Abstract:
By the use of object-oriented analysis and design combined with variability modeling a highly flexible software model for the metrics handling functionality of a PDE solver framework was obtained. This new model was evaluated in terms of usability, particularly with respect to efficiency and flexibility. The efficiency of a pilot implementation is similar to, or even higher than that of a pre-existing application-specific reference code. With regards to flexibility it is shown that the new software model performs well for a set of four change scenarios selected by an expert user group.

For simple fluids, or Newtonian fluids, the study of the Navier-Stokes equations in the high Reynolds number limit brings about two fundamental research subjects, the Euler equations and the Prandtl's system. The consideration of infinite Reynolds number reduces the Navier-Stokes equations to the Euler equations, both of which are dealing with the entire flow region. This work introduces a new method of hydraulic design of a centrifugal pump impeller. This method is based on a geometrical approach employing curvilinear coordinates that are used to formulate both the axisymmetrical flow model in a meridional shape and the final model of flow in a blade cascade taking into account the full 3D shape of the impeller blade. A new angles-only initial relative orbit determination (IROD) algorithm is derived using three line-of-sight observations. This algorithm accomplishes this by taking a Singular Value Decomposition of a 6x6 matrix to arrive at an approximate initial relative orbit determination solution.
