Abstract:
Based on the data of daily maximum temperature in 26 meteorological stations in the North Center Region, Vietnam over the period of 1980 to 2013, the authors conducted the research on the spatial distribution of the number of hot days. The initial result shows that in general, in the north of the study area, the large number of hot days occurred in the plain, and tended to decrease westward and eastward. In the south, this number tends to increase from the west to the east. Especially, the largest number occurred in two areas: The Ma and Ca River's valleys (Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces) and the coastal areas (Thua Thien Hue province), creating two heat centers in Tuong Duong district, Nghe An province and Nam Dong district, Thua Thien Hue province.ReferencesAdina-Eliza Croitoru, Adrian Piticar, Antoniu-Flavius Ciupertea, Cristina FlorinaRosca, 2016 Changes in heat wave indices in Romania over the period 1961-2015. Abstract:
Abstract:
This study examines psycholinguistic structure of autobiographical and traumatic narratives representing positive emotional and stressful traumatic life events. The research applied the cross sectional, between subjects design utilizing the independent variables of external agent they, space and time and dependent variable of word number in traumatic narratives for multiple regression analysis. The approval letter to recruit the participants through SONA system in 2015–2016 academic year was obtained from Institutional Review Board of Oklahoma State University (USA). 64 undergraduates of nonclinical setting, females (n=37), males (n=27), mean age was 19.43 (SD=1.37) were recruited. PTSD-8: A Short PTSD Inventory assesses PTSD, the Linguistic Inquiry and Word Count (LIWC) analyzes traumatic and autobiographical narratives in terms of linguistic units and psychological meaningful categories. The results indicate that there are significant differences between pronoun they as external agent of proposition and psychological categories of negative emotions and anxiety in traumatic and autobiographical narratives. The frequency of these categories is higher in traumatic narratives compared with autobiographical narratives. External agent they, category of time and space taken together significantly contribute to word number in traumatic narrative. There is a negative correlation between focus on the past and word count, and positive correlation between social category and word count in traumatic narrative in nonclinical sample. To sum up, propositional structure of traumatic memory of individuals without PTSD is represented by external agent and context (place and time) taken together. Considering time as a significant negative predictor of creating traumatic narrative, temporal processing without overestimation of time is an important factor of avoiding PTSD. The principal theoretical implication of this study is that traumatic memory might be examined through psycholinguistic markers represented by propositional structures and psychological meaningful categories of traumatic narratives in individuals from nonclinical and clinical settings. Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
This article is an inductive argumentation and an empirical-analytical paradigm that evaluates the actual relationship between Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita and the Carbon Dioxide (CO2) in the case of Ecuador and to compare it with Latin America and the Caribbean within a period of analysis from 1960 to 2011. It was developed an Augmented Dickey-Fuller unit root (ADF), a Granger Causality Test and a Johansen Cointegration test. It was obtained a VAR model with two variables with a number of 14 lags – VAR2(14) which were tested for which were tested for causality by demonstrating a bidirectionality for Latin America and the Caribbean and a unidirectionality of GDP per capita to CO2 for the Ecuador. Abstract:
Referencias Alam, S. (2017). Abstract:
The objective of this study is to identify the dimension of the personality that has the greatest influence on the risk of exposure to HIV infection. The models used to fulfill the scientific objective are the empirical method of information gathering and the theoretical deductive method. The 16-FP test and the HIV infection exposure assessment test applied to homosexual adolescents between 18 and 24 years old allowed us to measure the association of the study variables. The non-association between personality and the risk of HIV infection is concluded. The predominant personality dimension is the category called toughness. The prevailing risk level of exposure to HIV is the medium risk. The average age with minimal risk of infection is 20 years, the average risk is 20.9 years, and the high risk of infection is 21.9 years. Keywords: Personality, homosexuality, HIV, risk of infection. Abstract:
Marian devotion has reinforced the construction of collective, but also of individual identities. The figure of the Virgin Mary established a model of conduct through each historical-cultural context, emphasizing in particular the ideals of maternity and virginity. Within the Catholic imaginary, contemporary Europe has been marked by the formation of an apparitionist culture generated by various Marian apparitions that have established a canon and a framework of interpretation that has fuelled the cultural wars between secularism and Catholicism.KEY WORDS: Catholicism, Virgin Mary, apparicionist culture, Lourdes, culture wars. Abstract:

Abstract:
The present research examines the European Directive on the right to information in criminal proceedings (Directive 2012/13/EU, hereinafter ‘the Directive’), assessing the impact that it is likely to have on the Italian legal system. Before analyzing the legislation, the thesis provides an historical overview of the status of human rights safeguards in the EU and a description of its multi-layered system of protection. Starting from the early ECJ case law setting out a ‘human rights theory’, the research moves on to consider the Charter of Nice and the development of a European Area of Criminal Justice, until the Stockholm Program and the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty. In addition, it addresses the question as to whether and to what extent the directives ‘of new generation’ based on art. 82 par. 2 TFEU bring an added value to the aforementioned human rights protection system. Chapters 2 and 3 of the research focus on the analysis of the legislation and on the three meanings that the Directive attaches to the right to information in criminal proceedings, namely, the right to information about rights, the right to information about accusation, and the right to information about case file. The effort is shedding some light on the most innovative prescriptions, while at the same time highlighting how much the EU legislation owes to the ECtHR case law, which is used as a yardstick for the evaluation and interpretation of the Directive. Finally, Chapter 4 addresses the Italian implementing legislation (d. lgs. 101/2014) and the impact of the Directive on our legal system. It finds that the NIM is highly unsatisfactory, as the Italian legislator has failed to comply with the most innovative EU standards. In this regard, the research illustrates the impact of EU prescriptions on the jurisdiction of national judges, in particular, the impact of the ‘new’ right to information about accusation. It concludes that Italian judges can (in)directly apply ECtHR case law standards due the direct effect of the Directive (which can be regarded as an ‘ECtHR case-law codification’).

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
According to administrative tradition, concession is an instrument that allows individuals to use a public good for a particular purpose. This general definition, which includes two adjectives, such as public and particular, reflectes the multifaceted issue of the instrument to fulfill at the same time a public need and an eminently private exigence. This study examined different historical periods and various currents of thoughts, to identify distinctive traits of the concession in Italian legal system, especially focusing on the concession of the infrastructure management of airports and railways. In the background of the tension between two extreme poles of the definition, the notion of public good is believed to be discussed and revisited. Furthermore, the research illustrated the main regulatory framework of port concessions, which were radically changed after the new port law no. 84/1994. According to the new land-lond ports in which port authorities were in charge of coordinating, promoting and planning the port activities with a specific prohibition of any direct involvement, port operations have been awarded to private companies entitled to operate under a concession. Two main port actors became the port authority and the port facilities and terminal operating company, who are the only ones able to manage a terminal and to handle cargoes. The criteria to award port concessions are set out in the article 18 of Law no. 84/1994 as far as concessions of port terminals to stevedoring companies are concerned. The paper explained both issues of renewal and extension of port concession, whose maximum duration cannot exceed the period necessary for the recovery of investments made by the concessionaire, as resulting from the operational and business plan. Moreover, the investigation reconstructed the development of the motorway concessions sector in Italy, starting from their birth, through the privatisation in the 1990s, to finally analyze the debate on a possible re-publication following the collapse of the “Ponte Morandi”. In the research the Author also highlighted the relative constituent elements of the scope, i.e. the specific features of the motorway concession regime compared to the ordinary one, the growing presence of an independent governance, as well as the peculiar modalities of tariff determination through the price cap parameter, revealing that the main interventions of Italian Legislator were inspired by the contingent needs and not by the pursuit of an organic design. Dissertation thesis also analysed the role of Transport Regulation Authority (ART), whose main mission is economic regulation in the field of transport and access to related infrastructures and services. Further, ART is competent for defining the quality levels of transport services and the minimum content of the rights that may be claimed by users against infrastructure managers. The Authority is an indipendent administrative authoriy and operates in full autonomy, in accordance with EU legislation and in compliance with the subsidiarity principle.

