A Vision for 21st-Century Education (Premier’s Technology Council, 2010), BC’s Education Plan (British Columbia Ministry of Education, 2011), and the Kindergarten Curriculum Package (British Columbia Ministry of Education, September 2010). Rapid advances in technology call for a review of traditional curriculum standards and active movement toward a realization of 21st-century education beyond mere vision. As children navigate an increasingly digital world, one with blurred lines between content and advertising, critical thinking and critical analysis skills are essential in order for children to effectively manage the vast amounts of information available to them. Educators and policy makers, through curricula developed reflecting digital media use, can play an important role in educating young, technologically engaged students.

Curriculum in Indonesia is always related to the constellation of power, and therefore the direction and substance of the curriculum are determined by the decision of state authorities and non-state subsystems, or complying to a certain notion and concept of education. Constellation of power and complexity of curriculum can be seen in the instruction of Competency-Based Curriculum (KBK), school-based curriculum (KTSP) and 2013 Curriculum. After all, there is no guarantee that these curriculums will be able to develop students’ competency and build their character in line with the national education goals as mandated by Law No. 20/2003 on National Education System. In fact, there is nothing wrong with the curriculum; it is the fault of policy makers of education. The Indonesian people need political will of the government. Curriculum is not the only factor that determines the quality of education. Nor is it the only tool to realize the vision of education. However, curriculum can serve as a strategic device to seed the interests of power. Changes in curriculum in fact generate a strong constellation of power in the curriculum itself, especially in determining the content of education, so no wonder education in Indonesia is “subjugated” by curriculums with business and political interests.

The European dimension in education has been a term increasingly used by the European Union and the Council of Europe to denote some of their educational policies and initiatives. It has also been a contested term in academic writing, as some researchers critique the elitist, exclusionary and Eurocentric educational implications it may have, while others welcome its pedagogic and intercultural potential. This article explores the possibilities of using the European dimension as a tool to alleviate ethnocentrism and traditional pedagogies in curricula and textbooks. To achieve this, the essay presents some principles which have been used for the development of History and Geography curricula with a European dimension in Greek Cypriot state primary schools in Cyprus. The curriculum development process drew upon the literature around the ‘political’ history of the European dimension, as well as upon academic discussions of social constructivist approaches to the notion of Europe. The principles employed to guide the curriculum development process were structured under the perspectives of curriculum location, content and pedagogy. The curricular location principles were concerned with the European dimension as a cross-curricular innovation, the question of its form within subject-based curricula and of its contextualisation within existing educational localities and contexts. Concerning content, it is proposed that such curricula need to acknowledge the constructedness and fluidity of the frontiers of nation-states and of Europe, the multiplicity and hybridity of identities, as well as Europe's socio-cultural and conflictual past. Finally, the pedagogic principles encourage critical approaches to knowledge, the development of concepts and active learning through cooperation.

Recent research with Multi-User Virtual Environments (MUVEs) in education has shown that these platforms can be effective and engaging for students; however, educators and administrators have practical concerns about the adoption of MUVE-based curricula. This study looks at implementations of EcoMUVE, a MUVE-based curriculum designed to support middle school learning of ecosystem concepts and processes. Research questions looked at teacher perceptions of the curriculum’s implementation feasibility, alignment with curricular objectives and standards, and perceived value. Results showed that EcoMUVE was very well-received, and technical issues were manageable. Teachers felt the curriculum was effective, aligned well with standards, and compared favorably with a non-MUVE alternative. Particular technological and curriculum features that contributed to EcoMUVE’s perceived value included student-directed learning, an inquiry, role-based pedagogy, immersion in the virtual environment, and the ease of collecting and comparing data with graphs.

