Abstract:
Murraya koenigii (L.) Spreng., a small, strong-smelling umbrageous tree with subcampanulate white flowers belonging to the family Rutaceae, is native to India and southeastern Asia (2). It is distributed across the Indian subcontinent excluding the higher elevations of the Himalayas. In India, the leaves are mainly used for culinary purposes. The leaves are commonly known as curry leaves or ‘sweet neem’. The whole plant including bark, root, leaves, fruits, and fruit pulp is used medicinally. This plant was reported to be a host of Citrus tristeza virus (1). In a survey of potyvirus incidence in the northwestern Himalaya foothills of the Kangra and Hamirpur districts in the state of Himachal Pradesh in 2004, M. koenigii plants showing mosaic symptoms on leaves, typical of a virus infection, were frequently observed. Symptomatic leaves were tested for the presence of several viruses using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay with specific antibodies. Positive results were obtained with potyvirus group specific antibodies (Agdia, Elkhardt, IN) in triplicate analyses of 5 of 15 leaf samples tested. To further identify the infecting virus, RNA from plants was tested using universal potyvirus primer pair P9502 and CPUP (3) and reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction to amplify a genome fragment encoding portions of the coat protein and the 3′UTR (3). An amplification product of the expected size (~800 bp) was obtained. The product was cloned into the pGem-T easy vector (Promega, Madison, WI), and three clones were sequenced. The sequence (GenBank Accession No. AJ852504) had 92% identity to Chili vein banding mottle virus, a potyvirus infecting pepper reported from Thailand (GenBank Accession No. U72193). Background is provided to the selection of ecological indicators by the IndiSeas Working Group, and the methodology adopted for analysis and comparison of indicators across exploited marine ecosystems is documented. The selected indicators are presented, how they are calculated is explained, and the philosophy behind the comparative approach is given. The combination of selected indicators is intended to reflect different dynamics, tracking processes that display differential responses to fishing, and is meant to provide a complementary means of assessing marine ecosystem trends and states. IndiSeas relied on inputs and insights provided by the local experts from participating ecosystems, helping to understand state and trend indicators and to disentangle the effect of other potential ecosystem drivers, such as climate variability. This project showed that the use of simple and available indicators under an ecosystem approach can achieve a real, wide-reaching evaluation of marine ecosystem status caused by fishing. This is important because the socio-economics of areas where fishing activities develop differs significantly around the globe, and in many countries, insufficient data are available for complex and exhaustive analyses.

Abstract:
The paper focused on the description of the reduced graphene oxide (rGO) structure. This material is obtained from a multistage production process. Each of these stages has a large impact on its structure (the number and type of functional groups, number of defect or the size of the flakes), and this in turn affects its properties. We would like to visualize the reduced graphene oxide, both using a diagram showing the atomic structure, as well as by imaging using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). Abstract:
On 16 December 2015 a severe thunderstorm and associated tornado affected Sydney causing widespread damage and insured losses of $206 million. Severe impacts occurred in Kurnell, requiring repairs to Sydney's desalination plant which supplies up to 15% of Sydney water during drought, with repairs only completed at the end of 2018. Climatologically, this storm was unusual as it occurred during the morning and had developed over the ocean, rather than developing inland during the afternoon as is the case for many severe storms impacting the Sydney region. Simulations of the Kurnell storm were conducted using the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model on a double nested domain using the Morrison microphysics scheme and the NSSL 2-moment 4-ice microphysics scheme. Both simulations produced severe storms that followed paths similar to the observed storm. However, the storm produced under the Morrison scheme did not have the same morphology as the observed storm. Meanwhile, the storm simulated with the NSSL scheme displayed cyclical low- and mid-level mesocyclone development, which was observed in the Kurnell storm, highlighting that the atmosphere supported the development of severe rotating thunderstorms with the potential for tornadogenesis. The NSSL storm also produced severe hail and surface winds, similar to observations. The ability of WRF to simulate general convective characteristics and a storm similar to that observed displays the applicability of this model to study the causes of severe high-impact Australian thunderstorms. Abstract:
