Lane, Rachel. "Radon-Associated Lung Cancer Mortality Risk at Low Exposures: Czech, French and Beaverlodge Uranium Miners." Thesis, Université d'Ottawa / University of Ottawa, 2017. http://hdl.handle.net/10393/36056.

Full text
Abstract:
Radon is a human carcinogen and is an important occupational and public health concern. Radiation protection programs, implemented since the 1950s and 1960s, have significantly reduced radon levels in uranium mines and improved the quality of exposure information. Precise quantification of the risk of lung cancer at low levels of radon exposure and the factors that confound and modify this risk are important for occupational radiation protection. This is a joint cohort study of 408 lung cancer deaths and 394,236 person-years of risk from the Czech, French and Canadian male uranium miners, employed in 1953 or later, with cumulative radon exposures < 100 working level months (WLM). Internal Poisson regression models, stratified by cohort, age at risk and calendar year period at risk were used to calculate the linear excess relative risk (ERR) per unit cumulative radon exposure (lagged five-years). The impact of effect modifiers: time since exposure, attained age, and exposure rate were assessed using an exposure-age-concentration model. Finally, sensitivity analyses assessed the confounding effect of unmeasured tobacco smoking on the radon-lung cancer mortality risk estimate. A statistically significant linear relationship between radon and lung cancer mortality was found, with ERR/WLM = 0.017 (95% confidence intervals (CI): 0.009–0.028) at < 100 WLM cumulative radon exposures. In trend analyses, statistically significant risk was observed at cumulative exposures as low as 10–19 WLM, with RR = 1.64 (95% CI: 1.03–2.65, N = 48 deaths). Radon exposures received in more recent periods (5–14 years previously) had the greatest risk of lung cancer mortality. These risks decreased with increasing time since exposure and attained age. No effect of exposure rate, separate from measures of cumulative exposure, was observed at low radon levels. The confounding effect of unmeasured tobacco smoking was small and did not substantially change the radon-lung cancer mortality risk estimates found. These findings provide strong evidence for an increased risk of lung cancer mortality after long-term low radon exposure among Czech, French and Canadian uranium miners. The results are compatible with other studies of miners restricted to low radon levels and residential radon studies. The results suggest radiation protection measures are of significant importance among modern uranium miners with low radon exposure levels.

Abstract:
This work focuses mainly to the cultural differences between the Czechs and the French in the school and working environment. The goal is to identify the French cultural standards from the perspective of Czech university students in France and the Czechs, who work in France or are working in contact with French, for example, in the Czech Republic. The author uses the method of critical incidents by conducting interviews. The author tests four hypotheses: verifies if there are cultural differences between the Czechs and the French and if these differences manifest during the contact in the workplace and at school and whether the Czech and French have different perception of authority in the workplace and at school. In the end, the work proposes recommendations for Czechs to facilitate cooperation with the French at school and at work.

McCauley, Christopher Michael. "Language, Memory, and Exile in the Writing of Milan Kundera." PDXScholar, 2016. http://pdxscholar.library.pdx.edu/open_access_etds/3047.

Abstract:
During the twentieth century, the former Czechoslovakia was at the forefront of Communist takeover and control. Soviet influence regulated all aspects of life in the country. As a result, many well-known political figures, writers, and artists were forced to flee the country in order to evade imprisonment or death. One of the more notable examples is the writer Milan Kundera, who fled to France in 1975. Once in France, the notion of exile became a prominent theme in his writing as he sought to expose the political situation of his country to the western world--one of the main reasons why he chose to publish his work in French rather than in Czech. This thesis analyzes the themes of language and memory in connection with exile in two of Kundera's novels, Le livre du rire et de l'oubli (1978) and L'Ignorance (2000). We contend that these concepts serve as anchors and tethers, stabilizing forces meant to help exiled characters recreate their identity outside of their homeland. By exploring notions of language and memory in these novels, Kundera demonstrates how the experience of exile affects the human condition during the latter half of the twentieth century.

Flock, Sarah Sylvie. "Rayonnement de la poétique d'Otomar Krejca en Belgique francophone." Doctoral thesis, Universite Libre de Bruxelles, 2011. http://hdl.handle.net/2013/ULB-DIPOT:oai:dipot.ulb.ac.be:2013/209963.