Abstract Background Medical school curriculums are not standardized in Turkey and around the world, which results in great diversity in education. National Core Education Program (NCEP) has been prepared as a frame program and the aim of the program is to train medical doctors with basic abilities. Objective The objective of this work is to compare biochemistry curriculum based on NCEP among medical schools in Turkey. Materials and methods Twelve-question long survey was prepared. Sixty-nine out 84 medical schools were participated the study using 2017–2018 curriculum data. Biochemistry curriculums of medical schools are compared based on NCEP 2014. Results Number of biochemistry hours and content of the lectures varies among medical schools. While biochemistry was intensely studied in the first and second years of the education program, biochemistry hours and number of universities offering biochemistry have dramatically decreased after the second year. Clinical biochemistry questions had lower positive response. Accredited medical schools include NCEP subjects in their curriculum in higher ratio than the unaccredited ones. Conclusion Biochemistry curriculum shows variation among medical schools. Addition of clinical biochemistry beyond second year would improve NCEP adaptation. Multidisciplinary approach and vertical integration should be employed to improve quality of medical education.

The result of this research shows that: the concept of SDIT (Islamic integrated primary school) relies on the stakeholders, who hold the education, and self-development curriculum that relies on the needs of SDIT al-Izzah plus adjustment curriculum which relies on Islamic integrated primary school networks. The concept of curriculum which is applied in SDIT al Hanif combines three curriculums namely: the ministry of education and culture, ministry of religious affairs and the stakeholders’ curriculum.</p>

Recent research on mathematics reforms in the United States indicates that the reforms are not yet widely implemented. Generally, this claim results from looking at the extent to which teachers use curricular materials or engage in particular classroom practices. This article moves beyond disparate questions of use and practice to examine interactions between teachers and curricula as evidenced by their enactments of whole-number lessons from a Standards-based curriculum. Specifically, we analyze videorecorded 1st- and 2nd-grade classroom lessons in terms of students' opportunities to reason and communicate about mathematics. This analysis indicates that the level of fidelity to the written curriculum differs from the level of fidelity to the authors' intended curriculum during lesson enactments. Drawing on this analysis, this article explores how curricula support and hinder teachers as they engage students in opportunities to learn mathematics and how teachers' instructional moves and choices impact the enactment of curricula.

The Australian National Program Standards for Teacher Education prioritises knowledge of culturally inclusive practices and challenges the educational community to present research on well-structured, inclusive, cross-curricula education partnerships. This article meets this challenge as it explores a core unit of work for undergraduate teachers with Indigenous education as its foundation. Most importantly, the paper presented here provides an overview of how to develop culturally appropriate pedagogical practice through culturally inclusive curriculum. Both the unit of work and the paper are built on the principles of Constructive Alignment. In engaging with the article, the reader will use the 4Rs of reflection, as used by the pre-service teachers within the unit of work, to personally engage with curriculum conversations. This engagement demonstrates excellence in education design and offers clear alignment with the Australian Curriculum Studies Association's (ACSA’s) principles for Australian curriculum.

Purpose This paper tries to propose a pedagogical training program starting from the Romanian mandatory curriculum for higher education (HE) teachers, integrating education for sustainable development (ESD) competencies (UNECE, 2012) through infusion as a technique of curricular design dealing with cross-curricular subject integration. The purpose of this paper is to show how new ESD competencies can be implemented and integrated into the existent curricular formulations and how the current state of affairs can be improved and set toward sustainability. Design/methodology/approach A qualitative research design is utilized, using desk research, content analysis, case study and, as validation for the new curriculum, structured interviews with key experts. First, an assessment of the quality of the Romanian HE pedagogical training program will be presented based on teaching quality assessments from international rankings. Second, integration of ESD competencies into the existing pedagogical professional development program, through a curriculum design, will be proposed. Findings The present Romanian teacher training curriculum does not nurture ESD competencies, and it does not have this purpose at all. However, it can be affirmed that this curriculum is in accordance with the newest pedagogical theories. It will be shown (through curriculum design) that it is possible to infuse ESD competencies into the present curriculum without many costs. The present architecture of the teacher training system can be described as a good practice example concerning HE professional development or as an alternative that is worthy to be taken into consideration for other countries with similar educational systems or by countries/universities that believe that pedagogical training addressing ESD should be completed early in one’s teaching career. Research limitations/implications As a general rule, many generalizations cannot be made based on qualitative research. Case studies have their limitations: they provide in-depth research on particular situations, and only some of their findings can be extrapolated. All HE curricula represent a particular vision and are all perfectible and subject to debate. The author hopes to have provided sufficient cause for the proposed curriculum. Practical implications The new curriculum has clear and practical implications, providing the answer to the question “how can we make pedagogical training better?”. Infusing ESD into the present teacher training program constitutes a practical solution, which carries great social impact. Originality/value A new curricular architecture is proposed, a new perspective on the efficiency of pedagogical training, in general, is taken into account and, as a good practical example, the present research is a token of inspiration.