Bacterial leaf scorch caused by Xylella fastidiosa has been reported in 17 species of oak including bur, pin, red, scarlet, shingle, and white oaks (3). In September 2002, a leaf scorch symptom characterized by marginal necrosis of leaves bordered by a darker brown band was observed in a mature black oak (Quercus velutina Lam.) at the U.S. National Arboretum in Washington, D.C. The leaf petiole of the black oak was processed in general extraction buffer (Agdia, Inc., Elkhart, IN) contained in a FastDNA lysing matrix tube using the FastPrep FP120 instrument (Qbiogene, Inc., Carlsbad, CA) (1). The leaf petiole extract reacted with an antiserum specific for X. fastidiosa (Agadia, Inc.) in an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). A slow-growing bacterium was cultured from leaf petioles of the affected black oak tree by soaking the surface-sterilized, finely cut leaf petioles in sterile water for 30 min, followed by spreading the bacterial suspension on periwinkle wilt plates (1). When the cultured bacterium was subjected to polymerase chain reaction (PCR) with primers specific for X. fastidiosa (2), a 472-bp PCR product was detected. The PCR product was confirmed to be the predicted X. fastidiosa product by sequencing and sequence comparison with the reported genomic sequence of X. fastidiosa. ELISA and bacterial isolation from leaf petioles of a nearby symptomless white oak (Q. alba L.) tree were negative. To our knowledge, this is the first report of X. fastidiosa associated with leaf scorch in black oak in the United States, expanding the host range of the bacterium in economically important landscape tree species. Abstract:
Self-regulation for pre-school children is very important to support children’s adjustments in all situations and conditions. The current problem is the instrument of self-regulation is more focused on regulation in learning which is not suitable for young children. This study aims to examine the validity and reliability of Preschool Self-Regulation Assessment (PSRA) in Indonesia by modifying several children self-regulation theories. The instrument was translated from English into Indonesian and it retranslated into the native language by linguists. The questions, then, were validated through a process of professional judgment and cognitive de-briefing. The study was carried out to 179 children aged 6 to 7 years old. Data were analyzed by using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). It showed that there are 5 dimensions of children's self-regulation, namely: attentional focus, behavioral control, self-motivated, self-autonomy and emotional control. The result showed that the five-dimensional model is agreed with the data and prove to measure children’s self-regulation. Cronbach’s alpha coefficient value was 0.899, indicating high scale reliability. Thus, the pre-school children’s self-regulation assessment has well psychometric for further use. ABSTRACT The diketo acid L-708,906 has been reported to be a selective inhibitor of the strand transfer step of the human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) integration process (D. Hazuda, P. Felock, M. Witmer, A. Wolfe, K. Stillmock, J. A. Grobler, A. Espeseth, L. Gabryelski, W. Schleif, C. Blau, and M. D. Miller, Science 287:646-650, 2000). We have now studied the development of antiviral resistance to L-708,906 by growing HIV-1 strains in the presence of increasing concentrations of the compound. The mutations T66I, L74M, and S230R emerged successively in the integrase gene. The virus with three mutations (T66I L74M S230R) was 10-fold less susceptible to L-708,906, while displaying the sensitivity of the wild-type virus to inhibitors of the RT or PRO or viral entry process. Chimeric HIV-1 strains containing the mutant integrase genes displayed the same resistance profile as the in vitro-selected strains, corroborating the impact of the reported mutations on the resistance phenotype. Phenotypic cross-resistance to S-1360, a diketo analogue in clinical trials, was observed for all strains. Interestingly, the diketo acid-resistant strain remained fully sensitive to V-165, a novel integrase inhibitor (C. Pannecouque, W. Pluymers, B. Van Maele, V. Tetz, P. Cherepanov, E. De Clercq, M. Witvrouw, and Z. Debyser, Curr. Biol. 12:1169-1177, 2002). Antiviral resistance was also studied at the level of recombinant integrase. Single mutations did not appear to impair specific enzymatic activity. However, 3′ processing and strand transfer activities of the recombinant integrases with two (T66I L74M) and three (T66I L74M S230R) mutations were notably lower than those of the wild-type integrase. Although the virus with three mutations was resistant to inhibition by diketo acids, the sensitivity of the corresponding enzyme to L-708,906 or S-1360 was reduced only two- to threefold. As to the replication kinetics of the selected strains, the replication fitness for all strains was lower than that of the wild-type HIV-1 strain.