Full text
Abstract:

/ The thesis focuses on Czech theatre from first avant-garde to second avant-garde; mainly it is focusing on Otomar Krejča’s theatre and its relationship with Belgian theatre within the second Czech avant-garde theatre to the end of the Normalization.

Krejča worked an intensive part of his artistic life in Belgium. His Belgian theatrical activity can be divided into two distinct periods. The first one was coinciding with the foundation of his “Theatre Beyond the Gate” (Divadlo za branou) in Prague in 1965 and took place in the Belgian National Theatre in Brussels. Those years were squaring with Czechoslovakian destalinization and were particularly productive in the artistic field. In Brussels Krejča directed four plays: in 1965, Hamlet, in 1966, The Seagull, in 1970, Three Sisters, in 1978, Romeo and Juliet. The first three plays occurred before the Normalization and his departure in specific exile. The last one marked the beginning of his second period in Belgium, closely bound to Louvain-la-Neuve city. The two following Krejča’s productions were first created for the Festival d’Avignon: in 1978, Waiting for Godot and Lorenzaccio in 1979, before being performed at Atelier théâtral Jean Vilar in Louvain-La-Neuve. The three following plays were the last of Krejča’s Belgian works: Three Sisters in 1980, A. Schnitzler’s The Green Cockatoo in 1981 and Dostoevsky’s The Possessed adapted by Krejča himself in 1982.

In Belgium, the reception of his plays was mitigated. Duality between critics can be explained by Krejča’s new regard on plays, by Krejča’s use of dramaturgy. Krejča’s productions in Belgium were innovating because through dramaturgy they paved the way for something new :it was the end of a romantic Hamlet in the Shakespearian tradition and the end of Pitoëff’s aesthetic in Chechov’s productions.

Krejča’s work of art, impregnated by Czech tradition theatre of avant-garde, influenced his Belgian collaborators. Krejča was influenced by leaders in Czech first avant-garde theatre such as Burian, Frejka, theatrical theory of Honzl and Hilar’s theatre conception. When Krejča started to work in Belgium, the country was undergoing a theatrical revolution. At the end of the 1960s, French-speaking Belgium lived at the rhythm of its first avant-garde in staging. According to me, this fact is the main explanation to Krejča’s significance in French-speaking Belgium. Thanks to Krejča’s Belgian productions, a part of the first Czech theatrical avant-garde and the second Czech theatrical avant-garde penetrated in Belgium.

All of Krejča’s concepts (human beings, ethic of responsibility, importance of dramaturgy, personal appropriation of Stanislavski’s approach) slowly instilled French-speaking Belgian theatrical life. Sure an evident mark of continuity of his aesthetic cannot be seen in the long time, nevertheless Krejča’s influence was considerable and briefly materialized in many fields. It is obviously still vivid in the way some actors play, feel and teach theatre.

Abstract:
This acoustic-perceptual study concerns the limits of perception and production of French oral vowels [i, e, ɛ, a, u, o, ɔ, y, ø, œ], in isolation and in different consonantal contexts, in ten pre-service Czech teachers of French as a Foreign Language (FFL). The results show that (1) Phonetic proficiency in vowels depends on their spellings and consonantal context. (2) Vowels [i, y, u] and [a] are generally mastered with authenticity. (3) The ability to hear contrasts between the vowels e/ɛ, ø/œ and o/ɔ and pronounce them is limited. These results are only partially consistent with the predictions established in the Speech Learning Model (SLM) by Flege (1995), based on the notion of phonetic similarity between the mother tongue (MT) and the foreign language (FL)

The Master's thesis deals with the translatological aspects of multilingual menus in the context of Czech culture. The theoretical framework of the thesis offers several approaches to the topic: cultural, sociological, marketing, terminological and linguistic. Empirical research focuses on the Czech - French language-pair. The study maps online accessibility of French language menus in Prague's restaurants, compares their accessibility to those in other languages and analyses the quality of French translations. The crux of the study is an analysis of various strategies for translating Czech gastronomic terms into French, including adaptation, exoticization/naturalisation, and explication, among others. The analysis is based on Skopos theory and the pragmatics surrounding the supposed receiver of the final text. The study also concentrates on culturally specific terms (Czech specialties, French specialties, third country specialties) and the effect of non-native translators on the quality of the menu.

