Abstract:
Dance sport, like other sports belongs to the aesthetic and coordinating sports; with high demands of nearly all motoric skills. They require mainly the ability to coordinate, which is often the limiting factor of performance in dance sport. Due to the fact that dance is synonymous with music and closely associated with the rhythmic capabilities, we will focus further on detailed characteristics of the two rhythmic abilities: rhythmic perception and rhythmic execution. The research sample consisted of 153 test subjects in the age range 17-34 years. The experimental group consists of 104 dancers (53 women and 51 men). The control group consisted of 49 high school students. To examine the level of rhythmic perception, we used a test called rhythmic discrimination. To examine the level of rhythmic execution, we used a test called rhythmic drumming. We proved that dance sport has a positive effect on the level of our selected rhythmic ability, the longer the subjects danced, the better the results achieved in tests. We were unable to prove a statistically significant relationship between rhythmic perception and implementation.

Abstract:
Introduction. Current trends in the development of sports dance indicate the impact of modern knowledge of sports science on the system of improving the functional support of special performance of dancers. The lack of a systematic approach to the management of training loads significantly affects the formation of specific methodological approaches to improving the special performance of dancers, taking into account the specific characteristics of training inherent in sports that combine sports and art. The aim is to develop a systematic approach aimed at modeling the special functional training of dancers, taking into account the specific requirements of training in sport dances. Material and methods: analysis of special scientific and methodical literature. Theoretical research methods: analysis, synthesis, comparison, generalization, concretization, systematization. Results. The structure and algorithm of realization of modeling of special functional preparation in sports dance are developed: 1) Structural organization of the analysis directed on formation of the system approach to modeling of sports training. 2) Specific principles of forming a systematic approach to modeling the training of dancers. 3) Structural and logical scheme of modeling the functional readiness of dancers. 4) Characteristics of models of training of athletes-dancers. 5) Aids for modeling the readiness of athletes in sport dances. Conclusions. The system approach is developed on the basis of the model-target approach of realization of modeling as functions of management of special functional preparation of athlete-dancers. The formation of the structural components of the model-target approach requires taking into account the specific components of training and preparedness inherent in sports that combine sport and art. The structural and logical scheme of realization of the model-target approach provides the algorithm which purpose consists in formation of the software of special functional preparation in sports dance.

Abstract:
The enormous success of The Last Dance, the sports documentary on Michael Jordan’s career, and especially his last season, is the result of a rare confluence of factors, each of which is a unique and rare phenomenon in the history of sport. Their combination has already turned the mini-series into a global media event of the kind that is usually reserved for live broadcasts of extraordinary events. A basketball player with unusual personal and professional abilities, supported by a highly polished and well-oiled marketing system; the specific window of time in which his star shone – the late 1990s, when the era of media commercialization and globalization flourished, yet before the emergence of social media and their typical critical discourse; the rise in sports documentaries in recent years; and encasing all of these is the time of the documentary’s broadcast, when sports life across the world ceased due to the coronavirus. The mini-series, which seemingly deals with a single season in the career of a single player in a single sport, is actually so much more. It is a composition reflecting much wider social, sports and media phenomena.

Abstract:
Very few studies have been conducted on substance use (SU) in performing sports. In the current study, we analyzed SU and factors related to SU in dance sport. The sample subjects consisted of 21 female and 22 male dancers, all >19 years of age, who were given an anonymous questionnaire developed for this study. The questionnaire consisted of questions about 1) social, cultural, educational, and sport-related factors, and 2) SU, including alcohol, opiates, cigarettes, and doping consumption, and personal opinions. The chi-square test was used to define the differences between male and female dancers. To identify the relationships between the studied factors and SU, the Pearson's correlation coefficient was calculated separately in males and females. We found a relatively low incidence of cigarette smoking (<10%) and significant differences between males and females in opinions regarding doping issues. The level of the sport achievement in females and religiousness in male dancers was significantly related to SU. Although not frequent, the consumption of alcohol was more common in more successful and experienced dancers. The use of pain killers was related to age in female dancers (all at p < 0.05). Based on these results, we recommend educational programs regarding SU, especially about doping problems, in sport dance.