This qualitative study on the Finnish basic education curriculum (2016) had two goals. First, to survey the origins of first two new curriculum competences: 1) thinking and learning to learn, and, 2) cultural competences. Second, to analyse the local curricular implementation and comprehension in a rapid socio-cultural change. To reveal the possible data trends, two research questions were addressed: 1. What was the background of first two 2016 transversal core competencies? 2. How were those competencies implemented into a local curriculum 2016-19? The Data included basic education curricula (1985-2016), and a local curriculum. Relevant legislation, official information (e.g. PISA), parental feedback, and a questionnaire to an anonymous implementing principal comprised the curricular data. The Data triangulation was completed with a wide range of educational, cultural and ideological research. Regarding ethics, the individual sources and educational provider remained anonymous. Findings were surprising. “Modern” thinking and learning skills were created in early 20th century American society by Deweyan comprehension. However, an immigration had changed the long-lasting interpretation on the origins of Finnish culture. Moreover, local curriculum implementation was more successfully comprehended and supported. Conclusions were obvious: more identifiable research and teachers’ training were needed for curricular reforms and competences. The socio-cultural comprehension in the era of AI asked for sound arguments.

We must admit that scientific discussions have not yet led to a unanimous definition of the phenomenon, although the studies themselves are quite abundant. On the other hand, considering the social reality as being subject to constant change, it is also important to analyse the documents which are directly related to change of content of the said education. Scientific problem can be set as follows: what entrepreneurship education is provided in today’s general education school of Lithuania. Purpose – toreveal position of entrepreneurship education in Lithuanian general education curriculum and in educational process in general education school. It analysed the regulations on the Lithuanian general school curriculum content of the school year 2016-2017 in terms of the development of entrepreneurship: strategies, curricula, resources, etc. The analysis shows that in terms of modelling of curriculum formal education is aimed at training entrepreneurship following the principles of holistic approach, integrity and consistency. Lithuanian general curricula for general education are modelled in such a way that the learners integrally understand entrepreneurship, from different perspectives of subjects, as an integral competence.

