Abstract:
Cyanate ester thermosetting resins are a novel family of materials for high technology and aerospace applications. The high glass transition temperatures available from cured cyanate ester networks and subsequently, their resistances to corrosive materials make these resins attractive for harsh environmental applications. These features of cyanate ester resins presented a threefold opportunity for investigation, namely: 1) establish a characterization technique for the long term mechanical properties of the cured resins, 2) develop a method for determining the effect of physical and chemical

87
Abstract Epoxy/PPO blends were cured with multifunctional cyanate ester resin . The effects of PPO content on cure behavior and thermal stability in the cyanate ester cured epoxy were investigated with FTIR,NMR and TMA . Cure reaction in the epoxy/PPO blends is faster than that of the neat epoxy system . FTIR and NMR analysis reveal that the functional group reactions are accelerated by adding PPO and indicate that several coreactions occured , such as cyanate-hydroxyl addition , epoxy-cyanate addition and epoxy-amine addition . Abstract:
Several problems must be solved in the construction, design, and operation of a nuclear fusion reactor. One of the chief problems in the manufacture of high-powered copper/polymer composite magnets is the difficulty to precisely control the fiber volume fraction. In this thesis, the effect of variations in fiber volume fraction on thermal stresses in copper/cyanate ester composite cylinders is investigated. The cylinder is a composite that uses copper wires that run longitudinally in a cyanate ester resin specifically developed by Composite Technology Development, Inc. This composite cylinde