Abstract:
Is sport art? Is dance a sport? Such questions are asked on the pages of social media as well as on the pages of research journals. Debating whether dancers are athletes or sport has aesthetic qualities can reveal broader issues regarding the current health conscious, competitive, and commercialized (neo-liberal) culture: What do dance and sport do when they intersect in the larger operations of power that currently favor particular kinds of physical activity participation and representation? In this paper, I map various intersections of sport and dance first through sport philosophical debates about the aesthetic qualities of sport. Second, I examine what happens when competition is introduction to ballroom dance in the formation of DanceSport. Finally, I depict how dance and sport become intertwined as entertainment in reality television shows Dancing with the Stars and So You Think You Can Dance.

Abstract:
The popularity of sports dances continues to grow every year. It was found that today sports dances and their elements are actively used in physical education of preschoolers, schoolchildren and students. The adult population of the country is also involved in this sport. Popular are various dance clubs and hobby classes, which are open to people of all ages. The article identifies the main directions and features of the use of sports dances and their elements in the field of physical culture and sports. The programs and methods of application of elements of dance preparation in physical education of preschool children and schoolboys are considered. A significant number of techniques are aimed at developing physical abilities and improving the health of children. The use of the programs developed by the authors promotes harmonious physical development, attention development, improvement and optimization of the educational process of physical culture in secondary schools, the formation of motivation for physical education, the development of diverse harmonious personality, improving the physical condition of school children. The ways of improving the educational and training process and various aspects of the training of dancers are outlined both through the development of leading specific physical qualities and technical training. An important task in planning the process of physical training is the rational determination of priority areas at each stage of sports improvement. The importance of choreographic training in complex coordination sports, such as acrobatics, rhythmic gymnastics, synchronized swimming, sports aerobics, figure skating, diving, trampoline exercises is substantiated. It was found that choreographic training in sport dances includes a system of exercises and methods of influence aimed at educating the motor culture of dancers, to expand the arsenal of means of expression.

Abstract:
This thesis explore the experiences of heteronormativity of six ballroom dancers. Their own thoughts on different roles and meaning behind the dances have been captured in interviews. Later translated and analysed through Queer theory and Erving Goffmans dramaturgical perspective theory where he enlightens us about his perspective on social situations as performances based upon the conviction of persuasion. Discovering that heteronormativity lives within the sport as traditions from past times and upheld by rules and guidelines, and attitudes expressed by the dancers. The dancers themselves agree on changing the rules of the sport is making the meaning of ballroom dancing less accurate matching the history of the sport which seems to be the pillar of ballroom dancing. Heteronormativity is the main subject of this thesis.

Abstract:
Recently researchers have found that indicators of perfectionistic strivings and perfectionistic concerns share divergent relationships with athlete burnout. To extend this research the thesis examined whether self-determination theory could help to explain these divergent relationships. The first study suggested that the positive association between perfectionistic concerns and athlete burnout was explained, in part, by controlled motivation. In contrast, the inverse association between perfectionistic strivings and athlete burnout was explained, in part, by autonomous motivation. Building on study one, the second study of the thesis examined whether perfectionistic concerns and perfectionistic strivings also shared divergent associations with athlete engagement, and whether basic psychological needs could explain these associations. The study two findings suggested that perfectionistic concerns and perfectionistic strivings did share opposing associations with athlete engagement. Moreover, the positive perfectionistic strivings-engagement and inverse perfectionistic concerns-engagement associations were explained by basic psychological need satisfaction and thwarting. In addition, the positive perfectionistic concerns-burnout and inverse perfectionistic strivings-burnout associations were also mediated by basic psychological need satisfaction and thwarting. Study three built on the first two studies by examining how perfectionistic strivings and perfectionistic concerns predicted self-conscious emotions on a day-to-day basis. The study three findings suggested that perfectionistic concerns predicted reduced pride, increased shame and guilt, and greater emotional instability; whereas perfectionistic strivings did not significantly predict self-conscious emotions. The fourth study examined how parents and dance tutors moderate dancers’ perfectionism. The study four findings advanced previous research in sport and dance by demonstrating that parental conditional regard strengthened the positive association between perfectionistic concerns and ill being in youth dancers. Together the studies suggested that perfectionistic concerns and perfectionistic strivings share opposing relationships with well-being and ill-being outcomes in youth sport and dance and that self-determination theory provides a theoretical lens through which to understand these relationships.

