The drumbeats which punctuated Zurich Dada performances signal and enact the dismantling of the complexities of a culture the participants deemed wholly discredited. While the Futurists looked to technology for rhythmic renewal, Dadaists sought a deeper, more indefinable rhythm to nourish a far-reaching renaissance of human values. Study of ‘nonsensical’ texts by Huelsenbeck, Ball and Tzara reveals some traditional metrical elements. However, in Dadaist performance pieces in an imaginary hybrid language or in a ‘simultaneous poem’ in three languages at once, such elements are freed from traditional associations and become multiple, complex and ambiguous in performance and reception.

This essay considers the case of some modern and contemporary bilingual and multilingual poets who have used translation creatively in the context of French literature. Far from attempting to erase the traces of the source language to make it more acceptable to a readership in the target language, these poets – from Hugo Ball, Jean Arp and Henri Michaux to Ryoko Sekiguchi, Caroline Bergvall and Anne Tardos – accept and even welcome the ‘radical artifice’ of their poetry and embrace the inherent foreignness of the word, even in the mother tongue. In myriad ways, their work explores language as a place of difference rather than equivalence, and as a site of slippage in which words are forever susceptible to bordering on other words and other languages, real or invented.

Abstract:
Just as somatic expressions, phraseological compounds are rich in the lexical structure of the Azerbaijani language, their history is also ancient. This is due to both the ethnic outlook of the people and the language's ability to fully incorporate creative thinking. A lot of research has been done on the formation of phraseological compounds in Azerbaijani linguistics, some notes have been made about the sources of phraseological compounds. During our research, we came across the opinions of linguists based on their observations on monuments such as Orkhon-Yenisey, Kitabi-Dada Gorgud, Divani-dictionary-it-Turk. According to their research, in ancient times the number of phraseological combinations becomes less than in our modern language. Some of the phraseological combinations, especially those formed on the basis of key words belonging to the Turkic languages (ie, the noun in the formation of the phraseological unit) have a more ancient history. Based on written monuments, we can say that the vast majority of the phraseological fund belonging to the historical antiquities consists of phraseological combinations, somatic expressions formed by the names of body parts. The language of folklore materials, like monuments such as Orkhon-Yenisey, Kitabi-Dada Gorgud, Divani-lughat-it-turk, is a very rich source for the study of phraseological combinations, including somatic expressions. This includes phraseological materials in the language of bayats, riddles, proverbs and parables, tales and epics that preserve ancient traces.

Abstract Dongba and Daba chants represent two of the few oral traditions still surviving in the world. In both traditions, the main category of formulaic expressions consists of traditional noun-epithets describing spirits. Dongba and Daba spirits can be classified into five categories, of which the noun-epithets used to describe them share similar features. Another significant percentage of noun-epithets portray figures of animals. Dongba and Daba chants are both chanted in odd-numbered metric patterns in which noun-epithets are adapted to the metric context. Besides the core expression (often a tetra-syllabic compound), several monosyllabic words not affecting the core meaning may be inserted as optional morphemes to modify the number of syllables in the noun-epithet. This study provides a systematic philological analysis of the vast repertoire of Daba and Dongba noun-epithets. Comparative mythology and comparative linguistics combine to present a comprehensive description of the stylistic features of Daba and Dongba noun-epithets.

Each instance of language comparison requires observations on semantic equivalence. Meaning is by far the most popular tertium comparationis in contrastive and typological research. However, the question of how semantic equivalence is to be determined remains extremely difficult to solve. This paper presents an approach to detect semantic relatedness between a limited range of lexical items from different languages on the basis of monolingual data. Applying distributional similarity (Dagan et al. 1999) cross-linguistically, it identifies semantically related verbs governing embedded interrogatives by looking at the frequency of the question words (i.e. wh-items) that are used in the embedded interrogatives in monolingual corpora. Convincing results are obtained for six different language pairs: English-French, English-Dutch, English-Spanish, French-Dutch, French-Spanish and Dutch-Spanish.

Despite its brief history, Berlin Dada (1918–20) produced a glut of chronicles and memoirs, as if to immortalize its ephemeral insurgency. Its self-appointed chronicler, Richard Huelsenbeck, tried to harness this compulsion to memorialize in the service of Dadaist agitation he hoped would unleash a revolutionary time and redeem the failure of the communist uprisings at the end of World War I. his seditious temporality was based on two incompatible concepts of revolution: a properly political notion aimed at overthrowing an unjust regime and a vitalist discourse aimed at tapping into the circular low of life. he clash of the two modes of revolutionary time is enacted in Hannah Höch's photomontage “Cut with the Kitchen Knife” (1919). he spectral temporality that sustains both is conjured by the Dada Almanac (1920), a literary compendium that doubles as a quirky inquiry into political normativity and an inluential paradigm of Dada's self-legitimation.

