Abstract:
The Czech writer Jan Cep (1902-1974), one of important mediators of French-Czech cultural relations between the two World Wars, was forced to emigrate after the Communist coup in 1948. As Cep was the friend and translator of Pourrat and Bernanos, he naturally chose France as his adoptive homeland. Nevertheless, exile in Paris turned into a harsh existential ordeal for Cep. Difficult material conditions, linguistic disunity, and the fact that his writing was not accepted by a new audience made Cep an outsider in a French literary life. This status led to his increased involvement in the Czech émigré community, especially work on the Czechoslovak editorial staff of Radio Free Europe, where he developed his essay style in meditations infused with Christian humanism. The autobiographical essay My Sister Anxiety, written in French in the 1960s, repesents a summary of Cep’s life and ideas

Abstract:
The master thesis František Šimáček (1834-1885), the Journalist and Publisher tries to introduce an important person of the Czech nationalistic movement of the 1850's-1880's from different aspects, i. e. concerning his activity in the fields of journalism, publishing, national movement, national economy and his family life. General research method used in the thesis is biographically focused analysis of the primary sources, mainly private correspondence and other documents from collections of the Literary Archive of the Museum of Czech Literature, the National Museum Library and the Náprstek Museum of Asian, African and American Cultures. Based on the method, the chronological construction of history of Šimáček's life, his public and professional activities was outlined. Sufficient literature concerning the topic which would analyse in detail scope of activities of František Šimáček in the context of the Czech intellectual milieu in the 19th century is unfortunately lacking in the meantime. Fragmentarily preserved archival documents do not allow us to follow Šimáček's public contacts with all important actors of the Czech cultural and political life in the 19th century. Therefore, a deeper relationship with Božena Němcová was chosen as an example of Šimáček's steadier and lasting friendships with...

Abstract:
This master's thesis deals with the media response to the Writers Convention that took place on 5 and 6 June 2015 in Prague. This convention was the first meeting of that name in the post-communist era. By naming it such, the organizers claimed a clear succession to conventions that happened before the year 1989 - especially to those in 1956 and 1967, which became important turning points not only culturally, but also politically. The 2015 Convention was organized by Writers Association - a professional organization established in November 2014. One of the reasons why it was founded was the conviction that the organisation named Writers Union, existing from 1989, is not functional anymore and does not sufficiently represent authors' interests. The first two chapters inquiry into the history of both of these organizations with the aim to identify problematic aspects in their operations. Through their media reflection, the history, activities and themes with which they deal are introduced. The aim is to show the broader issue of official writers associations as well as the relevance of the Writers Association as an organization representing the literary public. The third chapter presents the views on today's position of literature in society as it is reflected in media entries related to the...

TITLE: Morphological Variation in Spoken and Written Communication of Pupils from the Sixth to the Ninth Grade in the Central Bohemian Dialect Region AUTHOR: Pavel Sojka DEPARTMENT: Czech Language Department, Faculty of Education in Prague SUPERVISOR: PhDr. Ladislav Janovec, Ph.D. ABSTRACT This dissertation presents the results of the research in the morphological variation in the spoken and written expression of primary-school pupils (sixth-to-ninth graders) within the central Bohemian dialect region. The impetus behind this research is the long-standing requirement for linguistic examination to pay attention not only to the language of adults, but also to that of pupils and students. From the viewpoint of pedagogy, it establishes the extent to which the speech of children and youth features typical morphological tendencies of contemporary Czech, from the viewpoint of linguistics, it verifies the extent to which schooling manages to fulfill one of the crucial goals of linguistic education, i.e. appropriation of the standardized form of national language. The examined material comprised three specimens: transcriptions from lessons, recordings of a radio show and internet advertisements. The analysis of the specified linguistic material yielded that from the viewpoint of the usage of standard morphology,...