Abstract:
Previous studies have shown that dance has a positive impact on the individual's health. Despite this, dance is given a limited space in the school subject sports and health. The purpose of this study is to investigate the subject sports and health in grades 7–9 from a teacher perspective with a focus on the lesson element dance. The study is based on a qualitative approach and consists of digital semi-structured interviews. The sample consisted of 6 sports teachers with valid identification who work in high school with grades 7-9. The sample consisted of a 50/50 gender distribution. During the interviews, the participants got to reflect and discuss the dance part in the subject of sports and health. They shared their own experiences and thoughts that were relevant to the study. The result was able to state that the dance part works well according to the participants, even though in some cases there is a more negative attitude to the dance. Two major challenges that were highlighted by most participants include the attitude / attitude towards dance and the impact of the Corona pandemic on dance instruction. At present, the dance element is a knowledge requirement in teaching and can have a great impact on students' grades both positively and negatively. In 2022, this will change, which has aroused the thoughts of some participants. The dance is seen as a fun activity that is "so much more than just something silly" which can also be used outside of school. The gender reflections on dance show that the participants experience girls more often rise in grades while the boys' grades can be lowered a lot. This may be partly because the boys have a more negative attitude to the dance. The different themes of the result can be linked to each other, which shows that many different parts can affect the dance part in sports and health.

"The effect of classical ballet, Slovakian folklore dance and sport dance on static postural control in female and male dancers." In 12th International Conference on Kinanthropology. Abstract:
Purpose: Classical ballet, Slovakian folklore dance, and sport dance training differ in their way how to master the art of dance; however, postural control is essential for the correct exe-cution of complex movements used in all types of dance. The aim of this study was to analyse the differences in static postural control between classical ballet dancers, Slovakian folklore dancers and sport dancers and to analyse the effect of body mass, body height and toe grip strength on postural control. Methods: 68 dancers, between 17 to 28 years of age, participated in this study: 21 dancers from Slovakian folklore dance group VSLPT Poľana Brno (12 females, 9 males), 22 dancers from Brno Dance conservatory (16 females, 6 males) and 25 sport dancers competing at Brno Dance Open 2019 (12 females, 13 males). All participants were asked to stand upright, barefooted, arms along the body, both feet on the Emed-at platform (Novel GmbH, Germany) for 10 seconds with their eyes open to obtain the length of COP line (cm), average velocity of COP (cm/s), the elliptic area (mm2) and numerical eccentricity of the ellipse. The toe grip strength was measured for each foot when sitting using toe grip dynamometer (Takei Scien-tific Instruments, Niigata, Japan). To analyse the effect of dance style, to grip strength, body mass, body height, and gender on postural control variables, Kruskal Wallis test, and Spear-man Rank Order Correlation were used. Results: Abetter postural stability measured by the length and average velocity of COP was observed in sport dancers, compared to classical ballet and Slovakian folklore dancers. Sport dancers are used to a greater load on the forefoot and to a special foot roll-of pattern when dancing, which may lead together with a constantly changing environment during competi-tions to their enhanced postural stability. Despite the differences in dance training and dance footwear of female and male dancers (high-heel shoes in sport and Slovakian folklore female dancers, pointe shoes in female ballet dancers), no statistically significant difference in pos-tural variables between genders was observed. Similarly, in analysed dancers, no effect of age, body mass, and body weight on postural control were observed. The toe grip strength was not observed to affect the postural variables in this study. The greatest toe grip strength was observed in female ballet dancers, despite their younger age. Ballet dance training in-cludes repetitive exercises focused on foot and toes such as battement tendu or demi-pointe and en pointe positions probably resulting in the greater strength of the toes. Conclusion: In this study, better postural stability measured by the length and average ve-locity of COP was observed in sport dancers, compared to classical ballet and Slovakian folklore dancers. In analysed dancers, no effect of body mass, body weight, gender, and toe grip strength on postural control variables was observed. Future studies focused on postural stability changes in non-dancers after a sport dance, classical ballet and Slovakian folklore dance training program would provide additional knowledge about the process how each type of dance enhance the balance and other coordinative skills.