Since ancient times celestial thunder gods have been a familiar feature in mythologies throughout the Indo-European language area. Their Irish counterpart, the Dagda, is a major personage at the centre of the Mythological Cycle, and his possible connections to the Scandinavian god Thor are examined here. Following a brief section dealing with questions of methodology, points of comparison are addressed which include the two gods’ common primary role as defenders of their realm; their place in the assembly of gods; their principal weapons and implements (iron club/hammer/harp, cauldron); their associations with cosmology and artisans; and their visits to the abode of their monstrous adversaries, incorporating elements of the burlesque. Both gods appear in versions of the international tale ATU 1148B ‘The Thunder Instrument’ (Thor in the Old Norse poem Þrymskviða, and the Dagda’s recovery of his harp from the Irish Mythological Cycle), and the nature of the parallels between the two versions is examined. The question of a borrowing during the Viking era, or of an inherited body of tradition possibly from Indo-European times, is discussed: the international tale type also leads to the myth, at a further temporal and geographical remove, of the Greek god Zeus and the theft of his thunderbolts. A proposed sequential account of the development and evolution of both gods from remote antiquity is provided.

This research analyzes Spanish- and English-language news discourses in the United States following the announcement of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. It identifies how sources quoted by journalists affected framing of stories in five ethnic and general market newspapers. Coverage of Dreamers and DACA was generally positive, especially compared to common representations of undocumented immigrants as criminals and as a threat to the United States. Certain sources were a strong predictor for some frames about DACA, and undocumented people who arrived in the United States when they were children could be analyzed in communication research as a different category of immigrants than other adults.

In it she discusses formality and politeness in general, as well as the extent and the ways they are executed in a Japanese and Slovene conversation. "Interpretation of Daba Script: Gemu from Wujiao Villag" written by XU Duoduo is a result of a fieldwork research on the Daba script found in the Daba Calendar entitled Gemu, which origins in Wūjiǎo village, the province of Sichuan. Nina GOLOB conducted a bidirectional perception experiment entitled "L1 Prosodic Interference: the Case of Slovene Students of Japanese", in which she evaluates L1 prosodic interference in recognizing (lexical) accent place in declaratives and interrogatives.An interesting project report on the successful implementation of the e-learning system for Japanese, Korean, Hindi and Sanskirt comes from Croatia. Written by Sara LIBRENJAK, Kristina KOCIJAN, and Marijana JANJIĆ it is entitled "Improving Students' Language Performance Through Consistent Use of E-Learning: An Empirical Study in Japanese, Korean, Hindi and Sanskrit". This case study focused on the impact to DACA participants in a mid-western city enrolled at an urban school setting in a region where 30% of all residing immigrants are unauthorized (Capps & Ruiz Soto, 2016). The investigation aimed to understand if the language used during the 2016 election cycle altered trauma-related behaviors in the DACA population. The data collected during the study suggested that students who identified with the DACA group exhibited trauma-related behaviors different from behaviors previously observed, and the new behaviors were a result of election cycle rhetoric. Implications for counselor training were significant.

This article reports on a qualitative research study that explored the lived experience of seven Latinx DACA recipients. Using narrative inquiry, the study tests the Undocumented Adult Identity Development Model (Robles, 2015), a five-stage identity development model of undocumented Latinx youth. The study gives voice to the hopes, dreams, and challenges these young adults face. Findings revealed that participants demonstrated a high degree of resiliency. Ultimately, participants were able to fashion their struggles into a transformative experience that gave them hope and a positive vison for their future. Success in school and in their career was a means of protesting against the limitations placed upon them. Meaning and purpose was achieved through creating community and by taking ownership of their immigration status, through fighting for their rights and for the rights of other immigrants.