Abstract:
(English) The presented diploma thesis deals with the French concession connectors bien que, quoique, encore que, malgré que and certes-mais. The aim of the thesis was to describe their behaviour in French and to compare them with Czech. As the main classification criteria, we choose the position of the concédé and the asserté, and the finiteness of the concédé. By reason of technical arrangement of the corpus, the type of concession is described only marginally. The connectors were described on random samples from the parallel corpus Europarl. This corpus contains transcripts of the European Parliament's debates and was chosen due to the high content of argumentative structures. In the defined samples, bien que and certes-mais are very close in their function (most often is the government of finite concédés in anteposition). Another class consists of encore que and malgré que (commonly govern finite concédés in postposition). Quoique is aside, because it prefers on our samples non-finite concédés in postposition. And thus, the conjunction connectors, which are often referred to as synonymous, exhibit different behavior in terms of the factors described. More generally, the anteposition of concédés emphasizes the validity of the concessive implication, while its postposition stresses the concessive...

The present thesis examines the stylization of spoken language in literature from the translation point of view, namely in translation from French into Czech. As a prerequisite for dealing with the use of spoken language in translation, the use of spoken language in contemporary Czech literature is examined. Ten works of contemporary Czech literature are analysed via corpus linguistics methods, using the corpora of written language of the Czech National Corpus, with the view of describing the principal phonological, morphological, lexical and syntactic procedures used in Czech literary texts to evoke spoken language. In the second part of the thesis, six works of French literature containing features of spoken language are analysed, together with their translations into Czech. The paper also summarises the main features of spoken Czech and spoken French.

Abstract:
The master's thesis focuses on a translatological analysis of the original text and two available translations of the Break of Noon, a play written by a significant French playwright and diplomat Paul Claudel. Miloš Marten was the first to translate the play into Czech in 1910. The second translation was done by Vladimír Mikeš and was published in 2012. Given the time span of more than a hundred years between the translations, it is not only interesting to compare them linguistically but also to make a comparison of their reception. Therefore, the thesis deals with the reception of the texts and its development over time. The thesis defines Paul Claudel's place in French culture in the past and today and how its play is perceived in the Czech context. The thesis studies the position of the first translation in the time of its publishing and right after it. The thesis seeks to determine the reasons for the second translation to be commissioned and assess the position of the new text in the target culture. To determine the position of the translations in the Czech context and their potential effect on the culture, the thesis uses the polysystem theory which seems to be the most convenient tool as it studies to what extent translation literature affects domestic literature.

Abstract:
The thesis' subject is the celebrated poet Jindřich Hořejší (1886-1941) in his lesser-known vocation as a theatre translator whose bulk of work consists of translation of contemporary French drama (eg. Giraudoux, Claudel, Cocteau, Salacrou, Neveux, Passeur, Achard or Pagnol). First, it follows traces of theatre in the poet's life, before discussing various aspects of his role as a translator in the reality of theatre at the time (fnancial conditions of theatre translation, the work of theatre agencies, communication with theatres etc.) and offering a list of his translations of French drama, compiled to be as complete as possible. The next chapter contains analyses of Hořejší's own articles detailing his views on the theoretical aspects of translation (which are also reprinted in the Appendix), putting them into the context of contemporary translation theory and practice. The fnal two chapters analyse selected translations. The frst deals with verse drama translations, Arnoux' Huon of Bordeaux and Racine's Phaedra; the latter with an extensive commentary on the history of Czech stage alexandrine. The next chapter follows Hořejší's work with colloquial language in Pagnol's Fanny and compares his approach to translation of Giraudoux' Intermezzo with that of Karel Kraus.

Tomáš Dufka: Antirevolutionary discourse of Czech written prints in the period of the French revolution Abstract The thesis Antirevolutionary discourse of Czech written prints in the period of the French revolution deals with texts, which at the end of the 18th century had an objective to form an opinion of the Czech speaking population about events in France and assesses the way it has been being done. In the first part the author summarizes results of existing research of the French Revolution and its reception and defines theoretical and methodological approach of the thesis; in the second part he first presents the corpus of prints and of their creators with an aim to later describe the discourse of antirevolutionary texts in general by means of the methodology of critical discourse analyst, Norman Fairclough; in the third concluding part he focuses on specific revolutionary events: he observes what kind of techniques Kramerius' journal used when reporting revolutionary events and on examples of executions of Lewis XVI and Marie Antoinette he compares the discourse of Czech prints with the discourse of similar French prints. This work aims to find out strategies of antirevolutionary texts and to point out which images of Revolution were diffused among the Czech population. The thesis thus tries to...