The topic of the dissertation is the communication of the deaf in written Czech. The theoretical part presents the studies of written Czech for the deaf which have been carried out in the Czech Republic so far, considers the causes of difficulties the deaf encounter when making Czech written texts, and deals with the position of written Czech in the education of the deaf. The next part is devoted to the Czech sign language, the characteristics of its specifics and its role in the communication and education of deaf pupils, especially in connection with the currently valid legislation. Attention is also focused on the components and construction of narrative texts and on the acquisition of narrative competencies in spoken and sign languages. The research part is focused on the qualitative analysis of narrative texts in Czech, the authors of which are deaf pupils of two primary schools for the hearing impaired aged 14 to 16, and which were created on the basis of a picture story. As part of the analysis of written narratives, attention is focused on the specific features which make the written texts of the deaf different from the texts written by hearing Czechs. Abstract:
in English: Keywords: literary analysis, imagology, Czech migrant writers, Dutch literature, Jana Beranová, Jan Stavinoha The diploma thesis aims to explore the portrayal of Czech characters and the Czechoslovakia in Dutch-language works written by authors of Czech origin, namely in selected novels by Jana Beranová and Jan Stavinoha. The principal research questions are: 1. What motifs typical of migrant literature might be identified in the analysed novels? 2. How are the Czech characters portrayed? 3. How is the Czechoslovakia portrayed? Is the portrayal of the country of origin contrasted with that of the country of arrival, i.e. the Netherlands? The theoretical framework of the diploma thesis focuses on Dutch migrant literature and socio-political environment in Czechoslovakia from 1945 until present. The method used in the thesis is based on imagology and structural analysis. The practical part provides an analysis of the novels Nu delen we een geheim (1992) by Jana Beranová and In goede handen (1984) by Jan Stavinoha. As the analysis illustrates, the two novels include features of migrant literature as described in critical sources, such as the depiction of oppression in one's homeland, the life between two cultures and the difficulty of overcoming the language barrier. The aim of the thesis is to investigate conjunctions in spoken and written language, their usage both in texts and in relations with neighboring words, further to compare their usage in written and spoken language. Theoretical background of this thesis is based on several works, which are devoted to this issue, either in whole or to some of its parts. However, the work itself is driven by the Czech National Corpus (hereafter CNC), namely the corpora SYN2005 and ORAL2008. First chapter deals with CNC and conjunctions in general, second investigates secondary linking conjunctions, their use in text types and surrounding words. Abstract:
This diploma thesis deals, in a broader sense, with classroom interaction betwen students and history teachers at secondary schools for hearing impaired in the Czech Republic. In a narrower sense, it examines a pattern of teacher's language behaviour and his/her motivation when choosing relevant language means during his/her history classes. The work consists of two parts - theoretical specialized background, and practical research. The theoretical part gives an overview of the relevant specialized terminology used in the Czech Republic and abroad, as well as a short insight into the development of classroom interaction between a student and a teacher at special schools and pays attention to the developmental linguo-didactic aspects in the Czech schools for hearing impaired. The practical part uses qualitative research as a means of a research method. I have observed and filmed history classes at three secondary schools for hearing impaired. As my research interests laid within the above mentioned research technique, I did not assess teaching methodology of the teachers. I focused mainly on the form of teacher's communication. Apart from class observation and filming, I also carried out an after-class interview with each teacher about his/her motivation for the choice of language behaviour. Special...

Abstract:
Kveten was a monthly magazine for literature and art (and by its third year also for "life"), which was published under the auspices of the Union of Czechoslovak Writers from September 1956 to June 1959. It was founded as a magazine for "aspiring writers", but quite soon this concept proved to be unsustainable and members of the editorial board started to give the magazine its own new look, which got even a more comprehensible form during the II. Czechoslovak Writers Congress, after young poets (and theorists) manifested the "Poetry of Everyday Life". It was, however, defined quite generally and maybe even vaguely, which is the fact the authors were struggling with during the following year. At the same time they are exposed to the pressure of official authorities as "anti-revisionism" began to destroy liberal environment that prevailed around 1956. Kveten tried to resist this tendency. In addition, at that time young theorists found a firmer basis, which gradually became unacceptable for the regime. At the beginning of 1959 there comes a wave of heavy critcism and results in abolishing the magazine. In my thesis I demonstrate through archival research, oral history and semiotic analysis that despite the abolition the management of Kveten maintained the principle of "partiality" and is guilty rather for...

The aim of the thesis is to find out if and how the expectations of the readers change with their literary context and to discover the extent to which the contemporary writers Petr Nikl and Philippe Lechermeier come to meet their audiences. Abstract:
The present work focuses on metalanguage comments in Slovak and Czech texts. The comments occur together with contact-induced phenomena employed by both languages and can be identified in text fragments, such as Áno, taký som aj ostanem, lebo vraj starého psa novým kouskúm nenaučíš - ako hovoria bratia Česi / Nebyl jsem schopen jídla, ale lemtal jsem vodu "ani ťava", jak říkají bratia Slováci. The given issue is presented in the context of research focusing on the non-theoretic (folk, naive) metalinguistic reflection. The usage of metalanguage comments, accompanying deliberately contact-induced phenomena, is a testament to the existence of the Czech-Slovak and Slovak-Czech language contact and it clearly shows how Slovak and Czech language users intentionally employ words, multi-word units, idioms and other linguistic devices from the other language to fulfill their communicative intention. By using the contact-induced phenomena from the closely related language the speaker can achieve various communicativ e goals and effects including actualization and refreshing of his or her utterance, being more expressive and filling in subjectively perceived intro-linguistic lacuna. The starting point of the analysis of the metalanguage comments were the data from the Slovak and Czech corpus. A range of...

Resumé v anglickém jazyce Summary This thesis is an attempt to show two authors and mainly two of their major works created in two different cultures, concluded by comparison of these two key works. Vladimír Neff, through his five-part cycle of novels Sňatky z rozumu (and following) dealing to the broad extent with the lives of members of Born and Nedobyl families, has proved his outstanding narrative skills which, together with a fair dose of irony and perfect knowledge of historical facts, make this pentalogy Neff's life work that in a remarkable manner made its way into the history of Czech literature. The author draws very accurate picture of Prague changing over a hundred of years and portrays the glamour of the age that is to be noted for the pursuit of economic and technological progress. Thanks to psychologically very thoroughly and accurately depicted key figures of the founders of abovementioned families, some of which were given the typically bourgeois features by Neff, the readers become close witnesses of their rise and fall. Jaroslaw Iwaszkiewicz in his relatively extensive work Čest a sláva presents the life of two generations on the historical and social background depicted in great detail. PROTECTION OF PERSONALITY IN SCOPE OF LEGAL PHILOSOPHY AND APPLICABLE LAW 1. Summary We can see law from two main perspectives. Law is either complex of written regulations, which are prepared by human beings based on some interests or it is a complex of rules, which altough are written, but its nature are originating from higher normative system. First is a present perspective. Current law science is prefering valid law as complex of regulations published in statute book. What is not banned by law, is allowed.
