Abstract:
The under-representation of Dalits in Nepali-language literature until the late 20th century— both as the subjects of texts and the authors of texts—is very striking, and a category of Nepali-language writing labelled dalit sahitya only began to emerge after 1990. This paper report draws upon research on this issue conducted in 2021-22. First, it introduces a selection of Nepali-language texts produced by non-Dalits in which Dalit characters and Dalit-related issues have been portrayed. Most of these were published before Dalits began to author such texts themselves; a few are of more recent origin. It then offers a preliminary thematic summary of the Dalit-authored literature that has appeared in more recent years, and a summary of the debate that has arisen about the definition of dalit sahitya and the authoritative representation of Dalit issues in Nepali-language literature.

Abstract:
Shyamal Kumar Pramanik, who belongs to Poundra Kshatriya community, is a significant Bengali Dalit poet with a mission of establishing equality and fraternity among the people. His poetry collection The Untouchable & Other Poems, translated by Jaydeep Sarangi and Anurima Chanda into English, demonstrates him as a poet of Dalit consciousness. Without being violent, he raises the Dalit consciousness so that Dalits may come together and unite themselves in order to break the shackles of exploitation and oppression. He wonders how the non-Dalit authors can express the experiences of Dalits. He envisions the fourth world coming out of the darkness. He makes the untouchable Shambok his representative in voicing Dalits who have always been marginalized. He loves nature and makes her his companion and friend for sharing his feelings. He is a poet of hope and future and, so, continues to sing the song of a casteless society despite the feelings of pains, insults and sufferings. His Bengali face reflects the Dalit consciousness in the English mirror, i.e. The Untouchable & Other Poems.

Abstract:
Several powerful constructions of Dalit social and political identity are now circulating in very influential ways within the public sphere in North India, as various groups including both the Bahujan Samaj Party as well as Hindutva organisations compete to assert their influence over how these identities are defined, who they include, and what they mean. In this context, the rise of Hindi Dalit autobiographies as a source of Dalit cultural identity becomes especially important in North India, as they contest traditional conceptions of the Dalit community as ‘untouchables’ and attempt to re-inscribe Dalit identity in positive, self-assertive terms. However, Dalit autobiographies retain certain ambivalences, as the authors struggle to reconcile their low-caste identity with their current urban middle-class status, and more recently, as their claims to represent all members of the Dalit community are challenged by Dalits of the younger generation.

Abstract:
Autobiography is widely admired in the world as a literary genre. Its importance as a means of self-creation, self-examination, and self-regeneration has been identified by critics and creative authors. Autobiography is a Western tradition where people enjoy celebrating them self and are eager to prove their achievements. Indians have adopted this tradition of writing an autobiography from the West. Autobiography can be classified into two categories, life stories that inspire and prove one’s achievements. Secondly, the life stories which not only describes the saga of the individual but also the society as a whole depicts sorrows, subjugation, sufferings, and socioeconomic conditions. Dalit autobiographies belong to the second category. They have portrayed the socio-economic, cultural, and political conditions of Dalit Community under the control and influence of Upper Caste Hindu society. Contemporary Indian Society was divided under the wrong notions of ‘Purity and Pollution’. Dalits were treated as untouchables and polluters to the High Caste Hindus because they were born in the low caste. They were intentionally kept ignorant and denied to take education and asked to live out of town in separate colonies by high caste Hindus to safeguard their control over Dalits. Autobiography came handy to them to demonstrate their age-old suffering, exploitation, and maltreatment. Writers like Shankarrao Kharat, Daya Pawar, Bandu Tupe, P. E. Sonkamble, Shrankumar Limbale, Laxman Mane, Laxman Gaikwad, and Kishor Kale came forward. They penned their experiences in the form of autobiographies. Like male autobiographies, female autobiographers like Baby Kamble, Shantabai Kamble, Urmila Pawar, Kumud Parade, Janabai Girhe, Bama, demonstrated their life stories and experiences of trivial exploitation based on caste, class, and gender.

Abstract:
In Bengali Dalit literature, the Namasudra writers and poets play a crucial role in combating the complete social margsinalization of Dalits, their movements, iconography, experiences, and worldview. According to Manohar Mouli Biswas, “It is a counter cultural movement that has been aiming to undo the age-old caste ridden oppressions against the dalits by representing their lives, deprivations, struggles, histories and promoting their culture and liberation through literature” (Biswas XXV). There have recently been many books written by Dalit Namasudra authors, some of which have been published in English. Using these archives and texts, we may now see the Dalit Namasudras from a different perspective, one that previously would not have been possible through the use of traditional historical archives and writings. Among them mentionable are Manohar Mouli Biswas’s Amar Bhubane Ami Benche Thaki translated as Surviving in My World, Manoranjan Byapari’s Itibritte Chandal Jiban translated as Interrogating My Chandal Life, Dr. Manoranjan Sarkar’s Ekjan Daliter Atmakatha, Jatin Bala’s Sikar Chenra Jiban and so on. This article attempts to rebuild the alternate history of the Namasudras by deconstructing the standard material on the subject using historical and literary analysis.