Abstract:
Location-based services (LBS) are services that answer queries based on the locations with which the queries are associate; normally the locations where the queries are issued. With a variety of promising applications, such as local information access (e.g., traffic reports, news, and navigation maps) and nearest neighbor queries (e.g., finding the nearest restaurants) (Barbara, 1999; Ren & Dunham, 2000; D. L. Lee, Lee, Xu, & Zheng, 2002; W. C. Lee, Xu, & Zheng, 2004), LBS is emerging as an integral part of daily life. The greatest potential of LBS is met in a mobile computing environment, where users enjoy unrestricted mobility and ubiquitous information access. For example, a traveler could issue a query like “Find the nearest hotel with a room rate below $100” from a wireless portable device in the middle of a journey. To answer such a query, however, three major challenges have to be overcome: • Constrained Mobile Environments: Users in a mobile environment suffer from various constraints, such as scarce bandwidth, lowquality communication, frequent network disconnections, and limited local resources. These constraints pose a great challenge for the provision of LBS to mobile users. • Spatial Data: In LBS, the answers to a query associated with different locations may be different. That is, query results are dependent on spatial properties of queries. For a query bound with a certain query location, the query result should be relevant to the query as well as valid for the bound location. This requirement adds additional complexity to traditional data management techniques such as data placement, indexing, and query processing (D. L. Lee, 2002). • User Movement: The fact that a mobile user may change its location makes some tasks in LBS, such as query scheduling and cache management, particularly tough. For example, suppose that a mobile user issues a query “Find the nearest restaurant” at location A. If the query is not scheduled timely enough on the server, the user has moved to location B when he or she gets the answer R. However, R is no longer the nearest restaurant at location B. Caching has been a commonly used technique for improving data access performance in a mobile computing environment (Acharya, Alonso, Franklin, & Zdonik, 1995). There are several advantages for caching data on mobile clients: • It improves data access latency since a portion of queries, if not all, can be satisfied locally. • It helps save energy since wireless communication is required only for cache-miss queries. • It reduces contention on the narrow-bandwidth wireless channel and off-loads workload from the server; as such, the system throughput is improved. • It improves data availability in circumstances where clients are disconnected or weakly connected because cached data can be used to answer queries. However, as discussed above, the constrains of mobile computing environments, the spatial property of location-dependent data, and the mobility of mobile users have opened up many new research problems in client caching for LBS. This chapter discusses the research issues arising from caching of location-dependent data in a mobile environment and briefly describes several state-of-the-art solutions.

Abstract:
All these elements configure an urban nucleus that, due to its urban, architectural and landscape qualities, gives rise to one of the main tourist attractions of the region. However, the area described nowadays presents an important problem related to the use and habitability of public space, which is invaded by the presence of the private vehicle, even along the seaside, due to its touristic relevance. This article presents the results of an academic experience developed to study different possibilities of urban transformations for the municipality of Altea, taking as a project site the urban vacuum still conserved between the two situations previously described: the historical areas on the coastal elevations (Dalt) and new urban developments parallel to the seaside (Baix). This academic activity, performed by nearly 50 students from the University of Alicante, was developed in the context of the design course Urbanism 5 during the academic year 2015-16, thanks to the agreement signed between the Municipality of Altea and the University of Alicante. Abstract:
In this study, two-dimensional laminar simulation (2-D Lam), two-dimensional Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes simulation with the Spalart-Allmaras turbulence model (2-D RANS(SA)), and implicit three-dimensional large-eddy simulation (3-D LES) are performed for NACA0012, NACA0006, and Ishii airfoils at Rec = 3.0 × 104. The relation between a predictability of airfoil aerodynamic characteristics and a dependence of airfoil geometry shape of each numerical method is evaluated at the low Reynolds number. Although little discrepancy is observed for the lift coefficient predictability, significant differences are presented in terms of the separation and reattachment points predictability depending on the numerical methods. The 2-D Lam simulation can predict the lift coefficients as well as the separation and reattachment points qualitatively as similar to the 3-D LES results except for the high angle of attack which is accompanied by the massive separation. The 2-D RANS(SA), the weak nonlinearity and stall phenomena for the lift coefficients are observed. A good predictability of the separation point are shown, however, it cannot be estimated the reattachment points due to the trend to predict widely for the separation region. The predictabilities of each numerical method appear regardless of the airfoil shapes.

Abstract:
Verification of numerical results with experimental data is an important aspect of any in silico study. In the case of the upper respiratory system, the air flow is often turbulent, which highlights the importance of validating an accurate turbulence model for numerical simulations. Patient specific CT based upper airway models were used for computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analyses of the upper respiratory system and the results were compared with the corresponding experimental results. Detailed CFD simulations were conducted using the STAR-CCM+ software to investigate the most appropriate numerical approach in accurately predicting flow characteristics in the upper respiratory system. Large Eddy Simulations (LES) and Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations with k-ε, and k-ω turbulence models were investigated. The experiments include simulating inspiratory-expiratory flow with particle injection at the intake. A stereolithographic (SL) system (3-D system Projet 6000HD), with a resolution of 0.001–0.002 inches per inch of part and VisiJet SL Clear material, was used for fabricating the experimental model. The outlet of the model was connected to a manifold, with subsequent connection to a piston-cylinder system where a computer-controlled motor was used to simulate the normal breathing flow conditions. Investigations of flow characteristics within the upper airway were performed with a 2-D µPIV system from Intelligent Laser Applications (ILA for micro particle image velocimetry) which includes a high power green LED light source with an effective area of 100×100 mm, and a pulsing system (LPS controller). Matlab software was used for the post processing of PIV images. The LES results displayed more detailed transient flow characteristics than the RANS results for both turbulence models. At the early time steps, the numerical results of the average velocity from all three methods were nearly identical. However, further downstream, where obstructions and strong velocity gradients exist, results differ with a larger velocity gradient near the wall for the LES simulation. Comparing the numerical and experimental results, due to seeding limitations, the experimental results did not display detailed low speed flow characteristics and thus, the shear stress and turbulence quantities were less than the corresponding CFD results. Further experiments are currently in progress to improve the experimental results and to better assess the transient numerical and experimental results.

