Abstract:
The aim of this paper is to explain the concept of global journalism and to describe its presence in the Czech Republic. The development of journalism in the last years, which is connected to globalisation and digitalisation of media, and various global journalism theo-ries are introduced first to give the theoretical background. Then Peter Berglez's theory of global journalism is accepted as the main one for this work and it is described into greater details, including strong and weak points, criticism, problems and challenges. That is the core of the theoretical part of this work. The history and media of the Czech Republic are shortly addressed before the actual research. That is done with the help of mixed methods – quantitative surveys and content analyses and qualitative interviews – to answer four research questions: the awareness about the existence of global journalism, opinions about it, the influence of education and the presence of global journalism in Czech media.

The aim of our study is to analyze different points of view while viewing the media. Thesis is directly linked to the knowledge of the subjects Media and Culture. The theoretical part deals with the literature development and media in the time identified by us. We are aslo noticing the journalist role in our society and their self-appraisal. In the analytical part we divide individual books into chapters. Our criteria for their creation is the role which the media have, and discribed methods - for example satire. Within detailed analyzing of the books, we came out from literary theory, especially we use knowledge of narratology. We also lean on information from the media development scene and research focusing on journalists and their position in society. Our thesis is the first work on this topic. We therefore give a basic overview of the captured media. As a second dominant theme during the work, we chose a subject of reporters description. Abstract:
The diploma thesis deals with the depiction of the media and journalism in Czech prose of the 1960s. From the point of view of the entire period of the communist regime's rule in Czechoslovakia, the 1960s are a time of easing political and social conditions, which was also reflected in the literature. The aim of this work is to show the image of the media and journalism in Czech prose in the period in the broader genesis of the portrayal of the media in Czech literature and also with regard to the historical social and cultural context of the 1960s. Moreover, the thesis illustrates through content and text analysis, how individual works of literature describes the medial landscape and the way media officers and their functions are portrayed. Furthermore, the thesis examines the perception of journalists by a society living under the communist regime and how the journalists perceived themselves.

Abstract:
The objective of this master's thesis is to examine the concept of opinion leadership-to define it, to describe where it originated from, how it has developed over time, and finally, to apply this phenomenon to the Czech journalist community and its current members. Based on relevant international literature, the author of this paper assumes that opinion leaders exist in every social group or community around the globe, possessing an extraordinary personal influence on the decision-making and opinion-forming process of the people within their social network. Simply put, opinion leaders are the individuals to whom others look for guidance, credible and accurate information and context when they are in doubt or experiencing indecisiveness. For journalists, the possibility to have someone to whom they can turn for all the above-mentioned is crucial, the author believes, for it is a daily part of the profession to handle information cautiously, to evaluate news critically and objectively, and to get acquainted with a confusing topic in a relatively short period of time. Firstly, the paper offers a thorough theoretical framework for understanding the concept of opinion leadership, which is followed by a practical part consisting of a two-phase research examining opinion leaders in the ranks of Czech...

Abstract:
The thesis evaluates the work and the meaning of the Czech-German Future Fund as one of the key players in the role of deepening and hardening the Czech-German relations. The institution is characterized by the concepts of the soft power and of the reconciliation. The sources of the soft power are directly connected with the concept of the reconciliation. Namely it works with the sources of the foreign policy, the culture and the political values. These are connected with the prolongation of the Fund, Czech-German Journalist Prices and the announcement of the Topic of the Year. The Czech-German Fund was established on the basis of the Czech-German Declaration and its time of existence was initially restricted to 10 years. However, since its establishment in the year 1997 its existence has been extended twice already. The main aim of the work is to characterize the Czech- German Future Fund as a unique organisation of its kind on the background of the evolution of the Czech-German relationship. Besides the main concept of the soft power the work uses the concept of the reconciliation. Especially the four phases of the institution evaluation after the model of Lily Gardner Feldman: circumscription, growth, consolidation, revaluation. In the work, the both concepts are connected and examined closely...

