Computer Aided Geometric Design (CAGD) of surfaces sometimes presents problems that were not envisioned in classical differential geometry. This paper presents mathematical results that pertain to the design of curvature continuous blending surfaces. Curvature continuity across normal continuous surface patches requires that normal curvatures agree along all tangent directions at all points of the common boundary of two patches, called the linkage curve. The Linkage Curve theorem proved here shows that, for the blend to be curvature continuous when it is already normal continuous, it is suffic

AbstractElastostatic problems of Bernoulli–Euler nanobeams, involving internal kinematic constraints and discontinuous and/or concentrated force systems, are investigated by the stress-driven nonlocal elasticity model. The field of elastic curvature is output by the convolution integral with a special averaging kernel and a piecewise smooth source field of elastic curvature, pointwise generated by the bending interaction. The total curvature is got by adding nonelastic curvatures due to thermal and/or electromagnetic effects and similar ones. It is shown that fields of elastic curvature, assoc

In tunnel excavation, the use of rockbolts has long been a popular means of reinforcement in rock masses to prevent the rock opening from caving in. The idea has evolved from the earliest form of rockbolt made of wood to the more up-to-date form of pre-tensioned or grouted steel rockbolts. A major breakthrough in the design of rockbolt models was made by Aydan (1989). This rockbolt element was modelled in coupled form, with one sub-element representing the steel bolt, and the other sub-element the grout. This representation was necessary to model the complex action in the continuous rock mass

This paper investigates trajectory generation for curvature continuous paths. A car-like wheeled robot platform is considered. Planning is performed using a single B-spline curve that maintains continuity through the path. Constraints such as bounded curvature, velocity, and acceleration limits are considered. We minimize the traversal time while maintaining continuity and obeying the robot's constraints. Simulation experiments were successfully conducted to verify the efficiency and robustness of this approach.

Indeed this mismatch between nature and humanly invented devices gives immediate explanation as to why interpolation is a signal reconstruction technique that has quite substantial and general relevance. Abstract Curvature continuity of curves at nodepoints is required in modeling tangent-plane and curvature continuous n-sided surfaces and surfaces over arbitrary curve meshes. This paper provides methods for optimal modification of curves at a common nodepoint, to make them tangent-plane and curvature continuous at the nodepoint. These methods can also be used to optimally estimate the intrinsic measures such as the Gaussian and mean curvatures of surfaces with discrete line and curve mesh representations such as triangular meshes.

The static configuration of a catenary riser can be obtained, with a good approximation, by a perfectly flexible cable model. However, such a model cannot deal with all the boundary conditions, as for an ideal cable there is no continuity of curvature at the touchdown point, at the top and at the points where there is change in the submerged weight. At the touchdown region, for instance, the cable model overestimates the maximum curvature.