Lively debates about it are calming down and it is high time to think about its future. We are going to present the reform in the whole in this work with the emphasis to the school environment which has a decisive influence to its expansion. The aim of the work is to gather enough data to formulate recommendations to Czech teachers about how to treat the reform and how much of it include in the lessons, if anything. The reform is gradually spreading especially thanks to the effort of its supporters. In French schools, it has been finally officialised but there are no rules in the Czech Republic. By means of a research among Czech teachers, we have realized that they are quite informed about the new orthography and their approach is rather positive. Some of them have been already teaching the new forms and others can join them after considering all pros and cons.

Abstract:
(in English): The present thesis titled Translation of francophone comics deals with the subject matter of comics translation, while applying both a theoretical and an empirical approach. Particular attention is paid especially to translations from French into Czech. Regarded the fact that Czech science has only scarcely studied the subject so far, the present thesis is conceived as a global introduction to the subject matter with particular focus on some of its partial aspects. The introduction to the theoretical part of the present study defines the main characteristic features of comics as a medium, as these features are closely linked to the particular challenges raised by its translations. The key chapters of the theoretical part go further to the core of the principal subject and focus on setting a general theoretical framework for translation analysis of specific problems linked with comics translations. The most common challenges faced by a comics translator are identified based on the defined characteristics of the Ninth Art and systemized in three main groups defined as technical, cultural and linguistic aspects of translation. While translating comics from French into Czech, the translator's work is also influenced by the radical differences in approaches to the Ninth Art in the Czech...

Crous, Elsa. "L’enjeu du jeu dans Risibles amours de Milan Kundera." Thesis, 2013. http://hdl.handle.net/10210/8301.

Full text
Abstract:
M.A. (French)
Milan Kundera is known for being almost obsessive in guarding his privacy, and in the manner in which he controls any translations of his writings. Despite such strictures, the works of this former exile from Czechoslovakia, who now resides in France and writes in French, have been translated and disseminated to a worldwide audience of readers. It is not only his fictional writings which have earned him kudos, but also his ventures into non-fiction, viz. literary criticism. Having April 1st as a birth date was to have a dramatic impact on Kundera, who later declared that this significant date, which is frequently associated with humorous pranks, pushed him to assume the role of philosophical fool in his writings. It is the different manifestations of games which come under scrutiny in this study, as represented in the seven short stories which make up the anthology Laughable Loves (Risibles Amours). Following an investigation of the differences between ancient and modern perception of what qualifies as ‘play’ or ‘games’, the games theories of reputed authors such as Johan Huizinga, Roger Caillois and Stuart Brown are used to form the theoretical basis of this part of the study. The research is further augmented by Eric Berne’s theory on the psychology underlying the games people play, as it manifests in interpersonal relationships. However, no study of games would be complete without investigating the dark side of play, when the game is corrupted through the actions of the players, referees or spectators, or when what starts as a battle of wills spirals into what could best be described as war games. In the pages of this anthology the reader is introduced to various characters who dare to think they can manipulate other people or events, but end up being played by those very people, or by circumstances beyond their control.

As a baseline for our analysis of the translations, the theoretical part of the present paper outlines the current state of research in the topic, provides an introduction into the life and work of the writer. Further, we present an account of detective novels in general and their historical development in France, which will enable us to identify how the Maigret novels fit within the genre and where they differ from its general features. Next, we will review how Simenon's work was received by readers in the French speaking countries and within the Czech environment; we will also present an overview of the publications of the Maigret novels. We will then provide a detailed analysis of the original French version of the novels focusing on introduction and classification of the selected characteristics. Based on the analysis, we discovered certain areas such as translation of local names or translation of expressions of level of certainty, which allow for comparison of the translations in question. Using this comparison, we aim to track any potential development in translation strategy. The...