Abstract:
Dalit life-writings have often been identified as reified spaces of protest against the Brahmanic oppression continuing since centuries in the Indian society. Banished to a space of invisibility, both metaphorical as well as physical margins of the Social Imaginary, Dalits continue to push back boundaries by transforming the ‘marginal’ space into a space of ‘subaltern resistance’. My aim in this paper is to interrogate the methods of collective resistance in the life-writings of Dalit women authors and show how the peripheral spatial geography becomes the central site of resistance. Both Baby Kamble’s The Prisons we Broke (2008), and Bama’s Karukku (1992) belong to entirely different historical periods, and therefore, inevitably differ in their plot-narratives and manner of expression. However, they converge in their emphasis on how the Dalit segregated spaces in their village assume an important role in awakening their collective consciousness first – as members of a community, and second – as women.

Abstract:
Dalit literature seeks to present the struggles and experiences of the oppressed. Bengali Dalit literature has become a powerful tool for social and political action. It provides counter-narratives that talk about their experiences and realities. Bangla Dalit literature depicts the lives of refugees with sensitivity and empathy, emphasizing the struggles and resilience of those displaced from their homes and communities due to political, social and economic factors. The term “refugee” refers to a person who has been forced to flee their country of origin. A large part of the population had to leave their homes and migrate from East Bengal to West Bengal as part of the Partition of Bengal, mainly due to the communal tension. However, most of the refugees who migrated to West Bengal during the Bangladesh Liberation Movement in 1971 were mainly Dalits or other marginalized communities who faced discrimination and oppression in their homeland. Jatin Bala, one of the eminent Dalit writers and one of the refugees, himself reflected the pain and suffering of these Bengali Dalit refugees, on the other hand, Allen Ginsberg, the famous American writer Ginsburg, who visited Bangladesh amid the conflict, he also paints a sad picture of the loss of these Bengali refuges in his long poem “September On Jossor Road”. This study aims to carry out a comparative study of the representations of the two authors about these refugees.

Abstract:
Dalit literature has been influential in the rising awareness for protest or creating literature of social consciousness. The broad domain of Dalit writings includes the depravation and trauma of certain category of people for some socio-cultural, traditional biases. Maybe one of the tenets of it could be the so-called social stratification or formation of social class. Thus, like writings in many languages in India, in Odia, lots of writing account for the evidences and experiences associated with Dalit consciousness. It also envisages feminine perspectives giving the account of the autobiographies and plights and traumatic evidences of Dalit authors underlining the issues of caste, class, and gender in the backdrop of social exclusion. Dalit Literature in Odia has a rich history that can be traced back to the fifteenth century. In Odia literary creations such as Bouddhagāna, and Dohā, Charyāgeetikā, the anecdotes of social discrimination and casteism are noticed. There is potentiality in contemporary Odia poetry in reflecting on various themes of Dalit consciousness. As it is evident, it starts with saint poet Bhimbhoi who is said to be the first Dalit poet of Odishā in the mid-19th century. Along with glorification of humanitarian attributes, he has outlined the plights of the depraved community. The motifs of Ekalavya, Sanatan, Kalia, Ghinua, Jara Shabara; musical instruments such as baja; the untouchables; Sriya Chandaluni in Laxmi Purana; fingertip print are common in reflecting Dalit issues variously. In this context, this paper focuses on the critical dimensions of Dalit poetry in Odia by including some of the well-known authors such as Gopinath Bag, P.K. Mishra, Nilamani Parida, Ashutosh Parida, Jayadrath Suna, Basudev Sunani, Pitambar Tarai, Akhil Nayak, and Hrushikesh Mallik. Such poets have applied the skills varieties of versification to focus comprehensively on the sensitivity of the traumatic issues of oppression; racial discrimination; socio-cultural taboos; loss of indigenous culture; evil effects of urbanization and politics; existential crisis; victimization of the poor and innocents; loss of ecological harmony; nostalgia and effects of displacement.

Abstract:
This article will consider two Hindi-language autobiographies by Dalit women, to explain how we can emphasize the collective, relational, and specifically gendered character of Dalit women’s life writing without simplistically categorizing them as testimonio, “witnessing”. Nor should we over-privilege their gendered specificity, thereby effacing the very real narrative authority, purposefulness, and perspectival control of their authors. Instead, we must be especially attentive to the language of a text and understand how the relationality and collectivity of experience is not accidental or necessarily organic to a woman’s view on her world, but is actively, politically, and consciously constructed in the course of a narrative. Predicated on a reasonable concern over the appropriation of a revolutionary new literary voice, attention to narrative form has been slow in coming to the critical and scholarly analysis of Dalit literature, somewhat paradoxically resulting in the rendering of this literature too as “untouchable”. In exploring what is therefore only a nascent formal criticism of the Dalit autobiographical genre, I believe it is important to express a note of caution against replicating the same kinds of essentializing processes of differentiation (the kind we have seen before in the critical reception of life writing in other cultures and languages) between men’s and women’s Dalit life narratives as ego-driven and individualistic linear progressions to political awakening versus relational, community-based, politically and purposefully diffuse “witnessings”. In this exciting moment in which we have the opportunity to engage with a critically important and rapidly expanding rhetorical movement such as Dalit literature, it is, I believe, a diligent recourse to textual analysis that may yet save us from such facile stereotyping.