Two Permian-Triassic boundary (PTB) successions, Lung Cam in Vietnam, and Lukač in Slovenia, have been sampled for high-resolution magnetic susceptibility, stable isotope and elemental chemistry, and biostratigraphic analyses. These successions are located on the eastern (Lung Cam section) and western margins (Lukač section) of the Paleo-Tethys Ocean during PTB time. Lung Cam, lying along the eastern margin of the Paleo-Tethys Ocean provides an excellent proxy for correlation back to the GSSP and out to other Paleo-Tethyan successions. This proxy is tested herein by correlating the Lung Cam section in Vietnam to the Lukač section in Slovenia, which was deposited along the western margin of the Paleo-Tethys Ocean during the PTB interval. It is shown herein that both the Lung Cam and Lukač sections can be correlated and exhibit similar characteristics through the PTB interval. Using time-series analysis of magnetic susceptibility data, high-resolution ages are obtained for both successions, thus allowing relative ages, relative to the PTB age at ~252 Ma, to be assigned. Evaluation of climate variability along the western and eastern margins of the Paleo-Tethys Ocean through the PTB interval, using d18O values indicates generally cooler climate in the west, below the PTB, changing to generally warmer climates above the boundary. Abstract:
The elusive fiction of J. M. Coetzee is not a work in which you can read fixed ethical stances. I suggest testing the potentialities of a logic based on frames and double binds in Coetzee's novels. A double bind is a dilemma in communication which consists on tho conflicting messages, with the result that you can’t successfully respond to neither. Jacques Derrida highlighted the strategic value of a way of thinking based on the double bind (but on frames as well), which enables to escape binary thinking and so it opens an ethical space, where you can make a choice out of a set of fixed rules and take responsibility for it. In Coetzee’s fiction the author himself can be considered in a double bind, seeing that he is a white South African writer who feels that his “task” can’t be as simply as choosing to represent faithfully the violence and the racism of the apartheid or of choosing to give a voice to the oppressed. Good intentions alone do not ensure protection against entering unwittingly into complicity with the dominant discourse, and this is why is important to make the frame in which one is always situated clearly visible and explicit. The logic of the double bind becomes the way in which moral problem are staged in Coetzee’s fiction as well: the opportunity to give a voice to the oppressed through the same language which co-opted to serve the cause of oppression, a relation with the otherness never completed, or the representability of evil in literature, of the secret and of the paradoxical implications of confession and forgiveness.

T. S. Eliot (1888-1966), j. L. Borges (1899-1986), milan dedinac (19021966), marko ristic (1902-1984), rene char (1907-1988), octavio paz (ne 1914) et branko miljkovic (1934-1961) : sept poetes contemporains, de sensibilite differente qui se sont tous nourris de la philosophie d'heraclite. Leur relation au penseur d'ephese qui "ecrivit en un style poetique" (suidas, encyclopedie litteraire byzantine) est examine pour la premiere fois dans cette etude. Les ecrits de ces sept poetes sont fondes sur la vision du monde comme l'unite des contraires et leurs ecrits prennent cette vision comme point de depart. Dans ce concept de transformationet du mouvement ininterrompu est enserree l'essence de l'activite poetique et cette recherche s'oriente vers la decouverte des rencontres de la poesie et de la philosophie. Diogene laerte (iiie siecle) a attribue a heraclite titre "le livre des muses", et ce titre sera justifie par l'influence de la pensee d'heraclite sur des poetes: latins, anglais et espagnols du baroque, romantique allemands du xviiie et enfin du xxeme siecle. Borges (1899-1986), milan dedinac (1902 -1966), marko ristic (1902-1984), rene char (1907-1988), octavic paz (born 1914) and branko miljkovic (1934-1961): seven contemporaries, each with a distinct poetic sensibility, all nourished on the philosophy of heraclitus. Their relationship with the philosopher from ephes "who wrote like a poet" (suidas, byzantine literary encyclopedia) is examined for the first time in this study. These poets' writings were based on a vision of the world as a unity of contrasts - much of what they tried to express took this vision as a point of departure. It is in this concept of uninterrupted movement and transformation that the essence of poetic activity resides: this research is oriented towards the discovery of the points where poetry and philosophy meet. One of the titles ascribed to heraclitus' work was "the muses" (diogenes laertius, 3rd century a. D. ), a title that would be justified by the book's influence on later poets- latin, english and spaniards in the baroque, german in the xviii century and poets of xxth century. Guillermo Carnero, Leopoldo María Panero et Jaime Siles, réunis autour de l’objectif de rénovation poétique, modulent