Abstract:
Abstract Even though video games are highly popular, localization into Slovak is rather rare and the language struggles to maintain a presence in the video game industry. This is partly because Slovak is a less widely spoken language, and also because it is mutually intelligible with the more dominant Czech language, having a common history. Our paper examines the Slovak-Czech parallels in the respective language-, audiovisual- and multimedia- related legislation as well as market practices. A similar comparative analysis is conducted with other less widely spoken European languages, namely Serbian, Croatian and Slovenian. Our results show that among the examined languages, Czech is by far in the strongest position as a supported language in video games on various platforms whereas Slovak, Serbian, Croatian and Slovenian are hardly present. We hope that the results of our research will stimulate the discussion on this issue.

Abstract:
The continuing interest in the artistic word reveals all the new aspects of the study of the writers’ language, the methods of usage of the linguistic units in their works. This article brings together in one focus several problems: the study of the language creativity of N.S. Leskov, manifested in the creation of unforgettable speech portraits of characters, who, in search of expressiveness, realize their creative abilities, using already known words and expressions or creating the new ones. Occasional expressions, used to achieve maximum expressiveness and intensity of the transmitted value, can be read in the same text in different ways. The multiple transformation of stable expressions is especially typical for the writer, therefore it is difficult not only to interpret the author’s phraseology in Leskov’s works, but also to translate. The Czech translators using the principle of functional similarity try to keep ways of usage of the units created by the author and to inform the reader of expressivity, emotional sounding and esthetic functions of the original.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the analysis of word-formation neologisms in modern media speech from the point of view of their sociocultural characteristics during the COVID-19 pandemic (on Russian and Czech internet speech). In derivational processes, socially significant, socalled key words play an important role, forming a special socio-cultural space, thereby becoming a kind of dominants in modern speech. Such lexemes give a life to a big quantity of derived units. So, neologisms with initial words reflecting the situation of a pandemic in 2020 in modern Russian and Czech society, clearly enough evidence of public attitudes - a negative assessment and rejection of what is happening and at the same time irony and a language game.

Abstract:
Abstract The article deals with folk superstitions (predictions, beliefs) common in Russian society, and the corresponding stereotypical expressions, such as: Кончик носа чешется - в рюмку смотреть; Не ешь с ножа - сердитым будешь; Через порог не здороваются; (when starting a journey) Присядем на дорожку, etc. The authors show that these expressions are used with a special phatic function: their purpose is to neutralize, to smooth the effects of an uncomfortable situation (something was broken, someone took somebody for someone else, someone hiccupped, any other unpleasant happening, etc.). Therefore, these folk expressions serve as sociolinguistic factors, optimizing the course of a dialogue. The author also gives examples of the “new” superstitions that imitate already known models and that were created with a special game purpose (like Ходить на работу - к деньгам). Examples from Russian fiction and Internet sources are provided. The facts of Russian discourse are compared with the examples from the Czech language and the national specificity of the superstitions is discussed in the article.

Abstract:
The article deals with the fundamental development directions of futurism studying in Russian poetry in the D. Chizhevsky’s scientific heritage. The author determined the methodological significance of the futurism analysis initiated by the Ukrainian scientist just as organic and valuable artistic phenomenon in the history of Russian literature. His research «On the poetry of Russian futurism» (New York, 1963) was published on the contrary to the total silencing of the avant-garde in the USSR and its almost complete erasure from the historical map of the development of literature. The scientist connects there a number of distinguishing tenden- cies of the futuristic poetics with the preceding stage (the literature of symbolism), and predicts the appearance of studies of this aspect of literary continuity. Author of this article analyses works of similar subjects that have replenished science at the late twentieth – early twenty- first centuries (Bobrinskaya, Kling). D. Chizhevsky pays the most attention to the peculiarities and innovations of the poetic language of the futurists, defines various ways of word creation in their poetic practice – morphological word forms, innovations, morphemic and phonetic «zaum», violations of grammatical norms. As a specialist in comparative literary studies, he drew attention to the connection between the Russian avant-garde and both the Polish (the Scamander group) and the Czech avant-garde in the works of individual authors (V.Nesval). While studying Russian futurism and in a number of works on baroque literature, D. Chizhevsky traces the diachronic connection of Russian futurism with the baroque tradition, reveals the typological affinity of many events in time distant literatures. The baroque dimension of futuristic poetics clearly observed in the conceptual position of Chizhevsky when it comes about «complexity», the opacity of the poetic language of such artists as Mayakovsky, Pasternak, about lan- guage game, the experiment of an abstruse language, intentional stylistic opacity, and the «incomprehensibility» of futurist texts. The profound idea of outlining diachronic typological processes in various literatures turned out to be quite productive and had further literary development, just as a scheme of the «wave» movement of styles proposed by Chizhevsky in the es- say «Cultural and historical eras». In support of this thesis, in this article it was analyzed a number of philological works of the late twentieth – early twenty-first century, where the analogies between the baroque and avant-garde artistic paradigms were traced. To a large extent, the works of the Ukrainian philologist and culturologist have contributed to the formation of broad historical and literary views on typological processes in various literatures, on the study of the genesis of individual literary phenomena and historical typology in the diachronic aspect.