Abstract:
Mulk Raj Anand's Untouchable (1935) and Arundhati Roy's The God of Small Things (1997) seek to represent the traumatic sufferings of the scheduled castes in the caste-ridden Indian society. The authors of the novels under study are not from the scheduled-castes the traumatic sufferings of whom they have tried to represent in the novels. When such is the case, the problematic resides in the authenticity of voice in the representation of dalits' traumatic sufferings. The traumatic pain of the downtrodden people the authors enact in the novels evokes the affect of sympathy in the readers. However, the big question in trauma theory is not just the sympathy that the authors evoke in their readers towards the traumatized protagonists but whether the evocation carries the direct voice of the authors and the middle voice. The projection of dalit subjectivity accompanied by the academic vocation also evokes the affect of sympathy, besides the construction of pain in the transaction between language and body. The agency of trauma supports the representation of dalits' trauma only when the authentic voice of the authors accompanies the narrativization of pain. Examined in the light of Dominick LaCapra's notion of the middle-voice and Melissa Gregg's idea of communicating investment, this research has come to the conclusion that Anand's representation of dalits' trauma in Untouchable carries the agency of trauma, which is consistent throughout the novel, whereas; Roy's representation of dalits' trauma remains ambivalent vis-à-vis the consistency of the agency of trauma in the novel The God of Small Things. Therefore, the intensity of the agency of dalits' trauma in Untouchable is more intriguing than in The God of Small Things.

Abstract:
As a reaction against mainstream Indian feminism that tended to ignore the problems of caste, Dalit women and those who advocate their cause have been making a valid case for Dalit feminism. This standpoint acknowledges both the patriarchal oppression from outside the caste as well as within it. Both Baby Kamble and Urmila Pawar have been activists as well as writers, whose autobiographies and creative works are vivid elaborations of the same. Showing how Dalit autobiographies have broken the conventional notions of autobiography coming out of the post-industrial revolution West by locating the individual firmly within the community, Sharmila Rege has pointed out that the Dalit women’s “testimonios” are also their protest against a “communitarian control on the self” (Rege, 2008). Baby Kamble’s autobiography brings out the blatant caste exploitation and violence against women in pre-Ambedkar rural Maharashtra, while Pawar’s begins with the village but focuses more on subtler urban forms of oppression. The latter text reflects on the story of postcolonial India’s development as, even in an urban milieu, caste and gender only change forms of oppression. Both authors’ lives make interesting studies for Dalit gynocritics. Kamble seems to completely submerge the self in the community, living as she does in a feudal patriarchal milieu in the countryside. Writing from a generation later that has felt the impact of urban modernity and feminism, Pawar brings out the self in a bolder way, inviting criticism from established Dalit writers like Sharan Kumar Limbale and others. In a broader sense, both autobiographies are significant as women’s writing and as contemporary Indian literature.

Abstract:
The true identity of the Femme Fatale character type has not yet been discovered despite the growing interest of authors and writers in this lethal woman archetype, whose extensive presence was seen in nineteenth and twentieth century literary and cultural texts. The Femme Fatale has acquired numerous forms since her arrival into the literary arena. Although typically villainous, or at least morally confusing, and always associated with a sense of mystification and unease, Femme Fatales have also appeared as an anti-heroine in some stories. Some narratives also end with a repenting Femme Fatale, who regrets her past villainy. Some Femme Fatales also pave way for greater good by ensnaring the villain and reforming him through her lethal treatments. Dalit viranganas are a group of warrior women characters who are comparatively novel portrayals within the arena of literature. These characters refurbish the entire ideologies governing the conventional patriarchy which often put women under the control of these patriarchal figures. She denies fitting into the roles of a dutiful wife and nurturing mother that the mainstream society prescribes for her. In these representations there is a blending of history and present and these women become symbols of pride for the community. They are often dressed in masculine manner and displays physical prowess, which is a quality often ascribed to men. She leaves behind a strong picture of an unremorseful, bold and daring woman who adheres to her own ideals rejecting the rules put forward by society.

Abstract:
Abstract This piece introduces a symposium on Luis Cabrera’s The Humble Cosmopolitan (Oxford University Press, 2020), which is a comparative political theory text in three senses. First, it expands conventional conversation partners to include authors who are engaged in constructing their nation out of a colonial context, principally, Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar is a scholar, politician, Chairman of the Constitutional Drafting Committee for the newly independent India, and Dalit activist (“Dalit” being the self-applied term for those outside of the Hindu caste hierarchy) and Madhavrao Sadashivrao Golwalkar, the historical thought leader of Hindu nationalism. Second, Cabrera reaches across the colonized-colonizer divide, engaging with intra-nation difference, enabling cross-time comparisons, broadening the moral and political meanings of, contributions to, and criticisms of cosmopolitan thinking. Third, using grounded normative theory, it is methodologically comparative, utilizing the author’s own empirical research through over 150 interviews of activists and politicians from both Indian and European cosmopolitan and anti-cosmopolitan struggles.