For instance, MAN Yogyakarta 1 established boarding school ‘Al Hakim’ to increase horizon of students towards scientific references to Islam. The question is, how do implementation of Kemenag curriculum and boarding school curriculm impact to elevate learning outcomes of PAI. This study attempts to determine for applicating two curriculum derived from kemenag and boarding school. This study utilizes qualitative research. The results show that in practice, kemenag curriculum remains a priority rather than boarding school curriculum; impact and achievement in the implementation of two curriculum have positive impact on learning outcomes such as to have better values on cognitive, affective, and psychomotor; excess two curricula are applied properly will create more students mastering the subject matter of religion. However, drawbacks occur discrepancy between the curriculum from kemenag and boarding school because the materials are not delivered properly and allocated short time. Context: The cohort athletic training curriculum features a competency-based approach that allows the student to matriculate through the program in a systematic fashion. This method is desired as it allows for efficient delivery and mastery of the educational content and associated clinical skills. The result may be an inflexible curriculum that can be unforgiving when unforeseen circumstances arise. Objective: To introduce a unique curricular design to the undergraduate athletic training setting that is more flexible than the traditional curricular model. Background: Athletic training education has expanded and proliferated greatly since 1998. The high rate of growth resulted in programs that are similar in design. The curricular structure is based on competency-based categories whose subjects rely on each other so strongly that there is little flexibility. This rigidity can create matriculation issues for students who are unable to proceed through the program at the required pace. Synthesis: Review of the current curricular model and accompanying literature indicates a desire for a new curricular model to provide flexibility within the athletic training curriculum. Results: The Adaptive Athletic Training model provides a flexible alternative to the cohort athletic training curriculum. This design uses a holistic and problem-based approach that is more closely associated with the entry-level workplace. Limitations include its ability to conform directly to the Commission onbetter Accreditation of Athletic Training Education competency matrix and the increased academic resources needed for implementation. Recommendations: Professional athletic training education programs should examine whether their current curricular model benefits their student population in the greatest extent. If room for improvement is identified, then alternative curricular models should be explored. Conclusions: The Adaptive Athletic Training model provides a flexible curricular option when examining alternative professional athletic training education program curriculums.

In this paper, we analyze the place of gender and sexuality issues in the Pedagogical Course Projects (PPC) of ten teacher education courses at UFS, located at the Center for Human Sciences and Education (CECH), and in the specific National Curriculum Guidelines (DCN in portuguese) that are based on. We argue that the specific DCN in the humanities area, crossed by discourses of modern science and education, promoted investments in scenarios, neutral and normalizing regarding gender and sexuality in these curriculums. Not discussing gender sexuality relations, nor how to consider, directs the curriculums to materialize the norms prescribed for each biological sex, defining the appropriate and inconsiderable bodies in curricular concerns. The moment of production of the curriculum documents seems to be of light winds, of an apparent cultural calm, while different temporal pressures have already announced the arrival of the storms that moved from the margins.

Background: Time-tabled curricular contents and syllabi reflect the actual delivery of the academic programme and one of key quality components in healthcare professional education. There is a need of global evidence base of Initial Pharmacy Education and Training (IPET) curricula for assisting the advancement of IPET globally.
Objectives: To seek the differences and similarities among IPET curricula and to explore relative trends and weighting of IPET curricula globally.
Methods: Sample curricular documents were collected purposively either through a parallel survey study investigating the structures and processes of IPET globally in collaboration with the International Pharmaceutical Federation Education (FIPEd), or through research team network. Collected textual documents containing IPET curricular contents were analysed by a mixed approach of the comparative content and framework analyses, using curriculum clusters in a guideline from the PHARMINE project.
Results: IPET curricular documents were collected from 16 countries and territories. The study showed study years spent in the IPET years range from four to six years, and a sample mean of average syllabus time spent per year is 728 hours/year (excluding outlier). There was a biggest variance in the pharmacy practice cluster (PRAC) among samples, ranging from 49.3 to 12.8%, showing a significant negative correlation with the chemical science cluster (CHEM) g = -0.77 (p<.0001). Categorised further into three curricular content groups, the study identified that there was variances in a tendency of the curricular orientation of science or practice-focus between countries.
Conclusion: The study allowed a first global comparison of IPET curricula from all WHO regions, which provided a better understanding of current IPET practice and delivery across nations and established evidence base to address challenges and gaps for further improvement of IPET curriculum in any country.

It is based upon a case study involving the work of one secondary school music department where a ‘holistic’ approach to the music programme is adopted in that the work in the curriculum at Key Stages 3 and 4 is used as the basis for extended curricular work. It is concluded that the holistic approach offers an interesting and in many ways educationally beneficial alternative to the more traditional separatist approach to the curriculum and extended curriculum.