Abstract:
This dissertation examines elite and popular consciousness among Czech speakers in America during their mass migration from Bohemia and Moravia, the two Habsburg crownlands that became the largest part of the Czechoslovak Republic in 1918. Between 1860 and 1910, their numbers increased tenfold to almost a quarter-million, as recorded in the United States census, and to over a half-million with their children. That was almost one-twelfth of their population in Bohemia and Moravia. In the same half-century, a stable group of men made Czech-language journalism and publishing in America. They included Karel Jon? in Wisconsin, Vclav ?najdr in Cleveland, Franti?ek Boleslav Zdr?bek and August Geringer in Chicago, and Jan Rosick in Omaha. Students of the first Czech-language secondary schools in Bohemia, they came to the 1860s American Midwest in their twenties and modernized a print culture launched by bricklayers and tailors. They also became leading voices in what the subtitle calls contention and brotherhood among their countrymen. Contention formed the three large camps, subcultures and allegiances?liberal/Freethinker, Catholic and Socialist. Brotherhood denotes the forms of association and security that made the fraternal benefit societies the largest and most durable platforms for Bohemian identity and advocacy in America. The dissertation uses Czech-American newspapers from the period, historiography and new archival sources from both sides of the Atlantic to more closely examine definitive episodes, personalities and institutions among Bohemians while they formed important urban and rural communities in American society from New York to the Great Plains.

Abstract:
The thesis examines whether the media content that won the Award for Solutions Journalism meets the basic criteria of this particular journalistic approach. The qualitative content analysis is complemented by a multi-case study, which was prepared on the basis of interviews with the winners of the Journalism Award for Solutions Journalism and popularizers of this journalistic method in the Czech Republic. A multi-case study examined whether journalists deliberately developed award-winning media content using this method. The work also provides information on the conditions under which the approach has established itself in the Czech Republic while it outlines its future. The theoretical part contains the definition of Solutions Journalism, describes its classification among other journalistic approaches and its development. It briefly introduces non-profit organizations that seek to create awareness of Solutions Journalism in the Czech Republic. The main goal of the research is to confirm that in the Czech Republic the media content has been created within the framework of this journalistic approach, but it was not named as Solutions Journalism. The awarding of the Journalist Award for Solutions Journalism serves primarily as a way to raise awareness of this method.

Abstract:
The dissertation analyzes the iReporter project, which allows viewers to become involved in Czech Television broadcasting. The dissertation is divided into theoretical and practical parts. The theoretical part deals with participatory (citizen) journalism, both abroad and in the Czech Republic. I attempt to outline the history and present of public involvement in the production of news, with a focus on TV- related participatory journalism and Czech Television in particular. The dissertation describes the way in which viewers became increasingly involved in TV broadcasting over time, be it in movies, TV series, entertainment programs or news reporting. I also explain how television began to utilize new media, mobile journalism and social networks, all of which brought it much closer to its viewers. The theoretical study is followed by a practical part focused on the iReporter project. For example, it provides information about the people in charge of the project, the number of participating contributors, the process a video takes to get on the screen, the regions with the most active iReporters and the programs/shows which use their videos the most. This is followed by a mapping of the iReporters' weekly activities to show, for example, the proportion of the most active contributors, the most popular topics...

Abstract:
In this paper, I deal with the issue of press conferences after matches of 1st soccer league. My goal is in the first place to describe press conferences as a part of public relations and as one of main and most important categories of respondents interacting with journalists. In the first part of my master thesis I examine sports journalism and its specifics and differences against other fields of this profession. For research itself I used techniques of observation and questioning, but mainly I worked with the data gained during interviews and information obtained by myself, as an involved observer. During my observation I have visited 14 press conferences throughout one season of 1st soccer league in total that took place all around Czech Republic. The goals of researching these events were its course, specifically how long the events were and in which environment, but also what are the rules for its organisation and how those rules are complied. Another subject of my research was a position of a spokespersons and work of journalists, whose job is to question. Abstract:
The main aim of my diploma thesis is to determine the position of newspaper called Pražský denník in context to other Czech newspapers of the second half of the sixties of the 19th century. That time was the period which represented the essential changes in development of the modern society and politics in Czech lands. Simultaneously, it is the period when the political journalism started to form. The activity of Pražský denník has not been studied in any research yet. This periodical is considered to be biased and insolvent because it is usually included into official pro- government newspapers. Such evaluation of this newspaper is done without any deeper content analysis. The interpretation of the Czech journalism, which is mainly focused on the effect of opposite newspaper (e.g. Národní listy) and had the main effect on the Czech national movement, does not pay attention to Pražský denník at all. Considering the fact that Pražský denník was published in cargo of 20 000 pieces we should not omit evaluating of this newspaper according to its effect on reader of that time. In my diploma thesis, I would like to focus on the content analysis of Pražský denník and to analyze the thematic composition and territorial focus of individual articles. My interest is also concentrated on the measure and...