Abstract:
In the modern world of sports, exercise is not considered a key success factor. Sport is an environment in which individuals need to motivate themselves to achieve long-term goals. Athletes are constantly required to cope with the stress of training and competitive pressure and thus manage and regulate their emotions. Research aim – to analyze the literature and to reveal aspects of the effect of dance on girls’ motor abilities.

Physical Activity and the Health of Wheelchair Users: A Systematic Review in Multiple Sclerosis, Cerebral Palsy, and Spinal Cord Injury. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), October 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.23970/ahrqepccer241.

Abstract:
Objectives. Although the health benefits of physical activity are well described for the general population, less is known about the benefits and harms of physical activity in people dependent upon, partially dependent upon, or at risk for needing a wheelchair. This systematic review summarizes the evidence for physical activity in people with multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, and spinal cord injury regardless of current use or nonuse of a wheelchair. Data sources. We searched MEDLINE®, CINAHL®, PsycINFO®, Cochrane CENTRAL, Embase®, and Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine Source from 2008 through November 2020, reference lists, and clinical trial registries. Review methods. Predefined criteria were used to select randomized controlled trials, quasiexperimental nonrandomized trials, and cohort studies that addressed the benefits and harms of observed physical activity (at least 10 sessions on 10 different days of movement using more energy than rest) in participants with multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, and spinal cord injury. Individual study quality (risk of bias) and the strength of bodies of evidence for key outcomes were assessed using prespecified methods. Dual review procedures were used. Effects were analyzed by etiology of impairment and physical activity modality, such as treadmill, aquatic exercises, and yoga, using qualitative, and when appropriate, quantitative synthesis using random effects meta-analyses. Results. We included 146 randomized controlled trials, 15 quasiexperimental nonrandomized trials, and 7 cohort studies (168 studies in 197 publications). More studies enrolled participants with multiple sclerosis (44%) than other conditions, followed by cerebral palsy (38%) and spinal cord injury (18%). Most studies were rated fair quality (moderate risk of bias). The majority of the evidence was rated low strength. • In participants with multiple sclerosis, walking ability may be improved with treadmill training and multimodal exercise regimens that include strength training; function may be improved with treadmill training, balance exercises, and motion gaming; balance is likely improved with postural control exercises (which may also reduce risk of falls) and may be improved with aquatic exercises, robot-assisted gait training, treadmill training, motion gaming, and multimodal exercises; activities of daily living may be improved with aquatic therapy; sleep may be improved with aerobic exercises; aerobic fitness may be improved with multimodal exercises; and female sexual function may be improved with aquatic exercise. • In participants with cerebral palsy, balance may be improved with hippotherapy and motion gaming, and function may be improved with cycling, treadmill training, and hippotherapy. • In participants with spinal cord injury, evidence suggested that activities of daily living may be improved with robot-assisted gait training. • When randomized controlled trials were pooled across types of exercise, physical activity interventions were found to improve walking in multiple sclerosis and likely improve balance and depression in multiple sclerosis. Physical activity may improve function and aerobic fitness in people with cerebral palsy or spinal cord injury. When studies of populations with multiple sclerosis and cerebral palsy were combined, evidence indicated dance may improve function. • Evidence on long-term health outcomes was not found for any analysis groups. For intermediate outcomes such as blood pressure, lipid profile, and blood glucose, there was insufficient evidence from which to draw conclusions. There was inadequate reporting of adverse events in many trials. Conclusions. Physical activity was associated with improvements in walking ability, general function, balance (including fall risk), depression, sleep, activities of daily living, female sexual function, and aerobic capacity, depending on population enrolled and type of exercise utilized. No studies reported long-term cardiovascular or metabolic disease health outcomes. Future trials could alter these findings; further research is needed to examine health outcomes, and to understand the magnitude and clinical importance of benefits seen in intermediate outcomes.
