The topic of this thesis is political marketing with a focus on marketing communication of Czech political parties. Its title is "Image of political parties in the Czech republic" and describes use of political marketing and its methods or instruments in Czech political environment. At first the thesis describes methods of political marketing especially marketing communication and how five chosen Czech political parties (ODS, ČSSD, KSČM, TOP 09, VV) use them. What is useful, where are mistakes etc. The thesis is focused on image of chosen parties. The aim is to find out, if the identity (planned image) of political parties corresponds with perceived image by young people (18-30 years, university educated). Due to this aim a focus group and a quantitative research were conducted. Their results were compared with planned image detected in interviews with marketing managers of particular parties (except VV). Moreover the thesis contains recommendations for parties for improving their communication to achieve their planned image.

Abstract:

Abstract:
This paper targets the analysis of pensionable systems and proposals for their reformation for Czech Republic and Germany. These systems are built up on the same principle - continuous financing. Regardless this facticity my endeavour is to prove and to point out to similar and different characters of these systems. For centuries Germany have played very important role in Czech history. We can say that Germany affected today's present in our republic. This paper tries to show mutual coherence between these two pensionable systems. My analysis accentuates conformity and difference in historical development, contemporary structure of these systems, instituted reforms and political proposals for future development. The first part analyzes basic theory. The second part compares pensionable systems in Czech Republic and in Germany.

Abstract:
This paper, entitled "Development of Left-Wing Parties in Czech Republic and Slovakia (Comparison)", deals with the topic o f great importance for post-communist regimes. Aim of the paper is comparison of the situation in this field in both countries. After brief introduction (Chapter 1), the theoretical concepts o f used in analysis are described (Chapter 2). These include theory o f transitions to democracy and concepts for classification of political parties, namely theory o f cleavages and theory o f ideological families. These theoretical parts are followed by analysis of situation in each country, first the Czech Republic in Chapter 3 and then Slovakia in Chapter 4. For both countries, overall evolution of party system is described. Then, development of each party is examined more closely. Comparison is given in Chapter 5. The comparison showed that there are some similarities in development of Czech and Slovak left-wing political parties. Especially in the first period after the fall of Communist regime, both party systems were alike. However, differences emerged later. In the Czech Republic, party system developed standard western-like structure by the election o f 1998. On the contrary, development of Slovak party system was complicated and it is not finished yet. Abstract:
This work is about the renewal of the Czech party system in period of 1943-1945. The introduction focuses on the liquidation of the party system in 1938, the party system of the Second Republic and contextualisation of the work to party systems theories. Another part deals with the formation of concepts of domestic and foreign Czechoslovak resistance on the future shape of the party system, in particular the cooperation of Moscow and London exile. The thesis describes the relationships and actions of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia, based in the Soviet Union and their democratic competitors, who were headquartered in London, where the President Beneš and the State Council were seated. In particular, these relationships are the starting point for this work's research thesis: how the negotiations between the exile in London and Moscow influence and determined the post-war party constitution. The hypothesis that the activity of the Czechoslovak Communist Party in the Moscow exile was vital for the post-war party development will be confirmed or disproved in the conclusion. The final chapter focuses on initial period of the restoration of the organizational form and policy programs of the party system in the years 1944 - 1945 and the beginnings of activity of the parties within the National Front...

Full text
Abstract:
The presented text of this thesis focuses on the issue of changing the organizational structure of a party, or on the transition of one type of political party to another, ie from the side of the cadres to the side of the masses. The work is based primarily on the Duverger's classification of political parties, on the basis of which the criteria are based on which the parties are judged. These criteria are defined in the first part of the text. In the second part of the text, this typology is applied to selected political parties. Each of the monitored parties is examined separately according to the criteria presented and defined in the first part of the text. The research sample of this work is made up of the so-called "five" parties, ie Agrarians, Social Democrats, National Democrats, Christian Democrats and National Socialists. The thesis deals with the extent to which the designated political parties correspond to one or the other type and what changes their internal organization has experienced. In other words, whether there has been a change in the organizational structure, ie the change from the cadre-type to the mas-type side and, if so, in what specific parameters.

Abstract:
This thesis seeks to analyse small parties within the Czech party system with the focus on the period of 1996 - 2010. The Attention is paid to those small parties that succeeded in the elections to the Chamber of Deputies. A theoretical framework of the small parties is presented in the first chapter. It is also necessary to outline a development of the small parties before the examined era (i.e. 1989-1996). There is a need to ask whether the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia could be seen as a small party or not. The main part of the work concentrates on years following the election in 1996 till last one in 2010 because it is recognised that circa since that time the Czech party system has begun to stabilise. It is structured in a chronological order from one election to another. Here 3 aspects that are related to the activities of the small parties, according to the author are studied: 1. results of the parties in elections to the Chamber of Deputies. 2. parties' influence at the time of creating a national government. 3. a position of the parties within a defined election period. In the last chapter the author placed results of one part of his research that was based on interviewing mainly former small parties MPs. The second part (inquiry via e-mail correspondence) is offered in the appendix.

