Abstract:
The objective of the present study was to assess the Czech warm‑blood stallions based on results of basic performance tests of their daughters. We evaluated 1140 daughters of 51 fathers. On the basis of calculations we eliminated the following effects: year of the test, registration of the mare in the appropriate section of the Stud Book and group of commissioners. Data were evaluated using the GLM procedure and included the effect of the stallion, year of the performance test of the mares and filing in the respective section of the Stud Book. We discovered that the impact of all three effects was statistically significant. The effect of the stallion was just below the margin of significance P ≤ 0.05, the other two effects were below P ≤ 0.01. We compared the stallions – fathers, according to the average performances of their daughters in the basic performance tests. The performances of daughters of stallions 1850 Cannavaro, 2901 Lancelot, 1659 Jimtown, 1028 Manillon Rouge and 1053 Guidam Sohn were the highest; the performances of daughters of stallions 1260 Askano‑T, 718 Mineral 1599 Norman, 2726 Cartouche and 1358 Lord Caletto were the lowest.

Abstract:
The objective of the study was to analyse the dynamics of growth of the Czech warm-blood young horses and to evaluate the effect of rearing facilities for testing young horses (RFT) on the increase in body measurements of the young horses. Groundwork data were obtained from the database of the Czech Warm-Blood Horse Breeders Association which contains data on the regular grading of the young horses in the RFT facilities. Data from the year 2001 to 2011 from 7 RFT facilities for young horses of the Czech warm-blood were entered in the basic database. Statistical processing of the database using the GLM method revealed that the RFT had a statistically significant effect on the tape-measure, heart-girth and bone. By multiple comparisons of the individual effects using the Tukey-B method we discovered statistically significant differences in body measurements of the young horses among the respective rearing facilities for testing young horses. The growth dynamics of young horses in the individual RFT considerably differed. The growth of young horses from the RFT Železnice was the most balanced showing no marked fluctuations. In the other rearing facilities the growth of the young horses fluctuated considerably in the course of the testing period; particularly in the Albertovec, Tlumačov and Luka-Týn rearing facilities for testing young horses the growth of the young horses was retarded in the second half of the testing period.

Abstract:
The objective of the present study was to analyse the numbers and division of horses of undefined breed. At the present time this group is the most numerous in the entire population of horses. Horses of undefined breed do not come under any breeder union which would provide reports about these horses; these horses are only registered and breeders are informed only about their numbers. Our study is the first to deal with the problem of increasing numbers of horses of undefined breed. The database contained 22 211 horses not entered registered in any of the stud books. In the database we filed approved horses born between 1972 and 1 September 2012 and horses registered from 1987. The data were processed in the Excel programme and results were evaluated in graphs. The most frequent horse in this group was the warm-blood type (n = 9 303), pony type (n = 6 285), cold-blooded type (n = 2 663) and unlisted horses (n = 2 278). Since 2001 the number of registered horses of undefined breed has increased. The most numerous dams of horses of undefined breed is the Czech warm-blood with 1 912 offspring; dams of the English Thoroughbred with 552 offspring and mares of the utility Huzule horse with 492 offspring. In the group of registered horses of undefined breed the Czech warm-blood appears in the pedigree of 507 colts and the American Paint Horse in the pedigree of sires of 506 colts. Why the numbers of horses of undefined breed are increasing is the boom of leisure horsemanship and unqualified horse breeding.

Abstract:
The objective of the study was to evaluate and compare sires based on results of their offspring in the Criteria of Young Horses. The Criteria of Young Horses are intended for stallions and mares of 4 to 6 years of age. The competitions are announced by the Czech Equestrian Federation in co-operation with breeders’ associations of the Bohemian warm-blood, Slovakian warm-blood, Kinský horse and Moravian warm-blood breeds. The horses were evaluated in the arena by the assessor and given three marks: for show jumping, agility and readiness of the horse. Data were obtained in co-operation with the Czech Equestrian Federation. Evaluated were the results of the Criteria of Young Horses in show jumping competitions held in 1998–2007. Only sires with 7 and more offspring were assessed. Analysis of variance was carried out followed by tests according to Scheffe. The Excel 2003 and Statistica version 8 were used for processing the database and for statistical processing. Comparisons based on marks given by the assessor in the arena showed that the highest-placed stallion was Acord II and was followed by Catango Z, Calido I and Landos. The offspring of the Hanoverian stallion Walzerkönig were the lowest-placed; the second worst-placed were the offspring of Diktant slatiňanský, a stallion of Czech origin. The differences among these stallions were statistically significant. In comparisons based on marks as the second indicator, the offspring of stallions Acord II, Catango Z and Ascot were the highest-placed and offspring of stallion Diktant slatiňanský were the lowest-placed. The difference between these stallions was statistically significant. Based on the third indicator the offspring of stallions Acord II and Catango Z were the highest-placed. By contrast, the worst were offspring of stallions Duramus II and Duman. The differences between Acord II and Duramus II were statistically significant. According to the resulting total evaluation the highest rating went to offspring of stallion Acord II, followed by Catango Z, Autonom s.v. and Landos. The worst rating went to offspring of stallions Duman, Walzerkönig, Cattaro and Diktant slatiňanský. Comparisons showed that the differences were statistically significant only between Acord II and Diktant slatiňanský.