Abstract:
The problem of caste in India is supposed to have commenced from the division of the Indian society into Varna system in the ancient times. It led to the marginalization of the people of Shudra Varna to the level of untouchability, discrimination, poverty, subjugation, subordination and exploitation. In the caste system, that was, and is, categorised as the upper caste and the lower caste-- the two fractions that emerged after the Independence of India, many people of the upper caste became so antagonistic into their treatment of the people of lower caste that they designed a system of ‘power’ and ‘control’, both ideological and repressive, in order to exert their hegemony over them and dominate the consciousness of these people for the perpetuation of their privilege, authority and rule. The writings by Dalit authors, in the post-Independence era, have posed a resistance against this ideological and repressive structure of India society that enforces the people of the lower caste to accept their lot of being born to be ruled by the upper caste people. This resistance has been voiced through candour and boldness into the ‘life narratives’ of many Dalit authors. This article seeks to explore these designs and structures of ideological formations of the caste system and its repressive interpellation in the Indian society through the autobiography of Bama, Karukku.

Abstract: Chinua Achebe and Kalyan Rao, the Nigerian and the Telugu Dalit writers, authors of two groundbreaking novels, Things Fall Apart and Untouchable Spring, belong to two different socio-cultural traditions and historical contexts. Both are the products and chroniclers of societies that faced oppression and exploitation as well as literary misrepresentation. The individual identity, humanity and dignity of their people was negated through stereotypical and superficial portrayals in popular imagination and dominant discourses. Both writers seek to restore the dignity and self-respect of their communities through the two novels that interrogate negative and inauthentic representations and provide challenging, alternative perspectives. They are simultaneous narratives of protest and assertion and choose similar narrative thrust points to achieve their objectives.

Abstract:
This article argues that religious mythologies and cultural narratives about the timelessness of gender diversity in South Asia frame the formation of the transgender subject of rights in India. The authors interrogate a verdict issued by the Supreme Court of India in 2014 and the Transgender Person Bill of Rights (2018) to ascertain the frames of recognition accorded diverse transgender communities in India. This is followed by an analysis of the category of eunuch created and criminalized by British colonizers and the present-day category of transgender based on self-affirmation of gender. The conflating of religious mythologies into deliberations about transgender constitutional rights reveals how the supposedly secular rights – based claims of and for transgender communities are mediated through a predominantly Hindu Brahmanical imagination of the rights-bearing transgender subject. The authors examine autobiographical narratives by three prominent transgender rights activists in India: Laxmi Narayan Tripathi, Living Smile Vidya, and A. Revathi, who provide conflicting visions about the role of religion and state recognition of transgender identities. The authors argue the need for theorizing transgender subjectivities from non-Brahman, Dalit, transmasculine, and non – North Indian perspectives. Such theorizations reveal the potential of coalitional transgender activisms that seek to disrupt Hindu-nationalist hailing of the transgender subject of rights in contemporary India. The authors offer new directions in transgender studies by showing how religious narratives, ritual and performance lie at the heart of transgender subject formation while gesturing toward how such formation risks subsuming transgender identities within (Hindu) nationalist projects.

Abstract:
Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) is the principal programme operating in India to address issues around child development, malnutrition and pre-school education. A package of services – including the Supplementary Nutrition Programme (SNP), pre-school education, immunization, health check-ups, referral services, and nutrition and health education – are provided through an Anganwadi Centre (AWC) with an Anganwadi Worker (AWW) and an Anganwadi Helper (AWH) for roughly every one thousand people. From the mid-1990s, there have been successive efforts on the part of the Government of India to universalize ICDS, and there has been a multi-fold increase in funds allocated to this programme between the 8th Five-Year Plan (1992–93 to 1996–97) and the 12th Five-Year Plan (2012–17) (1-2). However, the utilization of all services under ICDS continues to be grossly low. Close to 75 percent of children aged 0–71 months in the areas covered by AWCs did not receive any supplementary food from the centres, and less than 12 percent of children received supplementary food ‘almost daily’. For children aged 36–71 months this figure is 15.5 percent. More than 80 percent of children were not weighed at all. It has been reported that children belonging to economically backward and socially marginalised families, including Dalit, tribal, and religious minorities, are excluded from utilising these services through unfavourable institutional rules and structural factors. Equally, members of well-off families do not use services provided by AWCs – especially the SNP – for under-6 children. A multi-sited ethnographic study was conducted in four villages in Gujarat in order to identify the reasons behind poor utilisation of AWCs, especially the SNP services. The study aimed to understand everyday experience of households around the SNP in rural settings and an opportunity to study AWCs as institutions embedded in the context of village cultural life. The authors hypothesise that a study focusing on AWCs could serve as an illustrative case to highlight challenges in implementing other entitlement-based programmes.