Abstract:
Bibliographic note STAHL, C. (2014): Cleavage Politics and Europeanisation-induced transformation of the national political space - The Case of the Czech Republic, 94 p. Master thesis, Charles University, Faculty of Social Sciences, Institute of International Studies. Supervisor: doc. PhDr. Jiří Vykoukal, CSc. Abstract This research seeks to map the national political space and assess the prevailing cleavage patterns in the Czech Republic. Processes of globalisation and Europeanisation have left their imprint in Western Europe - splitting the electorate into winners and losers of globalisation and denationalisation. This demarcation vs. integration magnet is also relevant in the CEE region - altering and reshuffling the underlying structure of party competition and EU contestation. By employing quantitative content analysis of print media the prevailing issue and cleavage dimensions will be reconstructed both during early stages of democratic transition (1996 Parliamentary elections) and after the 2004-EU-enlargement (2010 elections). While the political discourse and politics in the 1990s are primarily structured by issues of economic transition and post-communist transformation (underlying the classical socio-economic cleavage between market and state), in 2010 also cultural and post-materialist political...

Abstract:
The master thesis "Development of the Czech party system between 2010-2013" focuses on an analysis of the state of the Czech party system with an emphasis on political developments over the past few years as well as the last two Czech Parliamentary elections in 2010 and 2013. The results of the elections deviate from the long term developments in the country since the 1990s and the fall of the communist regime. The goal of this work is to define phases which capture the essential developments of the Czech party system and what trends it currently demonstrates using quantitative methods which will help us to calculate things such as the index of the effective number of parties in the party system. The main question that this work will try to answer is whether or not we can consider the Czech party system to be consolidated.

The association agreement between EU and Ukraine includes visa liberalization, which brings concerns about the capability of absorbing the increasing migration of Ukrainian citizens in the Czech Republic. The theses aims at showing realistic state of affairs especially through statistics and interviews with members of crucial interest groups connected to migration process. The text is demonstrating that number of Ukrainians in the Czech Republic is significantly raising, but we cannot consider this raise as intractable. The increase directly connected with visa liberalization can be clearly demonstrated at the number of tourists. Looking at the number of asylum applications, growth was not noted which is considered as sign of well-managed liberalization of migration. Significant changes cannot be seen also in the statistics of illegal migration. Nevertheless, members of foreign police agree that they observe increase of illegal Ukrainians but do not have the capacities to arrest them and register as illegal in the statistics. Visa liberalization is not the only reason of the increase of Ukrainians in the Czech Republic. Major influence is the overall socio-economic situation of both countries and especially extremely low unemployment in the Czech Republic, which creates pressure to the employers...

Abstract:
Czech party system can be described as relatively young compared to other, especially western European party systems. However in these days we can identify a number of regional parties inside it. This work answers the question how we can accurately identify which political entities belong to the group of regional parties in the context of the Czech Republic and which not. Likewise, it brings analysis of the position of these kinds of formations in the Czech political system. The theoretical part deals with the definition of "regional party". It brings several different theoretical approaches, which deal with the definition of that term, and then examines the application of the definition of regional parties to the case of the Czech Republic. In the analytical part, which is a case study, there is defined circuit of Czech regional parties. After that it is presented comprehensive analysis of these subjects on base of official documents of these parties, such as their articles of association, political program etc., as well as statistical data kept in the databases of central government authorities of the Czech Republic and interviews with members of selected regional formations. Abstract:
This diploma thesis aims to identify the possible causes of the success of pirate parties in Iceland and the Czech Republic. The success is defined as entering the national parliaments. This was failed by pirate parties in Sweden and Germany despite their popularity. Thus, the work examines four political parties and four countries in which these parties are located. The purpose of the analysis is to find out what makes the successful parties different from the unsuccessful ones or what the successful parties have in common. The analysis is based on testing and measuring the factors contributing to the initial success of the new political parties and to the ability of maintaining their popularity. The theoretical framework for the electoral success of pirate parties is measured by factors that are derived primarily from the theory of the rise of new challenger parties by Airo Hino and from the concept of the organizational strength of political parties by Margit Tavits. The framework is expanded with additional indicators proposed by the author. The basis of the tested groups of factors is composed of quantitative variables, that includes the institutional conditions, socio-economic conditions and political conditions of the systems in which the parties are located, as well as the strength of the...