Abstract:
Using the Excel programme a database was created of 332 horses born at the horse breeding station (ŠCHK) – Měník after 1 August 1993. The database was transferred to the Unistat 6.5 programme and by means of the linear model GLM evaluated were some effects on horse performance in the horse breeding station (ŠCHK) – Měník. For the evaluation of breeding activities we selected a few important effects on the herd, i.e. sex, father (line), mother (family) and year of birth. For each horse of the database we identified the basic measurements, results from the score on entry into the studbook and performance tests. The database included a total of 15 homogeneous families and their numerous offspring. The following stallions influenced the herd: 366 Taarlo, 616 Erudit, 2626 Sahib Kubišta, 525 Tarlo Kubišta, 1004 First Bride, 2805 Le Patron, 630 Przedswit Makebo, 1028 Manillon Rouge and 2640 Radegast. Rating based on the variable score on entry into the studbook and the basic performance test was statistically the highest in 1994. In dependence on the basic performance test the rating of stallion 1028 Manillon Rouge was the highest with an average of 7.8 scores. The families Forma and Gama S reached the statistically significantly highest scores for the dependent variables of the testing rearing house and heart girth. The mares have a statistically significantly larger heart girth than the stallions. Stallion 2640 Radegast had a bone diameter of 22 cm which was statistically significantly the highest rating; stallion 616 Erudit had the lowest rating.

Abstract:
The objective of the study was to evaluate the effect of foreign studbooks in the breeding of warm-blood horses in the Czech Republic in the period 2000–2009. We included the following effects in our research: group based on the prevailing horse breed, year of start, sex, age and country of birth. We evaluated the effect of these parameters on the sports performance in show jumping competitions. The sports performance was based on the number of PPB points. The data were processed statistically using the general linear model (GLM). We discovered that the effect of these parameters was statistically highly significant. The HOLST1 group showed the highest performance (4.754 PPB points) and stands for individuals with a 100% proportion of the Holstein studbook. The second most successful group was KWPN1 (4.748). In the individual years of our investigations we found 22 statistically significant differences. For the entire period the number of PPB points was the highest in 2009 (3.420) and the lowest in 2000 and 2001 (2.678 and 2.779, respectively). The performance tended to increase in the individual years. We compared the performance of horses born in the Czech Republic and abroad and we discovered that performance was statistically higher in the group of imported horses. In terms of the effect of sex on the performance of horses in show jumping events the group of stallions showed the highest performance based on PPB points (3.842). In the experiment we estimated the effect of age on the sports performance; the group of 9-year-old horses achieved the highest performance based on PPB points (3.433).

Abstract:
Objective: to assess perspectives using biomarkers for early detection of developing acute kidney injury (AKI) among patients during partial nephrectomy under the warm ischemia of the kidney. Materials and methods: data of 100 patients was assessed with a localized renal cancer Т1N0М0 aged 56,5±8,7 years. All the patients underwent partial nephrectomy under warm ischemia of the kidney. The concentration of the following “early markers of AKI” was tested in blood of the patients using the ELISA technique and standard test-systems: cystatin С (BioVendor, Czech Republic), NGAL (BCMDiagnostics, USA), L-FABP (Hycult Biotechnology, Netherlands). The duration of warm ischemia was also fixed and the rate of diuresis was valued either. The test was carried out 24 hours prior to and 16 hours after the surgical interference. All the patients were diagnosed and classified by the presence or absence of AKI during the early postoperative period according to the generally accepted classification KDIGO. The obtained results were processed with the help of Microsoft Excel software, the statistical reliability of the results was defined on the basis of the use of Wilcoxon non-parametric test. Simultaneously the expert analysis of the clinical data and results of the laboratory research was carried out. Results: the method of the early diagnostics of AKI among patients who underwent partial nephrectomy under the warm ischemia of the kidney was developed. The method is based on the successive identification of the concentration of the early biochemical markers of AKI, the duration of warm ischemia and the rate of diuresis. Conclusions: the use of the developed method allows diagnosing the development of AKI among patients undergoing partial nephretomy under the warm ischemia already in 16 hours after the surgical interference (before the rise in the creatinine level).

Abstract:
A study was carried out on 11 horse breeds comprising of the Akhal Teke (n = 23); English Thoroughbred (n = 23); Arabian Thoroughbred (n = 18); Czech Warm-Blood (n = 21); Old Kladrubian horse (n = 20); Hucul horse (n = 20); Czech – Moravian Belgian horse (n = 20); Noriker horse (n = 7); Silesian Noriker (n = 14); Haflinger (n = 20); Shetland pony (n = 20) to determine the shape and size of chestnuts. Chestnuts of 206 horses classified in three phylogeny classes were measured and drawn. The necessary data (breed; sex; name; sire; dam; sire of dam; age of horse; colour of horse; colour of the chestnut; bone) were entered into a special form. In the form the outlines of the shapes of the chestnuts were drawn; using a calliper we measured the protrusion of the chestnut at its highest point and the width at the widest part of the chestnut. We found no identical or similar shapes of the chestnuts within the breed or phylogeny class. We confirmed that the outlines of the chestnuts can be used as identifying marks because they are unique for each horse. We also tried to determine how the size of the chestnut is related to the strength of the skeleton but we failed to prove this dependence statistically. Using the general linear model (GLM) we discovered a statistically highly significant effect of the phylogeny class on the height and width of the chestnuts on all four limbs. The age factor has a statistically highly significant effect on the width of the chestnut on both front legs. Sex has a statistically significant effect on the height of the chestnut on both hind legs.