This study uses a bibliometric approach, which is analized quantitatively using Lotka’s law. The results show that: (1) Authors productivity of Jurnal Psikologi by involving first writer (straight count) according to Lotka's law, that is Dmaks < critical point value. Conversely, if the calculation is done by involving all the authors (complete count) the results obtained are not in accordance with the Lotka’s law, because Dmax > critical point value. (2) Productivity of the author of Buletin Psikologi by involving the first author (straight count) the result shows that Dmax > the critical point value or not according to Lotka's law. Similarly, productivity by involving all authors is also inconsistent with Lotka's law because Dmax > the critical point. Other results indicate that Faturochman was the most prolific writer of the two scientific magazines.

Media education as a part of higher education curriculum*Halliki Harro-Loit and Kadri Ugur
SummaryEuropean communication and education policy documents repeatedly refer to media literacy as a prerequisite of successfully performing active citizens and conscious consumers in information society. Substantial part of the task to provide systematic media education lies on the formal school-based education system. Hence a question arises about the competences teachers should acquire at university or from further training courses. The aim of this article is to examine how existing university curricula on media and communication could contribute to the development of media education programs in higher education system. The authors take into consideration that the media education programs in curricula of a higher education system depend on the national media and education policy; already available programs in higher education curricula and further education projects; concept of media education in national curricula; local media context.Proceeding from the media education components the authors propose a possible content of media education modules that should be available for the students in teacher training. In order to create such modules media studies and pedagogy should be combined and the whole program should be embedded in the discourse of media and pedagogy.Key words: media education, media literacy, media education components, higher education curriculum, European communication policy

Abstract:
The article explores the question whether, in the light of the concepts of procedural and remedial autonomy of the Member States, the case law of the ECJ on the enforcement of consumer rights derived from various Consumer Protection Directives is consistent with its case law on the enforcement of individuals’ rights under other branches of EU law. The authors begin by examining the case law of the ECJ on the concepts of procedural and remedial autonomy of the Member States in the context of the enforcement of individuals’ rights derived from EU law in general. Subsequently, the authors proceed with an analysis of the application of those concepts in the most recent case law on the enforcement of consumer rights derived from the Consumer Protection Directives. This part distinguishes between cases concerning national legislation and procedures guaranteeing a higher level of consumer protection than required by those directives (e.g. cases C-509/07, Scarpelli, C-484/08, Caja de Ahorros, C-358/08, Aventis Pasteur) and cases in which national rules fall short of the minimum standards of protection provided for under those directives (e.g. cases C-489/07, Messner, C-215/08, E. Friz, C-511/08, Handelsgesellschaft Heinrich Heine, C-240/98 to C-244/98, Océano Grupo, C-473/00, Cofidis, C-168/05, Mostaza Claro, C-429/05, Rampion and Godard, C-40/08, Asturcom Telecomunicaciones, C-227/08, Martín Martín, C-243/08, Pannon GSM, C-137/08, VB Pénzügyi Lízing). It is submitted that, while the former series of cases reflects a standard application of the concepts of procedural and remedial autonomy, the latter series of cases reveals, in certain regards, a more consumer-oriented approach.

Abstract:
This interview with the well-known poet Daljit Nagra was conducted in summer 2022 by Claire Chambers, with Rachael Gilmour providing questions in absentia due to a bout of coronavirus. In it, the three discuss such issues as ‘refugee tales’, poetic ethics and voice, the Brexit referendum’s emboldening of the far right and, of course, the COVID-19 pandemic. Above all, the conversation turns to Nagra’s bending of language via his use of ‘babu English’, his interpolation of Hindi and Punjabi words and his influences from such authors as William Shakespeare, John Milton and Nissim Ezekiel. Nagra looks in particular towards his fifth, forthcoming collection Indiom. In these ways, the interview develops on and updates interview with Nagra for Crossings and chapter on language and voice in Nagra’s first three collections.

This paper aim to present the result of research to analyse the level of author productivity in Berkala Arkeologi journal. The approach that I use is Lotka Law. The law says that if among a hundred people can produce one article, then there will be a quarter of them who produce two articles, there will be one ninth of them will produce three articles, and there will be one sixteenth of them produce 4 articles and so on. This is called the inverse square law of Lotka about author productivity. This paper also describes the statistical methods used to test the correlation between the author and the amount of articles produced, K-S test, a statistical test that is classified into Nonparametric Statistics, used to test the degree of closeness of two sets of data or two distribution (Goodness of fit). From the result this study the author of the Berkala Arkeologi journal in this years 1980-2009 is 138 people. Articles written as many as 392 articles. Based on calculations by the law of Lotka it is found that the productivity of authors for each article is a result of 44 816%, the author of two articles which generate as much as 18,003%, the author of many articles as 10.560% produces 3 and so on.