un dialogue continu avec la poésie française, inspirés par la modernité de la fin du XIXe siècle et ses artisans : Baudelaire, Gautier, Mallarmé et Rimbaud. Coming to light in the 1970s, the Novísimos generation eclipses many decades of cultural suffocation by breaking formal constraint and linguistic codes. If a certain form of liquidation seems to be initially at work, the culture of silence and emptiness soon provides fertile ground for rebirth. Gathered around the common goal of poetic renewal, Guillermo Carnero, Leopoldo María Panero and Jaime Siles are in constant dialogue with French poets, more precisely with late nineteenth-century Modernists such as Baudelaire, Gautier, Mallarmé and Rimbaud. As a sort of cultural mosaic, the poem not only brings together paintings and verses, rhythm and colour, but also confronts the most erudite references with the intermingling of idioms and popular elements. This multiplication of meanings leads to a poetic language that attains universality and questions the poem and its main players. La Mosaïque jaune (Potyvirus) constitue actuellement la principale virose du Haricot en raison de l'importance des pertes en quantité et qualité qu'elle occasionne, de sa fréquence, de son extension géographique, de sa facilité de dissémination par pucerons et de la forte sensibilité de la plupart des cultivars disponibles. Ce virus peut infecter de nombreuses autres espèces végétales, dont le Pois. D'où des efforts importants de sélection consentis par les Améliorateurs. Les travaux exposés dans cette thèse ont deux buts : 1) mieux connaître les populations virales présentes dans le Bassin parisien et «utilisées» en Sélection, par : la caractérisation symptomatologique et biologique d'isolats, sur une gamme d'hôtes différentiels conséquente, l'étude de leurs incidences agronomiques réelles sur quelques cultivars, la purification et la caractérisation des particules virales, la préparation d'antisera et la réalisation d'épreuves sérologiques discriminantes. 2) envisager certains paramètres épidémiologiques de la maladie, à partir des isolats plus spécialement retenus, au moyen de : l'examen approfondi, au champ et sous serre, du comportement, en cas d'infection, d'une collection des cultivars de Haricot et de Pois actuellement les plus importants, l'analyse du phénomène de "translocation" virale chez quelques cultivars, après contamination à différents niveaux et moments, l'étude de la transmission virale par pucerons (Myzus persicae et Aphis fabae) et par semences. Les résultats obtenus permettent de mieux caractériser les populations de VMJH existantes et de fournir des renseignements épidémiologiques sur le comportement de nombreux cultivars. Bean Yellow Mosaic Virus (BYMV, a Potyvirus) is today the most severe disease affecting the bean on account of the damage caused, of its frequency, geographical extension, and easy dissemination by aphids, and of the high susceptibility of most cultivars available. This virus may contaminate many other plant species including peas, thus encouraging breeders to emphasize selection for resistance to this disease. The purpose of the works presented in this thesis was 1/ To gain à better understanding of the virus populations occurring in the Paris Basin and involved in breeding, by the symptomatological and biological characterization of isolates on a wide range of differential hosts, the study of their actual agricultural impact on a few cultivars, the purification and characterization of virus particles, the preparation of antisera, and the carrying out of discriminatory serological tests. 2/ To examine certain epidemiological parameters of the disease, from certain isolates, by carrying out: a field and glasshouse study of the post-infection behaviour of some of the currently most important bean and pea cultivars, an analysis of virus translocation in a few cultivars after contamination at various levels and times, a study of the virus transmission by aphids (Mysus persicae and Aphis fabae) and by seeds. The results obtained allow a better characterization of the BYMV populations available and provide epidemiological information about the behaviour of many cultivars. Therefore, they also yield concrete information which should aid breeders in devising better schemes for the use of resistance sources taking into account the variability of this potyvirus

Abstract:
This dissertation is concerned with the relationship between the trumpet and organ in twentieth-century music for this ensemble and how that relationship effects performance with regard to organ registration and synchronization. The compositions discussed include "The Other Voices of the Trumpet," by Daniel Pinkham (1971); "Jericho: Battle Music," by William Albright (1976); "Three Pictures of Satan," by Jere Hutcheson (1975); and "Okna," by Petr Eben (1980). The theoretical writings of Pierre Boulez, Robert Erickson, and Donald Cogan deal with developing a contemporary concept of texture. This dissertation applies their theory that texture exists in two dimensions: vertical and horizontal. Stratification and blending of timbres comprise the vertical dimension. The succession of textures, governed by tempo, creates the second dimension. Chapter I provides an historical setting for the genre, introduces the theory of Boulez, Erickson, and Cogan, and supplies the programmatic content of the four works chosen for analysis. In Chapter II , the vertical elements of texture in these four works are isolated and examined. Chapter III deals with Pierre Boulez's theory that the succession of textures, governed by tempo, shapes the work. Each work is examined with regard to tempo, either mobile (fluctuating) or fixed. In Chapter IV the analysis is related to performance. Stratified textures, fused ensemble timbres, and their horizontal progression present problems for the ensemble in organ registration and synchronization. There are general guidelines given for registration as well as specific registration problems encountered in stratified textures and fused ensemble timbres. Synchronization, or coordination of events is the second challenge presented by the horizontal progression of textures.

Abstract:
Waste heat can be directly converted into electrical energy by performing the Olsen cycle on pyroelectric materials. The Olsen cycle consists of two isothermal and two isoelectric field processes in the electric displacement versus electric field diagram. This paper reports on the energy harvested by lanthanum doped lead zirconate titanate (8/65/35 PLZT) subjected to the Olsen cycle. The material was alternatively dipped into a cold and a hot silicone oil bath under specified electric fields. A maximum energy density of 770 J/L per cycle corresponding to a power density of 9.6 W/L was obtained for temperatures between 25 and 160°C and electric fields cycled between 0.2 and 4.5 MV/m.

Abstract:
Abstract Human’s motion and its mechanisms had become interesting in the last years, where the medecine’s field search for rehabilitation methods for handicapped persons. Other fields, like sport sciences, professional or military world, search to distinguish profiles and ways to train them with specific purposes. Besides, recent findings in neuroscience try to describe these mechanisms from an organic point of view. Until now, different researchs had given a model about control motor that describes how the union between the senses’s information allows adaptable movements. One of this sense is the proprioception, the sense which has a quite big factor in the orientation and position of the body, its members and joints. For this reason, research for new strategies to explore proprioception and improve the theories of human motion could be done by three different vias. At first, the sense is analysed in a case-study where three groups of persons are compared in a controlled enviroment with three experimental tasks. The subjects belong to each group by the kind of sport they do: sedentary, normal sportsmen (e.g. athletics, swimming) and martial sportmen (e.g. karate, judo). They are compared thinking about the following hypothesis: “Martial Sportmen have a better proprioception than of the other groups’s subjects: It could be due to the type of exercises they do in their sports as empirically, a contact sportsman shows significantly superior motor skills to the members of the other two groups. The second via are records from encephalogram (EEG) while the experimental tasks are doing. These records are analised a posteriori with a set of processing algorithms to extract characteristics about brain’s activity of the proprioception and motion control. Finally , the study tries to integrate graphic tools to make easy to understand final scientific results which allow us to explore the brain activity of the subjects through easy interfaces (e.g. space-time events, activity intensity, connectivity, specific neural netwoks or anormal activity). In the future, this application could be a complement to assist doctors, researchers, sports center specialists and anyone who must improve the health and movements of handicapped persons. Abstract:
Design guidance for high pressure components, has undergone a dramatic change with the release of ASME Section VIII division 3 pressure vessel code. For the first time, a thorough design criteria is available for design of thick wall pressure vessels. The most critical components of a design are safety and reliability. Ultra high-pressure vessels, in most cases, do not have an “infinite” life. The design must therefore be “leak before break” and a design cycle life must be specified. This paper looks at the effects of fatigue on commercial high-pressure tubing under tri-axial fatigue. The tubing investigated is 316 stainless steel 9/16″ and 3/8″ diameter 4100 bar (60,000 psi) tubing. The testing was performed using a tri-axial fatigue machine originally designed by Dr. B. Crossland, Dr. J. L. M. Morrison and Dr. J. S. C. Perry in 1960 and upgraded by the Author. This investigation compares the fatigue life prediction per KD3 in the ASME pressure vessel code Section VIII division 3 and actual test results from the fatigue machine. This verification gives important reliability data for commercial hardware used in high-pressure piping.