Abstract:
The master thesis František Šimáček (1834-1885), the Journalist and Publisher tries to introduce an important person of the Czech nationalistic movement of the 1850's-1880's from different aspects, i. e. concerning his activity in the fields of journalism, publishing, national movement, national economy and his family life. General research method used in the thesis is biographically focused analysis of the primary sources, mainly private correspondence and other documents from collections of the Literary Archive of the Museum of Czech Literature, the National Museum Library and the Náprstek Museum of Asian, African and American Cultures. Based on the method, the chronological construction of history of Šimáček's life, his public and professional activities was outlined. Sufficient literature concerning the topic which would analyse in detail scope of activities of František Šimáček in the context of the Czech intellectual milieu in the 19th century is unfortunately lacking in the meantime. Fragmentarily preserved archival documents do not allow us to follow Šimáček's public contacts with all important actors of the Czech cultural and political life in the 19th century. Therefore, a deeper relationship with Božena Němcová was chosen as an example of Šimáček's steadier and lasting friendships with...

I am interested in the values present in this discourse and what position will these values take towards squatters. In the theoretical part I explain concepts like hegemony, binary us-them, moral panics and body discipline, which will help me in my analysis. Recognized values are put into categories and subcategories according to their content. I describe the development of values within categories in different years. Abstract:
The master thesis examines the war reporting of two Czech dailies (Mladá fronta DNES and Právo), specifically their coverage of the Czech Army mission and deployment in Afghanistan. In the theoretical part the quality of reporting, topic and factors that influence the journalist work are considered. A major theme is the relationship of media and political elites and some of its manifestations - the CNN effect connected with the media and public push on the departure of US military from Vietnam, and peace- journalism a concept of reporting on wars by exploiting more themes like reconstruction and peaceful solutions rather than war and combat. The quantitative analysis aims to verify these phenomenon in the Czech media. This is done mainly by analysing the reports sources and looking for the presence of three frames derived from the theoretical literature on this topic: heroic framing applied on Czech soldiers, national framing reflecting the national interests, and humanitarian and development aid framing.

Abstract:
The aim of this thesis is to contribute to theoretically sound concept of Peace Journalism, which combines theoretical foundations from two spheres: conflict and peace studies and media studies. Influence of journalists as intervening force and explaining factor with regard to (violent) conflict is neglected. However, Peace Journalism is not theoretically strong and builds upon dualistic definition vis-á-vis so-called War Journalism. The concept of Peace Journalism has to overcome this delamination in order to reflect theoretical underpinnings of conflict transformation theory and conflict analysis. Moreover, Peace Journalism has to differentiate media according to an involvement of given societies in a conflict. This offers an opportunity to specifically and accurately analyse news coverage of conflicts. Case studies analysing Czech coverage of Cyprus and Nagorno-Karabakh conflicts illustrates this approach. The coverage is essentially flat, distorts a reality of the conflict, pays attention to visual and physical aspects of the conflict and closes the conflicts in arbitrary time boundaries.