As the global burden of neurologic disease increases, educating future neurologists about the principles of global health through global health curricula is of utmost importance. However, few neurology residency training programs have developed and implemented comprehensive global health curricula. This report outlines the design, implementation, and evaluation of the University of Massachusetts Medical School neurology residency global health curriculum. Using accepted curriculum development methods and incorporating an innovative use of technology, we created a global health curriculum focused on neurology to engage trainees. The implementation of curricula and organization of elective opportunities also incorporates learning objectives and an evaluation process. The University of Massachusetts Medical School neurology global health curriculum can be used as a framework for other residency programs developing global health programs. Global health education increases young neurologists' awareness of the growing burden of neurologic disease and, subsequently, may motivate them to address the need for neurologic expertise around the world.

Institutions have an impact on the value systems of their inhabitants. A university, as an institution, exerts its influence on the undergraduates’ values, in large measure through the curriculum, which has as one of its functions teaching specific ways of looking at the world. Based on these insights, certain philosophical issues are raised regarding the impact the undergraduate curriculum is likely to have on our students with regard to their understanding and appreciation of persons. Once acquired, this understanding has considerable import for their professional practice. A survey of the undergraduate curricula in Canadian universities was conducted, and the results showed the sparse offerings in the humanities when compared to the biophysical and social sciences. The branch of learning that is most concerned with a humanistic orientation is the humanities and, at times, psychology and sociology. Recommendations are made to reorder the curriculum to provide better balance.

THIS ARTICLE INVESTIGATES the long-held assumption that Christian educators need their own curriculum orientation. Seminal documents published by Philip Jackson and Harro Van Brummelen in the nineties are analyzed against the background of a brief history of the field of curriculum theory. The author accepts Jackson's conclusion that curriculum theorists and classroom teachers are generally confused about the true nature of curriculum orientations and about the way curriculum reform takes place. Jackson's own understanding of curriculum orientations raises the bar of curriculum reform from the mere substitution of one conceptual model for another to the preference of one way of life over all others. The investigation reveals that Van Brummelen's presentation of an alternative Christian curriculum orientation both rises above Jackson's critique and is vulnerable to it. Education for Discipleship is a highly evolved alternative curriculum orientation; nevertheless, its implementation is limited to a learning community actualizing a biblical world and life point of view from a conceptual model to actual practice. This investigation suggests that substantive curriculum reform requires two-way traffic along the conduit of influence that connects faith, theoretic frameworks, curricular practice, and community life experience.

Purpose Librarians in higher education have adopted curriculum mapping in an effort to determine where effective information literacy instruction can help fill gaps in the curriculum and prepare students for both coursework and future research demands. While curriculum mapping has been used widely across academia, few studies have considered business curriculum and the development of information literacy instruction. This paper aims to provide an overview of the current landscape of curriculum mapping across business courses at two institutions and a replicable methodology for other institutions. Design/methodology/approach In this paper, the authors will examine two case studies at large research universities that evaluate curriculum mapping against the BRASS Business Research Competencies at the undergraduate and the graduate business levels. Findings This study found that the Business Research Competencies are a valid method to evaluate in both case studies. Curriculum mapping also uncovered various gaps in business education across the curricula at both institutions and led to open discussions with faculty in an effort to improve the success of students both during their degree programs and into their careers. Originality/value This study provides a framework and methodology for evaluating business curriculums against robust standards to improve student success. With examples from undergraduate and graduate programs, the results of this project promise to have long-lasting implications on the development of curriculums across business programs, including the value of librarian support in developing Business Research Competencies.

Career development learning has a demonstrable positive impact on the graduate employability of higher education learners. This is particularly the case if it is integrated into the curriculum rather than experienced as an add-on or included in finite curriculum elements. However, integration of career development learning into curriculum is a significant and challenging undertaking in course design, and also in facilitation of learning experiences. Academics manage crowded curricula in their disciplinary areas, and many also have external course accreditation requirements to deal with that may not include career development elements. In many institutions there is mixed understanding of what career development learning entails, no clear top-level strategic support, and unprecedented numbers of enrolled students across digital and on-campus provision. This article explores challenges and opportunities in integrating career development learning into curriculum in higher education, and identifies effective strategies for doing so at institutional, school, and program levels. It draws upon case studies comprising more than 30 interviews across nine universities in Australia and internationally, exploring how cross-disciplinary collaboration between career development practitioners, learning and curriculum designers, and academic units can be effective in enacting curricular career development learning at scale. The article suggests strategies for institutional leaders, academics, and careers practitioners in higher education insitutions at different stages in the curricular career development learning journey.