The building-street interface lies on the edge between two distinctively different spatial domains, the house and the street, and provides a buffer which may be adjusted to aid the transition from private to public territory. The structure of the space impacts both domains: it provides a fit transition from the private dwelling to the public territory, creates a space for probabilistic encounters between inhabitants and strangers, and maintains the liveability of the public street. The aim of this paper is threefold: Firstly, we recognise morphological differences in the structure of the interfaces and the way the transition from private to public territory was envisioned and designed in different societal periods. Secondly, we study incremental changes to the interface, representing individual adjustments to the private-public boundary, in order to recognize common types of adaptations to the existing structure of the interface. The history of changes to each individual building and building-street interface was traced by analysing planning applications and enforcements publicly provided by the city council. Lastly, we compare the capacity of each building-street interface to accommodate incremental change to the public-private transition. We argue that studying the incremental change of the interface and the capacity of each interface to accommodate micro-scale transformations aids in the understanding of the complex social relationship between an individual and a collective in the urban environment. The study of the properties of nonlinear optics (ONL) has been highlighted as a line of research of great importance for the nanotechnology, and the magnitude of the first hyperpolarizability (ꞵ) is strongly related to properties of interest for this area. Molecular modeling has shown a useful tool to assist in the design of materials with ONL applications. Thus, we have calculated using computational chemistry methods (DFT - through the functionals B3LYP and CAM-B3LYP - and MP2) electrical properties, such as the first hyperpolarisability (ꞵ), as well as evaluating the inclusion of the solvent effect, in an attempt to determine a suitable methodology for reproducing the values obtained experimentally, which may assist in the design of new compounds with improved properties. The set of molecules evaluated comprised small aromatic compounds that contain acceptor groups (of the cyanovinyl type) and electron donors, which were previously investigated experimentally in solution (DMSO solvent) by Singer et al. (K. D. Singer, J. E. Sohn, L. A. King, H. M. Gordon, H. E. Katz, C. W. Dirk, J. Opt. Soc. Am. B 6, 1339, 1989). The DFT functional CAM-B3LYP performed well in relation to the method with the highest computational demand MP2. The inclusion of the solvent effect (SMD method) was important to obtain results comparable to the experimental results.