Some of the greatest Marxist historical accounts of revolutionary events are the accounts of great failures. One needs only mention the German Peasants' War, the Jacobins in the French Revolution, the Paris Commune, the October Revolution, the Chinese Cultural Revolution while numerous others lurk behind many of the battles of the proletariat throughout the twentieth century. In the most radical political engagement, such as the Cultural Revolution for Badiou, or the Nazi Revolution for Heidegger, failure also signals the end of the traditional mode of political engagement as such. But what is failure precisely? And what our confrontation with such failures really means for revolutionary politics and anarchist artistic movements of the early twentieth century such as Dada Berlin? The aim of this articleis thus toexamine failure's capacity to act as a mode of (political) resistance firmly rooted in revolutionary politics and radical anarchist cultural projects. As I argue, failure's radical properties are found in acts of ‘determinate negation'which exhibit a profound anti-conformist ideology that aims to shatter conventional standards of hegemonic value and seek to reshape and loosen the boundaries that determine lived experience in a socio-political and artistic level. To follow through this hypothesis, I explore the embodied activity of the ‘agonal’ embedded in the manifesto in relation to the failed revolution of SpartacusUprise in Berlin of 1919 and the aesthetic attitude of ‘anti-manifestation'exhibited by the deeply politicised, andintimately aliened to the Spartacus agitational project, cultural movement of Dada Berlin. In this context, failure, I argue, is appropriated into a function of doing of the ‘negative’ –anegative poiesis, whose violent tension,already embedded in the performativity of the genre of the manifesto that seeks to subject to the real the foundational force of a future to come,marks artistic praxis onto the political moment with such a creative vigour as if in violently seeking the arrival of the new world and its making.And by looking at Badiou's theories on the four modes of subjectivities, Zizek's reflections on the formation of Badiou's Event, in relation of Heidegger's ontological violence found in the essencing ability of language and of Luxemburg's political philosophy, failure reveals a truly ‘miraculous’ proposition that is other than acceptance of defeat but the call for fidelity, ‘the work of love,’ which resides at the heart of every such violating failure.

Abstract:
We conducted a study to assess the factors that affect language development in infants and toddlers using data obtained during developmental screening. Our study group consisted of 505 children–-244 (48.3%) boys and 261 (51.7%) girls, aged 5 to 27 months. The children were divided into four age groups: group 1, which we designated as the “6 months” group (age range: 5 to 7 mo); group 2, designated as the “12 months” group (11 to 13 mo); group 3, designated as the “18 months” group (17 to 19 mo); and group 4, designated as the “24 months” group (23 to 27 mo). In addition to demographic data, we compiled data using the Denver II Developmental Screening Test, as well as neurologic examination findings and medical histories. At 6 months, the social item “Works for toy out of reach” was positively related to all language development items. Two gross motor development items–-“Pull to sit, no head lag” and “Lifs chest with arm support”–-were related to the “Turns to sound” and “Turns to voice” items, respectively. Overall, children whose mothers had higher education levels and who were living in higher socioeconomic areas showed significantly greater language development, as did boys, specifically. At 12 months, higher maternal ages, some gross motor development items, and some social items were related to better language development, and children living in higher socioeconomic areas had a significantly increased ability to pass the “4 words other than mama/dada” item. At 18 months, the ability of girls to pass the “4 words other than mama/dada” item increased, and children who passed the “4 words other than mama/dada” item did not pass the “Throws ball” gross motor item. At 24 months, children whose mothers were older had better “Combines 2 words” and “Speech half intelligible” items, girls had better “Comprehends prepositions (such as under/above)” skills, and boys had better “Shows 4 parts of doll” skills. We conclude that language items appear to change together with gross motor items and social development, and that they can be influenced by a family's socioeconomic level. However, as children get older, language development diverges from gross motor development.

The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) executive order intended to protect undocumented youth from deportation and mitigate the negative impact of their undocumented status. Using qualitative methods, eight DACA recipients were interviewed. Participants were primarily females, ranged in age from 19 and 27 years old, and had immigrated from Mexico. Our findings revealed that as participants grew up, they experienced a sense of liminality, or “non-belonging”; however, upon receiving DACA status, these feelings of liminality were temporarily abated. Problematically, as our participants encountered the limitations of DACA, their feelings of liminality returned. While DACA increases access to education, health care, and legal system participation, it only temporarily mitigates the impact of having an undocumented status. The ramifications of the sense of liminality that occur with being undocumented is discussed and policy reforms in areas of federal and state educational policy and immigration policy are suggested.

El presente trabajo de investigación tiene como objetivo explorar la naturaleza del proceso de la traducción dada por el servicio de traducción de Google, analizando los problemas más destacados que surjan a la hora de traducir, ya que el traductorque usa el Google es, de ninguna manera, un traductor profesional, y por lo tanto, puede llegar a una traducción totalmente catastrófica. Abstract There are numbers of automatic translation services that internet users can choose to automatically translate a certain text, and Google translate is one of these automatic services that proposes over 51 Languages. The present paper sheds light on the nature of the translation process offered by Google, and analyze the most prominent problems faced when Google translate is used. Direct translation is common with Google Translate and often results in nonsensical literal translations, particularly with long compound sentences. This is due to the fact that Google translation system uses a method based on language pair frequency that does not take into account grammatical rules which, in turn, affects the quality of the translation. The complexity of the text, as well as any context which cannot be interpreted without a true knowledge of the language, makes the likelihood of errors greater. Professional translators take great pains to ensure that this does not happen by using well-established online glossaries, back translation methods, proof readers and reviewers. The present paper discusses the Google translate of advertisements, Al-Qur’an holy texts as well as literary texts out of Arabic into Spanish stressing the pros and cons of Google translate that not only impact professional translators in the language service industry but also take the interest of the language experts.