Abstract:

The smoking law has always been something debatable because of the absence of a proposition that explicitly prohibits it. Some views remain on the view that smoking is makruh, although some others forbid it. One of the fatwas that prohibits smoking is found in the Kerinci manuscript accompanied by quranic and hadith postulates. Therefore, this study will further analyze the postulates used to prohibit smoking in the manuscript. This research is a qualitative research with a philological and historical approach. It aims to obtain a comprehensive account of the state of the manuscript and the postulates used to support the fatwa. This research shows that the postulates used in the smoking problem in the manuscript are indicated by hadith maudhu' (false) although the author lists the names of famous companions in narrating hadith, such as Abu Hurairah, and so on, because tobacco as the main commudity of cigarette making has not been found in the time of the prophet. The use of these hadiths aims to support the author's argument about the monasticism of smoking or smoking tobacco

The authors examined the effect of external shading system on cognitive performance, alertness and visual comfort of visual display terminal (VDT) users under two realistic office lighting settings in this study. Daylight was the source of illumination being considered as the most significant and preferred one. A total of 26 participants performed visual and cognitive demanding tasks as well as providing subjective alertness, performance and visual evaluations in a full-scale mock-up VDT workstation. Two trials (with and without shading system) were executed during one experimental session. Results revealed that the use of a shading system improves the performance of a user on colour-naming task requiring sustained attention, while no differential effects were observed on tasks involving other cognitive skills such as search velocity and vigilance. Within-subject performance differences were more pronounced during morning hours. Higher performance was reported in some cognitive tests when the subjective sensation of visual discomfort was lower.

Abstract:
This study examines the influence of the science of jarh wa ta'dil in determining the validity of qunut hadith for every subuh prayer in the Shafi'i school of thought. This study investigates how Shafi'i scholars apply the science of jarh wa ta'dil to assess the validity and authenticity of hadith and provide recommendations for Muslims in responding to qunut subuh hadith. This study uses a qualitative method with a descriptive-analytic approach. Data is collected from relevant books, scientific journals, and online articles. Data analysis is carried out using content analysis methods. The results of the author's research find that the science of Jarh wa ta'dil plays a very important role for Shafi'i scholars in particular and generally for all scholars of madhhab in assessing the credibility of a sanad matan, such as analyzing the behavior of hadith narrators, piety, honesty, even more specifically such as from the quality of the narrator's memorization, and the author found that the hadiths that were used as arguments for qunut subuh by the Shafi'i madhhab could be used as hujjah, Based on the results of the study, it is concluded that a hadith nash can be used as the basis for a religious law when it is at the level of maqbul hadith, at least hasan ligoiri, and for qunut hadith in the Shafi'i school of thought it is classified as maqbul hadith so it can be used as evidence for its implementation.

Abstract:
Space is man-made socially constructed locations, without which they cannot have a comfortable life. Reflecting on the life experiences of the people who exist in the margins of the society, autobiography appears to be the appropriate genre that reflects the lived experiences of the characters as they live through them. It reflects not only the author's personal experiences but also the people whom they meet in their lifeworld. In other words, it is a narration of both individual and collective lived experiences. Dalit writing in Indian literature has become the most controversial topic in recent times, taking autobiography as its predominant form of writing. This paper attempts to explore Baby Kamble’s The Prisons We Broke as a self-reflexive narrative. The characters experience extreme humiliation in the public and private spheres of their lives. The purpose of the paper is to categorise their absolute humiliation experience using Van Manen’s lifeworld existentialism and self-reflexivity as a theoretical framework.

This article delves into the repercussions of cultural interference and acculturation by focusing on the traditional culture of Vietnam’s K’Ho ethnic group. Drawing from both quantitative and qualitative data collected in Lac Duong town and Ta Nung commune (in Dalat city), Lam Dong province, the authors apply the social change theory to analyze pivotal K’Ho festivals. The investigation reveals a diminishing presence of festivals such as the New Rice celebration, buffalo stabbing, and gong festivals. This decline is linked to transformations in the agricultural economy and heightened awareness within the K’Ho community. Consequently, these shifts contributed to the development of cultural models within the K’Ho community, aligning with contemporary social development practices. This study sheds light on the intricate interplay between cultural preservation, economic shifts, and evolving societal consciousness among the K’Ho people.

In the tradition of analytical philosophy psychoanalysis is widely considered pseudoscientific, despite the significant decrease of rationalist and positivist influence on philosophical discourse. Then they are directly measured by the HPGe gamma spectrometer and the measured data are processed. The experimental results for determination of ranges of contents and average values for 8 elements respectively are Na (1.06 - 2,48; 1.71 ± 0.30 mg/ml), Cl (1.10 - 3.75; 2.66 ± 0.71 mg/ml), Fe (0.26 - 0.72; 0.49 ± 0.09 mg/ml), K (0.31 - 1.14; 0.73 ± 0.15 mg/ml), Zn (4.55 - 13.97; 8.08 ± 1.24 μg/ml), Rb (2.73 - 7.92; 5.11 ± 0.86 μg/ml), Se (0.04 - 0.18; 0.08 ± 0.03 μg/ml) and Sc (0.22 – 1.61; 0.56 ± 0.24 ng/ml). Besides, content of sodium to be determined by the k-zero method and the relative one are compared also. The results for determination of contents of 8 elements in the human samples to be compared with those of other authers are shown that this method has had confidence, and it could be applied routinely in determination of contents of multi-elements.