Abstract:
Research on political parties and their organizational stability presents one of the most important research agendas in modern comparative politics. Especially among newly democratized countries of the Central and Eastern Europe, the consolidation of democratic political institutions used to be considered as a key factor for the successful finishing of the whole transitional process. Despite the fact that most of the transitologists optimistically perceived the consolidation of the new democracies as a one-way process, the most of party systems in the eastern countries experienced serious changes and periods of instability within the last ten years. The most notable change was definitely the unexpected electoral success of genuinely new political parties and movements usually led by a political entrepreneur and formed without solid organizational background or solid ties to society. This tendency further turned into a new wave of unpredictability even within the party systems commonly perceived as fully stabilized and consolidated. Based on such new conditions, the contemporary party researchers turn their attention towards possible interpretations of this unprecedented phenomenon. This dissertation contributes to this discussion by the attempt to operationalize and explain the level of...

More specifically, it describes how the standing of small parties is affected during ongoing gradual bipolarization. There are two approaches to the research. First, the paper examines the effect the electoral mechanism on the party's system have in the Czech Republic focusing on the parliament elections to the Chamber of Deputies in years 2002-2010. The mechanical and psychological elements of the elections influencing the profits of small parliament parties are analyzed. Second, the thesis addresses other factors concerning the election competitions that affect the standing of small parliament parties. The election campaigns in the 21st century are being professionalized and there is bipolarization of the election competitions. The party's structure is not influenced merely by the election rules. Abstract:
The main claim of my thesis is that demand of higher representation of women in politics and calling for quotas are legitimate. This claim is based on theoretical framework of descriptive and group representation. Essentialism is rejected in the line of reasoning in favour of more women in politics. Instead, current disadvantage of women and social and institutional barriers are pointed out. Although there are no common women's interestes, equality issues are predominantly placed on the political agenda by female politicians. Besides gender stereotypes the biggest obstacle for women in politics are their own political parties because they nominate few women and they do not place them at the top of candidate lists. Civic Democratic Party before election to Chamber of Deputies in 2013 was an example of the concept glass cliff when women get to leadership positions in the context of crisis. Quotas are based on mistrust of gradual development. Efficiency of quotas depends on how many political parties use them and in which position in parlament these parties are. The order of candidates on the ballots is also important. Nowadays there is a proposal of legislative quotas which would be obligatory for all political parties.

Abstract:
The thesis Political Programmes of the Czech Representation in the Second Halve of the 19th Century focuses on both programme documents and actual work of Czech political parties, whether more or less institutionalized, between the years 1848 (March Revolution) and 1918 (the downfall of Austria-Hungary). At first it summarizes the historical development in the respective period (Chapter 1), next, it analyses programmes of political parties in three broadly defined topics: 1) Organisation of the empire, question of the Czech State Right (Chapter 2); 2) Constitutionalism, civil rights and role of a citizen (Chapter 3) and 3) National matters (Chapter 4). The attitudes about each of these areas of the following political parties are defined: Bohemian nobility, National Party (till 1874) or Old Czechs (since then), Young Czechs, Social Democrats, Agrarians, Catholic parties, National Socialists, Progress parties and parties of the Radical State Right, Realists and Anarchists. For the conclusion, the author of the thesis attempts to characterise and evaluating the Czech political representation, as well as its importance for the development since 1918.

Abstract:
The aim of this diploma thesis is to discuss new political parties in the context of the Czech party system. Movement ANO 2011 and Dawn of Direct Democracy are the researched subjects which broke through elections to the Chamber of Deputies in the Czech Republic in 2013. This multiple case study proceeds from the basic and ambiguously gripped notion political party to diverse theoretical aspects of newness, trying to briefly define the Czech party system in the context of new political parties. It is done in terms of legislative rules for (not only new) political parties and also from a developmental view. Afterwards the empirical part works with particular characteristics of two chosen subjects - it gradually focuses on their emergence and development, programme, the leader and members, electoral campaign and their participation in elections. The task of the individual characteristics is to introduce both subjects accurately so their common and different traits are obvious. The gained findings are later assessed by the view of the chosen Sikk's theory of newness. There is examined if ANO and Dawn fall into some of the categories defined by this theory. The diploma thesis tries to shift the state of knowledge of new Czech political parties and refers to the positives and negatives of the chosen...

Abstract:
In the last few years new parties were rising in the post-communist bloc rapidly. Moreover, many of them were successful in the parliamentary elections. Party systems were slowly stabilizing and now they are threatened by new influences. Success of new parties is changing current politics in the central and eastern Europe. These parties are connected not only by the date of foundation but also by the way they act against current establishment. Despite their different strategies, level of success and their creation, their quick unexpected success is interesting. What is the structure of the electorate? This work is focused on identifying the structure of electorate of the new parties in central and eastern Europe. It is divided into two parts. First one, summarizes the theoretical concepts concerning the study of the new parties and clearly identifies what kind of new parties will be considered in this work. For this designation are used theories by Paul Lucardie, Allan Sikk a Krystyna Litton. Second part is quantitative research, based on advanced statistical methods. The research is trying to accurately identify what kind of social groups in the population are most likely to vote for the new parties. In this research is used OLS regression analysis on the global (state) level and for more accurate...