En este trabajo se propone un Objeto de Aprendizaje de apoyo para aprender el lenguaje de programación JavaScript. Dada la importancia de desarrollar herramientas de aprendizaje acordes al estilo de aprendizaje de los discentes, se realizó una encuesta, basada en la teoría de David Kolb, a estudiantes de la Facultad de Ciencias de la Computación de la Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla para obtener los estilos de aprendizaje predominantes y junto con la metodología ADDIE se desarrolla el Objeto de Aprendizaje propuesto. JavaScript is one of the programming languages of daily use for the construction of Web sites. For this, there are different types of digital documents that help to learn the language, which do not take into account the learning style of the students, nor do they use a techno-instructional design model. In this work we propose a Learning Object of support to learn the JavaScript programming language. Given the importance of developing learning tools according to the learning style of the students, a survey was conducted, based on David Kolb's theory, to students of the Faculty of Computer Science of the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla to obtain the predominant learning styles and together with the ADDIE methodology, the proposed Learning Object is developed.

This study investigates the educational and economic attainment of Mexican Dreamers over the 4 years since DACA was implemented (2012–2016). A time-space stream of benefits and barriers is evaluated at the national, state, and individual levels. Based on assumptions linking the DACA-eligible to DACA recipients, I examine the annual American Community Survey (ACS) to glean insights not provided elsewhere. At national level, the results suggest that young Mexican Dreamers entered the workforce at higher rates, but college at lower rates, than a control group of Mexican Americans. At state level, in supportive states these Dreamers entered college at higher rates but the work force at slightly lower rates, than they did in restrictive states. At the individual level, it is revealed that DACA strongly promoted college over work for women, but just the reverse for men. These distinctions are bringing about new inequalities within the Mexican Dreamer community in the United States.

The aim of the ill-fated 1922 Congress of Paris, an international conference organized by André Breton, was to diagnose the sources of the “modern spirit.” Although the congress had ambitious international goals, it was brought down by a remark with xenophobic connotations. Largely remembered today as the death knell of Paris Dada—the public fight between Tristan Tzara and Breton meant not only that the congress never took place but also that Paris Dada was dissolved—the congress's failure stemmed from the tensions involved in selfconsciously deining modernism. Arguing that ambivalence over the concept shaped the main participants' understanding of the congress, I read the congress as a concrete manifestation of the impulse to federate the arts in post-World War I France.

The subject matter of this paper is Chronofl eks, a computer system (http:// chronofl eks.nlp.ipipan.waw.pl/) modelling Polish infl ection based on a corpus material. The system visualises changes of infl ectional paradigms of individual lexemes over time and enables examination of the variability of the frequency of infl ected form groups distinguished based on various criteria. Feeding Chronofl eks with corpus data required development of IT tools to ensure an infl ectional processing sequence of texts analogous to the ones used for modern language; they comprise a transcriber, a morphological analyser, and a tagger. The work was performed on data from three historical periods (1601–1772, 1830–1918, and modern ones) elaborated in independent projects. Therefore, fi nding a common manner of describing data from the individual periods was a signifi cant element of the work. A partir de um dos princípios da Teoria Histórico-Cultural de Vygotsky (1988), este estudo objetivou traçar o desenvolvimento de uma professora iniciante, enquanto mediada por outro mais experiente. A questão norteadora da pesquisa foi entender como as sessões de mediação impactaram o desenvolvimento da professora quanto ao conceito de ‘contextualização’. Métodos de pesquisa qualitativa foram utilizados para analisar os dados, que foram coletados por meio de observação de aulas e sessões de mediação, ambas filmadas. Os resultados evidenciam a importância da mediação intencional e direcionada do formador no desenvolvimento da professora participante.