Abstract:
Two-step gamma transitions corresponding to the decays from the compound state (6,062.93 keV) to the ground state of 182Ta nucleus have been investigated via a 181Ta(n,γ)182Ta reaction using the thermal neutron beam from the No.3 neutron channel of the Dalat Nuclear Research Reactor and a gamma-gamma coincidence spectrometer. By comparing with data extracted from the Evaluated Nuclear Structure Data File (ENSDF) library, the authors have determined the order of 20 pairs of gamma cascade transitions, and then constructed a corresponding partial nuclear level scheme of 182Ta. Based on the detected gamma transitions and levels, 17 primary transitions, 1 secondary transition, and 20 intermediate levels are found to be the same as those in the ENSDF. The remaining 3 primary transitions and 19 secondary transitions are, thus, considered as the new data. In addition, a tentative spin range of (2, 3, 4)ℏ. has been assigned to all the intermediate levels detected within the present work.

Abstract:
This article aims to examine the outcomes of state-led resettlement and rehabilitation processes in the resettled colonies of Rengali Dam displaced communities in the state of Odisha, India. By employing the descriptive research design and analysing qualitative and quantitative field data, it presents several consequences of the displacement process and how people and communities are impacted by it. It argues that while the Indian state has responded to development-led displaced people with promises of ‘resettlement and rehabilitation’, in most cases, the State 1 1 The authors are referring to the ‘State’ at national, provincial and local levels. has only confined itself to ‘resettlement’, neglecting the ‘rehabilitation’ of displaced communities—many of them Dalits, Adivasis and marginal farmers. Referring to the doctrine of the ‘eminent domain of the state’, it points out the failure of public policies in the equitable distribution of growth benefits and how it has intensified the vulnerability of the displaced communities. This analysis has implications for future development-led displacement and resettlement and rehabilitation of people and their communities.

Abstract:
This article, excerpted and adapted from the early chapters of a new book, emphasizes the systematic preparations that laid the ground for the expulsion of more than 750,000 Palestinians from what became Israel in 1948. While sketching the context and diplomatic and political developments of the period, the article highlights in particular a multi-year ““Village Files”” project (1940––47) involving the systematic compilation of maps and intelligence for each Arab village and the elaboration——under the direction of an inner ““caucus”” of fewer than a dozen men led by David Ben-Gurion——of a series of military plans culminating in Plan Dalet, according to which the 1948 war was fought. The article ends with a statement of one of the author's underlying goals in writing the book: to make the case for a paradigm of ethnic cleansing to replace the paradigm of war as the basis for the scholarly research of, and the public debate about, 1948.

Abstract:
Cities representing European Capitals of Culture (ECCs) are chosen to promote the diversity and multiculturalism of a global city. But this multicultural and international character comes with the price of standardization, a concept enhanced by the EU through the idea of togeth- erness, and individuals belonging to the same cultural space. Therefore, the visual communication of those cities can be more homogenized, less descriptive and without particularities related to a culture of a specific geo- graphic area. Following Jewitt, Bezemer and O`Halloran (2016), this paper aims to employ a multimodal analysis of images used by the local authori- ties of Plovdiv and Matera (European Capitals of Culture in 2019) on their websites. Therefore, it aims to demonstrate how these two cities communi- cate use generic images, focusing on what Machin and van Leeuwen (2007) identify as characteristics of global images, namely timelessness, low mo- dality, decontextualization and also relying on generic attributes, models and settings. As a result, images become more symbolical and conceptual, causing national identities to diminish in the viewers’ eyes, making cities seem familiar, thus enriching the togetherness of globalization.

Abstract:
Malaysian Abstract Expressionist art has continued to impact and influence the nation’s art scene since the late 1950s. Malaysian artists such as Syed Ahmad Jamal, Yeoh Jin Leng, Latiff Mohidin and Chew Teng Beng have experimented and explored with abstraction in pursuit of their distinctive style, adding to the dynamic and ever-evolving context of Malaysian art. As the earliest proponents of Abstract Expressionist art in Malaysia, their influences are still strong today, as can be observed in the works of the following artists who achieved prominence in the Malaysian abstract art scene in the late 1970s: Sharifah Fatimah Zubir, Yusof Ghani, Rafiee Ghani, Suzlee Ibrahim and Awang Damit Ahmad. Thus, this paper aims to elucidate the connection between abstract art creativity and the aforementioned artists by examining the selected artworks produced by them. In this case, the domesticating strategy facilitated the transformation of Abstract Expressionism into the art creation of nine Malaysian artists, who used diverse abstraction approaches to convey their inner spirit. Based on the authors’ observation, the diverse abstraction trends bridge a connection between these two generations of Malaysian artists. Through the application of Edmund Felman’s visual analysis method, their works are observed to exhibit a variety of abstraction trends that have contributed to the diversification of Malaysian Abstract Expressionist art, which can be seen in gestural, pure, organic and calligraphic abstraction.