We present experimental results of an automatic extraction of a Czech-English translation dictionary. Two different bilingual corpora (119,886 sentence pairs computer-oriented and 58,137 journalistic corpora) were created. We used the length-based statistical method for sentence alignment (Gale and Church 1991) and noun phrase marker working with regular grammar and probabilistic model (Brown et al. 1993) for dictionary extraction. Resulting dictionaries’ size varies around 6,000 entries. After significance filtering, weighted precision is 86.4% for computer-oriented and 70.7% for journalistic Czech-English dictionary.

Abstract:
The article describes the experience of conducting speech therapy with a bilingual (sequential bilingualism) boy of Vietnamese origin in preschool age. The authors identify main differences between Czech and Vietnamese, and also point to specific linguistic interference occurring in the case of a Vietnamese-speaking person learning Czech. The aim of the authors is to describe the development of the boy’s language skills and the possibilities for his language development in kindergarten and during preparatory classes for school education. Speech therapy aimed at supporting the development of communication skills lasted seven months and involved the inclusion of multi-sensory games and activities to support various language levels. Particular emphasis was placed on auditory differentiation (including vowel quantity), auditory memory and phonological awareness (including the division of words into syllables and the analysis and synthesis of sounds).

Abstract:
Role-playing games, the use of pseudonyms and literary fiction
 The paper contains the onomastic analysis of the comedy crime novel Zločin Hercula Poirona (The Crime of Hercule Poiron) by Eva Bešťáková, which was published in 2016. The focus is on the connection between role-playing games and the motivations behind the use of pseudonyms. The story of the Czech writer foregrounds a main character who one day decides to play the role of Hercule Poirot. His name (Hercule Poiron) and his features are similar to those of the world-famous Belgian detective. He manages to persuade many people that he is the real Poirot, however, he is well behind in character and skills. As a result, his game eventually fails. The story of Poirot has a metaphorical meaning. The conclusion of the study is that the behaviour of the characters in literary apocrypha is characteristically theatrical: similarly to actors, the characters use pseudo-nyms temporarily, while they step into the shoes of another person. This means that detective figures in Poirot stories not written by Agatha Christie must be considered figures who play the role of the real Poirot.

Abstract:
Positive psychology has recently seen unprecedented rise and has reached vast achievements in the area of quality of life (QoL) improvement. The purpose of this study is to show that there are different aspects of well-being that make healthy older people motivated to learn a foreign language at a later age. The research was conducted in the Czech Republic and Poland in two groups of learners aged 55 years and more. The experimental group consisted of 105 Czech respondents who were targeted with an online questionnaire with the aim to determine the level of FLL outcomes connected to QoL in healthy older adults in their L2 acquisition. The second experimental group (n = 100) was established of Polish seniors who attended similar language courses. The findings of the research clearly show that FLL has an irreplaceable role as one of several non-pharmacological strategies utilized to improve the aging process and reduce drawbacks of aging. The results indicate that seniors' overall satisfaction and subjective feelings of well-being are enormously high when attending foreign language classes at older age. FLL, therefore, creates an environment that can enhance QoL of older adults that can be supplemented by other means such as well-balanced diet, other social activities, sport and physical activity, music, or computer games. All these intervention methods can significantly improve QoL of older adults and the parties engaged and/or responsible for taking care of older generation should take it into serious consideration.

The main aim of this diploma thesis is to make a contribution to discussion about suitability of using board games in education and to confirm that making use of board games is a valid didactical method used for teaching Czech language. Theoretical part is focused on play and game, making use of games in education, board games, their characteristics, categories, types and utilization in education. Following chapters explore advantages and disadvantages of using board games for teaching Czech which encounter Primary school teachers and contributions of games to devepolment of key competences. Further in the work, an overview/summary of Czech language board games suitable for teaching Czech and available on the Czech market is stated. These games were evaluated according to beforehand set criteria. A collection of my own board games created for needs of Czech language Primary school teachers follows.