The way literary text is used in didactics and approached in general has changed considerably in terms of individual methodical principles of foreign language teaching. Firstly, in the period of grammar- translation method, literary text was of the utmost importance, contrary to the beginning of the period of direct methods when it was completely abandonned. Nowadays, literary text is understood as one of the effective supplements in foreing language teaching. The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, considered to be a fundamental document for principles of foreign language teaching at present, identifies for each level of proficiency the ability of reading comprehension. This work introduces the resources of legal adjustments of the both law systems in the area of medical law. Later on it deals with the relation doctor - patient, the interpretation of which is absolutely different in both countries. France has been proud of its contractual relations since the thirties of the 20th century, while the Czech republic can be characterized with more of a paternalistic relation. The separate basic rights are arranged according to their importance in this thesis. The author introduces the international legal form, then the local variant, the French legal form being given the advantage. In the conclusion of some chapters the reader will find a short resume, evaluation of pluses and minuses and a short lay-out of the new legal modifications or inspiration for the lawmakers. First of all the right to life and the right to protection of human personality are being dealt with. These rights are the top values of the human society, that is why they are protected by the normatives of the top legal force. Whereas in Czech there are three verb moods, in French a fourth one is to be found, being defined as the "subjunctive mood". The subjunctive does not exist in Czech which often makes it hard to handle by students as well as teachers. The main aim of the thesis is to map the ways of presenting the French subjunctive verb mood in selected grammar handbooks intended for students and teachers of French and outline the different approaches to describing its parameters. Subsequently, the second objective here is to analyse the methods of presenting the subjunctive in selected textbooks and workbooks used when teaching French at Czech schools. The thesis is divided in three parts. In the initial one, the different approach to presenting the subjunctive in the referential grammar book of P. Charaudeaua - Grammaire du sens et de l'expression is analysed together with the ones applied in the FLE grammar books by G. D. de Salins - Grammaire pour l'enseignement/apprentissage de FLE, M. Abstract:
This work seeks to answer questions concerning the role France played in shaping the Czechoslovak elite in the first half of the 20th century. The study rests on three basic pillars. The first is a study of the framework in which Franco-Czechoslovak relations developed in the area of culture, cultural and educational policy. The second pillar is the question of France's direct involvement in Czechoslovakia - by means of solid structures created in connection with the establishment of the new state, and with the development of active French cultural policy after 1918. On the one hand, the French Institute in Prague, which, in the period under study, wanted to be more than a mere cultural centre, its ambitions primarily concerning scientific cooperation (language, philosophy, history, law, medicine, economics, chemistry, technical disciplines). On the other hand, the French Real Grammar School in Prague, the example of which gives a very good study of the competitive limits of cooperation between the two countries in the field of secondary education. Despite the growing number of students, this private institution (nationalised in 1937), never stopped addressing a key question: is it a Czechoslovak school teaching in French or a French educational institution operating in Czechoslovakia? Abstract:
This thesis is a French-Czech contrastive study which deals with schwa (mute E) in the two languages. It is conducted in a pedagogical perspective. After comparing the principal phonetic/phonological characteristics of the two languages, the topic of the theoretical part is schwa in spoken French. One of the chapters concerns the treatment of mute E in French songs and its treatment in poetry. The second part consists in an experimental study ; it contains the description and the results of three experiments concerning the two languages. The acoustic realization of schwa (or a "schwa-like" vocalic segment) is observed through production tasks and perception tests of syllabicity in French and Czech words. The acoustic analyses seem to support the well-known hypotheses that it is not just the effect of the phonological cribble, but also a mental representation of the graphical form that is operating in the process of the perception of a foreign language. Furthermore, the representation of the graphical form seems to play a role for French listeners when hearing their own language. The articulatory habits of native speakers can considerably influence not only the production of a foreign language being studied, but also its perception. In the case of our first two perception tests the French listeners were...

Auguste Perret made his mark in history as the first architect to make use of ferroconcrete as an expressive material. The Rue Franklin apartments, the Garage Ponthieu, and the Church in Le Raincy are all milestones in the development of world architecture. In the context of current discussions about gender and feminism this works tries to look deeper into the question of gender in translatology where gender in particular takes on the double role - on the one hand the role of grammatical gender in its linguistic form and on the other the role of social gender construction with regards to the person who translates. The aim of this work apart from the theoretical insight in the connected domains is mainly to assemble a concise overview of translations from French written by the Czech female translators in the second half of the 19th century. Additionally, the work also treats the question of Czech emancipation movement and contributes at least with basic biographical information to the knowledge of mentioned female translators. The acquired data for the overview of translations from French were assembled in the form of bibliographical index which reflects both translations published as books and in the periodical press for each of the female translators. The results of this work allow to consider one chapter of Czech history translation from the "female point of view" and at the same time might serve as a basis for further research in this field.