Abstract:
The thesis Národní listy 1910 - 1914 is focused on the period of ownership change of Národní listy, which was bought by Pražská akciová tiskárna (Prague share printing house) in 1910 from the family of the deceased founder Dr. Julius Grégr. The daily journal, which has retained a degree of independence, has become the official press authority of the political party Národní strana by this sale, mainly represented by Karel Kramář and Alois Rašín. In individual chapters, I am gradually analyzing the underlying materials from which I drew for my work by putting Národní listy in the context of the time and circumstances that led to the creation of the daily journal. Abstract:
The diploma thesis Comparation of the coverage of war conflicts in Yemen and Syria by the Czech media examines to what extent and in what way two wars, which have been going on for several years and are among the biggest humanitarian crises of the present, are reflected in selected media. The conflicts under investigation are the war in Syria and the war in Yemen. The aim of the thesis was to prove that although the two wars are comparable in many aspects, there is a considerable difference between their media coverage. The theoretical part summarizes and defines important concepts accompanying news and news selection and their impact, the role of the media in war and other concepts such as ideology or propaganda. Furthermore, it was found that while the war in Syria is most often put into the context of the actions of state actors, the most common theme of the reports on the war in Yemen is the development of the conflict. Abstract:
The thesis "Media image of nine ice hockey world championships in the Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic in the contemporary press" focuses on reporting on nine ice hockey world championships hosted by the Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic in media. This is done by qualitative analysis of articles in the contemporary press in both specialized sports daily or weekly papers and general papers. Apart from analyzing the degree and target of critique and style of reporting, it also focuses on the influence of current political climate and propaganda in the period between world wars, after the World War II, 1968 Russian occupation and shortly after the Velvet revolution. The reporting period was set at one month before the start of each tournament and two weeks after it's end. In case of 1933 and 1938 championships, the thesis analyzes the following papers: Rudé právo, České slovo, Národní politika. In later years: Československý sport, Mladá fronta, Rudé právo, Svobodné slovo (all daily), Stadión and Gól (both weekly). After the Velvet revolution: Sport, Právo, MF Dnes (all daily). Abstract:
This diploma thesis focuses on two periodicals that were published simultaneously during 1939-1940, i.e. in the initial period of the so-called Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. Both periodicals presented themselves as press platforms of the sympathizers of fascist groups. One of the periodicals related to the pre-war fascist group Červenobílí and the other referred to a fascist movement called Vlajka. Despite seemingly similar orientations, the magazines got themselves into a dispute that resulted in an extensive press campaign. The aim of my thesis is the detailed analysis of this campaign. Most of the people concentrated around Nástup Červenobílých magazine were active in the committee of Národní souručenství (the only legal Czech political organization of that time), or in its satellite institutions. Nástup Červenobílých thus acted loyally towards Národní souručenství and was financed by its leading officials. Vlajka magazine, on the contrary, was against Národní souručenství from the beginning, which was reflected in the attacks on Nástup Červenobílých. The press campaign was led on the level of personal insults and the main protagonists were Zdeněk Zástěra, publisher of Nástup Červenobílých, and Jan Rys with Josef Burda on the other side, both Vlajka officials. The aim of this work is to map, capture and enlighten the contemporary phenomenon of travel and travelogue, and introduce it as a still alive and evolving literary genre. This is illustrated by the analysis of contemporary Czech periodicals, blogs, websites and several literary works of this nature. The work, based on this analysis, creates their genre typology. The results show that there is a retreat of lyrical and poetic type, while the current is a form of narrative and novelistic travelogue, in which a subjective description and personal tone predominates and the position of the author - narrator is strengthened. Contemporary literary production of travelogue genre is very broad and findings of this work describe the current status and trends, which tend to mix and combine genres, incorporating travelogue into fiction and enriching it with new elements through differentiation of ideas and interests of travelers. Abstract:
This submitted paper aims to give a communicative image of the conflicts of the Czech Estates Uprising in the south of Bohemia. The focal point of the research has been three clashes of Protestant and Catholic armies. The first was the Battle of Lomnice, which took place on November 11, 1618, between the allied estates troops of Jindřich Matyáš Thurn and Jiří Fridrich Hohenlohe and the catholic military assembly of Karel Bonaventura Buquoy. After the battle that was victorious for the generals of the estates, the military actions moved to the area around České Budějovice, which was besieged by the army of the estates, as the catholic troops withdrew here. Ending the siege of the South Bohemian metropolis caused the third conflict, which has become part of this work. The battle at Záblatí took place on June 10, 1619, by the troops of Petr Arnošt of Mansfeld, the general of the rebellious Czech estates, and the military corps of imperial mercenaries commanded by Karel Bonaventura Buquoy. The aim of the author was to capture the fullest range of information framework, which was completed by reports of these military clashes of the Czech Estates Uprising. As part of research activities, attention was paid first to the works which explored the battle of Záblatí from political and military point of view. This view became a basic framework in which the research was conducted. However, the work should not only to recapitulate the conclusions already drawn, but the aim was to look at the examined issue with a new look. Such a view was based in the research of either new or to-nowoverlooked sources, such as the period news that historical science began to discover in recent years. A relatively large part of the historical community took the argument in saying that under the tide of propaganda and perspice it is not possible to find the truth about individual events of the Czech Estates Uprising. It would certainly be possible to claim that credible authentic information was scarce in the leaflets of the Czech Estates Uprising. These who contracted the prints, however, attempted to influence the readers of contemporary journalism and help them orientate in their intellectual worlds that were in this way uncovering to us. Another possibility for viewing the conflicts of the Czech Estates Uprising was offered through the view of the ordinary villages and towns inhabitants that were coming into contacts or were just observers of the South Bohemian battlefield. Although the preservation of the sources of the early 17th century from the environment of towns and villages was far from abundant, we managed to find some authentic testimonies that evaluated the battles of the Czech Estates Uprising from the very distinctive angles of view. The author interpreted sources of song lyrics reporting to the rural environment and sources of interurban correspondence, through which he tried to uncover at least part of the mental world of ordinary residents of South Bohemia affected by war in the first third of the 17th century and their view on the South Bohemian battlegrounds. Similarly, he also proceeded in the interpretation of the noble correspondence, whether it were warriors or the aristocrats affected by war misfortunes.
