Abstract:
This article discusses the implementation of the international phonetic alphabet IPA in Danish phonetic tradition. In Danish tradition, it is common to present IPA as extremely complex, a system that relies heavily on diacritics and very subtle phonetic nuances. For these reasons, it is customary to apply certain modifications to the IPA, such as redefining the phonetic value of some symbols and adding non-standard symbols. The article compares the use of IPA in Danish tradition with official IPA principles and the implementation of IPA in other languages. It is argued that traditional Danish

Abstract In most countries, the Tales of the brothers Grimm become known by degrees, beginning with one or two stories or a small selection. The situation in Denmark is not typical for a variety of reasons: the Grimms had close personal contacts with prominent Danes. Culturally their Tales belonged to a distant pangermanic tradition common to Danes and Germans. Therefore the first volume of tales (1812) was soon translated into Danish. The initial high esteem is felt to this day as a strong tradition of 'respectable and faithful translations'. Yet changes in market forces and reading audiences

Abstract:
There is a lack of information about fisheries and fishing boat building traditions in Egypt during the Islamic era (starting18 AH /639 AD/CE), as most sources from this period only focus on commercial or military activities. Therefore, this research refers to the types of boats that were recorded by foreign travelers to Egypt during the period under study. This report highlights that the use of rafts continued in Egypt throughout the Islamic era, as illustrated by Captain Frederick Ludwig Norden the Younger during his travels on the Nile with the Danish Navy in 1737. He noted that the Egyptia

Blue Mountain is a 35-minute work for two actors and orchestra. It was commissioned by the Ultima Festival, and premiered in 2014 by the Danish National Chamber Orchestra. Interestingly, I hadn’t really thought of that before, writing text to my own music – or music to my own text. This is a very common thing in popular music, the songwriter. But in the lied, the orchestral piece or indeed in opera, there is a strict division of labour between composer and writer. There a

Abstract:
The populist moment that defined Danish politics from 2001 to 2019 has recently transitioned into what can be described as mainstream populism. Two concurrent developments drive this shift: first, the Social Democrats’ strategy to reclaim (white) working-class support by adopting populist right-wing stances on immigration and integration, and second, the existential crisis confronting the Liberals (Venstre, V) and the Conservative party (Det Konservative Folkeparti, KF), whose electoral support reached historic lows. The 2024 European Parliament elections differed significantly from those of 2