AbstractMetaphor becomes a marker of language in Malay society. Metaphors are usually used to praise, insinuate, ask for, and express something. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct an analysis study of the metaphor of the word fruit in Mempura Malay language as physical parts and space of human body to reveal the meanings. The purpose of this research is to find out the metaphorical forms and meanings of the word fruit as the physical parts and space of human body in Mempura Malay language. This qualitative and descriptive research was conducted through a cognitive semantic perspective. The data of this research were collected from the utterances of the Mempura Malay community which mostly used metaphorical expressions. The techniques of data collection were by means of interviewing, evoking, listening and conversation, and recording. The data were analyzed by means of descriptive method. The result of the study shows that there are several metaphors for the word fruit as the physical parts and space of human body in Mempura Malay language to express something such as ‘buah hati’, ‘buah jakun’, ‘buah betis’, ‘buah dada’, and ‘buah cinta’. AbstrakMetafora menjadi penanda bahasa dalam masyarakat Melayu. Metafora biasanya digunakan untuk memuji, menyindir, meminta, dan menyatakan sesuatu. Hal ini mendorong dilakukan analisis metafora kata buah bagian fisik dan ruang manusia untuk mengetahui makna ungkapan yang terdapat dalam bahasa Melayu Mempura. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah menemukan bentuk dan makna metafora kata buah bagian fisik dan ruang manusia dalam bahasa Melayu Mempura. Metode yang digunakan ialah metode penelitian deskriptif kualitatif melalui perspektif semantik kognitif. Data penelitian ini diambil dari tuturan masyarakat Melayu Mempura yang banyak menggunakan ungkapan metafora. Teknik yang digunakan dalam mengumpulkan data adalah teknik wawancara yang dibantu dengan teknik pancing, dan simak cakap yang disertai dengan teknik rekam. Teknik analisis data dilakukan menggunakan metode deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat metafora kata buah bagian fisik dan ruang manusia dalam bahasa Melayu Mempura untuk menyatakan sesuatu, misalnya, buah hati, buah jakun, buah betis, buah dada, buah cinta, dan lain sebagainya.

The result of the blood chemistry tests is usually presented in the form of a table written in abbreviations, numbers, and units. Unfortunately, the young doctors often require the time and experience for interpreting the blood chemistry tests into a textual representation, which is easy to read and understand. Therefore, this research aimed at developing a system (BTISys) that can generate the textual representation in the Indonesian language automatically based on the blood chemistry test. BTISys generates the representation using Natural Language Generation (NLG) approach based on the r-template method. The reliability of BTISys is measured by considering the naturalness of generated textual representation. The naturalness can be observed by three criteria, such as readability, clarity, and general appropriateness. The reliability of BTISys is quite good to generate the textual representation automatically. It can be seen from the readability, clarity, and general appropriateness, which reach 73 %, 70 %, and 60 % respectively, that implies the naturalness of generated textual representation.

Abstract:
As análises lingüísticas têm exibido, majoritariamente, desde o estruturalismo, uma inclinação por modelos de produção. Pouca atenção tem sido dada à percepção. Além disso, a variação lingüística não tem sido a preocupação maior dos modelos teóricos propostos. Na verdade, ela tem sido excluída da maioria deles. Recentemente a teoria fonológica vem se ocupando da variação lingüística, mas, novamente, pendendo pela produção (na maioria das vezes) ou pela percepção. O que se pretende, aqui, é oferecer um esboço de modelo teórico que seja capaz, a partir da junção da produção com a percepção, de lidar com os fatos da variação. O modelo, operacionalizável em termos dos mecanismos da Teoria da Otimalidade, pretende, com base em princípios mais gerais da língua, alocar a variação num nível abstrato (percepção) e deixar a sua implementação (produção), no uso, sensível ao par {indivíduo-item lexical}.PALAVRAS-CHAVE: Teoria Fonológica. OT.ABSTRACTLinguistic analyses have shown, beginning with the structuralist school, a major tendency towards production models, with little attention to perception. Besides this, linguistic variation has not been one of the main subjects of these theoretical models; in fact it has been excluded from most of them. It is only recently that phonological theory has turned its attention to linguistic variation but, again, either to production, most of the time, or to perception, in a few cases. It is our goal here to draw an outline of a theoretical model which is capable to deal with the facts of variation from the standpoint of production and perception. This model, which can be formalized in terms of the OT apparatus, and on the basis of general principles of the language, intends to allocate variation to an abstract level (perception) and let its implementation (production), in language use, sensitive to the pair {individual-lexical item}. O trabalho interroga a interpretação dada por Genet da arte de Giacometti, em função da capacidade de estetização do mundo que o primeiro atribui ao segundo. Transfigurando a nudez, a solidão, em condição "gloriosa", o pintor-escultor consegue evidenciar a singularidade de cada ser e de cada objeto. Faz parte dos horizontes do trabalho ver como essa transfiguração pode atingir a própria imagem do artista, tornado personagem para o crítico.
