Wraz z odkryciem doboru naturalnego Darwin sprowadził zagadnienie pochodzenia i przystosowania organizmów do sfery nauki. Adaptacyjne cechy organizmów można obecnie wyjaśnić, podobnie jak zjawiska świata nieożywionego, jako rezultat procesów przyrodniczych bez odwoływania się do Inteligentnego Projektanta. Abstract:
The Theatre Workshop in Science, Technology and Society (TWISTS) is a unique public engagement project. Theoretically, TWISTS seeks to activate publics around contemporary science and technology issues by producing agonistic cultural spaces in which participants are confronted with and engaged by multiple perspectives. It thus seeks to enact a model of Public Engagement with Science and Technology (PEST) that is oriented toward neither individualized educational models nor policy deliberation and consensus. Its engaged STS performance model instead merges expanded notions of expertise with cha

I am honoured by your invitation to present a Keynote Address at the 19th National Conference of the Australian Association of Special Education, and particularly pleased to have the opportunity to return to Darwin. I last visited here in 1990, to attend the UNESCO South East Asia and South Pacific Sub-Regional Conference “Education for All”. In 1991 I left Australia to undertake an AIDAB (now known as AusAID), project in the South Pacific region. So I have had the opportunity to view at first hand the progress that has been made towards the UNESCO goal of “Education for AH”, in a number of Pa

Wie und unter welchen Umständen dies trotzdem gelingen kann, illustriert ein Projekt zur digitalen Erforschung menschlicher und tierischer Körperzellen

Task Group 2 of the TDWG Data Quality Interest Group aims to provide a standard suite of tests and resulting assertions that can assist with filtering occurrence records for as many applications as possible. Currently ‘data aggregators’ such as the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF), the Atlas of Living Australia (ALA) and iDigBio run their own suite of tests over records received and report the results of these tests (the assertions): there is, however, no standard reporting mechanisms. We reasoned that the availability of an internationally agreed set of tests would encourage im

ObjectivesWHO recommended strengthening the linkages between various HIV prevention programmes and adolescent sexual reproductive health (ASRH) services. The Smart-LyncAges project piloted in Bulawayo city and Mt Darwin district of Zimbabwe established a referral system to link the voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) clients to ASRH services provided at youth centres. Since its inception in 2016, there has been no assessment of the performance of the referral system. Thus, we aimed to assess the proportion of young (10–24 years) VMMC clients getting ‘successfully linked’ to ASRH service

Due to the recent establishment of the Global Genome Biodiversity Network (GGBN) data portal, we have extended Specify collections management software (http://www.sustain.specifysoftware.org/) to more effectively manage, publish, and integrate tissue and DNA extract data by adding support for the GGBN data schema. Specify’s database design now includes a number of data fields and tables proscribed in GGBN standard vocabularies. We also realigned some of the underlying table relationships to address the needs of specimen curation and collection transactions for extract and tissue samples. Speci