RESUMO A abordagem sistêmica é um processo interdisciplinar, cujo princípio primordial é compreender a interdependência recíproca e relações de todas as áreas e da necessidade de sua integração, permitindo maior aproximação entre os seus limites de estudo. Nesse contexto o olhar sistêmico, da ergonomia, sobretudo no que se refere à segurança, ao conforto e à eficácia de uso, de funcionalidade e de operacionalidade dos objetos, considerando todos os produtos ou sistemas de produtos, como sistema de uso, desde os mais simples aos mais complexos ou sistêmicos, tem como objetivo adequá-los aos seres humanos, tendo em vista as atividades e tarefas exercidas por eles. No que se refere ao design funcional, os conhecimentos da ergonomia, nessa visão sistêmica, relativos à sua metodologia de projeto, são absolutamente necessários, e a sua aplicação aponta a melhor adequação dos produtos aos seus usuários. Como é o caso do vestuário feminino funcional, sobretudo no que se refere a proteção das mamas, que são peças convencionais que necessitam de um correto dimensionamento e especificação dos tecidos e de outros materiais. É um tipo de vestuário que apresenta funcionalidade diversa, como para a proteção física, o aumento do volume da mama, enchimento no bojo de pano, de água, de óleo, estruturado com arame, etc.; para amamentação (sutiã que se abre na frente, em parte ou totalmente); para o design inclusivo (pessoas com deficiência e mobilidade reduzida, no caso de mamas com prótese ou órtese) facilitando com fechamentos e aberturas colocadas em peças de roupas difíceis de manusear, roupas confortáveis e fáceis de vestir. São peças usadas por pessoas com biótipos e percentis antropométricos variáveis e com características corporais que mudam significativamente nas passagens para a adolescência, idade adulta e idosa. As mudanças corporais apresentam diferenças significativas em termos de volume das mamas, nas quais as soluções ergonômicas por uma abordagem sistêmicas que se evidencia mais para a complexidade de uso, são as mais necessárias em termos de atributos como, segurança, conforto, comodidade corporal, facilidade do vestir, funcionalidade, além da estética. Esta pesquisa, embora exploratória e descritiva, não isenta de desafios, tem por objetivo, por meio de dados e informações ergonômicas sistêmicas contribuir com o design funcional, de modo a oferecer subsídios para a confecção de roupas funcionais ou tecnologia vestível, com os atributos citados, respeitando a diversidade e inclusão das pessoas em todas as fases de sua vida, atendendo assim os princípios formais do design. The importance of the parcel (also referred to as ‘plot’ or ‘lot’) as one of the fundamental elements of urban form is well recognized within the field of urban morphology. It has been described as a basic element in the pattern of land divisions that works as an organizational grid for urban form. One of the distinctive features of the parcel is its dual character: it means both a legal unit defining property rights and a physical entity. In urban fabrics, these dimensions act together to drive the evolution of built space. In this paper, we will investigate the entanglements of the morphological and the legislative definitions of the term, with the aim to resolve these, we better can address and compare the vital layer of parcels in different urban contexts, by both identifying common properties of the notion parcels, and dealing with variations in its legal framework in different countries. What we aim to capture with such a comprehensive definition is the relation between urban form and generic functions, which mainly concerns the functions of occupation and movement, where the system of parcels can be identified as spaces that embed an affordance for occupancy in cities of most kinds. The intended outcome of the paper is to unveil the power of the dual nature of the parcel, bridging between spatial and non-spatial dimensions of cities, that is, more precisely, a potential to establish a stronger interface between urban design and planning practice. Abstract The fracture behavior of a circumferential surface crack in an elbow was evaluated using past data from the International Piping Integrity Research Group (IPIRG-2) Experiment 2-4. The elbow tested was nominal 16-inch diameter Schedule 100 TP304 material, which was solution-annealed after final fabrication. The elbow was loaded with an in-plane-closing bending moment and internal pressure of 15.51 MPa (2,250 psig) at 288 C (550 F). The surface crack was 180-degrees on the ID surface and centered on the extrados, but after fatigue precracking the depth was variable and the greatest was at about 45-degrees from the extrados. FE analysis of the IPIRG-2 elbow test was conducted with a state-of-the-art and precise 3D FE mesh (including variable surface crack depth, variable thickness, and initial elbow ovalization). The flaw depth for the single-edge notch tension (SENT) tests was selected to be equivalent to the deepest point in the elbow specimen crack front that provided the largest J-value in the elbow experiment, i.e., ao/W = 0.68. Comparison of the J-value for initiation (Ji) and crack-tip-opening displacement (CTODi) at crack initiation suggested that there was a slight difference in constraint between an identical depth SENT specimen (a/W = 0.68 with the same L-R orientation as the surface crack in the pipe) and an elbow with a circumferential surface crack (a/t = 0.68) [Ji was 0.368 MN/m, (2.1 ksi-inch) in the SENT tests, while it was 0.490 MN-m (2.8 ksi-inch) in the elbow test]. The more significant finding in this work was that the compact tension (C(T)) test Ji-value was much higher at 1.086 MN/m (6.2 ksi-inch) or ∼3 times higher. The elbow to SENT to C(T) specimen comparison illustrates very large differences in constraint between these geometries. From past work by several researchers it was determined that the constraint in C(T) specimens gives Ji-values that agree well with a circumferential through-wall crack in a straight pipe, but this difference with surface-cracked elbow or pipe is envisaged to be new information to the international research community. Additionally, from state-of-the-art FE analysis of the 180-degree surface-cracked elbow test it was found that the maximum J-value occurs at a position that was about 45-degree away from the extrados location. This trend showed that caution should be exercised when selecting the crack locations for elbow integrity evaluation, since for shorter flaw lengths it may be more critical to consider a crack that is closer to the 45-degrees from the extrados, which could be true for fracture as well as stress corrosion cracking (SCC) elbow evaluations.