Abstract:
Verslo valdymo sistemų (VVS), automatizuojančių įmonių verslo procesus, įsigijimui ir jų priežiūrai šiuolaikinės įmonės skiria didžiules lėšas, kurios sudaro nemažą viso jų IT biudžeto dalį. Deja, kaip rodo praktiniai tyrimai, šios lėšos ne visada naudojamos efektyviai, nes išnaudojama tik nedidelė įdiegtų VVS funkcinių galimybių dalis. Laikui bėgant turimų sistemų naudojamų funkcijų kiekis kartais net mažėja. Todėl ypač svarbu periodiškai vertinti šių sistemų panaudojimo efektyvumą. Tam reikalingos VVS funkcinių galimybių panaudojimo vertinimo priemonės. Straipsnio autoriai, sukaupę kelerių metų „The Accounting Library“ (TAL) sprendimų paramos sistemos naudojimo VVS atrankos projektuose patirtį, siūlo praplėsti šios sistemos galimybes pritaikant ją VVS standartinio funkcionalumo naudojimui vertinti.Pagrindiniai žodžiai: verslo valdymo sistemos, VVS, VVS funkcinių galimybių naudojimas, programų erozija, sprendimų paramos sistemos, The Accounting Library SPS.Evaluation of Enterprice Planning Systems' Functionality Usage Česlovas Ratkevičius, Donatas RatkevičiusSummaryModern companies spend huge amounts of money on the acquisition and maintenance of the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERERP) systems which automate their business processes. This expenditure composes a significant part of their whole IT budget. Unfortunately, according to practical researches, these investments are not always used efficiently, because companies use only a small part of the implemented ER P systems’ functionality. Moreover, usually through time they use less and less systems’ functions. Therefore, it is very important to periodically evaluate the ER P systems’ usage efficiency. It is necessary to have tools for such evaluation. The authors of the article have accumulated a several years’ experience in using “The Accounting Library” (TAL) decision support system in ERERP software selection projects. They suggest to expand this system by adapting it for performing evaluations of ERERP functionality usage. The described methods could be used also for developing specialized IT audit tools.

Abstract:
The objective of the paper is to review the existing literature on social security and social protection program in Nepal carried out by Government of Nepal and offered suggestion for the betterment of the program in the line of equality, financial sustainability and economic growth. The paper is prepared based on the desk review of the various scientific articles and report published by the institutions and individual authors. In total 64 papers have been reviewed published during ten years period ranges from 2006 to 2015.
Based on the critical review the paper conclude that Dalits, endangered community, school girls, child and people living in the remote areas such as Karnali have been benefitted from numerous social security related programs. The doubling of social assistance is enhancing social protection of those who are in such nets. However, social security programs lack effectiveness compared to increased budget, scattered programs implemented through different agencies in many instances in an adhoc basis without effective coordinated implementation mechanism has made the outcomes less beneficial and effective from the standpoint of intended beneficiaries. One of the serious challenges in the areas of social security is that still all workers working in the informal economy consisting of more than 96 per cent of the total labor force are outside the purview of social security program. The new Integrated Social Security act has also not covered the workers in the informal sector. Similarly, it encompasses through many ambiguities and overlaps. A big chunk of entitled population is deprived of getting the benefits of such programs. More worryingly, out of them, most deprived are disabled.

Abstract:
This article is based on the author's production of Aimé Césaire's A Tempest in India. Guided by the concept of transculturation, a key concern of Kamaluddin Nilu in the working process was to develop positions that could be considered parallel to those of Césaire. The topographical condition of present-day India is interpreted as ‘internal colonialism’, locked in differences within, and presented through a double-framed vision. The parallel to ‘black subjectivity’ was found to be the Dalits, who suffer from systematic discrimination and are segregated from the main social body. Further, when adjusting the text to ‘India's world’, the notion of a ‘third space’, benefiting from the performance matrix of the traditional ritualistic performance Ram Lila as well as a heterotopian space concept, was crucial. The intention to make a theatre production that could give the audience an opportunity to engage in a political debate on the hierarchical nature of Indian society was fulfilled. Breaking the established postcolonial political myth meant that the audience was faced with the unexpected. In such cases an indirect or parabolic performance mode of communication rather than a synergetic one becomes likely. Kamaluddin Nilu is an independent theatre director and researcher affiliated with the Centre for Ibsen Studies, University of Oslo. He is currently a Research Fellow at the International Research Centre ‘Interweaving Performance Cultures’ at the Freie University, Berlin. He was Chair Professor of the Theatre Department at Hyderabad University in India, and Artistic Director of the Centre for Asian Theatre (CAT) in Dhaka.

Abstract:
The negotiations are an inseparable part of the real estate buying and selling process. Currently real estate are characterized by the intensive creation and use of information, knowledge and automation (software, knowledge and decision support systems, neural networks, etc.) applications. It is commonly agreed that a better integration of information, knowledge and automation applications, as well use of voice stress analysis (one of biometric technologies) might be an efficient mean for decision making in real estate negotiations. Voice stress analysis can help the negotiators to distinguish between truth and lies, improve the value of decisions made, significantly speed up real estate sector processes, help to reach a better real estate sales and purchase agreement terms and decrease the overall cost of real estate search and negotiation processes. The authors’ objective is to improve the quality and efficiency of decision support systems. The article analyses scientific research related to negotiations and presents the developed Web–based Real Estate Multiple Criteria Negotiation Decision Support System with integrated voice stress analysis– a new generation of Decision Support Systems.