The thesis is divided into two parts, one theoretical and one empirical. The first one presents origin and different perception of the boulevard comedy genre in France, Czech Republic, Germany, United Kingdom and USA. Afterwards, a brief characteristic of the boulevard comedy is presented in terms of content and subject matter. Four kinds of comedy are presented - comedy of manners, comedy of situation, comedy of intrigue and interactive comedy. The translatological analysis of the Czech translation of the French humorist Laurent Baffie's contemporary play Toc toc by the director and translator Jaromír Janeček constitutes the second main part of the thesis. The analysis is based on the theoretical studies of Jiří Levý and Jan Mukařovský, which are dealing with the translation of drama, and also on the theory of so-called Manipulation school of André Lefevere. Several problems have arised from the detailed analysis of the original text. The comparison of the translation and the original text is made on the ground of these problems. Subsequently, there is an evaluation of the translation. In some cases, a different solution is proposed. The work is supplemented by insights into the translation practice, which are drawn from personal interviews with translators and experts on drama.

Abstract:
Lenka Mundevová Translation of Colloquial Language Devices in Fiction: A Century of Maupassant's Ivrogne in Czech Translation Abstract The dissertation compares the stylization of the dialogues in the French original of Maupassant's short story Ivrogne (The Drunkard), written in 1884, with five Czech translations published between 1902 and 1997. The comparative analysis is focused on the devices of colloquial language, including dialect, which appear frequently in the dialogues of the story and prove to be extraordinarily useful when interpreting Maupassant's text. The analysis of the excerpted material is preceded by the description of the basic characteristics of colloquial French and Czech, followed by the description of their stratifications. The mutual relation of the colloquial language varieties is an important prerequisite for the evaluation of the translations of colloquial language devices and their appropriateness in the individual Czech versions of Ivrogne. This commentary focuses on the analysis of the novel genre that balances science fiction and modern myth, as well as the Christiane Nord analysis of the original text through which it explores external factors such as author, reader, intention, text function or its motive and intra-text factors such as theme and content, composition, nonverbal components, lexicon, syntax, and suprasegmental phenomena. Subsequently, in the commentary, we deal with translation problems, their solutions and applied translation procedures such as transposition, modification, compensation, generalization or specification.

TITLE: Vowel Lenght: Comparison of Czech and French Vowel Systems from the Phonetic and Phonological Point of View. A Pedagogically Focused Contrastive Study. AUTHOR: Kateřina Vychopňová DEPARTMENT: Department of French Language and Literature SUPERVISOR: prof. PhDr. Marie DOHALSKÁ, DrSc./ prof. Philippe MARTIN The thesis, one of the French-Czech contrastive studies, deals with the issue of vowel length in Czech and French language. The first part of the thesis, which was intentionally written for a potential pedagogic use, introduces the comparison of the main phonetic and phonological characteristics of both languages, their typology considering vowels length and its development through the history of these languages. The second part, experimental, brings the description and results of several attempts which observe whether the French native speakers learning Czech respect the length of Czech vowels, further the influence of following consonants, final and initial stress and also the type of a syllable on the length of French vowels, both in the production of French native speakers and Czech native speakers learning French. The results prove that articulatory habits which both groups of speakers use in their mother tongue have a significant influence on the production of the acquired language. In...

Abstract:
This thesis addresses the issue of the subjective perception of the speaker's speed during simultaneous interpretation. The theoretical grounding of the thesis is based on Karla Déjean Le Féal's doctoral thesis (1978), which first introduced the notion of subjective speed, whereby two speeches of equal objective speed (as measured in syllables/min.) are perceived as having different speeds. The conclusions of Déjean Le Féal's thesis demonstrate that interpreters usually experience a faster subjective speed when interpreting speeches which were prewritten and then read aloud by the speaker. Impromptu speeches are usually perceived as being slower than read speeches. Aside from the above-mentioned theory of subjective speed, the theoretical section of this thesis analyzes various approaches to measuring speech speed, the relation between objective speed and simultaneous interpreting, the determinants of speech speed and prosodic features influencing the subjective perception of speed. The empirical section of this thesis consists of an experiment which aims to verify Déjean Le Féal's conclusions using French-Czech material. The methodology of the experiment partially replicates the method used by Aneta Mandysová in her master's thesis (2011), which is focused on German-Czech material. The method used...
