Abstract We have used a discriminant function analysis to compare morphology of five Czech autochthonous breeds (including two colour varieties as independent breeds) to test whether a small number of basic morphological variables (wither height, thoracic, nose and shin perimeter, length of head) can discriminate them. Based on a data set comprising 2879 animals and 17 nuclear microsatellite DNA markers, we propose the most comprehensive in-depth study mapping the genetic structure and specifying the assignment success rates in horse breeds at the Czech population scale. Abstract We tested whether pronounced morphological variability of horses caused by artificial selection was followed also by variation in their vocalization. We compared whinnies of 10 breeds representing horse varieties both in morphology and history using discrimination analyses (Wilks´ lambda = 0.070). Whinnies of Shetland pony were the most distinct from calls of other breeds (74.1% classification success). This result is in agreement with distinction based on morphological features. The thesis evaluates the performance testing system of Czech Warmblood stallions. Data acquired from basic stallion preformance test were analysed. Analysed data covered figures of 302 stallions from 9 test stations, taken in years 2007 to 2010. 12 traits of each stallion were analysed. Only basic statistic characteristics were used. Traits were compared by years, testing stations and especially by preferred sirs. The statistic evaluation of traits pointed the best sirs for breeding.