ObjectiveTo present (1) justification for earmarking sleep medicine education as an essential component of all medical school curricula and (2) various avenues to incorporate sleep medicine exposure into medical school curricula through (primarily) neuroscience and neurology courses.MethodsPer consensus of a team of leading neurology and sleep medicine educators, an evidence-based rationale for including sleep medicine across a 4-year medical school curriculum is presented along with suggested content, available/vetted resources, and formats for delivering sleep medicine education at various points and through various formats.ResultsGrowing evidence has linked sleep disorders (e.g., sleep-disordered breathing, chronic insufficient sleep) as risk factors for several neurologic disorders. Medical educators in neurology/neuroscience are now strongly advocating for sleep medicine education in the context of neurology/neuroscience pre and post graduate medical education. Sleep medicine education is also a critical component of a proactive strategy to address physician wellness and burnout. The suggested curriculum proposes a sleep educational exposure time of 2–4 hours per year in the form of lectures, flipped-classroom sessions, clinical opportunities, and online educational tools that would result in a 200%–400% increase in the amount of sleep medicine exposure that US medical schools currently provide. The guidelines are accompanied by the recommendation for use of technological education, to facilitate more seamless curricular incorporation.ConclusionEven in this era with limited flexibility to add content to an already packed medical school curriculum, incorporating sleep medicine exposure into the current medical school curriculum is both justified and feasible.

Debate over subject curricula is apt to descend into internecine squabbles over which (whose?) curriculum is best. Especially so with school English, because its domain(s) of knowledge have commonly been misunderstood, or, perhaps, misrepresented in the government’s programmes of study. After brief consideration of democratic education (problems of its form and meaning), I turn to issues of knowledge and disciplinarity, outlining two conceptions of knowledge – the one constitutive and phenomenological, the other stipulative and social-realist. Drawing on Michael Young and Johan Muller, I argue that, by social-realist standards of objectivity, school English in England -- as currently framed in national curriculum documents -- falls short of the standards of ‘powerful knowledge’ and of a democratic education conceived as social justice. Having considered knowledge and disciplinarity in broad terms, I consider the curricular case of school English, for it seems to me that the curious position of English in our national curriculum has resulted in a model that is either weakly, perhaps even un-, rooted in the network of academic disciplines that make up English studies.

Hence, adjustments in the basic education curriculum also calls for adjustments in the higher education curriculum to ensure the continuity of the learning process after transitioning from senior high school to tertiary education. Philippine Higher Educational Institutions is challenged everyday with the series of developments happening in the country. As such, adapting to these developments must be captured though curricular reforms in the PHEI curriculum. This short reflection deals with the adjustments made by the higher education in the Philippines in order to align themselves with the curricular reforms made in the basic education.

The paper focuses on enhancing quality through the harmonization of business education curricular across the globe and Nigerian universities in particular. 35 graduate students from three tertiary institutions were randomly selected and 15 lecturers in business education were the sample subjects. The survey method was used to determine the effects of lack of uniformity in business education curriculum at graduate level the mean and standard deviation were used to analyze the items. The t-test statistics method was also used. It was found out that there was lack of uniformity in the curricula of business education at graduate level among other things. The paper recommends that supervisory authorities should harmonize the curricula of business education to ensure uniformity in tertiary institutions particularly at graduate level and to enhance and ensure quality of the programme. It also recommends that 80% of the course content in the core option areas be incorporated into the curriculum to enhance performance and learning outcome and avoid functional dilemma of expectation and realities.