Abstract:
Czech language is an unattractive and boring subject for some pupils. In this work I deal with linguistic game, by which I would like to promote interest in the subject. In the theoretical part I determine the subject matter of the word classes, new algorithms and principles that should be followed in the curriculum. In addition, there is a definition of game and its place in the life of a child. Other concepts, such as "didactic play" and "language game", are explained as well. In the practical part I analyze the questionnaire, which is concerned with language games in the third and fourth year of primary school. I evaluate teachers' opinions on play, if they involve games during their lessons and whether pupils play these games with interest or not. This section also contains a reservoir of language games that are designed to practice and consolidate the particular curriculum. I tried to link theory with practice as much as possible. The main aim of my thesis is to use games to make teaching methods more interesting and fun for children.

The master's thesis deals with didactic games in teaching Czech for schoolchildren with a different mother tongue. The aim of the thesis is a set of didactic games which is divided to three parts: pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar. Firstly, the cognitive and language development of schoolchildren are characterised, primarily in relation to game. Afterwards, there are described game and its characteristics at schoolchildren. It is defined as a part of teaching methods and put into context of teaching foreign languages. The master's thesis theoretically deals with the situational sylabus which was created for the practical part. The games, which are introduced in the practical part of thesis, are adaptations of games intended for different school subjects. These games were pre-tested by group of schoolchildren, they were changed on the basis of teacher's feedback if needed and then made to methodical description.

My diploma thesis on the Using board games in the Czech language lesson in primary school is divided into two parts. The first part deals with theoretical starting points based on experiential and constructivist pedagogy. It focuses on the game from several points of view - as a free activity and joy during life and as a didactic method in which pupils' education is realized, a class climate is formed and a board game is applied. Further there are described places where you can play board games outside the school environment. The second part is devoted to the production of my own board games and their subsequent use in the teaching of the Czech language in the fourth year of primary school. In conclusion, I reflect on their suitability for teaching, highlight their advantages, possible pitfalls and suitable variations and forms of gradation. My diploma essay is devoted to games as away of education which can be used in Czech realia education of adult foreigners. A part target is to describe the situation among teachers of Czech as a foreign language. In the focus of interest, there are questions how to treat Czech realia education, which ways of education to use and how to feel the game as a way of studying while using in this type of education. The main target of my essay is to find out how successful the suggested revision and motivation games are in the Czech realia education and if they can bring something new for students. The first part of my diploma essay is devoted to realia description, their classification and problems connected with organisation of this education type. In the rest of chapters, the game is treated as a way of education which can be even used in Czech realia studies. In the empiric part of my essay, I used an electronic questionnaire to find out the opinions of teachers of Czech as a foreign language which they have on Czech realia studies and using game there. The research dates serve as further motivation item for realisation of the second research which is devoted to suggestion of revision and motivation games for Czech realia studies, their practising and evaluation from the point of view to school results...

This diploma thesis deals with support of speaking competence of children in primary school. It focuses especially on the 5th and 6th grade students and on an expository writing whereas it explicates the basic developmental characteristics of this age group. In its crucial part, diploma comes with a unique set of activities, which could accompany the exercises in the Czech language textbooks used nowadays. Finally, in the closing chapter, the testing of selected activities with a group of 5th grade students is described including an evaluation and a feedback of students. Abstract:
The work of Jiři Levý, the pioneering Czech translation scholar of the 20th century, shares a lot of common ground with the (neo)hermeneutic approach in translation studies. A closer look reveals, however, a good number of differing, and even opposite stances. For chronological reasons, Levý himself cannot be regarded a member of the neohermeneutic movement in translation studies; thus, the following questions arise: 1) What is the extent of overlap between Levý’s work and that of the main representatives of the hermeneutic approach in translation studies, mainly in Germany, and 2) how can this overlap be explained? This article seeks to demonstrate the following: There are full ‘matches’ between the two approaches, including some aspects of methodological approach, the value of texts, creativity, translating as a decision process as well as Levý’s concept of perception on the one hand and the hermeneutic circle on the other. A partial overlap between the two approaches has been identified in terms of the following matters: the applicability of translation theory, the language and style of theoretical works, the application of game theory, and the focus on individuals (recipient, translator). As regards differences, these include thematic focus, the idea of a personal link between the text and its recipient, and the concept of subjectivity. The purpose of the article is to show that, rather than being a (direct) predecessor, Levý can be regarded as a precursor of the hermeneutic approach in translation studies. Hopefully, illustrating this affinity between Levý and the hermeneutic approach will foster an interest in his theory, which is marked by openness and dynamism – qualities that also abide in the hermeneutical approaches of our present time.