Abstract An operator in the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS) required sufficient zonal isolation around a casing shoe to accommodate subsequent targeted injection operations. Located in the Ivar Aasen field, and classified as critical, the well had a 9 ⅝-in. casing shoe set in the depleted Skagerrak 2 reservoir. The lost circulation risk was high during cementing because the Hugin formation, located above the reservoir, contained 40 m [~ 131.2 ft] of highly porous and permeable sandstone. During previous operations in the field, lost circulation was observed before and during the casing running and cementing operations. After unsuccessful attempts to cure the losses with various lost circulation materials, a new solution was proposed to target the specific lost circulation problem by combining two types of reinforced composite mat pill (RCMP) technology. Specifically, the first type of RCMP technology was engineered for use in the viscous preflush spacer, and the second was applied to the cement slurry itself. Working in synergy, the RCMP systems mitigated the risk of incomplete zonal isolation. With no losses observed upon reaching total depth (TD) for the 12 ¼-in. hole, the 9 ⅝-in. casing was run with a reamer shoe and 15 rigid centralizers. Between 2700 and 2728 m [~ 8,858 and 8,950 ft] measured depth (MD), the rig observed constant drag of 30 to 40 MT whilst working the casing down, and circulation was completely lost before partial returns were eventually observed. The rig continued to work the string down to the planned landing depth at 3897 m [~ 12,785 ft] MD. Precementing circulation ensued with staged pump rates increasing at 100-L/min [~ 0.6-bbl/min] intervals up to 1400 L/min [~ 8.8 bbl/min], which induced losses at a rate of 6.5 m3/hour [~ 40 bbl/hour]). Subsequently, the flow rate was reduced to 1300 L/min [~ 8.1 bbl/min], and the annular volume was circulated 2.6 times with full returns. Attempts to reduce equivalent circulating density (ECD) ahead of the cementing operation were implemented at 1300 L/min [~ 8.1 bbl/min] using a low-density, low-rheology oil-based drilling fluid pill. However, a significant loss rate of 18.0 m3/hour [~113 bbl/hour] was observed. The flow rate was reduced to 950 L/min [~ 6.0 bbl/min], and partial circulation was recovered. After the spacer and cement had reached the annulus, full returns were immediately observed and continued until the top plug was successfully bumped. Acoustic logging determined that the operation had achieved the primary job objective of establishing the required length of hydraulically isolating cement in the annulus. Lost circulation is a costly problem that can be difficult to solve, even with the wide variety of technologies available (Vidick, B., Yearwood, J. A., and Perthuis, H. 1988. How To Solve Lost Circulation Problems. SPE-17811-MS). This case study demonstrates a successful solution. The operator will be able to incorporate lessons learned and best practices into future operations, and these lessons and practices will be useful to other operators with similar circumstances.

AbstractThe urgency for developing a circular economy is growing, and more and more companies and organisations are concerned with the importance of adapting their business to fit a changing economy. However, many analyses on the circular economy are still rather abstract and there is a lack of understanding about what circularity would mean for specific industries. This insufficient insight especially seems to be apparent in the building and construction sector. Besides, the building and construction sector is responsible for a major part of energy use and emissions. To tackle the issue of insufficient insight into the business consequences of circular devlopments, further research is necessary. Therefore, we propose to collaborate on a research project that aims to provide a more detailed level of analysis. The goal is to identify drivers and barriers to make better use of materials in the building and construction sector. This further research would benefit from an international collaboration between universities of applied sciences and industry from different European countries.