Abstract:
Three-dimensional Large Eddy Simulations (LES) with Smagorinsky subgrid scale model have been performed for the flow past two free-spanning marine pipelines in tandem placed in the vicinity of a plane wall at a very small gap ratio, namely G/D = 0.1, 0.3 and 0.5. The ratio of cylinder center-to-center distance to cylinder diameter, or pitch ratio, L/D, considered in the simulations is taken as L/D = 2 and 5. This work serves as an extension of Abrahamsen Prsic et al. (2015) [1]. In essence, six sets of simulations have been performed in the subcritical Reynolds number regime at Re = 1.31 × 104. Our major findings can be summarized as follows. (1) At both pitch ratios, the wall proximity has a decreasing effect on the mean drag coefficient of the upstream cylinder. At L/D = 2, the mean drag coefficient of the downstream cylinder is negative since it is located within the drag inversion separation distance. (2) At L/D = 2, a squarish cavity-like flow exists between the tandem cylinders and flow circulates within the cavity. A long lee-wake recirculation zone is found behind the downstream cylinder at G/D = 0.1. However, a much smaller lee-wake recirculation zone is noticed at L/D = 5 with G/D = 0.1. (3) At L/D = 2, the reattachment is biased to the bottom shear layer due towards the deflection from the plane wall, which leads to the formation of the slanted squarish cavity-like flow where the flow circulates between the tandem cylinders.

It has exceptional landscape conditions, highly productive lands, and a large percentage of the water reserve that supplies the region and the country, giving the territory an economic center character since the colony. These physical values make part of collective imagination as a recreation area and an opportunity for development in the 1960s, according to the construction of large national infrastructure works. At the same time, it was object of armed conflict in the 1980s and 1990s, and more recently, directly related to the spatial dynamics of the region: unplanned urban expansion, changes in land use and vegetation cover, with effects on the cultural landscape. In a post-conflict situation, the economic strategies of different actors trust on tourism as a social-spatial management strategy to improve the territory. However, the identity of rurality shows spatial imbalances without recognizing elements of historical construction whose legacies must be revealed to ensure equitable development. To do this, we propose an approach from the cultural landscape in a revision of the historical, symbolic and relational transformation through five systems (anthropic, productive, political, symbolic and spatial), analyzing competitiveness, tourism, landscape and social management, in different scales and during three historical moments. Abstract:
Finite-rate chemical effects at gas turbine conditions lead to incomplete combustion and well-known emissions issues. Although a thin flame front is preserved on an average, the instantaneous flame location can vary in thickness and location due to heat losses or imperfect mixing. Post-flame phenomena (slow CO oxidation or thermal NO production) can be expected to be significantly influenced by turbulent eddy structures. Since typical gas turbine combustor calculations require insight into flame stabilization as well as pollutant formation, combustion models are required to be sensitive to the instantaneous and local flow conditions. Unfortunately, few models that adequately describe turbulence-chemistry interactions are tractable in the industrial context. A widely used model capable of employing finite-rate chemistry, is the Eddy Dissipation Concept (EDC) model of Magnussen. Its application in large eddy simulations (LES) is problematic mainly due to a strong sensitivity to the model constants which were based on an isotropic cascade analysis in the RANS context. The objectives of this paper are: (i) To formulate the EDC cascade idea in the context of LES; and (ii) To validate the model using experimental data consisting of velocity (PIV measurements) and major species (1-D Raman measurements), at four axial locations in the near-burner region of a Siemens SGT-100 industrial gas turbine combustor.