Abstract:

Abstract:
This diploma thesis deals with a development of the socioeconomic cleavage in the party systems of the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland in 2006 - 2012. At the beginning the theory of cleavages by S. Rokkan and S. M. Lipset and the enlargement to post-communist countries of Klaus von Beyme, are presented. There are also mentioned concepts of other authors. The thesis tries to answer a few questions. Firstly, what form did this line have in the monitored period (transformation line vs. classical socioeconomic line). Secondly, how big was an impact on the political right-left orientation of the political parties, and thirdly, how significant was this line for the party-political system of selected countries in this period. There is also a brief development of the party system after 1989 as well as the ideological profiles of parliamentary parties given in each chapter focused on particular country. One part of it deals also with the economic and social climate in the monitored period. Then the work is based mainly on the analysis of party's agenda, with an emphasis on the socioeconomic line.

Abstract:
Thesis deals with the issue of dissolution of political parties. States should recognise that everyone has the right to associate freely in political parties. As a particularly far-reaching measure, enforced dissolution of political party may only be justified in the case of party that advocates the use of violence as a political means to overthrow the democratic constitutional order, thereby undermining the rights and freedoms guaranteed by the constitution. The dissolution of a political party is an exceptional measure in a democratic society and should be govern by the principle of proportionality. Apart from Czech legislation and recent judicial cases, this thesis is focused on Slovak and German experience with political party ban. Relevant decisions of European Court of Human Rights are introduced as well. In the first chapter the term "political party" is defined. Essential role of the political parties in parliamentary democracy as well as its extraordinary status among associations is emphasized. This part of thesis discusses situations when state can interfere with freedom of association or freedom of speech. Legally defined reasons for the dissolution of political parties are explained. These legal reasons are defined by criteria abstractly formulated, therefore a statutory interpretation...

Abstract:
This diploma thesis examines the Czech expression copak and its translation counterparts. It focuses on the individual functions and meanings of copak and the ways these are expressed in the English translation. The aim of the present paper is to determine to what extent the discourse meanings of copak as a particle are maintained in the translations and what means English uses to do so. Regarding the pronominal function of copak, the main issue is to examine whether the postfix -pak is reflected in the English translations or not and what equivalents are used in comparison to the forms without the postfix. Another objective is to analyse the English counterparts according to their formal representation and define their discourse functions in respect to the discourse meanings of the Czech originals containing copak. The research carried out in the present thesis was based on material drawn from the parallel corpus InterCorp. A total of 240 examples with the expression copak was excerpted with the English translations aligned to them. The analysis was divided into five parts, according to the particular word class of copak. Particles proved to be the most productive word class, as they provided 187 examples and 25 different translation counterparts, negative question being the most frequent one. The...

Abstract:
The subject of this dissertation thesis is investigating the issue of the German ethnic group status in inter-war Czechoslovakia shown in the example of the Nejdek political district with the emphasis on the major and crucial aspects of social life - politics, economic and social issues while the assistance and support elements include: demographics, border issues, the presence of the Czech ethnic group, a preview of own (German) history and the development of churches and religion. The Nejdek political district is set within a framework of regional history with regard to the historical context of the development of Czechoslovakia, or even of the world in some cases. The regional history presented here in the form of a probe from the perspective of great historical events and partly through micro-history aim to build on the broad source base and capture the impacts and effects of national policies on shaping of the Nejdek region and its inhabitants. In some ways, when possible of course, research methods are applied. Overall, the work is to fill the so-called white gaps in the regional historiography, since the books or studies published so far have been focusing only on partial, closely regionally defined topics and only comprehensive work, which the author of this paper attempts, could therefore...

Abstract:
The aim of the present study is to describe and analyze the English comment clause you know in a corpus of written sources called Intercorp and a corpus created of eight episodes of the television series Friends, which represents the natural language. The study works with the presumption that the language of the TV show Friends is in its conversational nature similar to the natural language of conversations and therefore can be contrasted to the artificial language of written form. As the Czech translations of both corpora are available to us, the study greatly focuses on two main aspects: the Czech translation counterparts of the you know comment clause and their pragmatic functions. The theoretical part introduces the comment clauses, describing their features and functions, not only as described by Quirk et al. (1985), but also from the point of view of the discourse linguists that see the comment clauses like you know as markers and specialize in their research, mostly Povolná (2010), Stenström (1995), Schiffrin (1987) and others. The outline of potential Czech counterparts is given as well, suggested by Dušková (2009), Běličová (1993) and duo Grepl & Karlík (1998, 1999). Moreover, we mention the language of television and the difference between conventional and audiovisual translation, and the...
