Named Data networking is a project funded by NSF (National Science Foundation) under its Future Internet Architecture (FIA) Program. In 2006 Van Jacobson publicly presented the concept of Content Centric Networking (CCN) and it was a predecessor project for NDN. Its motivation is to solve the architectural mismatch of today’s Internet architecture and its usage. Now the prime use of Internet as data or information distribution network not much match with an IP. Information-centric networking integrates by design a pull-based model which brings in advantages in terms of control as well as of in-network caching strategies. Currently, ICN main areas of action concern content distribution and IoT, both of which are environments that often require support for periodic and even-triggered data transmission. Such environments can benefit from push-based communication to achieve faster data forwarding. In this thesis, a probabilistic approach to the problem of packet forwarding in information centric networks is analysed and further developed. This type of networks are based on information identifiers rather than on the traditional host addresses. The approach is compact forwarding where the Bloom filter is the key method for aggregating forwarding information that allows moving packets at line speed labelled with fiat identifiers. The Bloom filter reduces state at the nodes, simplifies multicast delivery and introduces new trade-offs in the traditional routing and forwarding design space. H

The Named Data Networking (NDN) is a new Internet architecture that changes the network semantic from packet delivery to content retrieval and promises benefits in areas such as content distribution, security, mobility support, and application development. While the basic NDN architecture applies to any network environment, local area networks (LANs) are of particular interest because of their prevalence on the Internet and the relatively low barrier to deployment. Information-centric networking is an emerging networking paradigm that envisages to solve the shortcomings of the host-centric internet. The usage of internet has moved away from the initial host-centric remote access one to predominantly an information serving one. In the new paradigm, information rather than the host takes the central place in serving the users. Hence, the users will search for information and download it from the nearest device holding it. In order to serve the customers better while optimizing the use of network resources, in-network caching is enabled in ICN. In ICN, the