Abstract:
Large eddy simulations (LES) were performed to investigate film cooling of a flat plate, where the cooling jets issued from a plenum through one row of circular holes of diameter D and length 4.7D that are inclined at 35° relative to the plate. The focus is on understanding the turbulent structure of the film-cooling jet and the film-cooling effectiveness. Parameters studied include blowing ratio (BR = 0.5 and 1.0) and density ratio (DR = 1.1 and 1.6). Also, two different boundary layers (BL) upstream of the film-cooling hole were investigated — one in which a laminar BL was tripped to become turbulent from near the leading edge of the flat plate, and another in which a mean turbulent BL is prescribed directly. The wall-resolved LES solutions generated were validated by comparing its time-averaged values with data from PIV and thermal measurements. Results obtained show that having an upstream BL that does not have turbulent fluctuations enhances the cooling effectiveness significantly at low velocity ratios (VR) when compared to an upstream BL that resolved the turbulent fluctuations. However, these differences diminish at higher VRs. Instantaneous flow reveals a bifurcation in the jet vorticity as it exits the hole at low VRs, one branch forming the shear-layer vortex, while the other forms the counter-rotating vortex pair. At higher VRs, the shear layer vorticity is found to reverse direction, changing the nature of the turbulence and the heat transfer. Results obtained also show the strength and structure of the turbulence in the film-cooling jet to be strongly correlated to VR.

Abstract:
Abstract The productive life of a well can be affected by deterioration of the well integrity which can be due to casing/tubing corrosion, casing damage during drilling/ work over, packer failure, plug failures, cement integrity issues etc. Remedial measures can be executed if the nature of problem is diagnosed. One can receive early warning of a potential problem and obtain data for determining a specific restoration program by running well integrity diagnostic tools. There are various well integrity tools available to cater evaluation needs at present times with different working principles and targeting different well integrity problems such as casing/tubing and cement integrity. However, in challenging situation and complex environments, the tools may not provide complete diagnostics. Production logging can be an effective tool in such scenarios by mapping the flow behaviour in the wellbore and can provide a better idea of the wellbore problems. The well "A" is a development well which was drilled (max angle~ 27º) and completed in the interval X345-X349m and X362-X368m to exploit gas from the reservoir ABC. During initial testing it produced @ 1, 67,000 m3/d with FTHP of 2348psi. Later after acid job rate increased to 2,20,000 m3/d but later well had frequent water loading problem and required frequent activation / stimulation. The well has good reservoir zones as identified on the OH logs, hence, to diagnose the reason for water production, PLT was planned in the well in 2015. The well was producing 1,00,000 m3/d of gas at an FTHP of 1181psi during that time. Annulus pressure build-up was also observed in the well suggesting integrity issue with packer/tubing. During the PL run, it was observed that the packer has fallen and settled across one the perforation and the flow was observed to be ongoing from inside as well as outside the packer element making the flow interpretation tricky. A proper interpretation was carried out taking into consideration all available data and water entry point was confirmed. Based on the results, a well intervention was carried out and after the job, well started producing 1,50,000 m3/d of gas with 0% water cut whereas before it was producing 1,00,000 m3/d of gas with 1900 BPD of water. Thus, the intervention resulted in production enhancement by 50% and reduction in water cut by 100%. This paper highlights the proper analysis of the recorded data for diagnosis of the flow condition in an adverse and complex scenario and finding out the water entry point for a proper remediation of the well integrity and production issue.

Abstract:
The Europe 2020 strategy identifies drop out from i-VET or early school leaving (ESL) as a key challenge to meeting employment targets. The Code RED project (http://www.codered-project.eu) has been developed in response to the high levels of early school leaving, drop-out and exclusion from education that often lead to unemployment, poverty and social deprivation. In taking actions towards achieving its goals, the project has been experimenting with a (serious) games' co-design methodology [1] through a dedicated co-design workshops' series, run within 2014 in the UK, Greece, Italy and Cyprus. The objective of the workshops was to engage young people in an interactive (participatory) process of designing and implementing digital educational games' prototypes, aiming at paving the way towards adopting these paradigms in the education and skills' acquisition process, thus maximising the benefit of participants. During the four organised workshops, around 30 young students and 10 trainers (including researchers and facilitators) walked through the pre-defined co-design process, trying to maintain the facilitation at the level 6 of the Hart's ladder [2]. Participants had the opportunity to work as a team, exchange experiences, share roles and responsibilities in the team, see examples of digital (educational) games/products developed by others so as to establish expectations, learn how to deconstruct the rules of games, create and discuss their own game ideas using low-tech prototyping tools (e.g. LEGO models, pack of playing cards, paper, digital means of taking notes, etc.), and finally implement prototypes of their game ideas, using game authoring software such as "Stencyl" (http://www.stencyl.com) and ARIS (https://arisgames.org/). The experimenting offered the opportunity to researchers to collect some very interesting observations, analyse them across the four involved countries and extract useful knowledge towards expanding already available education and employability curriculums from previous projects (e.g. the GOET project, http://goet-project.eu/). Abstract:
